2.20 Root Status - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I'm just wondering as to the status of gaining root access on the AT&T 2.20 update. I just bought my HOX via a third party, and it came with 2.20, so right now I'm SOL.
I know ETA's don't typically exist, but will creating a bounty help move this along?

Bump
Hopefully someone finds an exploit because I want to install a custom rom so badly!
:crying:

There's nothing to report. My gut feeling is we will need to be granted sanctioned bootloader unlock to get root again.

sorry I'm not so good with rooting. Does that mean that we need htc to let us unlock our bootloader so we can install a rooted android os?

Yes or someone needs to find a new exploit for the new 2.20 to allow root.
Sent from my Nocturnalized Beast

Yes. At the very least we need unlocked bootloader in order to install a custom recovery so we can install root.

I found this just a moment ago. I have no clue if these would work though.

Lol that rom is from one of our devs it's his website the rom is in the dev section its a rooted version of the update without the hboot. It does no good to anyone who took the ota that was locked and had no root prior to doing so.

I'm afraid I'm not as versed in Android phones as I am with Apple. It seems that Android is a bit more complex. Well, I tried to help, hehe.

If you have a retail outlet around you (i.e. Best Buy, etc.), you can do what I did. Return the new phone and buy one from old shelf stock. If they received it before August then it's guaranteed to have firmware of 1.85 or older.

This is really bad!

any news or updates about being able to root 2.20? I have a HOX on 2.20 and i'm wondering if I should just sell it or wait

There is thread in the general section

About to purchase HOX from the ATT online store...

What are the chances that the bootloader will be unlockable?
I'm assuming that the HOX I get won't come with the latest OS updates?
Last thing I want is a HOX that can't be unlocked (bootloader).
Thanks guys!
I'd assume new devices from at&t will have the latest unrootable version of the firmware

Crap!
I don't want to be stuck with the bloated stock room.
Go buy it at a store. Open it up and check. V
Just got a One X from my local AT&T Store... 2.20 on all of them (or so I was told). I think it's a bit late to hope to get a 1.85 from the store, but best of luck. Now I just keep my fingers crossed for a root method for 2.20.
firlt athowith
So just to be clear: at the moment, a HOX that comes with 2.20 cannot be rooted to flash custom roms.
Am I right?

Well crap.
Now I can't decide what phone to get.
I love the HOX screen but on the other hand, I can root the GS3 instantly and flash an AOSKP rom and get rid of touchwiz.
Wonder how long it will take for 2.20 to be unlocked.
what to do....what to do.
I don't believe it is unrootable. I think we just haven't found a way to do it yet. I may be wrong and if I am then can someone elaborate?

Even if there is 0% chance to root 2.20, there may be exploits in newer versions.
I used to have an HTC aria, which shipped with hboot .57, but (I believe) s-off wasn't discovered until it's hboot was updated to 1.02
Moral of my story: There is almost always a way to get around security measures
But how long will it take? Who knows. I'm sure someone will make a breakthrough eventually
Dude, just get the s3. Going from a rooted phone to a locked down phone sucks balls. I can't wait to see what next year brings for phones, as I can upgrade in July. That being said, the one x is an awesome phone, even without root. Stock 2.20 is more stable than any rooted ROM I have ever run I don't have many complaints other than being locked down at all. I know I contradict my self, but it basically comes down to only one thing. You want root, get a different phone. But you will be missing out on a good phone IMO.

If i get a One X today can i Root it?

I've read that the At&t one x can't be rooted. Is this true?? If it is then im gonna go with the S3.
Depends on the software.

I'd say there is a 40% ull get on on 2.20 i got mine about a week and half ago it came with 1.73 so it's all draw of the hat I'd still get this phone anyways it's a good phone even on stock
I got onef rom work and it has 2.20....so I guess no root or custom ROMS until someone figures it out.
But someone will definitely figure it out yeah ?

Or if AT&T ever lets the bootloader get unlocked.
Are there many devices that remain un*rootable for the duration of their usable life?
Thanks all.
Went to swappa and found a mint white HOX running 1.85 and bootloader unlocked with TWCP. Now at least I know I'll get a good usable phone

Rooting OTA 4.1?

Quick question for you guys. My HOX is currently running 4.0.4. I have yet to root it. I received notification that the JB update is available on my phone today. If I was to go ahead and update what are the chances I'll be able to root in the future? Would you recommend rooting now, unlocking the bootloader, and flashing this beastie now with another rom?
Thanks for the advice.
To be safe I would root and achieve s off before doing the ota.
I am not 100% certain that the current exploits to achieve root will work once you take the plunge and do the ota.

Absolutely.
Yes, definitely root and S-off first. I was shaking my head in disbelief where a couple of people in the x-factor exploit thread were lamenting the fact that they cannot now root after taking the OTA. What?? You had all this time to root while AT&T was taking its sweet time releasing JB, but instead you wait, take the OTA, and now you decide you'd like to root?

Bam! The beastly One X has been rooted and I've installed the latest Vipor XL Rom. So.... would you folks recommend I go ahead and S-Off? Is this truly necessary?
Thanks again
Makes life easier not having to flash boot.img, you can run older ruus, and you wont brick if you take the ota.

Yes. It will make your life much easier in the long run.
One example: Folks who were SuperCID and s-on, who took the recent JB ota, are now bricked because of the CID check. S-off turns all security checks off.

[Q] Roll back at&t evita one x from the JB OTA

AT&T Evita One X
I did the JB OTA update to 3.18 and am curious how (if possible) to rollback to 2.20?
I have searched XDA for similar threads, but no luck. If I have started a new thread of something previously discussed, please point me in the right direction.

If you were s-off or at least unlocked beforehand, yes. If you were never rooted, no, unless you can get the X-factor exploit to work for you.

Neither one. Had to do an exchange of my old hox due to an issue that arose after root.
X-Factor??
Is that a root method?
Used a couple of Hansoon's last time to achieve root.
Haven't found a "one click" method for the AT&T Evita yet.

Yeah, I kinda found that out the last time I rooted my hox. Used a couple different Hansoon all in one toolkit to achieve root last time. Unfortunately, no way to get s-off as of now. (unless something JUST happened)

Folks; please check the boards. This is covered in other threads. Jcase reported that he hopes to have Sunshine 3.0 out in January. Until then, unless someone else figures out an exploit for 4.4.4, or Big Red decides to permit bootloader unlock, you'll have to run stock for a bit longer.
