Which smartphone has the brightest flashlight? - General Questions and Answers

I currently have the Galaxy S2. I often use the LED as a flashlight to light up my room so I don't have to get up and turn the light on. Was wondering which phone has the brightest LED? What are the Galaxy S3 and HTC one x like?

in my experience, i've noticed that HTC phones typically have a very bright flashlight, IMHO.

I don't know which phone has the brightest flashlight, but I do know that it depends on the app you use. On my Droid 2, the Motorola flashlight app (Droidlight LED flashlight) is nowhere close in brightness to the ICS Torch app.
I can't imagine that the LED's differ too much from phone to phone, so I would guess you would benefit more from finding the app that lets you max the LEDs.

My skyrocket has a pretty bright led, but my friend had an HTC that was much brighter. Can't remember the exact model.

Nokia 808 pureview, if you say the best flashlight of all smartphones.
For an android smartphone, some dual led flash phones are the best!

Not to sure on the brightest, but the coolest is the XBOX flashlight app on a WP. I get a lot of comments on my avatar holding the light for me.

I've compared my HTC One M8's flash to iPhone 6's, LG G3's, Galaxy S6 Edges, any flagship, and the One is always the brightest. It has the dual flash and the default HTC flashlight app has three increments of brightness so it pushes it out as much as possible. Lights up my room pretty good, and I have a pretty large room.

Sensation Camera Performance at low light.

I doubt sensation camera can beat Iphone 4. Im using htc desire. Its sucks when my gf beats me at her photos taken by her iphone everytime I brag her to join android. Even told me she does need to change any settings.
I know photos from Iphone is a bit un natural n not realistic (thats a win for my desire) but at low light, wow, iphone takes as if it was in a well lighted one.
How about sensation?
At almost pitch dark with LED flash on ofcourse.

With flash or no flash? Can take a picture in pitch black and with the dual LED flash you can't even tell there weren't lights on
Actually this phone takes the best low light pictures of any phone I've had except the iPhone. I'm really liking the camera overall.

It does alright. Don't try to take anything up close because it will completely wash out.
Ill second that, it may not be as good in low light, but it wont quite matter, because this phone has the best flash on it that ive used.
I have both an iPhone 4 and the Sensation and in low light or dark room the iPhone kills the Sensation in picture quality.

The Sensation takes pretty damn good low light photos. The iPhone is currently not the place holder for best low light photo's now. The SGSII takes the best low light photos out of any phone available. There so good that Miriam from Engadget who is a camera whore posted the low light pictures she took with her SGSII to her Twitter account and god damn they looked good.
If SGS2 is in deed can take equal or better than iphone4 in low light. I'll be damn happy. I will investigate myself.

definately one of the best android phones ive seen to rival ip4
SGS takes better low light (no flash) pics than the iP4. No doubt the SGSII will be even better.
Pictures are not so much the problem in low light for the Sensation (or any HTC phone), it's the video that sorely disappoints me.
The iPhone, Arc, Galaxy S2 and Nokia phones keeps a solid 25+ fps in low light where the Sensation just crumbles.

Sensation vs G2X Screen contrast?

hello, I switched from a G2X to a sensation. My sensation is made in China, AUO screen, dated 6/7. Now I see people saying Sharp screens have better contrast, better black. In comparison, my G2x definitely has better screen contrast and darker blue. in terms of Whites, whites are as white as the G2x in the sensation.
I want to ask you guys, what is your sensation's color contrast like comparing to a G2X? please also state your Screen (AUO or sharp)
I have a sharp screen, it's considerably better than my g2x

How do you tell what screen you have?
I have a Sharp screen and a G2X. The blacks are blacker on my G2X but I could give two ****s which display on my mobile device has better contrast. Now if you asked me if I cared about contrast on my 4 LED Samsungs than yes, I do care about contrast and dark blacks on my HD TV'S. I am failing to understand why people care so much about contrast on mobile devices. People should be caring more about text clarity and brightness in direct sunlight. In both of those categories, my Sensation blows the daylight out of my G2X. When reading or looking at icons on my G2X after looking at my Sensation for a while, the display on it looks fuzzy. Seriously, the Sensations display pros far outweigh the G2X pros.

Once again, ill have to disagree, simply because the g2x's maximum brightness is much better than the sensation. I put both devices at 40%, and the g2x blew it out the water...

It depends on what panel you have. Why would you only put them to 40% when using it in direct sunlight? I have held them next to each other in direct sunlight, both at 100% and the Sensation is much more clearer. I can take a picture or make a video if you don't want to believe me. Even in a picture, the difference is noticeable.

I have an AUO screen and it's fine. The blacks can be just a bit dull but I mean, the viewing angles really are amazing. If I look on from literally 179° I barely notice any color change.

well more contrast is more pleasant to the eyes. to each his own though, I would prefer the bigger screen of the sensation over G2x.

Interesting post.
I was doubting between getting a Sensation or a G2x, and finally bought a Sensation because of Sense and built quality. Well, I compared my old's HTC legend Amoled screen with Sensation's, and with the device in front of me, both are similar, but when the phones are for example in the car near to the radio (using them as GPS) and I have to look from a distance, legends screen is much better. Of course, I prefer Sensation's because of the size and the resolution, but legend's is easier to look from the distance (more color, light and angle vision)
I suposse G2x's is much better than legend's.
Just an opinion.

[Q] Big dilemma on which one to buy. Galaxy S3 or One X?

The time has come to sell the best phone ever (HTC HD2) and i will be selling it only because i am not happy with the camera photos and videos quality otherwise the phone is still awesome especially with miui android roms.
I read & watched all the reviews of both htc one x & galaxy s3 but i have a big dilemma and i hope you will help me decide which one to choose. What i like on htc one x is the awesome display that produces correct colours but i don't like the camera quality in videos and the noise in the photos. On galaxy s3 i like everything expect the display which is worrying me because of the pen tile problem with whites that look like blue or purple and the lower ppi density.
I don't care about benchmarks, battery life, user interface and all this things because i know that the custom roms will fix problems on both phones at some time.
My questions are:
1. If a buy htc one x is there a possibility in the future with a custom rom the camera match the quality of galaxy s3 both in video (higher bit rate and fps) and pictures (not so much noise)?
2. If i go for galaxy s3 will the developers manage to fix the display colours a bit or it's something that can't be fixed because of the pen tile technology?
Please don't answer me like an htc one x or a galaxy s3 fan i guess my questions are more related to the developers
buy the galaxy s3 . I am a proud owner of the phone . Its really very good . You will love it .
From what I heard, you can go into the Settings/Display/Screen Mode and change it around to help with the color problem on the amoled.
As far as the pentile/non pentile screen goes. When you get to dealing with such a high ppi (<300) it is physically impossible to see any pixels. Remember apples advertisement for the retina display. You literally have to have a microscope to tell the difference.
The amoled on the sgs3 will look better at angels and also consume less power. (Go to battery settings and see what takes up most your juice. so the screen taking less power is a huge bonus)
Also, touchwiz is more stable than sense. Not as flashy and good looking, but more reliable and faster.
im in the same dilemma
Galaxy S3

1.the fps rate on hox cannot be repaired with a software update ,as it goes down to the cpu. Ie hox will always have lower fps during video recording.
2.there is no problem in s3 regarding the display until you compare it with hox,and yes hox has better display by a slight difference.
And there is no problem in s3's screen its great , again if you dont keep s3 side by side to hox.
Im going for s3 ,get the one which matches your requirements.

I faced the same issue, what could possibly replace the hd2? I went for s3 due to removable battery and expandable storage. Screen is amazing, I've not had any of the pink screen tint, it's got really good viewing angles. I'm also on day 2 from a full charge!

I would go for Galaxy S 3. Has better battery life, amazing display, design-wise I also like it more than HTC One X...
im in the same dilemma 2, but:
i will go for S3. we can use USB OTG officially,we can use MicroSD and more storage
NO DOUBT!!!!
I had an HTC one X ... sold it to my brother and now I am at S3...
I didn't see ANY advantage of HTC one X (except for the Sense4) !!!
FOR S3:
- Better battery (almost 80% more using time after installation of stock rom)
- Better video recording
- Display quite the same
- Can change battery (for me it is essencial, change battery after 2 years or have an extra with me...)
- Option to put external micro SD
- Bigger display (almost the same)
- Display quality almost the same.
- Will be more easy to put jeally beam (Sense 4 will be a block for Jeally bean).
- More reponsive

There already exists a camera mod for one x which enhances it a lot and u can even take larger size images
If u want better screen, love sense and tegra gaming go for one x
There is very good developer support for one x, it even got working cm10 jellybean ROM before s3
If u love black colors and want official jellybean update early go for s3

I would go for S3, because I like Samsung in general (own a Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus) and from those reviews that I've seen the camera is much better on S3 as apposed to HTC One X. Also there the battery is replaceable on S3, which allows you to use extended batteries, when on HTC One X you can get battery cases. The last one is more of your own preference, but a lot of people get picky here and dislike the internal battery solution on HTC One X that requires you to take it to service if you ever need to replace battery.

S3 ...
There is no dilemma, go for Galaxy S3. A phone with proof of regrets.
Galaxy S3. The Dual core A15 in the S3 has about 20-40% single threaded performance improvement over the Tegra 3 (T30) in HTC one X.
Also the custom rom support for the Galaxy series of devices is also excellent. Not sure if it makes a difference for you or not, but I would consider that a solid plus for the S3.
The phone has excellent battery life, a great screen and very good performance. Not to mention it is very well supported.
BTW - I am assuming this is the US version of Galaxy S3. If you are talking about the international version, the performance would be about the same. But the rest of the advantages will still hold.

International. S3 is quad core a9 ,though the US varient has a dual core but it is not an A15 ,architecture is similar to A15 but a15 gives better performance.
International s3 has a better gpu so gaming should be better on international one

[Q] One X auto-focus assist lamp?

I previously owned the S3 for AT&T and now I have the One X. The S3 would turn on the LED light when focusing in low-lit environments. The One X does not do this by default so trying to take pictures that are in focus in low to no light is nearly impossible. Is there an app that can utilize this feature? Thanks.

Will DynamicNotifications (aka Active Notifications from MotoX) work on N5?

Can anyone confirm if DynamicNotifications (ActiveNotifications from MotoX) work on the Nexus 5?
not possible because moto x uses Amoled Screen. Battery will drain so fast on a LCD screen
Are you talking about the actual app on the play store or the exact same thing from the moto x?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
It will work but it is not recommended AT ALL.
As supersain80 said, the Nexus 5 features an LED IPS screen and not OLED. Because of that the entire screen lights up instead of just pixels that are colored so instead of only lighting up those white pixels as on the Moto X, the entire screen, even blacks lightup, so it would destroy your battery.
I'll admit i miss OLED, last phone i had with it was the galaxy nexus, but the LED IPS displays are a lot nicer in other ways you just don't get things like this.

Thanks for the response. That is one of the features from the MotoX I will dreadfully miss.
I am missing the feature a lot too. Are there any settings in the dynamtic notifications app that make it more suitable for the nexus 5?
Well you could reduce the screen on time on new notifications and reduce the brightness of the display for this particular app. I only reduced the screen on time.

I'm using the play store app and I don't notice excessive battery drain. There will of course be some, but it works fine.
