Are they physically stuck (pressed in, won't come back up) or did they just stop working? I had the latter happen on my first MT4G. First the back button was flaky, then it stopped working, then the menu button stopped working. Took it back to t-mo and they replaced the phone. I've also seen a couple other posts about one or more buttons ceasing to function.

They still function 100%, but they feel as if the membrane's about to give. They don't have that "spring" like feeling.
I can "fix" them by sliding my exacto inbetween the buttons and the phone and lifting them up a bit, but that "fix" doesn't last for too long. I bought the phone outright so I've got a 30 day remorse period. I'm just a little worried that they're going to give me crap for it in the store. For that much money, the phone should be perfect (for at least 30 days right?) I don't want to wait, and then have it crap out after the 30 days have passed.
I've swapped 2 MT4G's in-store and I haven't had them give me any kind of trouble about it. Can't hurt to try.
Hey... i have noticed that the power button its getting less stable as days pass by... ive had my Infuse for only 1 month but i already can tell the difference with my sister Infuse that arrived 4 days ago... the power butting seems sunken and harder to press... is this something normal?
Anyone else experiencin this with the power button on their Infuse? Volume controls seem as new but the power button.... each day is getting more sunken and i mean i really take care of the Infuse, i havent dropped it not ONCE, havent got it on small palces that may have harmed the button etc... its just from on/off use...
It sometimes bugs me off a lot when i have a hard time to turn the infuse screen on....
Should i think of a change or repair?
I've started to notice this as well. I've had my infuse for just over 2 months, and my power button is mushy now. It used to give a satisfying click, where there was no mistaking that I had clicked it, now its soft and rarely clicks. I haven't dropped mine either, so its just regular wear and tear I guess. If it gets too bad I'll probably go for an exchange.

Not normal - return that thing to stock and send it in for warranty service before the power button fails on you.

I agree with Entropy512, this is not normal, bring it back before it fails.

I'd also suggest using "Lock Screen" from the market place. That way you don't have to use the hardware key to lock your screen. Preserve that power button a little longer.
I searched the forums for this issue, but seems like no one else has experienced this yet..!? I'm not sure how it happened, but just 2 days ago, my power button stopped responding. In other words, no matter how much pressure I put on it, or how long I hold it, my tablet will not turn on or wake up from sleep..! I'm not even sure how it happened. I just left it near on the floor propped up near my night stand earlier this week and the next morning I noticed I had a tough time turning my tablet on... (However, I did notice before this that sometimes my power button was way too sensitive and would ask if I wanted to power off the tablet, when all I did was press it for a second to put it to sleep. Guess, that was signs of eminent failure?)
And it's definitely a hardware and not a charging problem, since I can make my tablet turn on by removing it from the dock for a few secs and then reconnecting it, but obviously this is not acceptable. And other than that I don't know how else to turn it on...
I bought my tablet from Amazon, so I can't take it back to any store. Has anyone here had this problem before and tried to repair it themselves? Or has anyone at least tried to send their tablets in for repair to ASUS after unlocking the bootloader, rooting and loading a custom ROM? How did that go for you?
Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.
amazon has a superb return policy - at least here in germany - should be no prob in the US - just call them so they open a RMA for you - or send it to asus directly.

My power button was giving me the power off / restart reboot which had been driving me crazy. Took the back off and investigated. The actual power button mechanism is flimsy and not well put together. After attempts with tape, with brief success the reboots returned. Today I looked again and took of the small bit of plastic with the silver button on it and noticed it was not central. Carefully peeled off the silver power button and attached it in the centre. Applied some tape and another piece in the plastic physical button mechanism to help it spring back. The result is my power button feels perfect and no more reboots so far.

Thanks for the input, guys. Glad to hear I'm not the only one and that it seems to be something I can try and fix on my own... I was mostly worried it was well known problem and ASUS wouldn't repair the devices that were tampered with or had unlocked bootloaders, but looks like they may not be thoroughly checking that. And my return window from Amazon expired in late June, so I figured it wasn't worth going through them anymore, but I've never had to that before, so I'm not sure...

I just pulled off the back (it has pressure pins, so i just use my nails, 'bcuz i don't have the plastic tool..), the Power Button is a 'lil switch, the top metallic part is held to the bottom part by a transparent piece of tape, if its not centered, just carefully remove it and place in the center.. If it the tape have enough glue to hold it back, You can use to same piece of tape to hold it back together.. If not, You can use a standard hmm (don't remember the name..) transparent tape to do the job... Hopefully the button keeps in place for while....
n I had my infuse in my pocket and when I pulled it out it shut down on me, and ever since then all it does is reboot all the time. When I pull out the battery and put it back in, then phone just turns on by it self. When I try to charge it it shuts off then turns back on with the charging symbol and it does it over and over. I cant put put it and download mode and I can't put it into flash mode either. I brought it too two places to get it fixed and one person says the board is fried and the other tells me that it's bricked and he can't fix it..

Some one haduck by rapidly pressing the power button to get it unstuck
Another guy took his phone apart and sprayed the power button with compressed air to remove dust and other things that may be getting it stuck
And another guy replaced his with one from a different infuse
And another guy sent his in to some repair shop for I think $50 to get it fixed

Thank you guys, I'm gonna go and pick it up right now and check it out I will keep you guys posted ..
So, I got my phone back and I took it apart myself. I tried blowing out the phone with a dust remover spray and pressing the button to un-stick it and nothing happened. So I think it might be the actual button that is connect to the board on the phone. I don't know who to bring it too down here, cause it seems that everyone is afraid to change it for me. So I guess my Infuse is no longer in service and I'll be looking for another phone
Update, so it is the power button, I had booting up, but then it started to boot loop again. I just need to get the button replaced.

Good work by mg to recgonize the symptoms.
Not relevant to op, but something for everyone to consider: using a software tool to turn off your screen instead of power button.
If you put an icon on your homescreen to turn the display off (without pressing the power button), you save up to 50% of the cycles on your power button (or somewhat less if you tend to let the screen timeout instead of turning it off).
It can easily be done with tasker. The tasker command is called "System Lock" (sounds ominous, but just turns off the screen). I have that on my home screen, just above the home button. That makes it an easy two press maneuver to turn of the screen.
It looks like there are some free Apps on the market that do the same thing. Here's one (I haven't tried this one myself, just posting for info)

Hey guys, I fixed my infuse.
I took that bad boy apart and cleaned out the power button now its working like brand new . Thank you for all you help and happy flashing .

I I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket i727 (with stock firmware and ROM), i dont have a SD card and not too many apps installed either, maybe 10-15 apps at most. Today while the phone was in my pocket it just went into this continous reboot cycle, it reboots, gets to the AT&T splash screen and then reboots again and then this goes on forever.
I googled the hell out of this issue but cant seem to find a solid solution and hence hoping u guys can help.
I cannot get into recovery mode cause it never gets past the splash screen
I cannot seems to perform a hard reset (power button + volume key) , it just reboots again.
I tried plugging the phone and connecting via USB but it doesnt help either, it reboots before the computer can detect the phone.
Hope u guys can help ? life without android is no fun...

anyway to fix it or m i close to a paperweight by now. I do not have warranty on this phone
I explored the stuck power buton option and lightly banged the phoen around in hopes that it would let loose but no luck.

I had this same issue with my LG Phoenix, I tried the needle around the power button, and that popped it back to normal. Apparently I held the button down to a side and it got stuck even though the actual button part was in it's "normal," position.
However it did reboot several more times after I got it unstuck. I did remove the back & battery, & unplugged it. Let it sit for a few minutes, after that I put the USB cable back in, then pressed the power button, put the battery back in and pressed the button again, and it went through the normal reboot process.
Just wanted to give you guys an update that i started cleaning the part around the edges as some folks suggested and that failed. then tried smacking around and blowing air into and that failed. Then took the entire phone apart and cleaned it several times using different techniques and sad to say that it all failed and i m SOL.
Bummer but it is what it is and i was quiet happy with that phone.

Did you offer up Bacon to the phone as a snackrifice?
I'm sorry that none of these options worked out for you.
Its very easy to open I changed a motherboard for a hard bricked i727 very easy to change power button or unstuck it

Where does one find a power button for the skyrocket (the one attached to the motherboard)? The closest thing I could find was this:

It is a repair service though and I live in Canada, I would prefer if I could just order that part. I have been to few repair shops that cant do anything because this power button is hard to find. I opened up the motherboard and the power button clicks fine, so I think it probably has to be replaced.

My friend works in aerospace and had told me about one of the things they need to worry about is temperature causing wire shrinkage due to temperature. For whatever reason, I decided to use that logic and throw my phone in the freezer wrapped in a dry rag. 30min later and the phone finally worked after 8 hours of the boot loop/no boot. That was around November and I haven't had an issue with it since (until today, but it is a different issue).

can any one else confirm this? my phone keeps shutting off. when the screen is black, itll vibrate every second. im assuming its another stuck power button.

I have just fixed mine!!!!
There is a little battery on the circuit board when you take apart the phone. It looks like a small watch battery. Top side is and bottom side are opposite polarities.
I had the exact same symptom. Sometimes just pressing the power button momentarily would bring up the power down menu, then I knew to press it a bunch of times because it was stick. If I didn't eventually it would turn off and vibrate constantly. It kept getting worse.
I measured with an ohm meter and the button itself seems fine so I figured maybe the digital logic relating to the button itself is faulty. So I shorted the little battery on the board (do this only for a brief period, no more than 1s) and put it back together.
Its behaving perfectly normally. I was also getting weird artifacts during video playback before, kind of like what failing solder would do on a bga gpu. It fixed that too.
So I think its similar to that problem some laptops have, where it wont turn on until you remove the battery, hold the power button down a couple times, and then plug it in. It seems a complete circuit discharge fixed this problem at least for me.

In that picture its the silver shiny metal circle. To short it you connect the bottom soldered part to the metal plate on top of the battery. This comlpetely drains all circuits.
So I think a lot of these problems are caused by a phantom charge. In any sense, Im very very happy
Also this could explain why the fridge method worked. Cooling the battery can significantly drop its charge, however I would advise against the cooling method if possible.

You'd need to find a friend or local electronics repair shop, but I ordered some here:

The buttons are $0.99 USD if you buy 2 or more ($1.05 CAD), but 5-7 day business shipping is like $16.99. Still cheaper than a replacement phone, and it's an easy fix for an electronics person or electronics/tv/computer repair shop... At the rate these power buttons have had reported failures, and for the price, I'd get a couple of them in case the replacement fails in the future...
If my wife keeps squeezing the power button on her phone when some crappy app she has wigs out, I'll be needing my second button sooner rather than later...
why when one person says it something everyone band wagons on that idea. i actually had the same issue my skyrocket couldn't go pass the "samsung" screen. all i did was flash a new rom or i just restored an old backup

Then it was user error or a bad flash. And that's software, not hardware.
Skyrocket power buttons are known to fail. I believe Samsung has even acknowledged this.
When your phone randomly goes into a 1-second vibration cycle, sometimes showing the reboot menu beforehand without pressing the button, more than likely it's the power button that has either failed or is sticking.
With my wife's phone, the button was not sticking, and usually lightly tapping the phone at the right angle on your lap or the counter would break the vibration cycle and let it boot up, until the next random power button press and vib cycle would happen.
Button replaced, same exact ROM, and problem gone. :thumbup:

I have a repair shop and i fix these issues with no problem. the only issue im located in Puerto Rico. when the power button gets stuck is because of heavy use, a fall or something that makes a lot of pressure to it and the copper contacts inside the button stay making contact. this is know to happen to i727-i717-i997-i897 and some other galaxy s1 s2 models.
