The lag is present on both 2.2. and 2.3(don't known about 4.x...), it's caused when you touch the screen, causing it to use 100% of cpu power, it's very noticeable when playing games. But we have wonderfull kernel developers that fixed it!(btw you would need to be a root user...)

are there no official fixes?
i red somewhere that in 2.3 official firmware this was fixed.

No, thats what I was trying to say, official(2.2 and 2.3) with default kernel lags, but if you flash another kernel(non officiall of course) with a modified touchscreen driver it won't lag.All up to date kernel have touchfix

The two phones are very similar, going to the p500 really wouldn't be much of an upgrade at all. I would personally recommend installing cyanogenmod on your current phone as it would run just as well if not better than the p500. Our phone is very old and has been eol for a while. The only advantage it has over yours is the battery, which is much bigger. If it's a free upgrade and you'll never be offered anything else ever again (it isn't some kind of points system with your carrier or something like that), or if your xperia is dying (battery won't hold a charge anymore etc) otherwise just save your money because they're very similar phones.

get an armv7 phone now

FPChaim thanks
bluespoon4 its not an upgrade, its just like exchange. LG has a bigger screen and more ram plus official stock 2.3 firmware.
I tried few firmwares on x10 mini pro, honestly it doesnt beat stock rom and its stability...
Well i will pick up the phone tomorrow just for few days to test it and gonna see how it works (its aswel with fixed screen lag, but only 2.2 froyo)
Is there a link how to flash new kernel? does it require to unlock the bootloader?

bootloader isn't locked
you flash new kernals the same way as roms
you go to recovery. install from sd, choose zip, clear cache, clear dalvik cache you are done
just try to smooth talk with the carrier guy to give you another device
I really suggest you upgrade to a newer phone, preferably one with atleast a one ghz processor because our phone is nearing death

yeah. but if you get this phone, thendevelopment will be limited. half of everyone won't have an optimus one by december
lets face it, this phone has no future.
optimus one is defenitlybetter than the xperia x10 mini but both of these devices will be truly xda obselete by the end of this year
Edit: its ok. the world is going to end on Dec 22.

well yeah both will be obselete here, so if to choose from one better i think its not a bad choise LOL

[Q] Should I buy a Nexus S?

Hi there. I am an LG P500 user. This phone is kinda normal, here are the specs:
MSM7227 Processor 600MHz
512MB of RAM
3.0 MP Camera
320x480 MDPI Screen resolution
Stock Froyo, can be updated to 2.3.3 official Gingerbread or unofficial CM7 (2.3.7)
No support for internal memory card
Bluetooth 2.1
Phone may seem crappy, but just take a look at our LG P500 forums - http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=839.
We have everything: TeamWin Recovery, official ClockworkMod,Unofficial CyanogenMod 7 port which is fully working, tons of custom ROMs (even based on CM7 source),Official 2.3.3 update, great themed ROMs and yes, even franco.Kernel.
But I want some more. So,@ Media World italian store nexus one is now 270€,so I've chosen that(for MIUI,Oxygen,CM7,AOSP etc. official support),probably, not sure. My stupid noob question is:
Samsung Galaxy Nexus is being released,so it will be leaving Nexus S back,am I right? It didn't happen for Nexus One,but I read somewhere that Google after 4.0 won't release official updates no more for it. Will this also happen with Nexus S? Just want to be sure .
I'm not sure if I understand your question. Are you asking if the original Nexus will continue to be supported by Google, or if the GNex will be superior to the NS?

The nexus s will most definitely get an update. Google has stated that it will release AOSP soon after it release the galaxy nexus.
If you would rather not spend a few hundred euros more for a phone, the nexus s a great alternative, even if its a little out dated.

if your going to buy the phone off contract, Id say do it while our phone doesnt have thousands of roms we have it were it counts and everything is nice and smooth
We might lose official support after ics but that would mean the next OS version is a long ways away
Nexus S is one good phone, and not obsolete at all yet. I'd recommend it. But it depends on what you plan to do with the phone, certainly a dual-core phone is better for gaming.
So,basically I am asking a simple question. After which Android release Nexus S is going to lose official support? I don't think it will lose it after ICS.

We don't know that.
However we assume it will lose support whenever it can't handle a version of Android that requires more than it has. ICS will be just fine, and it should not lose support after ICS. And even if it did, a port would most likely be quite easily made.
Yes I own nexus s and it is an awesome phone
Sent from my GT-P7510 using xda premium
A nexus s is a awesome phone, and yes google will eventually stop releasing updates for it. But if you dont have the money to buy a Motorola Razr or a Glaxy Nexus, the Nexus S is a great buy.
i'm very satisfy with nexus s battery life and a lot of developers support it, you should buy it if you are as poor as me
I upgraded to the nexus s from a kyocera echo(which could have been a good phone had kyocera released a recovery and it had some dev support.) and I've loved it since I got it. It's definitely a great phone and imo the best one in it's price range.
buy it. quality pure google phone. very satisfied user here.
Google has been asking for Android partners to go for *AT LEAST* an 18 month release cycle for its models, so that would mean that you'd get official updates up to about May/June 2012. They've never said explicitly they'd support the Nexus S for 18 months, but I think it's safe that they'd hold themselves to at least the same standards they want their partners to be. There's many articles online about the 18-months cycle, for example here: http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/10/google-clarifies-18-month-android-upgrade-program-details-far-f/
Now as to whether to buy the phone or not, I'd say go for it. I've had a ton of Android phones, including ones considered top of the line at some point of other, sgs2, lg 2x, you name it I've had it for at least two weeks. I love the Nexus' form factor, its weight, the amount of development that goes on and most of all, I LOVE that the stock rom is pure Android. The curved screen, in my opinion, is the most beautiful feature on the phone and I'd only swap this phone for a Galaxy Nexus.
290 is a damn good price. Go for it. Resale prices are also quite decent by the way, check ebay for used phones, they seem to sell for around 200-250 eur at the moment, and with them being among the first phones to get ICS, I doubt that will change that much.

I agree, it's an awesome, fast and stable phone, but if you got the money for it, you definitely want to buy a Galaxy Nexus.
The Nexus S is the first phone I've ever had where a successor was released and I didn't care a whit. I love this phone and am totally satisfied with it in every way. I can't wait to play with it with ICS loaded.
It's the perfect size for my hand, battery life and general performance are great, it runs all the software that I want, and is just a good-looking phone. The GNex may be most of these things as well (it's too big IMHO and battery life remains to be seen) but there's nothing driving me towards upgrading from my current phone.
If you don't care about upgraded hardware and can be happy with "last gen" technology, the Nexus S IMO is the best bang for your buck. It'll be supported for a long time to come if the generally favorable feeling its users seem to have towards it continues.
Ok,I may be buying it. But I'm still not sure:
No HDMI
No Dual-Core
No FM Radio (i heard somewhere it works with cm7 and miui)
Secondary camera is only 0.3 MPx.

By the time the Nexus S "loses official support", you'll want something else, anyway.

[Q] WIND Mobile LG G2X

Hey guys, I might be hopping over to the $29 monthly WIND Mobile plan pretty soon, so I'm looking at the handsets they have and I pretty much narrowed it down to the G2X and the Nexus S. I'm currently using a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 which is really similar to the Nexus S in terms of hardware, so I'm hoping that you folks could shed some light on some of the questions I have about WIND and the G2X
1. How are the custom ROMS for the G2X? I love being able to flash custom ROMS like MIUI and CM7, so I'm wondering if there are custom ROMS out there for the G2X that provides full functionality (ie. smooth video recording, etc)?
2. On my GT-I9000, 512 MB of RAM on 2.3.x Gingerbread seems to hinder the home screen smoothness and performance unless tweaks (scripts, LMK kernels, etc) are applied and even then, it's not always 100% smooth. Does the G2X suffer from the same issue?
3. Some of most impressive specs on paper for the G2X are the camera and the dual core processor, do they live up to the initial hype?
4. If anyone's has/had a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 (and used the custom ROM or stock ROM with lag fix), how does the G2X compare with the SGS?
5. Are there any phone-specific precautions I should keep in mind when rooting/flashing this phone (eg. bootloader locks, etc)?
I'd appreciate any advice/input from owners of the G2X, thanks!
To answer some of your questions..
1. Eaglesblood, latest cm7 nightlies using faux latest cm ds kernel are BOSS! I am using latest 2.3.7 eaglesblood rom and everything just works perfect! I have tried miui roms and they are great also(thanks whitehawx for all the ports)
2. Compared to the i9000 the g2x smokes it even tho it has the same ammount of ram, let me just say this... i have 600+ apps/games and dont experience any lag whatsoever! No scripts needed!
3. Yes!
5. Just make sure you install lg drivers/ apx drivers first, install CWM thru tgagunmans excellent nvflash guide(never thru rom manager since it's a fake flash) Then just flash a rooted rom thru recovery, or you can also oneclick root. G2x doesnt have a bootloader like htc devices(wish it did tho because it would make flashing radio/baseband soo much easier compared to using lg's crappy software/kdz method).
Also..
Since the nexus s already has ICS it might also be an attractive option but since it seems your wanting input on g2x, once cm9 is publicly released for our phones it will be an even more amazing device since it is the OS our G2x's should have started with from the beginning(hw acceleration, multicore support, improved ui,etc)

The camera software was changed in Gingerbread. There are a few options gone from the Froyo LG Cam. Also added more compression to the pics taken. Not as sharp and clear.
Wait until ICS is available fo the G2X then decide. If it's the G2X, buy a 2nd hand one, they,re a lot cheaper.
I love the phone but to be honest, the camera sucks ever since LG removed the new camera and the modded ones don't work the same. Not a problem for me though, I don't use it.

Go exchange your O3D to Galaxy SII

Hi,
I was attracted by the features of O3D, I bought it and trust the date provided by LG for upgrade.
Unfortunately, with the dates announced by LG for ICS (September 2012 at best) is the straw that broke the camel!
I even tried my own builds upon the rom without success, as LG provided virtually no sources ..
I decided to exchange my O3D against a galaxy SII, its cost me nothing ... and I was surprised to see that Samsung has already publish ICS beta rom perfectly usable as daily use. I use now CM9 and is perfect, in short I am no longer frustrated.
I encourage every member of this forum to do the same thing, for LG understands that we must not take these customers for idiots!
Wish you best for 2012, goodbye all++
PS: ICS is very very beautifull!!

Nice good for you. I'm getting frustrated with O3D as well. After the initial awe of 3D is over it's just plain slow even with some custom roms. AFter GB update it sometimes has missed out calls and it doesnt ring, camera still takes ages to come up. Less and less updates from LG and list goes on. But i wouldn't change it now since Galaxy SIII is supposed to be launching this quarter or other phones with quad core. So might as well go for something better.
U r right but i'm not waiting the ICS rom so i'm gonna stay with LGO3D
Oh guys, I got rid of my O3D as well, but not for GSII, for the mighty Galaxy Nexus..
As a loyal Nexus One user once, I have really missed the Nexus experience, and I must say, LG really really sucks big time.
You have to experience the zero lag experience of this phone, especially the zero lag camera shutter is amazing. You click, and bamm, you have your photo taken, and back to shutter mode in absolutely no time.
And ICS rocks of course.
What a loss with O3D..
I would not exchange it for a SII, it's not a worthy trade.
But my patience with this handset has reached its limit. It has been a torturing experience using this phone so far, and it has all been due to the constant MAJOR bugs LG adds to its ROMs.
It's unbelievable we get the ghost calls and sms on a V21 ROM, and the loads of problems previous ROMs had before make us expect nothing positive from LG.
I'm hugely disappointed by LG and though I'm sticking with this phone for a while more until I decide what to buy next, one thing is for sure, LG terminals are a no-go.
Cool, you pays yer money, you makes your choice.
I on other hand have just gotten rid of a Samsung product - the galaxy tab - due to woeful support and buggy software. You think lg are the only ones to delay and pre-release software?
The s2 is a great phone but the optimus 3D is fine for my needs, and ics isn't stable enough yet so I can wait. I bought the device knowing it was on froyo so I can't say I'm too aggrieved!
Good luck with your S2!

I don't actually like the look of ICS - It looks too simple. I also don't see why people want ICS so badly, Quite alot of apps don't support it, and there isn't much new features that cant be done better by Non-ICS apps.
Most custom launchers already have the functions of the ICS launcher, most with extra features as well.
Cyanogenmod pretty much has Swipe to dismiss notifications.
Swype is much better than the ICS keyboard imo.
Face unlock and the better voice input engine are pretty much the only things custom apps cant add to GB/Froyo (Neither of which has much use. Face unlock can also be unlocked by a photo.)

Thats why I have turned back to Nexus Nation. No need to worry about the crap that manufacturers put in their firmwares. Pure Google, Pure satisfaction
To each his own, I guess.
ICS would be nice but I'm in no rush...heck I don't even see any difference in Gingerbread from Froyo (except better camera quality which is not even because of Gingerbread)

yeah...we all know that galaxy sii come with better support and software in both community and from factor...but still i have the 3D and at least cm7 is coming and the current roms are good enough...and im willing to wait another 9 months or so to get my ICS
so i'll stick with the optimus 3D for now...i would choose it over galaxy SII any day
but its a matter of personal taste and preferences
The price of O3D has been dropping in the online stores lately (around 300-400 euros atm), and I've been thinking of buying one to replace my Nokia N900. But reading these posts makes me think it's not that smart, even the price isn't that bad.
I really like the N900, but I think I need a new toy. And 1080p video recording. And no, I don't want to buy SGS2, as even my boss has one.
No thanx. Have had a SGSII before O3D and I like O3D better.

Why change it with a p[hone as sluggish as hell, full of bad quality hardware and crappy 3d? just because of the custom roms? Bottom line is that (almost) no custom rom is as stable as stock ones any brand you go see. Sure i like custom roms too just for the freedom of choosing but srsly evo3d? I've seen it in action with a hell lot of custom roms (my brother has one) and it is not half as good as o3d. My bro is so jealous of my o3d that he keeps asking me to swap phones

Me: really?
Op: yes
Op: you do this, then you do that. (installing software on the computer for the update)
me: can you please ask your tech guy please?
op: okay give me 2 minutes
after 10 minutes on hold
op: oh I am sorry but I made a mistake, the gingerbread will not be released for another 3 weeks.
me: another 3 weeks? why???????
op: they are doing final testing to make sure it is 100%
me: oh, so it the same as froyo where they tested and it is still buggy????
op: foryo???? what is Froyo???
me: you are kidding, right???
op: LG uses Android and the delay is from Google and not us, and the problems with the phone is because Android is Buggy

Hello All,
I want to ask you guys that I am getting this Phone in cheap like around $125. I need to ask you guys that in that price is the right phone also I heard that people are complaining regarding this phone which majorly include random reboot. If I root it and flashed it via any custom 4.0 rom will it fix these problems ? Also I didn't understand what are the GB roms mean ? If anyone can suggest me a gud MIUI or any 4.0 rom it would be great.
Many Thanks in advance for your help.

Do yourself and your sanity a favor. DON'T pick up this phone! It's backed by a lying company, and it's an Nvidia based product making it subject to Nvidia's stuck up policy for releasing hardware drivers. Get something else. You'll be happier you did. LG NEVER again!

So....for the sane response. If you're planning on sticking with the stock firmware, then I'd also say to move on to another phone. If you're comfortable flashing a custom rom, I'd say if you can wait a while the this will probably be one of the best phones available.
To clarify, stock on this phone is very poor. CM7 is pretty good, but still has some bugs and obviously lacks all the newer features of ICS/JB. Right now we don't have a good ICS/JB build, but we're hoping to have one soon. Source was recently released for one of our "sister" phones. RC (Arcee, Ricardo) has already released CM10 for the O2x, but is ironing out some details on it atm. The reasonable assumption is that after is done with that, he'll make a version for the G2x (as he did with the "hacked" version of CM9 in the past).
So in short....hardware's great, but software's crap. Hopefully we'll see improvement on the software side soon though

At $125, if you will be satisfied with running Android 2.3.4 such as the stock LG/T-Mobile V21E or V21Y or a modded ROM of either of those such as Weapon, then the phone is a bargain if it is also in very good condition. The phone may or, most likely, won't get any further updates to ICS and/or JB even from developers such as those on XDA or Cyanogenmod (CM10). If you want to get the latest Android, buy a newly released NEXUS qualified phone with JB which will also get future Android updates.
Yeah, for $125 you can pick up a new non-LG phone that is far superior in terms of support and feature set. Anyone who recommends you to buy an LG smartphone does not care for you the way I do. I want you to live your life, not sit here in an XDA forum like the rest of us waiting to be saved by the open source community.

I am interested in one of those phones for $125 (unsubsidized cost). Name them and what support and features are superior to the G2X.

Fixed your post. The p999 will be definitely getting CM10. Right now, were just in a period when all the other devs are being respectful to arcee and waiting for all the kinks to be worked out of the p990 CM10 before porting to the P999. Plus we will most likely get official CM support from arcee as well.

Respect. Odd concept these days unless between gangs when it is used as a warning before all hell breaks loose.
So far, even though asked repsectfully and politely, RC hasn't provided any information about providing CM10 for the P999. I think we're hoping that he will after he gets some of the problems with CM10 for the P990 remedied. Apparently, he doesn't have a P999 but there's a rumour that he's getting one which I hope he does so he can optimize CM10 for the P999 without a lot of iterative programming. It's difficult to figure out what's happening with other developers, whether they're holding back out of "respect" for RC or they're gone from P999 development (there's one XDA member currently trying to port the P990 CM10 ROM but is having serious difficulties doing it).
Hey buddy there isn't anything wrong with the g2x as a phone. It still has tetra 2 and plays well with a lot apps and games. Its much better than any low cost new phone out there.
Leave it stock and maybe rooted and you will be fine.
Unless lg releases ics for it you wont have a full working ics rom for it.
And the problem isn't nvidia! Tegra2 devices are everywhere and the t3 is one the highest demanded chips out there.
Lg isn't totally to blame either.
The problem is anytime you buy a branded version of a phone it has to wait to get its software out too. So since the g2x says T-Mobile on it, they are also the reason the phone doesnt have much respect for the dev community,
Have fun with your 100$ phone. Best you can't find a better one cheaper

I wouldn't let NVIDIA and LG off the hook for blame, they both have caused problems for the phones NVIDIA's chips are in and LG for the phones it makes. I own an unbranded Optimus 2X which is exactly the same as the T-Mobile G2X in every respect except that it is LG's branded phone. How did that happen? It's because it is a Canadian Optimus 2X which was sold by some Canadian cell phone service providers such as WIND Mobile and Mobilicity and operates on the same AWS bands as the T-Mobile G2X. It came with Froyo and, in spite of it being advertised as being upgradeable and to receive an upgrade to Gingerbread, it has not received any Android OS updates at all and, according to LG Canada, never will.
I'd say $75 would be the price I would recommend it at. I paid $200 with contract unfortunately

[Q] Buying this device- Will you recommend it?

Hi everybody, I currently own a HTC One V. I want to buy a phone for my brother, which costs somewhere around 16000 rs inr..
I love flashing and will definitely be flashing cm10.1 on it . So what I want to know is that:
1. What specific problems do you all face in this phone ?(Like in the one v there a risk of bricking the phone by a simple button combination)? :fingers-crossed:
2.Is there anything I need to do after opening it out of the box (Like NOT do any software updates, etc) ?
3. How good is this phone for gaming? Judging from the Adreno 205 GPU I should guess that it SHOULD handle basic games, right? And I guess temple run will lag a bit? Or am I wrong?
4.Any other thing I MUST notice?
5.Will you recommend this device? Or should I go for any other one?
Thanks! :good:
1. there is risk that if you pull out battery while phone is turned on you can fry eMMC chip
2. do not update it because it update also hboot (you won't be able to unlock it without using htcdev)
3. I tried only max payne and it ran smooth
4. there are 2 versions of lcd panel - sony or hitachi and only sony is supported by cm9/10/AOSP now
5. if you want to buy One V, you'd better buy DS because it has same CPU, more ram, magnetic sensor ( one v doesn't have), better camera and front camera
In terms of games, My DS can run NFS Most Wanted and Modern Combat 4, NO lag at all.
Forgot to say. would definitely recommend

CM10. It's in my signiture.
both cameras work (preview glitch but doesn't affect camera functions)
I forgot to mention that if you unlock it via htcdev you need to flash boot.img via fastboot after every rom change

You got it wrong. If you upgrade to ICS with hboot 2.x. you can only unlock via htcdev and everytime you flash a new rom you need to flash boot.img seperately.
however, there is method to downgrade hboot from 2.x to lower 0.98.x. but that's extra steps you need to take.
speaking of panel, there is command you can put into terminal emulator, which would tell you what panel is on your phone.

I think 441Excelsior meant the same, i.e. hboot 2.x only unlockable via htcdev
if you are unfortunate enough to end up with a Hitachi panel. there is a 82n kernel you can flash to work with CM (not sure if it works with all cm/aosp though, at least for some)

What's the probability I receive a Hitachi panel? like, only new phones have it or only the old phones have it? How many people on this forum have it?
Is there any way to know this? I really want this phone, it seems so good..

I Have HTC Desire S.. Till day before yesterday it was on ICS Official Stock. Yesterday night I have unlocked the same through HTCDev and also Rooted and Installed custom ROM (Fallout V 5.0) .
I have played most of the 3d games (Right now playing Batman, NFS and Modern Combat 4) on my DESIRE S which are working fine with out any lag and if you compare the current phone configuration (Which are in the same price range as Desire S) then obviously HTC Desire S has plus sides i.e. Gorilla glass, Front cam, Better RAM and GPU.
So go with HTC Desire S. Check the Saholic website it will cost you 16,000. ( I also have ordered one more Desire S from ebay which cost me only 9,000 INR but that is with out any warranty.)
i think that cm >7 is not really very stable on desire s.

My suggestion is to aim at some more recent device, if your budget can handle one of course.
The advanced developers left Desire S long time ago. Most of the interesting projects are not finished due to lack of official support (proper drivers and binaries) for ICS and JB and will remain such. The official ICS has bugs and performance drop compared to GB, and the kernel 3 source is full with code for multiple core devices that affects the performance but is too much to be cleaned properly. Also there is not so big chance of newer devices with similar hardware to be released, respectively no source for porting newer versions of both Sense and Android (except the Desire X, but the CPU and GRP are different on it). Primo (One V) is not going to be updated further so we end with it on the hardware side (even the Desire XS ROM that is ported from Desire X is using mostly One V libraries).
More over the Mobile Wold Congress will come at the end of February, probably new product lines will be announced by various manufacturers in all price ranges. Worth waiting a month for a new toy.
All the above is my personal feeling about the future of the Desire S. Nevertheless I concider it as an excelent device with great capabilities and it was a pleasure to play with it for the past year and half and probably will not going to upgrade it at least for a half an year more. But it just cannot offer anything new and exciting compared to all the novelties around
1. For me, the battery is only so-so.. sometimes it can last 17hrs, sometimes it only lasts 5hrs with heavy usage (gaming and/or browsing)
2. after opening the box, you should caress it and enjoy the beauty of it..
3. Temple run (pun intended), NFS/TDKR/RealRacing2/BackStab/MC2/MC3/Dead Trigger/Mass Effect/Dead Space all works fine for me..
4. your Hboot and LCD Panel (the latter only if you want to flash it with CM10)
5. yes, even I can't recommend the Desire X over this.. You want a reliable low end device (this now is considered as low end already) from HTC, then look no further than this.. Or if you have a little more money, the Sensation would be great, too..

Agree on this. Desire S is great for its current value, and I am still recommending it..
But if you could save up a little bit and expand your budget, I'm sure there are better recent devices.. maybe not from HTC..
But nevertheless, if we are looking at devices with the same current price range (used/preowned) then I think the DS would be one of the better ones.. Just don't expect so much from the developers side, because although they are great, talented people, but we tend to agree that slowly they are moving over to better devices and sooner or later, this device would be put under legacy.. (the "sanctuary" thread is really like a sign that slowly people are moving on from this phone)..

greatttt......now i know i have sony panel.....
Really nice phone, i love it. But its far too old & look at the Nexus 4. Cheap as hell
better to go for Htc desire X which is dual core and around 18000/= INR
