Weather App not updating properly - HTC Sensation

Whilst I am aware that this happens occasionally at HTC's end, I just wanted to share some of the weird things that have happened recently.
The weather app is behaving erratically - have all location services enabled (bar GPS) and it refused to update the 'current location' when it auto syncs, or when I manually force it to sync. It has been stuck at the location I was in yesterday which isn't much use!
I have tried deleting the widget and reloading etc.
The only thing which makes it update is if I turn off 'Fastboot' and do a power cycle, then it works?
Anyone else had the same thing? Anything obvious I am missing?

Are you indoors? If so try to turn off GPS sync. That might work.
If not then navigate to menu> settings> applications> manage applications> all> and find weather widget, weather, and weather provider. Tap each one and choose Clear Data or Clear Cache for each one as needed. Then soft reset the phone by powering off, remove the battery for at least 30 seconds, replace it, then restart. This will ensure that all of the cached data and device RAM is cleared, and that your connection to your mobile network gets refreshed.
Hope this helps

Verizon Touch Pro 2 - Will Not Enter Sleep Mode!

Hey everyone,
I need your help figuring out why my Touch Pro 2 will not enter sleep mode on it's own. For some reason, the back light will dim, but the screen will stay on even though I have all my settings correct in the power management settings. Has anyone experienced this before? I think the fact my phone will not sleep automatically really impacts my battery life as I can barley make it from 7AM-5PM with barely using it much. It use to work fine, but now it doesn't. I've even done a format of the device twice, but still that doesn't seem to fix the issue.
Any help or advice is appreciated.
Not sure what programs you have loaded but try cold boot, see if works. Then check as you add one program at a time.
There is also an option under settings/battery/advanced to force the device to sleep after a period of time.
@ Aspesi4
Did you ever find a solution for this? I'm having the same issue.
I'm not sure when it started as I have a habit of putting the phone to sleep manually before I holster it.
If I lock the phone, the screen will dim, and at intervals, get bright again on its own. If I leave it at the TF Home Screen, it will stay bright and never dim.
I just can't bring myself to hard reset this phone right now . . lol. Maybe when I have more time. For now, I'll keep manually putting the phone to sleep .. . . sort of a muscle memory thing anyway. I wouldn't mind fixing it though, either.
Nope, never solved this problem. Sorry, I think you're on your own on this one.
I have also been experiencing this problem. I just got my Verizon Touch Pro 2 about two weeks ago. I have only added a handful of apps (WinMo MarketPlace, NetFlix Mobile manager, AP Mobile News, WeatherBug, and Shazam. I am pretty sure it was doing this before Shazam.) I think the phone was doing this even before I installed anything on it, but not certain. This is what I noticed;(I had T-Mobile's version and it did not have this issue.) I was amazed that my new Verizon Touch Pro2 was draining its battery life much more quickly than my TMobile version. Then I figured it out; when ever I get any notice on my phone (missed call, text message, phone notification)the screen lights up. This is normal. However, what is not normal is that the screen stays on until I manually acknowledge the notification or I manually hit the sleep button. I have the power management settings to turn off the backlight if not used for 30 sec and to put the phone to sleep after 1 minute. I tested it a few times to see if it would eventually turn off, 1 minute, 3 minute, up to 15 minutes and it still stayed on. . .
htc touch pro 2 won't enter sleep mode
It's the weather program that keeps it awake ...Slider Bar -> Settings -> Data Download Weather -> Uncheck download weather automatically
htc touch pro 2 won't enter sleep mode
"It's the weather program that keeps it awake ...Slider Bar -> Settings -> Data Download Weather -> Uncheck download weather automatically"......
Agreed it is the weather program.
Specifically I turned off my location data collection..... Settings > Location > Improve Location Service (Slide to off). This worked! However out of interest I switched it back on and my backlight still sleeps OK, I just hope this problem doesn't keep randomly popping up.
I'm experiencing the same issue, suddenly...
But when I re-enable the Location option, it won't go into sleep...
Any ideas how to fix this?
bloddy idiots. HTC adds fancy animated auto-downloading weather at GPS location and break the ability to turn the phone on or answer calls! Quietly BRILLIANT!!!!!! idiots.

[Q] "Dialer" has started to eat my battery?! What to do?

HTC Desire S, not rooted. Original ROM.
Yesterday I noticed my battery starting to plummet FAST.
As in 1% every two minutes I was on wifi.
It had been doing very well with no real issues.
I had installed a new keyboard, which I disabled thinking it might have been that. No go. Still plummeting.
Just under display at 64% was Dialer at 18% This is new, I'd only ever seen it if I'd been on the phone a long time. This time is was eating up the % when I'd never even made a call.
I killed every task I could see trying to find the cause. Nothing.
Then, out of luck, I noticed the sync icon flash for a micro second on the notification bar. It was doing this every 30 seconds.
I Looked around in synching and disabled everything. The icon stopped.
I enabled background data, but turned off auto sync. The icon remained off.
Then on the google part of the sync menu I clicked Google reader, Gmail, Calendar and Contacts .... Contacts came up with a little red (!) and a note saying Sync is currently experiencing problems, try again later.
no problems, I disabled it.
Now, on full charge I left the phone for 2 hours. Only thing on was Wifi. And, again "Dialer" is popping up under Display as being the top usage of battery?!!
I've not touched it! And the phone is back to loosing 1% every 2/4 minutes again.
Within "Dialer" in the About, battery etc I see Simtoolkit, Phone, Dialler storage as included packages.
That's all I know.
Can anyone offer a solution or idea as to what and why "dialer" is eating my battery like this?
Hello
I'm afraid that I can't explain but can say I've seen the same with Dialer before.
You did the right thing, in manually adjusting the syncing, that eats battery when phone should be idle....
I'd suggest that you read the sticky [GUIDE] Update 28/06/11: HTC Desire S Guide (V1.03) For Newcomers to Android which shold give you some pointers on battery usage.
Wasn't this that was fixed by going to Manage Applications/All and clearing data for "Contacts Storage"? I'm not 100% sure, but if you do clear the data for contacts storage you will probably need to resync any social network contacts. It won't delete your contacts though.

I have also seen this before, but not for a while now. I think it was an inherent bug with Android 2.3.3 and the Battery usage manager. Read through this thread where the DHD crowd have suffered the same issue...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1069251
Edit: just noticed you've already found it!
It appears that the reported percentage of use was invalid. If you select Dialer from the list, it'll say only a few seconds of CPU time and a few kb of data have been sent/received if things are normal. The actual percentage of use is being mis-represented by the bug.
Your battery drain (which is definitely not normal) may actually be coming from a different culprit. The Dialer could be a red herring.
I'm pretty sure since I've been on 2.3.4 I've not seen it since. Typically after the first sync and Google Contacts are all pulled down onto my phone, I turn the Contacts sync off. No need to keep syncing contacts when they rarely change. I do a manual sync if I add a contact.
Use this to track down the battery drain...

If this problem has started suddenly and you are on stock, the above should help point the finger in the right direction. As Ben has suggested give my guide a read too, and see if that helps. The first things I do after putting a new ROM on are;
1. Turn off 'Always On Mobile Data' in Mobile Networks.
2. Turn off 'Network notification' in WiFi Settings.
3. Turn off 'Best WiFi performance' in advanced WiFi settings.
4. Turn off 'Pocket Mode' in Sound settings. (A bad drain that one)
5. Turn off 'Auto screen brightness' in Display settings. (normally set to 25%)
6. Turn off 'News', 'Stocks', 'Contacts' and 'Google Reader' auto-syncing.
7. Set Weather sync to every 3 hours.
Would be interested to know what you discover. If you need further help, please ask!

WiFi drain when not on WiFi?

Left phone on over night without charging, 7 hours drained 5 percent but I made sure WiFi was off. Wake up to see WiFi drained the most battery.
Stock n rooted, cleared all recent apps
Hi there, try this: Go to settings, tap Wi-Fi, tap menu overflow button, go to advanced, then see if Scanning always available is checked. If so uncheck. I keep everything here off except Wi-Fi optimization.

Yeah it was on. What a dumb thing to have on default
Sneaky Google.
i think that having this checked actually saves battery in some cases. You can see for yourself you only drained 5% in 8hrs which is pretty darn good. Isn't anything near 1% an hour while idling considered good? My guess is that it is being used for you google now and some other apps. For example, since google now periodically updates based on location using wifi is much more battery efficient than GPS. Same goes for other apps that might update in the background that need location services.

Seven common Android problems and how to fix them

1.Battery drain
Numerous users have reported problems with the battery life of their devices. One of the easiest ways to prolong your smartphone's battery is to change your locations and brightness settings.Enter the settings menu, click on Location, and select battery saving mode. As for brightness, you should avoid using auto-brightness and instead turn your screen down somewhere below halfway, or to a level that is acceptable for your eyes.
2.Frozen and slow user interface
Phones typically begin to slow down as their internal storage fills up. Try deleting unused apps and photos, or moving them to the cloud or a microSD card. In addition, you should close open apps that you are no longer using, delete app cache, and limit the use of live wallpapers. An app's cached data can be deleted be going to Settings, clicking on Apps, selecting a certain app, and choosing the "Clear cache" option. Programs such as App Cache Cleaner and Clean Master, both of which are available for free from the Google Play store, can also be used to automate the process of clearing cache.
3.Connectivity issues
If you have are having a problem connecting to Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or your cellular network, enable Airplane mode for 30 seconds, toggle it off, and try connecting again. Sometimes simply toggling the specific connection can also solve the problem.Still having issues? Try repairing or setting up your Bluetooth device or Wi-Fi network again.
4.Stalled text messages
Ensure you are connected to the Internet either through Wi-Fi or cellular, click on the unsent message, and click the "resend" option. If the problem continues, try restarting your device or even installing a third-party messaging app.
5.Syncing error
There are numerous steps you can take to address problems with syncing. First, ensure that you are connected to the Internet, and that the service you are trying to sync with, such as Google or Dropbox, isn't down. Double check that your password is correct and try syncing again.
6.App crashes
Apps can crash for all sorts of reasons. Is there an update available for either the app or your phone? If so, install it.If not, force close the app by swiping it away in the multitask menu (pictured above) and then reopen it.
7.Unresponsive screen
You may want to throw your phone against the wall when it begins to malfunction, but there isn't a need to panic. Most problems are fixed with a simple restart. Although if you physically damaged your phone or dropped it in water, you may have bigger problems on your hands.Press the power button and let the phone turn off, but wait a minute or two before powering it back on.
Hope these advice can help you, thank you!

Sync (data?) OFF when screen is off

* Often when I work the mobile is at my desk but I still comunicate by sending SMS and using Whatsapp in my webbrowser. Works fine with Samsung and Huawei but with my new Mi10 Ultra id does not work. Connection is lost and I have to tuch some key on the phone to light up the screen and then it syncronizes.
I have set permissions for the apps to allow both autostart and not affected by the battery saver in the system.
I have also set the "data usage" for the apps to allow background data.
...but still, background data for SMS and whatsapp IS deactivated until I light up the screen.
Has anyone run into this problem? Is there any general (mayor) switch for this that I have missed?
This happens to me with Gmail. Sometimes they come in on the lockscreen and sometimes I have to turn the phone on for them to appear. I still have this problem on my Samsung S20 Ultra but I learned to live with it since I never figured out what the problem was. I have no such problems with my SMS or WhatsApp though. Everything else for me seems to be coming through.

Hi there. I pretty much have the same problem with this phone. If it's not permissions nor background data, it's the power saving feature, which is the most aggressive I've seen yet.
I was talking with someone about this in another thread, but I was instructed to turn off battery saver. It got better for a day, but it kind of returned back the way it was. I think you could try and play around with the power saving settings for the apps you want immediate notifications from, which I haven't had time to do. Please let me know how it goes for you and I'll find time to play with it this weekend.
