Blaze showing that I'm connected to "AT&T" - Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G

Does anyone else have this sort of issue using T-Mobile? My Blaze is showing that its connected to "AT&T", rather than T-Mobile. No, my phone is not unlocked, nor do I have an AT&T SIM card, or the service. If I enable 3G/4G, the icon will not appear, and data won't function.
This has also happened a few times with my old T-Mo phone, the HTC G2. Its very annoying, because I can't use my service. Seems to be happening quite often with my Blaze, which has prompt me to create this topic for answers, hopefully. So if you've noticed this too, and have an explanation and/or fix, please reply.
Thanks.

I have that happen to me when T-Mo isn't available and AT&T is. That's what happens when you roam on their network. More often this happens in my house as AT&T has better signal penetration.

I don't get good signal at my house either. Mostly EDGE with 1 or 2 bars. Sometimes though, 3G or 4G.
Um.. also, I have Data Roaming set to off, all the time.

Voice roaming and data roaming are two different entities, if I'm not mistaken. Blocking data roaming will do only that.

So, my phone is basically "voice roaming"? I don't know too much about roaming, other than the fact that I think it allows you to use your device on someone else's network with your T-Mobile SIM, right? And if you do that, the bill is generally more expensive? Anyway, if this is whole situation is completely normal, then I guess I'm done.. still, I find it annoying.
Sent from my SGH-T769 using xda-developers app

Tmobile has a deal with att in areas where tmobile has no service you are technically roaming on att towers but your and still paying normal rates. I was worried about my vacation where I had no coverage and att was a partner carrier and service still worked. confirmed by tmobile rep when I inquired about it. so it can happen from time to time

No voice roaming fee- check settings
There's no such thing as any kind of voice roaming charge. If you lose your T-Mo coverage and there's an AT&T tower that T-Mo shares with AT&T (they both often share where there is little population to maintain service in those areas) then once you get back into T-Mo coverage your phone should automatically switch back to T-Mo. You can also select the network manually to the T-Mo network by going to Settings>Wireless and Network>Mobile Networks>Network Operators>Search Now. IF T-Mo shows up then tap T-Mo (wait up to 5 minutes) and volia! You will be back on T-Mo's network and data will be enabled again. You could also just turn off the phone and turn it back on (if I'm not mistaken the phone will select the network automatically). I always run into this when travelling back to Indiana for the holidays when I go through Wisconsin.
EDIT: Domestic data roaming is free but you have a tiny data cap defined here: http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-3299
So it is in fact safe to turn on data roaming. But 10-50 Megs will be burned up fast.

Wow.. so basically, my phone was only just roaming... I'm such a newb..
Thanks for the clarificatons. Yeah, I was restarting my device to get it back onto T-Mobile. I'll try that way you mentioned.
Topic resolved.

[Q] How to get LTE?

I'm confused about how I access the LTE network.
I'm on Rogers in North Vancouver. I'm using Sky ICS 6.75 stock. I haven't installed any special radios/modems.
I should have an LTE plan (was to take effect 15Apr). I have my Network Mode set to GSM/HSPA/LTE (auto mode). And I have my Access Point set to ltemobile.apn. I've gone in to *#2263# and set LTE Band preference to "LTE ALL" then back to Automatic.
After all that, how do I tell if I'm on LTE? The network graphic shows 4G but it did before I moved to LTE as well.
When I do speedtests, I don't get any better speeds than when I'm not on LTE.

Seems like you're in an area that doesn't yet have LTE..
Get speedtest from play store.
see what your speed is.
You should see an lte icon beside the 4g.

Ah, I see now what my mistake was. It was in believing the agent in late March who said she moved me to an LTE plan. I called back today, I wasn't on an LTE plan, but the agent did some magic and now, apparently, I am. We'll see in a bit.
They shouldn't have to change your plan.... You already have the hardware, it's just a matter of being in an LTE area to receive the signal.
before u go any further, please tell me u already have an LTE sim card with rogers, released in the last 6 months. Without that LTE won't work no matter what
Just got my phone less than 2 hours ago. LTE worked right out of the box.
They had to give me a new LTE SIM card though. I'm guessing you didn't get one?
They didn't have to change anything with my plan though, idk why they would tell you that.

Well .. that turned out to be my second problem. I was sure I had an LTE SIM card when I first got the phone 5 months ago. I remember discussing it with the agent. Turns out I didn't. I have it now and I get LTE - sometimes. It seems to come and go but at least I know it's out there now.

Wow - is that right? And they tried to sell me the LTE version of my plan for $15 more a month! They eventually found the same plan for the same price. I wonder what they're doing.

They try to get you to buy a plan with more gb's to get more money out of you. You don't need to do that though.

HSPA+ data speeds. WTF T-Mobile USA

I'm just going to post a bunch of screen shots of my data tests. All were outside in central Philadelphia from yesterday around the same time. There is just a ton of fluctuation in the speed and ping/lag times. Any ideas on what's causing the flux?
I'm running The CM7 nightly from 1/1/2013 with Mazout's Faux revival kernel.

To many variants on this, how far from the tower, how much interference there is, how many are using the network.
Also on your last pic you are on the edge aka 2G network not HSPA+

Looks like to me you were probably on the edge of HSPA+ network.

That always happen to me when i Travel to Different Cities.
At home i usually get 5 mb/s and in different city i get 40kb/s
and i did make sure i was on HSPA+ and my signal bar was full.
Exactly, I travel all up and down Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina and Washington D.C. for work and I think the Max I've ever gotten was 7mb per second.

I've always had this problem with Wind. Nothing that you could do about it.
I'm already lucky enough to have "unlimited" data included in my plan, so I'm not going to complain.

lol wtf r u guys on? i get even 8/s ussually
well the fact that they were all taken within 100m of each other and outside and in Philadelphia, like I said, means most of the reasons don't make sense.
I did take a few with Edge, which were a lot slower, but often had less ping time. Thanks for the feedback. I find it hard to believe that the traffic flux within 3 minutes would cause a 500ms swing in lag times so I'm kind of thinking that it's really an issue with the hardware/ROM that gives me such fits.
I have the same problem around Salt Lake City, UT. My phone will show 4g service, with full bars, and yet my connection will constantly stall out or not work. Some days it works fine other days it's worthless, even though it says 4g. F'ing tmobile.
Are you usually located in NY NY like speed test says? Because when I was in NY near queens, I only got hspa+ speeds to. When ever I came back home (Texas) I'm on 4g networks now. And I'm on latest cyanogen mods stable for g2x
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda app-developers app
Its the G2x, not T-Mobile. When I had my G2x I would get max 7 down, higher ping, and same upload. But honestly, you don't really need much more on the G2x.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Accessing the network in Philly will lead to a lot of fluctuation, especially at 1:30 in the afternoon. A lot of people in the city use T-Mobile and peak hours suck here.
Also included in the issue is that while network is a major player, the speed at which the phone processes stuff hurts the speed. If your phone lagged up at any point during the test, you'll notice a huge fluctuation.

Data issue that T-mo and Google couldn't fix

Data speeds are slow and most downloads end up failing. Went from 1st level support to advanced level tech support for each company and they could not figure out my data issue. Everything from powering off, airplane toggle, verifying or deleting and creating APNs, factory reset, checking that I was not throttled, new SIM card, flashing fresh Google image, checking coverage maps, checking for tower maintenance, going to another tower's area, t-mo "resetting" connection on their end. Google even suggested RMA. It doesn't matter the website or type of download. Anything else that was missed that I could try before ordering new phone?

you wouldnt have anybody on a different carrier that you know that you could borrow their sim card for a few seconds. Cuz you should run a speed test on a different network. if its slower then their phone, its googles problem, if it isnt, its tmobiles problem

There is likely nothing wrong with your phone, it's most likely TMO using/dialing in QoS on the LTE side of the network.

I was getting near synchronous 25 up/down ever since LTE went live on my towers at work and home. Now cannot get more than 11 up, around 3-5 down, and very poor download, video playback performance.

I've used nexus 4, HTC one, s4, lumia 925 and now nexus 5 in Atlanta area. I'm usually never on WiFi, and I did a few speed tests. My experience in both hspa and LTE has been great, with nexus 5 keeping signal better and always having better download speeds than HTC one, s4 and lumia. I wonder why you guys have had opposite experience.

Question for Straight Talk Users

I currently have a Nexus 5 bought from the Google Play Store. I am using it on the Sprint Network (Which I do not have LTE in my area) and I am tired of waiting. My contract is up in Jan. I am wondering how the service is through straight talk? Both T-Mo and AT&T have LTE in my area so I guess it doesn't matter what SIM card I use from Straight Talk. (I am leaning more towards AT&T) speed tests have shown it to be the faster of the 2. Is Straight a nation wide coverage, or will I have roaming when I leave my city while traveling? The $45 for Unlimited price is why I am asking.
I am currently using my nexus 5 on Straighttalk (ATT sim). I absolutely love it. For my area, it has almost as good of coverage as verizon, and the LTE is on average 4x-7x as fast. My average on verizon was about 4mbps. I am averaging 18-30mbps on ATTs network. I don't know if it was my old phone making verizon so slow here or what. it was an OG droid razr maxx.
Talk, sms, mms, LTE, etc all work great. Just remember, data isn't *really* unlimited on straight talk. I guess actually it is, but after you use 2.5gb, they throttle you way down. Super slow. I am going to used it for a few months, if i end up going over the 2.5gbs much, i am considering trying T mobiles 70 dollar truly unlimited data plan.
Good luck and enjoy your nexus :good:
PS, here is a speed test done on LTE about 5 minutes ago.

How is the Coverage (Not Data) any Dropped Calls? I travel a lot so will I be "roaming" if I leave my "home" city?
Straight talk works a little different than other carriers, it never shows you as "roaming", however you can "roam" in some areas, but not as many as if you had went with ATT or tmobile directly.
But hey, that's the beauty of non contract, if the coverage doesn't work for you, you are not bound by a contract.
For my area, i have experienced 0 dropped calls, i did have 1 spot, 1 time, 1 day that a call *almost* dropped, but it recovered. I have not experienced that again, even in the same spot that the first one almost dropped. Call quality has been as good, or better than verizon(that is compared to my old phone, so that's not apples to apples).
I switched from sprint after 10 years and I have no regrets. My service is superb. You can always buy a sim card and try it out with a random phone number. Just be aware that if you decide to port your sprint number later you will need a new sim.
I'm using an AT&T sim btw.
Sent from my GT-N5110 using Tapatalk 4
I too switched from Sprint to Straight talk, I honestly could not be happier. I ALWAYS have 4g whether it be HSPA+ from 2-8mbps or LTE from 13-30mbps. 0 dropped calls and no issues with anything else. Sometimes MMS takes awhile to get working but I've gotten good APN settings so it takes care of that.

Question Updated to c63 broke sim.

Op9 global Verizon sim. Na version. As soon as I rebooted into c63 x was in signal bar. Anyone found a fix . I know OnePlus sent some bung build. Any help would be great I've already msm tool back to 11.2.4.4 and updated. signal.is just gone.
So are you saying even on 11.2.4.4 you don't have signal?

Correct. But I just found out an hour or so ago. It's a Verizon network outage in my direct area. Just happened to happen exactly as I was taking C-63 update. Then I spent hours using msm tool to find no data on anything even custom. Hopefully fixed soon.Funny. It's my carrier. Never even thought that once.

I always hear about verizion network outages. ive been on mint mobile for 3 years that is just an MVNO on T-Mobiles network and have never had an outage, just coverage issues in deep rural areas.
pay $15 a month (180$ annually) , 5 GB of data, unlimited talk/text and acceptable 5G speeds. Here is a speed text I just ran on my phone. Not bad for the node it ran against is on the other side of New York and on a lower prioritized MVNO of its network.
