Am I missing something big time? I just got back from a trip where I had terrible wifi connections. I turned on my TF700 and I noticed that all of my google accounts (one regular and two google apps) have "sync is off" for everything? Each subcategory has the option for "touch to sync now" but I can't find a way to turn on sync for the whole account. How do I do that?

On the very top right of the Accounts & Sync, you can notice an on/off switch. Turn that "On" and you will see the circular arrows next to the accounts turn green. If you then look at the subcategories, all of them will be enabled for syncing automatically.

How in the world would that get turned off in the first place?
Not sure since I turn mine off before I even add my Google account.

Hi, i've recently been trying out the mango OS on my LG E900, seems great so far but I've got a couple of queries.
First of all the status bar at the top, showing phone signal, 3g, battery life etc, how do I get that to stay at the top all the time?
Bing maps/turn by turn nav. Why do I have to constantly tap the screen to wake it? Also when it needs to re-calculate the route I have to tap the screen. Isn't there an auto setting? Seems bizarre that I have to take my eye off the road to wake the nav up.
In settings > application > 'phone' it shows my old phone number before my new one was ported across. Can I edit this in the registry? There is no edit option that I can see.

I believe the answer to that is, you can't

I think this is a known limitation at the moment.

I believe this is to do with your SIM card. The phone is simply displaying the number being presented to it by your SIM. I may be wrong there though.

You cannot. Windows Phone 7 was designed to only display that information when necessary.

Odd, if I am using navigation the screen will stay on for me and won't turn off. I think this is a bug that should be fixed because I've seen other people state this is happening to them too.
As for the phone auto-recalculating, there is no auto setting, and it's not a 'known limitation' but rather, by design. Hopefully they add an auto-recalculate option someday.

Your phone should automatically update your phone number after some time. While your new number takes effect immediately on your carrier's network, it can sometimes take time for your phone to reflect the change.

This "tap the screen" exercise has - as far as I know - legal reasons. Microsoft only got the right to use the Navteq map under the condition that they would not provide a fully automated turn by turn app. MS' work around is that they do offer turn by turn navigation, but since you have to tap the screen to make it advance to the next turn, it is not "fully automated".
Since Navteq is fully owned by Nokia and since Nokia and MS have partnered, one can hope that this stupid restriction will go away eventually.

Yep the turn by turn navi limitation is known and isn't OS limited. Its actually a licensing limitation. Some searching will bring up deeper legal reasons as stated above. And just get the Turn by Turn Navigation app. Its well sweet (and worth the $4.99) even in trial mode.
HTC Desire S, not rooted. Original ROM.
Yesterday I noticed my battery starting to plummet FAST.
As in 1% every two minutes I was on wifi.
It had been doing very well with no real issues.
I had installed a new keyboard, which I disabled thinking it might have been that. No go. Still plummeting.
Just under display at 64% was Dialer at 18% This is new, I'd only ever seen it if I'd been on the phone a long time. This time is was eating up the % when I'd never even made a call.
I killed every task I could see trying to find the cause. Nothing.
Then, out of luck, I noticed the sync icon flash for a micro second on the notification bar. It was doing this every 30 seconds.
I Looked around in synching and disabled everything. The icon stopped.
I enabled background data, but turned off auto sync. The icon remained off.
Then on the google part of the sync menu I clicked Google reader, Gmail, Calendar and Contacts .... Contacts came up with a little red (!) and a note saying Sync is currently experiencing problems, try again later.
no problems, I disabled it.
Now, on full charge I left the phone for 2 hours. Only thing on was Wifi. And, again "Dialer" is popping up under Display as being the top usage of battery?!!
I've not touched it! And the phone is back to loosing 1% every 2/4 minutes again.
Within "Dialer" in the About, battery etc I see Simtoolkit, Phone, Dialler storage as included packages.
That's all I know.
Can anyone offer a solution or idea as to what and why "dialer" is eating my battery like this?
Hello
I'm afraid that I can't explain but can say I've seen the same with Dialer before.
You did the right thing, in manually adjusting the syncing, that eats battery when phone should be idle....
I'd suggest that you read the sticky [GUIDE] Update 28/06/11: HTC Desire S Guide (V1.03) For Newcomers to Android which shold give you some pointers on battery usage.
Wasn't this that was fixed by going to Manage Applications/All and clearing data for "Contacts Storage"? I'm not 100% sure, but if you do clear the data for contacts storage you will probably need to resync any social network contacts. It won't delete your contacts though.

I have also seen this before, but not for a while now. I think it was an inherent bug with Android 2.3.3 and the Battery usage manager. Read through this thread where the DHD crowd have suffered the same issue...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1069251
Edit: just noticed you've already found it!
It appears that the reported percentage of use was invalid. If you select Dialer from the list, it'll say only a few seconds of CPU time and a few kb of data have been sent/received if things are normal. The actual percentage of use is being mis-represented by the bug.
Your battery drain (which is definitely not normal) may actually be coming from a different culprit. The Dialer could be a red herring.
I'm pretty sure since I've been on 2.3.4 I've not seen it since. Typically after the first sync and Google Contacts are all pulled down onto my phone, I turn the Contacts sync off. No need to keep syncing contacts when they rarely change. I do a manual sync if I add a contact.
Use this to track down the battery drain...

If this problem has started suddenly and you are on stock, the above should help point the finger in the right direction. As Ben has suggested give my guide a read too, and see if that helps. The first things I do after putting a new ROM on are;
1. Turn off 'Always On Mobile Data' in Mobile Networks.
2. Turn off 'Network notification' in WiFi Settings.
3. Turn off 'Best WiFi performance' in advanced WiFi settings.
4. Turn off 'Pocket Mode' in Sound settings. (A bad drain that one)
5. Turn off 'Auto screen brightness' in Display settings. (normally set to 25%)
6. Turn off 'News', 'Stocks', 'Contacts' and 'Google Reader' auto-syncing.
7. Set Weather sync to every 3 hours.
Would be interested to know what you discover. If you need further help, please ask!
Whilst I am aware that this happens occasionally at HTC's end, I just wanted to share some of the weird things that have happened recently.
The weather app is behaving erratically - have all location services enabled (bar GPS) and it refused to update the 'current location' when it auto syncs, or when I manually force it to sync. It has been stuck at the location I was in yesterday which isn't much use!
I have tried deleting the widget and reloading etc.
The only thing which makes it update is if I turn off 'Fastboot' and do a power cycle, then it works?
Anyone else had the same thing? Anything obvious I am missing?
Are you indoors? If so try to turn off GPS sync. That might work.
If not then navigate to menu> settings> applications> manage applications> all> and find weather widget, weather, and weather provider. Tap each one and choose Clear Data or Clear Cache for each one as needed. Then soft reset the phone by powering off, remove the battery for at least 30 seconds, replace it, then restart. This will ensure that all of the cached data and device RAM is cleared, and that your connection to your mobile network gets refreshed.
Hope this helps
Somehow I screwed up my Bluetooth settings when I turned it off to save battery life. Now when I go into settings - wireless there is no option to turn in on ( no wireless devices found). I then went into the services area I try to turn it Bluetooth services on but keep getting errors about the dependency services and / or the account for this service is different than the accounts for the dependency services. I tried to correct this by these dependent services do not allow to make changes.
I also tried to open bthprops.cpl but this did not open .
Can someone export out their registry settings from the registry or make recommendations as to what else to try to change this.
Thanks in advance
I can turn mine off as expected, and like you switched it off to save battery, not tested to see how much it saves but still..
Is it still in device manager?
You've probably deactivated your Bluetooth in device manager, so this is what you do. (sorry if you a lady know how but this is for people who don't know)
Right click on 'My Computer'
Click 'Manage'
On the left hand side there will be a tab called 'Device Manager' click it.
Then find Bluetooth and enable it.
I think Bluetooth really needs work on the RT OS, because it's stupidly hard to turn it on and choose different hardware.
Nope, wasn't in the device manager.
Was gone, tried to activate the Bluetooth services, this didn't help.
Not sure how it just disappeared.
Did a reinstall of just the files, without losing my settings . All is good now.
I know that I won't be turning this off.
I wish there were apps that toggled the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth settings , Display brightness etc. It's cumbersome to go into settings and drill around to find these settings all the time. Would be ideal to have this as a tiled feature so it's easily accessible.
Thanks for the suggestions as this issue is now closed.

Agreed, I also wish it was in the charms bar to make it easier. Also there is no easy way of making the sound go to Bluetooth speaker... you can't click devices... which pisses me off.
am I missing out on something?
you can adjust the brightness and wifi settings right from the charms menu and you can even deactivate bluetooth using the airplane mode... what's missing?

How many steps do you need to go through to get to the Bluetooth settings ( I count 4).
Swipe Charm, press settings, press change pc settings, press wireless, then swipe the toggle
I just want a live tile that I can toggle Bluetooth or any other settings that I have to drill down into charms to get at.
Win+i -> Networks -> Airplane Mode. If you don't have a keyboard, the first step becomes Swipe for Charms -> Settings. If you're already on the desktop, the first two steps become "click the WiFi indicator in the system tray".
Don't get me wrong, such rapid-toggle stuff would be cool, but I spend almost all my time on the desktop or within very easy reach of it, and very, very little time needing to switch wireless networks on or off.
I have a rooted Verizon S3. My battery life had been less than perfect on a variety of ROMs including stock. I am currently using Scott's Clean ROM 8.1.
If I manually turn off GPS, turn off "Access Location" in the new Google Settings and turn off Google Now, I have heroic battery life. I rarely miss the features I've turned off unless I'm in my car, at which point I turn on GPS, go to Google Setting and enable Access Location, etc. and then back again when I leave the car..
Is there an app I can use to create a one touch toggle/widget to easily change these 3 settings without digging into menus, etc? I bought tasker but it seems I'm a bit "thick" and can't figure it out there.
Thanks

If you navigate to your google account under settings and under privacy there will be 3 options, Search, Location and Ads. Tap on Location. Then the menu will show the recent location requests and location services. At the top there will be a toggle for Location [ON/OFF] turn it on and right below that there is a setting for [Mode] I use location mode: Battery saving. It uses Wi-Fi and mobile networks to determine location. With this setting enabled you do not need to have Wi-Fi or GPS turned on. And as soon as you toggle your GPS on it will switch from battery saving mode to [High Accuracy Mode] which gets the fastest and best position. So if you have those settings enabled you will only need a toggle for GPS on your home screen. Hope that helps a bit.
