20 Crazy Concept Phones - General Topics

Only concept phones but it is crazy.
My prefered is the window phone.
http://www.pcworld.com/article/195965/20_crazy_concept_phones.html

The Projector/Printer phone was my favorite. I have to say that I did not realize that so many companies were working on flexible devices. Samsung was the only one I knew of with something viable and worthwhile coming to the market soon.

The thris is very crazy
but i like the 15th :fingers-crossed:

Concept phones are like concept cars, they look so futuristic until they come out (if they do) and then they just look like every other car/phone and not like the futuristic concept.

I could actually see the wrist phone selling, not crazy numbers but it would probably sell.

"That's One Glassy Phone"... just myself who would purchase one if it ever came into production?

None of those wrist phones were sleek though. With all the smartphone-linked watches that are already out I think those inventors have missed the boat.

That’s One Glassy Phone is really cool!!

I like the transforming phone. But that's just because it would be awesome to have a real life transformer. Most of those devices are so completely impractical.

I didn't like them, I prefer my HOX

Well, concepts, sure, but where-da-faq-is-the-battery?

lol very funny.:good:

I dream of this

The window phone screams futuristic yet practical to me.

looks good, I'll buy one.

Beautiful design, but it's a WP. After seeing all the possibilities that Android offers I could never go to such a locked-down interface. Nokia has shot itself in the foot soooo hard by only backing Windows devices. They would sell the crap out of that thing if it came with Android.

Nexus S 4G for an HTC Arrive

Hey all, thought I would post this here since you all have some time under your belt with the HTC Arrive.
I have the opportunity today to trade my Nexus S 4G for an HTC Arrive. I really like the Metro UI and that keyboard is dreamy. Not a big fan of the tilted screen. Wish it could stay flat.
Anyways, what are your thoughts? Good even trade? Would you go back to Android if you could? Is there a better Windows Phone 7 coming down the line I don't know about and should wait?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA Premium App
I really like my arrive, the keyboard is great (and a physical keyboard is a must for me) but I agree on the tilt screen, it does nothing for me other than making it more of a pain to close. I dont have any inside info or insight but I dont think I would count on another WP7 device coming to Sprint until 2012.
If you think you like wp7 I say go for it unless you really need 4G.
I have an Evo sitting in my desk right now and I'm sending this from my Arrive. I do like the WP7 UX better than Android, but the lack of available apps can be frustrating coming from an iOS or Android background.
Ultimately the choice is up to you, but I'm happy on the WP7 bandwagon.
Sent from my T7575 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
I guess I should have mentioned that I came from a Palm Pixi and there are definitely some things I miss from webOS but app support is not one of them.
Thanks for all the suggestions. It feels solid like you are holding quality stuff. The keyboard is fantastic. I forgot how wonderful physical buttons are.
I did go ahead and make the even trade. Beforehand I did look around and even if I would have sold the Nexus to buy an Arrive, the difference was minimal. So I did an even trade and we're both happy with the swap.
The UI is snappy and there is no lag or hiccups. If there is, I don't notice them. My signal has been good so far. Haven't tried the Telenav yet. Connecting to Xbox Live was more pleasing than I had anticipated.
Bought Fruit Ninja and when I heard that achievement unlocked sound I just popped a big ol smile. Looking forward to Mango. I'll miss my Nexus and definitely will miss some of my Android apps, but I'd trade all over again in a heart beat. This is a sweet phone.
Also, the Nexus' Super AMOLED display is the best and will definitely miss that. The Arrive's LCD is decent though and I'll get used to it.

I used to have a Pre. I LOVED that OS, but boy was the hardware lacking and the dev support is disheartening. It will always be the OS that should have won the Mobile OS race in my opinion. At least it inspired other companies to improve theirs. Mango is proof of that with the card view option which I am so looking forward to.

Farewell!

hehe another PC vs MAC thing If you are boring and carefree then go with iphone but if you want a personalized and unique device then stick with the A2 but the OP is gone and i don't think he will come back to take a look at his post hehehe. Besides our signal bars are not jacked up lmao.
This has nothing to do with PC versus Mac, this has to do with locked vs unlocked hardware. i will be boycotting Motorola in the future, this is my first Moto smartphone and the experience has been less than desirable. It's another case of great hardware ruined by being severely limited/crippled by the manufacturer. Samsung, LG, or HTC for me in the future.

Good luck in IOS jail
I sincerely wish you luck with an idevice. I was talked into trying the IP4, and knowing that I could easily sell it for enough dough to pickup some android goodness, I gave it a good, honest try. I fought for almost 6mos trying to make it fit. There were things that were nice, like the *screen*, battery life, speed, and camera.
I even jailbroke that puppy and actually had it part-way there. Unfortunately, the IOS ecosystem is so restrictive (though admittedly slowly getting better) that I wound up bashing my head against stupid, arbitrary limitations. At first, the little annoyances seem minor and tolerable. afterall, this is a pretty solid device, right? so what if you can't quite do x, y, or z. There are 'workarounds' and such, but then you realize that hitting the same little issues every single day starts to grate on you, and many of the 'workarounds' are half-ass (backgrounding apps just kills battery life, for eg.).
While IOS is well optimized for the hardware, and they really get all the speed they can out of it, the GUI also employs tricks to make it *feel* fast (smooth is a better word). Those smooth transitions are so smooth because they are slow, and the GUI will pre-load elements even before they are ready for touch input. Once I got to know IOS, I found I was tapping on freshly loaded GUI 'buttons' that ignored my input for a second or so. lame. Also, the 'polished' feel of IOS apps is almost purely illusory, as they crash frequently when 'unfrozen' (they don't get to run in the background). IOS just makes the crash look really pretty as the app disappears for just a moment and then restarts itself never telling you what actually happened. Android is just being honest when it reports an app crashed.
If yer on a tiered data plan, get ready for the hate. despite all the bull**** claims, IOS uses *far* more data than android. I could rarely stay under 200MB/mo on my IP4 despite having no widgets and only doing email and a bit of web browsing. I rarely go over 80MB in a month now that I'm on the atrix2.
A friend of mine who switched from the IP3G to the SGSII is thankful he didn't get the IP4s. He reports that his wife's IP4s seems sluggish and apps crash alot.
The iDevices can be alluring, and it might be worth trying, but just make sure you have a back-out plan. You may not even fully realize the pit yer in until months later.

Captivate - Best Samsung's design of ALL time?

Everyone knows that among the Galaxy S line-up, our Cappy has the best design and built quality. At first, I was about to ignore the whole Galaxy S series just because the international version looks so iPhone-wannabe. When AT&T released the Cappy, I was really impressed with its design, and when it comes to real life I'm even more impressed with how elegant it is. The metal back makes it less er... cheap to me. So I decided to get one and I'm still loving every bit of my Cappy till today.
Samsung have just released the Galaxy S III. Some Cappy owners might feel sad because they realize that their phone is now outdated compared to new technology. But there's one thing that any other Samsung phones is inferior to our Captivate. You know what it is: the design. I can proudly and loudly say that the Captivate beats the GS III in terms of design. Personally, I think Captivate is Samsung's best design of all time. I'm not saying that because I'm a Captivate owner. Just because... it really is! The only reason holding me back from buying any other Samsung phones is their design. I love Super Amoled screens. I love their high quality/performance SoC. But their designs are just... bad. Especially when the whole thing is made of plastic.
So that's my personal opinions on the Captivate, Samsung and their designs. Post your opinion & let me see what you think
I agree and I think that's why a lot of us (myself included) are looking at the HTC One X.
I agree with you. Samsung, and some other asian companies are too conservative with the design that goes in to these products. The technology may be cutting edge, and the processors blistering fast, but if it looks like a rounded bar of soap, they've missed an opportunity. This isn't the future I'm paying for!
Design is among the most important factors when it comes to brand recognition and perception of quality. SO putting in the effort on the design side of things will distance them from the competition and make a stand out product really feel high end. That said, I love the one x. Its gorgeous in white, and that polycarbonate body is a-mazing. HTC's main design studio (called one&co) is in America right in SF.
Maybe we'll get a new design for the US this time around, too. That would be awesome. I still like the design now, but I agree, the Cappy > all other SGS designs.

This is what I'm hoping for. I probably get it either way, but damnit, the design of our captivates are just so superior. I love the way the battery cover is held in and the overall symmetry of the device (no extra thickness on one end of the phone, camera is flush with the device etc).
Honestly I would be happy if I could shove all of the SGS3 hardware & features into my captivate and keep it for two more years. Probably would have to scale it up a bit to make room for that 4.8" display though lol.

Hope AT&T can do the magic on the GS III, like they did with the Captivate. At least from what I see, all Samsung phones on US Carriers have capacitive touch button instead of plastic one so we can get rid of that ugly home button on the GS III.
Agreed!!! The design very unique and very rare in my country. Till now, every time I take out my phone people will impress. And we're lucky to have great developer still develop great rom for us.

My Captivate went through the washing machine. On month 4 of my 24 month contract.
Disassembled as much as I could, dried it out for a few days, and it powered up like a charm. Even made phone calls and data, but the battery died in an hour. Replaced the battery and all works well, with the exception of WiFi and Bluetooth. Tried to get it fixed, but several repair folk told me that the wifi and BT chip are part of the board and could not be replaced. 3 of these repair shops told me that it's only a matter of time before the phone stops working. Well, that was well over a year ago and the Cappy is still going strong.
Will be replacing it soon enough with a no-contract Galaxy Nexus. It was good while it lasted
The Captivate is by far the best phone I've ever owned because of all the before mentioned things... design, and development... wish it had an led flash as well, but still the best phone ive ever owned....
It's design is different and it doesn't feel "cheap" but I don't think that's worth losing the LED flash, front facing camera and FM Radio (even access to more custom ROMs). Just saying

Ah well, maybe we'll see something like it appearing in the future. I hope so at least.

Size-wise, I think it is a great phone. All the newer Android models seem to get larger and larger, but I think for my purposes, it does not need to get any bigger.

What do u think of the iPhone 5

I love how it I sent even on our level and its a new phone
Samsung innovates.... apple immitates .
Anyway.... what are your opinions on the madder
Sent from my SGH-T989 on Jelly Bean goodness!
Apple doesn't imitate. Gotta correct you on that. There's nothing out there like the iPhone aesthetically. This is one of the reasons so many sheep buy it. The thing looks sleek and elegant and the only other manufacturers that come close in build quality is Nokia and HTC. I personally think its an awesome phone. Its Apple themselves as a company and iOS where everything goes downhill. I would buy an iPhone if I could slap Jelly Bean on it.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Complete disappointment. I'm not an applefone fan but I thought they would come out strong with something innovative. Its just a lewd attempt to draw revenue IMO. The sgs3 kicks its ass. The sgs2 is still a competitor.
TBH I'm sick and tired of every new Android phone released being compared to the IPhone. All people are doing are giving the damn thing more publicity than it already has. The reason the iPhone sells so much is because humans always want more of the same. A tried and true formula if you will. Look at Call of Duty. Millions buy it every year because it maintains the same formula. Add a little here and there and viola. Everyone buys it because its the "thing to have". We here on XDA are the minority. We care about things that your average joe could careless about. They don't even care for the technical specifications. All they know is that there's a new iPhone out with a bigger screen. Simple people like simple things. Apple knows how to capitalize on this. Its sales 101. You never talk about the product itself but the benefits you would gain from it.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I think people should be more open minded and accept that other people can have a difference of opinion. Some people aren't as technically inclined as many users here on XDA and like their phone to be simple and work. Yes android is more powerful and has more customization options but some people don't want to get all worked up about their phones. They just want to use them and not worry about spending hours working on them.
I personally don't have giant hands and having to readjust my grip to press the screen can get annoying. I have an ipod touch 4g and it fits perfectly in my hand. Plus the retina screen is beautiful to look at. I want to see it on the iphone 5 which would look even better.
I love my gs2 and android but that doesn't give me the right to call other human beings sheeps just because of the type of phone they're using. I just let them do what they do and mind my own business.
It's a stupid thing to think less of someone just because of the type of phone they're using. Stuff like that is similar to what leads to racism.

Like what?? You want it to make you coffee??? Let me turn the tables and use your own expectations against you. What are you expecting from the GS4 other than a better CPU, more ram, better camera, and new OS?? Coz that's exactly what what was upgraded in the iPhone... let's be real here people. If you're going to judge the thing atleast judge it fairly. Like I said my only gripe against the iPhone is iOS and its limitations. If someone were to somehow port android to an iPhone 5 I'd probably be all over it. The truth of the matter is the iPhone 5 has more changes and improvements when compared to the iPhone 4s than the changes that were made between the GSIII and GSII. Let's all be real here. We don't hate the iPhone. We hate Apple themselves, their business practices and their followers.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I myself love the iPhone especially now that the damn thing has a bigger screen 4" is perfect, maybe 4.3" but anything larger would kill its look.

Samsung and HTC sucking away the "Apple magic"

When looking at the latest releases from HTC and Samsung this past month, it made me realize that these companies have made it really difficult for Apple to keep up their dominance in the coming years. Many people were blown away, myself included, by the iPhone 4. Fast reliable OS, beautiful screen, sexy industrial design. They have been able to milk that release for about 3 years now, and with the iPhone 5 it is starting to show its age.
But with the phones that have just been announced for 2013, I don't think Apple will ever be able to "wow" anyone with a future iPhone like they did with the iPhone 4. HTC and Samsung already released full HD displays so Apple can't make that revolutionary. NFC and wireless charging have already been introduced by a handful of phones. And Samsung even released a bluetooth game controller for their devices, something that Apple has neglected to do for years with their huge selection of games. And Google Now is much cleaner than Siri imo.

You should probably delete that last line. But I agree iPhone was very cool back in the day. It was the ONLY smartphone... really. But now, even no-name chinese manufacturers such as Oppo & ZTE releasing phones that put the iPhone 5 to shame. IMHO, the only way Apple can survive now is to copy Android.. make phones bigger.. reduce the size of the icons, they make the phone look like a TOY! Also add some widgets to make the phone look less 'just full of icons'. If they do that I think they could definitely be back in the game.
Apple is great, I like the icons. But I agree with you, they should add some widgets
Apple products is totally crap compared to the devices within the same price range and even cheaper. It's good that people are starting to realize that. This company is a good example of mass brainwashing.

I don't think it's brainwashing. It has more to do with the what they were able to make.. which was a phone that was like no other phone before it. And also it didn't hurt that it had the logo of an American company.
Apple is currently falling behind with their software. It is very stable and great but I don't think Apple is going to make an extreme change to it. Older people love the fact that it is so easy to use while android peps love the customization.

If Android would use the same version for years and never implement new features they also would be very stable. This said, I think since JB came out Android made a giant leap in stability. The problem is not with android, it's with Samsung bloatwares. I do loves some of their features but they are rushing to release to quickly.

you are right dude, now apple's stock price begin to drop to around 400$ (correct me if I am wrong) they have lost their magic when job is gone.
Now It's time for apple to catch android if they don't want to be like nokia or blackberry. but it's apple who want a big profit with minimal effort.
look at blackberry they wait for lost almost all of their market before make big innovation in z10, I think apple better realize they have lost and try to catch android this time.
Big android fan but I actually bought Iphone 5 too, why you may ask because of the build quality, it looked and felt quality. Android had nothing like it as far as build quality was concerned but that has changed this year with htc one. What a phone best looking device out there and I think that's not going to change this year.
I really hope htc does well and encourage others like samsung lg to move away from cheap looking plastic.

Most of your comments seem to emphasised on aluminium vs plastic. I just hope you will be able to live with all the scratches (sooner or later) on aluminium unibody and won't put a case (plastic) on HTC one.

So is it possible for Apple to bring back the iPhone 4 magic??

And?? Half of the internal components including the rubbish retina display of the iPhone 4s are made by Samsung anyways....

Most of your comments seem to emphasised on aluminium vs plastic. I just hope you will be able to live with all the scratches (sooner or later) on aluminium unibody and won't put a case (plastic) on HTC one.

Regarding scratches on HTC One , this is black HTC One as you can see, silver should be EVEN better since it doesn't have any color on it. I think HTC One will do just fine regarding scratches.
I would have to agree Apple got far ahead due to their strong marketing strategies.
But you have to say, that they were the one's who revolutionized the cell phone. Android came in much later. But if you say now, yes, Apple has lost its shine a little. But everywhere i go i still see people crazy about that thing. The brand name still packs a punch.
Me being an Android fan, would love to see Android rule. But give credit where its due.

Android is slowly getting there, not sure if it's a blessing though. Looking at the amount of new members on XDA lately. A bunch of them don't even know how to put a widget on their screen(which tells me they come from Apple). I think Apple is good for some people. My 80 years old mom needs a non-customizable phone otherwise she'll change everything and won't remember where the dialer is.

Agree. Some people still prefer to keep things simple. I cant imagine my mom customizing Android phones. She will lose track of what to do after a day or two.
But that being said, Android is getting there. But lets face it, competition is the key. I don't want Android to become like Windows of the mobile world. Competition is very important.

Absolutely! For some reasons companies are turning into evil empire when they become too big. We need Apple to keep putting pressure on Android. Fortunately, 90% of the population is dum(phone wise), so Apple will still be there for a while.
Haha... yeah they would. I just hate the people who think owning an iPhone makes them higher beings than others! And believe me, there are many of them. I just don't get down to the details, coz i just don't care to explain!
That is just plain damn silly.
