Chameleon Launcher Beta - Things to dream about (for the full version...) - Android General

There it is, chameleon Launcher BETA...
Locks great, smooth and clean,... and having it running for a moment starts me thinking about a B I G wishlist of features....
Some of them might be part of the final release later this year, some (most of them ) might not...
So here it is, my personal five-minutes-after-registration-think-about-wishlist, ....maybe you got some ideas, too???
General:
...possibility to change appp-icons on homescreen-dock - to keep the clean look (a little bit metro - sorry Win8 - isn`t it? Like it !!!)
...change the colours, titles and icons of "widget-frames" - to keep up the design
Widgets:
...Galerie-widget / for local stored pictures and movie-files
...Contact-widget / to select people and the way to communicate with them
...Calendar-widget / ...
...Agenda-widget / ...
...todo-list-widget / ...
...Blog-widget / to read and write your personal blog (blogger?)
...XBMC-widget / select your local (xbmc4android) or NAS-based Video-library and select movies and read all informations, like a personal imdb-database
...imdb-widget / great !
...music-library-widget / also for xbmc ???
...Mail-widget / for all types of accounts (exchange,...)
...pocket-widget / ...(read-it-later)
...bookmarks-widget
...App-launcher-widget / a jumplist like "Folder-organizer" as a scrollable list for a category of apps e.g. graphics...
...messenger widget / instant messaging for single contacts e.g on gtalk
...TV-widget / don´t know how to do it.... but having the EPG of selected Stations would be great
...Dreambox-widget / like a musicplayer widget to use it as remote
...more to come....

This is not a development thread. Moved to General.

Free applications as per request

Hi all
I am a software developer and I am interested in developing smartphone applications on my spare time (and I have a lot) for free.
What I need is ideas…. Meaning, me my self has HTC Diamond and all of my application needs is modest but I am sure that you guys probably have more needs then I do and …. My be you can help me help you … so bring on the ideas (… just not themes and all of this kind of applications).
Thanks
A connection type choosing utility would be highly useful - to forget about choosing between 3G and/or WLAN. More info

can you make a really simple program with no ui that lets me map a button to turn off the screen on my tilt?
also i would like an app to play a high pitch sound to ward off misquotes.
hey!
i have a nice idea!you could make and app like beat dj on samsung m7600 with scratch and all that things..
an application to after soo many seconds, and or when one turns off, then on the deivice that will kill a certain application - Example - I'd like to kill Pockethackmaster after it starts up, and sets the desired speed - no need to keep it running in the background...
Another idea - The ability to clear duplicate notifications on every soft reset - I tried one, but - it doesn't work to clear all the duplicate RTC notifications that come up after every soft reset or so...
also an auto memory defragmentor, and cleaner would be nice...
and of course - on startup/reset - pre-cache all startmenu icons (example - I just have a short menu so I go thru programs, and then from there games, etc.. again pre-caching these startmenu program. etc.. icons would be nice)...
edit forgot to add: WM2003 compatible please...
People, I'd recommend using this duplicate file finder to deal with unnecessary files on your hard drive. It has many functions, user-friendly interface, safety options and 100% efficiency.
what about inventory mobile? we have a list of products with price and current quantity, then we can insert new invoice that will decrease the quantity from the product table. just like Mini Point of Sales???
An activesync status monitor - so I can see at a glance if I'm still connected to my exchange server - a green icon in the top bar for ok, and grey for disconnected...?
Thanks.
Oooh, ooh, just thought of another one - an mp3 player that when minimized will pop up a window for say 5 seconds each time a new track is played with the track name and a skip button. Handy when using sat nav and the mp3 player in the car.
csharpcoder do you think that you will do any of these ideas?

Freda is nice! Very finger-friendly and besides the terrible ZuluReader the only e-reader that reads the most widely used "epub" format.
HELLO!! GREAT THREAD!!
JUST A QUESTION: IS THE OPERA MOBILE 10 BETA 2 VERSION REALLY COMPATIBLE WITH HD2???? thanks
Good thread, saves searching around.
Maybe you could add a list of the games that work well e.g. Xtract, Electopia, Experiment 13 etc
How about:
1. weathercityeditor - excellent for adding towns/cities to default list
2. xdaShutdown - soft reset via software
Both work well for me on HD2...

Yes. It is working without issues for me. Faster than the default one and nice graphics. Except the fact that it doesn't support true pinch to zoom like default opera.

Beginners Guide to APPS for Android 1.6 / 2.1 / 2.2 etc...

There really needs to be a thread dedicated for the top 20 or top 50 apps you will need for a new Android phone.
I just got my HTC Wildfire today (A3333), and i've had an HTC Diamond for aaages but i don't know what to do!
One was Windows Mobile, the other Andoid!
- So which applications are "a must"?
- Which applications are recommended to replace existing features of Android?
- What paid applications are VERY useful and everyone should have?
- GPS / Office / Wireless / Sync / Management / Backups etc Software Recommendations? (if you have WM6.5/WM6.1 then see my Destinator v5/6/7 Topic for 80+ maps! )
Then also a quick overview / step-by-step tutorial to installing your first Application!
Just an idea

Best applications for Android +wishlist

[edit] This thread seems to be forgotten or unneeded. Last update. [/edit]
Hi. I've found no thread about this topic usable to me, so I want to create one.
I have already a bunch of apps for certain purposes. I would like to ask you all which apps could be better for same purposes or which apps could do different things in the same topic those apps do. If this thread will grow, i will maintain the first post to "rate" some propositions with short descriptions of cons and pros.
Of course, I prefer free apps. Only circumstance where paid can exist is lack of free ones. Where free exists, there is no place for paid ones until it offers great kick to functionality.
1. GPS navigation/toold/positioning
- [PAID] Sygic. Not free, but usable trial, as far seems to be best offline. I see no other choices free, and paid ones I've seen are just worse than Sygic.
- LifeLogger
- GPS Logger
- Open GPS Tracker
2. Drive loggers/recorders/blackboxes etc.
- Autoboy Blackbox, best so far
- CarEyes, good but crashes time to time (not often), mostly when phone rings - only one that is completely free
- DailyRoads Voyager, usable
3. Photography
- Original HTC camera app. I see no point to install anything more maybe not mentioning panorama - I would like to install just one app which does it, but saw nothing good and stable yet.
- 3D Gallery (Gallery++)
4. Video
- Same as above, HTC. Any propositions? (here and above I mean usable features, no fancy needs if you ask me like stupid filters or so)
5. Music/Sound
- Same as above, HTC.
- Need good quality recorder (both mp3 AND wav) with silence detections capable of recording whole day for example (DHD connected to power source)
- Need voice bookreader, not audiobook reader but reader of PDFs for example using voice synthesis like Ivona (must be unintrusive - original google shipped voice synthesis is a crap and lacks other languages)
6. File managers
- Total Commander
- Midnight Commander
- Astro File Manager
7. Backup
- Titanium Backup
- MyBackup Root
Both has bugs. Both cannot solve rom differences while exporting/importing phonebook and call hostory (titanium does not correctly do anything at all between Sense 3.0 and Sense 3.5, and mybackup does not do the call history).
8. Remote
- Avast as a firewall
- DroidWall waiting "in case"
- SSHDroid (the only choice?)
- Network Discovery
- Overlook Fing (actual name: Fing - Network Tools by Overlook), Overlook Whiz
- [BETA but working stable] Droid VNC Server
9. App management
- Android Market REPLACEMENT - AM is sh*tty app. Crashes, unreadable (no option to change font size or so, I want to save my eyes), has only basic filters on searches, etc. Someone should use the api and write stable and flexible one which can download apps too from market (local management isn't enough! - plenty of apps here)
10. Task managers
- System tuner
- Elixir
11. Battery guards/monitors
- System tuner
12. Call
- Call Recorder (only available for DHD recording from line directly)
- Sanity
And RunKeeper for fitness....
I've not seen it, but added to the list (good score on market, and seems to be quite usable from the descriptions)
Why not also posting games? Great topic, very useful.
I don't mind about games, but I'll not look at them, I can just re-post them at first post basing on market popularity rating. I have no time and eyes for such games . Feel fre to talk about any good software, games too

Just bought first windows phone

I acquired a Samsung Focus and am completely new to this platform (android before) and I am wondering what can I do to it if anything and how complex it is compared to android
What apps should I go for etc!
Thanks!

there are some good sites with reviews on apps for WP7. I typically use WPCentral to get educated about useful and new apps. I am only familiar with Android from my HP Touchpad, but I believe the WP7 platform is more manageable or overseeable. I get easily lost in all the functions and apps with Android. You might say WP7 is limited in that way (e.g. customization) but I actually like it (ymmv).
good apps (all relative, depends on your needs) on my list are:
Thumba photo editor, BBC News Mobile, RSS Central, USA Today, RAD Now!, Weather Live, Pageonce, WhatsApp, ...I'm a WP7!, XDA Developers, easyRing, Network Dashboard, Tasks...........................
Of course you should know how to unlock your phone to be able to sideload homebrew and apps to customize your WP7 device. Here is a good start.
Awesome. Thankyou for the link and suggestions for apps! appreciate it
