1. There is a brand new HTC CAB (program) collection HERE. It’s, to my knowledge, the largest and most up-to-date collection of HTC’s own programs, ready to be installed on any WM5+ phone. It’s really worth reading the descriptions of the CAB’s to quickly find out what these small utilities really do. It’s REALLY worth – some of these apps are excellent; for example, HTC Equalizer reviewed HERE and HTC Streaming Media reviewed HERE. There are tons of other, useful utilities in there – do check them out!
2. There is a new music player at works, Lumen. Also see THIS MoDaCo thread.
It, right now, is totally useless and nothing really more than some screenshots - it's unable to play anything, as can also be seen HERE.
As the player is written using the, for multimedia / gaming, sloooooooow Compact Framework 2 (CF2), I don’t think you can expect it to be fast at playing back anything, unless it calls native code. All in all, I don’t think you should bother.
3. There are several threads on adding SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) support for models that, officially (not even via official ROM upgrades), don’t support this technology. The latest of them is HERE. Note that there are a LOT of (sometimes contradicting) reports of it NOT working on some models – that is, you WILL want to backup your device before installing the patch. I’ll also report more on it as soon as I receive my brand new 6 GB microSDHC card.
4. Several people use the built-in Pictures & Videos program (note that its previous, pre-WM5, as can also be seen in THIS pretty much important article, name was Pictures) to quickly watch their pictures. (Not that it is of any good – there are MUCH faster, MUCH better image viewer apps out there; the brand new PQV 4.0, Resco and Spb Imageer are the three most important & recommended ones, as has also been explained in the Image Viewer & Editor Bible. Note that Glass Lantern has just gone out of business; therefore, I no longer recommend their PocketLoupe any more, no matter how excellent it was. RIP Glass Lantern, yours was a great product!
Now, MoDaCo forum member mandt has published a quick tip on how you can make Pictures & Videos use a default directory different from \My Documents. If you use these LNK files (you can safely edit them to point to any directory), you can greatly speed up the startup and the initial directory lookup of your pictures.
5. Fring, the most revolutionary, multiplatform, real VoIP client (see THIS article for more info), didn’t use to work on the Qualcomm-based HTC Kaiser (AT&T Tilt), the current flagship model of HTC – the speech became complete garbage, independent of the transfer speed (not that Fring were as dependent on the speed as Skype – actually, it’s perfectly usable over EDGE connections and, if only one party speaks, even over GPRS). The current version, however, fixes this problem. That is, you can safely download the new version into the Kaiser. To do this, the easiest is navigating to http://www.fring.com from your handset and just click the download link.
Sorry for the double post - I put this under apps and themes as well - I know how in demand a program like this has been and I know not all users search both forums, thinking it was not possible. Moderator may remover or migrate this thread if they wish:
Original:
Credit goes to the original poster (you can download the APK files off xda website - I am a new member so I cannot post links in thread yet (just search under android app and development - hacking section if you want to locate the original thread):
I have reattached the APK files for convenience (v6 is for 2.0+, v3 is for anything below 2.0). You can also dl from the original thread if its still active.
Description:
Simple APK file and you are set - only works for swf files (not flv files - no conversion compatibilities/works poor on games). It works, but poor for file management, very little controls other than pausing (no picture resolution adjustments, controls to skip or fast forward rewind, speed controls, or playlist management), but the program parses .swf well and played well (it's just choppy) - it does not work like a shockwave player where you can play games and have interactive controls but it does display slideshows well.
I noticed speed of slideshow can sometimes increase or decrease depending on how/if the phone is rotated (personal observation). If anyone knows of a better program for android 2.1 and below (root or not - I use stock deox OC 710 mhz with good mem management and class 6 sd card apps2sd - large swap file and dalvik cache off sd), please let me know? I searched for over a yr and this was as close as I could find. I am happy to have found this but I am almost positive someone knows something or could improve on this even slightly?
Comments:
Per my understanding, there is currently no android port for this type of application, per my understanding and Adobe Flex/Air is still in the works for Android.
The best you could do with .swf files was to convert them either within the media player you used (there are none currently that do this, not now at least, if you know of one please share!!! - even those that claim to do it will not or will run into stability issues, or would be ridiculously expensive - some work on 2.2 I think), there used to be one which I used and it worked which was free in the android market way back in the day of 1.5/1.6 stock sense ui, but, whatever media player that was, it since has been removed from the marketplace or had the feature removed and I cannot find posts for it anywhere else on the web. I tested several players by the way on several settings, even ones for arm7 processors and even swapped roms to stable 2.2 cyanogen on cdma hero - this is sadly as good as it got for me?
The only way I was able to do this was to take the .swf file(s) and manually convert it on a PC (batch/or not) or to run it through the browser off my sd card, like dolphin (this is a pain and slow and there is no functional control).
It was thought to be impossible unless someone could port Gnash to android or some other open source swf player from a linux platform (android is more java than linux, I think? plus the arm6 processor limitations - this was considered unfeasible, you'd be better off programming a shockwave player from scratch than reverse engineer code, I think, even so, without Flex/open GL fixes, or some other mem management, it's not really worth the effort or risk).
Some company, apparently tried, and gave up because of this, I guess, but posted a feasible app for android which works - I think it could be improved on significantly - the dev has his email in the app about section - it just has limits and always defaults to the sd card directory when done vs. going back to folder where the swf files are located.
If anyone knows of a better program over this, again, please share (even paid vid player converter which can do playlists/sound/and/or even controls)! Otherwise, I am glad to share this with everyone - I have been looking "forever" for something like this - I just wish it had more controls or better file browsing/management. Maybe someone would want to work on this project?
Cheers,
Joe.
My phone is getting a bit tired now, the battery is weak(er), and it's more temperamental every day.
I can't afford a new one right now, but I'm not sure what to 'dream' of even now... I'm unsure of WM7 and like Android but hear it can be sluggish.
I've got an aging TouchHD and I've run various tasty ROMs and been quite content.
My dream phone would have the following 'features' in it's repertoire:
- Obviously, Bluetooth, GPS, Camera, Video (not used it much but I like it)
- High speed Internet
- WiFi that can be left running in the back ground with phone on standby. When in range.
- Full screen web browsing with full Flash 9/10 support (think youtube in a browser)
- The compass function in the HD2 was pretty cool too.
- Sensible hardware buttons, at least 2 programmable.
- and a big screen, fancy GUI, highly customisable, and supported by XDA-DEV's
I use my phones features most in the sort of order:
- As a phone
- As a clock
- Media player (till it got all hot and unreliable)
- Internet browser (generally checking things to be viewed later on a PC)
- A SAT-NAV
- A camera
- A diary
- A tool for work (diagnosing wireless networks, accessing and repairing LAN)
- For youtube (I don't like the app though, would prefer it in a browser and support for others like wimp.com)
- Updating social networks
- Games
- Notes
- Portable media device
What do you guys think?
Go with the new 16gb HD7 on WM7 or something else... I just dunno!
For those who use this app, and like it more than the official lite English version.
Attached is the latest (beta) Chinese version Google English translated and repacked+signed.

For older versions check this thread.
Or check market.
Note:
I have experienced issues with apps's functionality if it's not installed from clean slate. Even when using backup/restore functionality of LBE or TitaniumBackup.
I strongly recommend uninstalling previous versions before upgrading and to reconfigure the app from scratch.

Read comment again. Clearly states edit instead of translated.
But let me make it even clearer: Did you just copy paste what you saw in Google translate or did you edit the text after letting Google **** it up?
Don't get me wrong I appreciate the effort but you could make the translation so much better by just using common sense.
I'm willing to translate it for you, if you can send me the text file or whatever.

meant Google translated. Not manual edit apart from some special chars.
Have no time to translate manually. There are many strings. If you want you can extract strings yourself with apktool.
Or I can attach later if you want.

Hi zagzag
I don't seem able to find the download link to 3.1.1549 version on lbesec.com. Since this version is recommended I would like to give it a try. Any chance you can attach it to the op please? Thanks in advance.

Thank you for the link. Unfortunately, this one is in chinese language. I'll wait for the English version.
By the way, a general comment about the LBE's saga...
I think the efforts to improve the application should be seen as a positive thing. I've got a feeling I can trust the LBE's developer(s). A bit unfortunate no one in the development team is fluent in English. Kaspersky security software product is developed in Russia, so the location of the developer/vendor means nothing really.
Still on the matter... There are more people in the UK in prisons than the hackers in China who are after my credit cards. That doesn't make all British people criminals.
Updated OP with newer version.

Thank you.
Here is my very quick feedback...
The number of new features are very impressive.
Everything is configurable to your liking.
I have monitored the two main processes using OSMonitor app and couldn't detect anything suspicious. Since I disabled all reporting services I did not notice LBE making network connections.
After install I restarted the phone, it was an requirement.
I have checked the applications that would connect to the internet to pull adverts and as far as I could tell LBE was blocking them successfully.
The process usage has always been impressive in version 2 and I can say the same thing about 3 now. Please note; I use my phone extensively everyday and I use upto three batteries. I can easily tell if my battery usage has noticeably changed. Each battery gives me 6-9:30 hours of continuous use.
The interface looks really good and very distinguish from the rest.
Being still in alpha obviously, the interface requires a lot of attentions. For instance, going back to the app list of Active Defense from individual app setup screen does not maintain the application position. Things become bad when the system apps being shown.
It looks like the trusted app view is gone, which is a step backward in terms of usability.
Ok, I need to submit this now as my bus stop is next. Overall I'm very pleased with LBE so far. Thank you guys.
thanks for this!
Just a quick update...
I'm still alive after installing the latest build but unfortunately it was unstable -- reverted to version 2.x now.
Just a suggestion, if I may. Due to the number of new features I can tell how the team/dev are/is busy. However, it would be a good plan to fix version 2.x issues first. I just reverted to a version that I knew is not stable. For one, I have to keep my eyes on the settings to make sure they are not changed inappropriately. Thank you.
Thanks, best program I have installed. Just brilliant
So what's the difference between "LBE Security Manager" and "LBE Privacy Guard", if I may ask?

It is the same only the version posted here is the newest beta, translated by the OP.
Not a big fan of it being able to do things that cost me money. Why is that permission there now?

That's how the permission is called but the feature behind it is that lbe can track your data plan costs and limit apps using data when you reach your limit.
This is good for those that don't have flat rate unlimited data plans.
