Hey guys,
I will be getting my Infinity by Sunday and I was hoping you guys could help me out on powering and starting up my tablet.
It would really help me a lot (and also the other users there who are still confused on what to do) if someone could provide a step by step procedure into how we can make the best out of this tablet...
like (ROOTING --- to root or not to root?, UPDATING FIRMWARE, SUGGESTED APPS)
download links and instructional links would be really helpful here is as well...
hope someone would be kind enough to help
Thanks in advance...
Knowing more about your battery, performance and how to maximize it will yield longer play time and increase the life of your tablet. I would start reading and get familiar with it.

I would immediately update firmware when you receive your tablet and if you have a tf201 dock attach it and you should get an update notice for your keyboard dock.
Congrats on owning the Infinity!! If you get some lag from browsing or swiping or performance issues, not to worry. That will be eliminated once Jelly Bean project butter hits our tablet. (Reference Nexus 7)

Yes you can update firmware then root if you like. Remember Unlocking your tablet will void warranty and lose the ability to receive future updates from Asus. Once unlocked you will have to rely on custom roms to to keep up to date. As for me I'm just waiting for Jelly Bean Project Butter to hit our tablets before considering custom roms and of course making sure that my tablet is a keeper since i am still within the 30 return policy from BB.
So my advice is to not jump the gun. You can unlock your tablet anytime you want only down side to it is that if something breaks your SOL no warranty and its frowned upon to return a tablet unlocked, because the chances of that tablet being sold to another is likely to happen. Then that persons warranty is already void.

Update the firmware, and then wait to root or unlock the boot loader.
In my opinion there is no reason to rush to root it. The stock ROM is quite nice, you can always change the launcher if you want a different look. I believe that all current ROMs (and there aren't many, yet) are still pretty much in beta. So give the devs some time to do their thing. In the mean time just enjoy your new toy.
thanks for the advice guys... it means a lot... will keep you guys posted once i get my hands on it
Rooting is fairly straight-forward in execution and does provide you with access to programs you wouldn't normally be able to use (adaway comes to mind). It also will not void your warranty and if you do have problems, you can always do a factory reset to go back to straight stock. Bootloader unlocking will void your warranty and prevent you from receiving OTA updates (though you can still install updates manually) and there are not many custom ROMs available just yet. In summary, root if you want, don't unlock the bootloader yet.
Edit: removed derp
^Thanks for that... will probably do an update first and then root it.. any suggestion to what initial apps to install?

Is there a way to Unlock or Root the TF700 with the current JB firmware? My TF700 came stock with JB, and it seems like Asus took down the links to the ICS firmware on their support site.
As others have said in various threads, you can be on JB and unlock no problem. It says ICS only but Asus are just lazy and haven't updated their site. I unlocked on JB and everything is fine.

So after that i'll be able to root it no problem?
Correct. I just did it last night and everything worked fine. Unlocked and rooted on latest 4.1.1 JB!

New TF700 owner here.
Curious to getting root w/o unlocking it? I looked at some other threads and only talk about keeping root while upgrading etc.
So far loving this tablet, the dock makes it 100x more useful when you need it.

As far as I know, the only way to root it without unlocking the bootloader is if you have ICS and just use the debugfs command program, as far as rooting with JB I know you have to have the bootloader unlocked. In all honesty I don't mind taking the risk of unlocking my bootloader because I have Geek Squad Protection on my tablet and can just get a new one for free.

You should use TWRP 2.3.1 instead of 2.2.2.3, which he reccommends, though. They have fixed the issues he talks about.

I'm wanting to take the plunge myself - but do you have to use the Asus unlocker tool or is there a way around that? I'm too late to get SquareTrade I think. Too late, and too poor LOL. I just have that nagging feeling that as soon as I do the thing will bork on me.
Edit: Sorry...I just read that you can't unlock without the ASUS tool, and it's a damn shame. I want so bad to rant right now but I won't.
I think I'm still going to unlock though.
The only way I could find to root was to install CWM recovery first, and then install the CWM SuperUser app. I replaced CWM with TWRP when all was said and done. Both are now touch interfaces making things so much less laborious. The links for doing so are all around the web and these forums. I had my frustrations but in the end it was easier than I thought it would be. I'm happy I took the plunge. I believe a lot of my frustrations were from ASUS' horrible implementation of Android. My benchmarks are now 6300+ on Quadrant with 2D GPU rendering on. I know benchmarks aren't everything but, you won't be sorry if you're giving up some kind of warranty to get the device you paid premium dollar for.
Busy with nothing I simply pressed the button to check firmware update for my TF700T. Then a notif came up telling me to install an update. After a temporary unroot I did what it said, and now I'm running Firmware 10.4.4.23-20121127, mine is WW. Root restored without any issue after rebooting.
Can't really see any changes (yet), probably have to dig deeper.

I did an Antutu benchmark, before update I was getting about 13300 or so, now I am getting 14400. I also think they have unlocked 1700 mghz for all cores except power saving obviously.
Got the update too, nothing too obvious seems to have changed.....
And I forgot to backup the dlpkgfile, sorry @geri.st

You haven't seen the performance of Cleanrom and Clemsyn kernel yet. I ran the .23 version and it's no where near the performance of the Cleanrom/clemsyn combo. I went back to stock just to see the .23 perfornace, but after one day, I'm back on Cleanrom/Clemsyn kernel.

From what I've read I truly believe in you. The problem is that I didn't use NVFlash when possible (had already updated the bootloader) and I don't want to risk unlocking and flashing ROM's for now. The tablet is not sold in my country and if I brick it I wouldn't be able to repair nor to buy a new one.
I am not a newbie on flashing ROM's in general because I still own a HD2 but I do know there are risks on the process.
Thus, I will probably wait for the 4.2 update to decide between unlocking it or not.

I hear you, you do have a point!
I agree that this update really improved the speed of my tab. Might not be clean rom fast, but it's still warrantied fast
It's a bit faster now. At this rate we'll be fully happy with the speed around April. For me it does what I want it to just fine So what if I have to wait 1 second instead of 0.5 second for an app to open? And the very, very rare (no, I don't get them a lot. once a day, at most.) ANR messages are a whole lot less irritating than the constant "Are you sure" UAC rubbish I deal with daily on W7. (technologically impaired clients. Ugh.)

I, too, am not risking unlocking. While it is for sale here quite regularly and the EU covers warranty concerns, I bought it from a store that's not known for its great customer service (Media Markt, for you dutchies&germans.) and I didn't get a chance to use NVFlash. (By the time I heard about the idea, the first update had already auto installed. ) I'm also generally rather unlucky when it comes to electronics, stuff tends to break. And I need the tablet for work, so I can't afford to have it send out for repair for weeks if I mess up.
@ShadowLea
I have exactly the same problem as you, but Media Markt isn't good for repair?
Must I unfreeze all system apps before the update?

Yes, you must unfreez all system. Any modification to properties (build.props) file also needs to roll back. The device must be in the "stock" condition or update will failed.

I rooted my device using an app from an old guide long ago. I am still on stock with no custom recovery or rom so basically rooted factory ice cream sandwich. I did one Asus update and used ota root keeper to keep root. Now Asus has pushed me the jellybean update envied I'm not sure the best way to go about rooting and such. The only caveat is I might sell and not sure if I want to unlock the boot loader or not. Should I? And if so which guide do I follow? Thanks all.

Also, nice going with the "I'm gonna have an attitude but say something seemingly nice at the end" post. Very original of you.
So how about this, should I just unroot with the same tool I used and follow one of the guides to unlock and root with custom recovery and rom? I am on 4.0.3 as of now. Thanks

Right from the get-go. Regardless...
Ensure superuser binary current.
Having ES File Explorer or another like app is a nice-to-have. Keeps system mounted as r/w if you need to get to system/bin.
You already know about OTA Rootkeeper. 100% stock required. Temp unroot.
Apply OTA updates. Reenable root with OTA Rootkeeper. Do NOT manually apply updates - you WILL lose root.
That is the process. Go back to the beginning and work your way forward to find all of the posts. You will see what worked and where people messed up. Don't take my word for it - it's out there.

Hello I have the tf300t and was wondering is it worth rooting just to get rid of the software I dont want which is quite extensive.
I have already did a ota update to jelly bean 4.1.1, version 10.4.2.18. And if the answer is yes which guide do you suggest.

You could disable unwanted apps in Settings-> Apps-> All apps.
Just be careful you don't disable anything important.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using Tapatalk HD
I agree with just disabling unwanted apps.
I have owned my tf300t for 8 months and have not yet unlocked or rooted it. I have been tempted, but really have not seen a reason to bother. Asus included an app backup utility for apk and data which is my typical root reason.
I have been very happy with the tablet in stock form, none of the custom roms have really grabbed my attention, although IF I do unlock I will install CyanogenMod.
I have already done that so I was wondering if rooting would be better.

Why wouldn't anybody root?
You could disable ads in apps, you could control which app does what (LBE Privacy Guard for example - not recommended on JellyBean though) you can not just only backup your apps but make a flashable zip out of your backed up apps, you can disable certain apps to run while the device is booting and even more.
And it's not really difficult to root this device (I don't own this device yet, but from what I read here it doesn't seem to be complicated at all - if you're willing to pay attention and think while doing it - you'd be wondered how many people act without thinking )
I was reading the statement on the program that unlocks the tf300t and read a part I had a question about. It said if used it might effect software that I bought has any one had this happen?
I bought a TF700 over christmas and like it but obviously don't like the lag issues as everyone else. I was about to unlock and install CROM and then news came out about an official ASUS update *sometime* in the future. If I unlock will that preclude me from getting that update if it turns out to be a great update? Should I hold off on unlocking because of that or just jump in and not worry about the future ASUS update?
I know there is no right answer, just looking for some opinions to help me make up my mind.
Thanks!

You're correct, unlocked device will no longer receives OTA, however custom rom 99% at the time, better and faster than stock rom. If in the future you want to run stock rom, you can manually update (pretty simple, open custom recovery and flash full Asus stock rom). So there you have it, the best of both world.
Awesome, so i can always flash back to stock if a future update is outstanding. Thank you, I will move forward with the unlock!
What he meant was that you could flash the update from Asus manually. You will never get an ota update after unlock. You will have to wait for them to post it to their website or get it from a forum member to do the update manually. They are usually pretty good about putting it on the website quickly, but thought you should know that.

Do you lose all your warranty coverage?
What if the screen goes out or has a lot of dead pixels?
This is my reason for not unlocking.
I have used numerous custom roms on other phones and my touch pad, but I don't think any of those came out and said you would lose your warranty if you used a custom rom
