I bought two Charges last week, one for me and one for the wife. Both of us have been having similar issues with music and/or ringtones randomly not playing on our phones. My wife has missed several calls because the ringtone that she downloaded from Zedge mysteriously stopped working, so the phone acted as if it were on silent mode. I noticed several instances where I can't listen to music on my phone due to a "Error playing the requested track" error within the Google Music app. At first, I thought my problem was due to the fact that I was trying to stream music that I've uploaded, but I was given the same error when I attempted to listen to music stored directly on the SD card.
Thinking that my problem was due to some weird issue with the Google Music app, I tried to play the music on my SD card from the built-in Music Player app and I was quickly prompted with an unsupported file type error. Rebooting both our phones seems to fix the problem, but I've had to do this at least two to three times on my phone, and once on my wife's. It seems that the problem always comes creeping back without warning.
Neither of our phones are rooted, and nothing else has been done to the phone that I can think of that would cause this issue.
In short, music/ringtones/etc. will randomly stop playing regardless of their source (SD card, downloaded, stream). Since the problem is on both of our phones, I'm guessing that this is a common issue on all Droid Charges.
Has anybody else experienced this issue? What are your recommendations on fixing it? Should I just take the phones back to Best Buy and get replacements?
=Edit=
Okay...something is definitely up. I just went to watch a video on the YouTube app, and saw no video. I tried other videos and got the same result. Sure enough, I tried to listen to some music and was given the above mentioned error. What the hell?
I would take them back to Best Buy. Ive never heard of this problem. And if youtube is not playing then there seems to be and underlying problem.
I was having this same problem every so often, typically after having the phone on for a few days without turning it off. I am rooted an running a custom ROM so I thought it might have something to do with that, but obviously that is not the case. I turn my phone off whenever I charge it at night and have not had the problem since doing that. Long story short, I would return the phone if you can, but just turning the phone off and then back on (not rebooting) has fixed the problem for me every time.
Try uninstalling the official twitter app if you have it, reboot, and try again. That usually solves that.

Battery life is good on my phone but I've noticed that something called "media server" app is eating much more battery than the screen.
Is this normal ?
I had the same problem. you can restart your phone to see if it stops the drain. also check for corrupted media files. for me it was snapchat that was causing the problem. every time would open it up. media server would start again. hopefully that was the only cause for me.

Snapchat MediaServer Issue
I am having the same problem, snapchat causes media server to consume battery, any fix available? (other than uninstallin
The problem in detail
Once a snapchat is received media server starts to "keep awake". This is stopped by deleting the snapchat cache and restarting the phone (until a new snap is recieved ). The snap chat cache folder is in the android directory and therefore subject to a .nomedia file, furthermore even adding a nomedia file to the cache folder does not correct the issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
I don't have snapchat installed but I've tried uninstalling viber and doggcatcher ,,, Will give the phone a few hours use to try and rule out these apps . Is it possible it could be Google search app?

I have the same problem..i didn't install any other new app on my moto g. No battery drain but i can't explain why is happening to consume more than the display does. It started from yesterday morning, i restart the phone but nothing changed. Sorry for my english

Can you try to uninstall the latest updates to "Google search" , there's a new function there that's constantly listening for speech command.
It's either that or viber in my case.

I just lost patience and did a reset on my Moto G. Now I will install the applications gradually and take care of the problem if the media server does not return.
I have the same problem. I have just cleaned the data of Media Storage app, hope it works.
I'll try next time. Thanks.

qcamera2factory might be the culprit
Hi guys,
as mentioned in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2545970
a program called qcamera2factory might be causing this. It shows up as media server in the battery settings (maybe because it calls the media server all the time). This would also explain why snapchat is causing the battery drain, as it is a camera app.
Using Better Battery Stats, it shows that qcamera2factory is clearly keeping my phone from going to deep sleep.
Ideas, anyone?

This happened to me too at least two times.. in both cases I was using the camera before.
I just tried uninstalling different camera/video apps, and Skype was the one causing it. Fixed after a reboot, phone is going to deep sleep again!

Today the problem happened again and I had to just wipe the data from the Media Storage app. To find you need to go to settings, applications, and slide to the All tab.
I had the same problem from time to time. I freezed Moto Cam and Gallery, used Snap Camera instead, until now no more wakelocks. But I don't know if this is really the cause, will see.
Have this problem also. So annoying and frustrating. How are ordinary users supposed to deal with this is? Or even diagnosis it as it seems to be caused by any app vaguely related to the camera. Come on Motorola! How do we report this to them?
Inform Motorola
I have told motorola via their live chat about the problem and I was told the customer service representative will be informing the engineers. But to speed up the process it would help if more people reported the problem to Motorola.

CameraAwesome somtimes will dump corrupted jpg's into its data folder on our internal storage. When there is corrupted jpgs, the media server service enters into a loop, trying constantly to read them. This can be a very heavy drain on the battery. Find those jpgs and delete them.
Hello guys. I've been having this issue since I've first bought my Nexus 5, thought I could finally solve it if I shared it with you.
Almost one year ago, I got my Nexus, and since I didn't like Play Music at all I downloaded Poweramp from the Play Store. I immediately noticed that some song in my library stuttered and skipped. I tried to set Audio Thread Priority and Audio Buffer higher in Poweramp, but that was useful. Then, using other audio players (I'm using Shuttle+ now) I realized the hiccups would show up at the same points in the same songs. When I tried to delete one of my troubled songs and to transfer it again on my device via USB, the skipping was gone. This makes me guess this is some kind of memory problem. Furthermore, I can't do the replace thing for all of my 4000+ songs; if I delete all of my songs and then I transfer all of them again, the hiccups show up again randomly in other songs.
During this time, I made the switch from stock 4.4.4 to CM11, and then back to stock 5.0 when it came out a month ago, but this issue has always been present. I recorded an example of an hiccup and I attached it here. You can clearly hear that at 3 and 19 seconds mark. Has this kind of issue affected someone else? Can it be solved at all?
Anyone?
Up
Sounds like you're having file transfer problems to me. Not sure how you can fix that. Maybe try a different method of getting music on your phone.
Just wandering if anyone is having issues with the most recent music/Walkman app from Sony. Was listening to music and all of a sudden it would stop and then realised why cause it said can not play song. So went through my songs and realised there was a few duplicates. Why I dont know went to my folder under ext sd card and there is no duplicate in it. Then I noticed on few songs it wasnt even playing the song listed.
Anyone else have the problem or just me.
Tried all usual stuff cleared data. Uninstall updates then updated it again. Same problem
I never had that issue. Is your music on the external SD? If that's the case try to chek your SD Card using a PC, run a scandisk on it. If they're on the internal memory, maybe your media scanner glitched out? There should be a few apps on the play store that will reset the media scanner database, even though most times just rebooting the phone would fix those issues.
