Is there a method to uninstall? I'm suddenly getting a "Sorry, didn't catch that" error. Immediately closes out once I open it.
Check on the link to the thread scroll down there's a return to stock Google search zip. I had to revert also because it wasn't working for me

You on stock rooted? I have not changed any of my files (other then framework.apk - to bypass verizon charging me to use the built in tether ). I flashed this and works great, from the google search on the main screen i just click on the mic and it brings it right up...
Voice Dialer is messed up
I originally posted this in the Apps forum; but it is probably more appropriate here:
I installed Google Now and the search works fine. However, when I initiate the voice dialer via my BT headset, I hear very fast, unintelligible gibberish. When I say "Call Bill Johnson" it returns totally inaccurate results and the voice is at 4X speed. S Voice, while somewhat inaccurate, worked 80-90% of the time via BT.
Does anyone else who has done this on their S3 have a working BT initiated voice dialer?
Are you having issues with having GN send text to contacts or sending "note to self"? I am having issue with both. I tried to do the work around using Calendar as a contact and then having GN send a sms to it so that it will post but most of the time it ends up doing a google search on "text calendar....ect". "note to self..." gives me a black screen and then an FC shortly after. I'm using the M6 zip file.

I sending a text message is hit or miss i guess, however i never got it to actually do it for me automatically. if i say "text mike hey whats up" it will pull up mike (sometimes/not consistently) and have my message "hey whats up" ready for sending but i have to actually go again and finalize the send. It's not like with S voice or Vlingo where it will send it for you if there is high confidence or if you tell it to send. I guess we'll just have to wait until proper version of Jellybean come out for our phones (GS3 VZW in my case). Till then we'll just have to deal with not so perfect Google Now.

Should be able to go into the applications and clear the cache for Google search/voice - so when you double click home it will ask which you want to use? not 100% sure, but usually that's how you reset options like that.

Should just be the Google search one, if you haven't already tried that one. also, check the original threat I posted i belive they have an "uninstall" option? that would be the only other option i can think of. I don't use voice dial. sorry.
So to install this, you just need to download the zip file and flash in recovery? I read through the other link and its seems confusing. I'm not sure if I need 6 or 7. And the warning stated if I don't know what one I need I shouldn't be attempting it. So I'm nervous.
Do the mikey7 version. To get offline and online dload the biggest file. On an s3 you should be Ok doing the big file. Just download put on root of your sd card and on recovery flash the zip file. I've been using it but I don't use the cards to save battery. I just use the voice search. It's much better than s voice or the voice search of ics. Check on howbibused home2shortcut to assign it to the home button by clicking my name to see my posts. You will enjoy it.

OK, so first I'd like to say I'm coming from an HTC Vivid. On said device I would long-press the search key to launch voice command to send a text, perform a web search, or get navigation directions. It was awesomely easy and convenient.
How do I perform the function now that I have a One X with no search button?
Thanks!
If you have the search widget on your homescreen you can just hit the mic icon.

That widget does not function the same. It asks me to speak again if I say something like, "Send txt to Ryan Suchandsuch" instead of displaying the pop-up text message window.

Seeing as how I mentioned it worked on my other phone, me mumbling wouldn't be the issue here (and most definitely is not). The voice command function refuses to do anything other than open the browser with a search phrase entered containing what I had spoken.

Have you done anything to your phone? Any mods? It is literally the exact same function as holding down the search key so it should work. I use it all the time and never have any issues whatsoever, including using it to send texts.
-I have rooted the stock ROM
-I have remapped the multitasking key to be a menu key
That's all.
Voice search is voice search
It brought up the text pop up for me when I tried it.
Is there any way to bring up that pop up while in an app? I think it'd be pretty useful.
That would mean multitasking.... so no.

Anyway, make sure that your voice search application is up to date. It seemed to fix it for me.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.voicesearch
Also, when the voice search application is actively receiving input, check the gear icon in the upper right. If you make your recognition personal (at the expense of privacy) recognition is much better.

Hey everyone.
First, I can't take credit for any of this. User mcmb03 is the one who found the thread and asked about it in the Q&A section. I went ahead and tested it out, and was able to get Google Now working on CleanROM 4.0SE, albeit not without its problems. (These problems are affecting all users, not just Sense users.)
Known issues
-Voice Search is broken
-"Show more cards" may cause a Force Close if there are no other cards to load. If you've done some searching, and Google Now has learned, for example, your favourite sports teams and there are actually more cards to load than what are on the initial page, it WILL load more cards.
- and possibly some other things we haven't noticed yet
To get it working, go here and follow the instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28226043&postcount=1
Then, in the same thread, jump to page 15 and follow the instructions in the second post down, #142 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28234189&postcount=142)
Happy Nowing!
EDIT: After testing for an hour or so, it seems like absolutely everything is working now except for Voice Search. Of course, there could be other problems we just haven't discovered yet.
so... most of it is broken? QUICK LETS ADD THIS TO EVERY ROM NOW!!!
Then complain about the broken stuff to the dev!

Turns out I was wrong about the automatic card displays. I was under the assumption that a traffic notification would pop up without any user interaction, but you've actually gotta pull up Google Now, and when you've got an upcoming meeting, the top card will show you your meeting info and a traffic report.

lol Red5, of all the mods of all the xda forums I've partaken in, you're by far the spunkiest.
And I wouldn't say most of it's broken. The Voice Search, which is obviously a huge part of it, is the most broken part. It doesn't work at all. The "Show More Cards" link at the bottom causes a crash. Maybe this is because I have no more cards waiting to be viewed, I'm not sure.
I do get automatic cards showing up with a traffic report when I've got an upcoming meeting. I also did a search for "Toronto Blue Jays," and above the web results, I got a Google Now card recapping the most recent game (the Royals kicked our a$$!) And now that I've searched for the Blue Jays a couple times, it'll be interesting to see if Now is really learning my preferred sports teams, and the cards automatically show up when there's a new ballgame.

Nope, that's different. That's the "more" tab for search results. I mean when you open Google Now (from the app drawer, not from the widget), scroll to the bottom of your cards, and click "Show More Cards."
And actually... now that I've been using Now for an hour or so, I clicked the "Show More Cards" and it works now! It shows additional cards that may be useful to me, such as transit routes, the upcoming Jays game (so it did learn one of my "favourite" sports teams.)
So, as far as I can tell, absolutely everything is working except Voice Search. It really is getting more awesome to use as it learns things about me.

I opened this thread because I did not find any relevant information about google now in the other threads.
I realized that Google Now in Nexus S does not have the same answers with cards, as in the Galaxy Nexus.
Do you know why? have you noticed other differences?
Make sure you have "Search on Google.com" enabled in Google now ->Settings -> Privacy and Accounts, since the Knowledge graph which powers it is more or less limited to Google.com at the moment.
My problem with Google Now is limited to voice search. Besides the ocassional slow start up, it seems the graphics/UI/animation have trouble keeping up with the audio (chime, audio input, audio output), which hurts when it activates a voice action but you can't see the card to check if it's right or not. Does everybody else get this?
I already have google.com enable but I was never able to get any card.
I tried several examples that work with GNexus
Did you get a card using voice search?
In my Nexus S I also noticed the slow start up.
Does anyone know if it's possible to make a home screen shortcut to google now? I use ADW EX for a launcher and it doesn't have the option yet in the Swipe Up setting to launch google now, but if there's a way to make a shortcut, you can set swipe up to launch an app or shortcut.
Also, I can't seem to setup the sports cards. I follow Formula 1 in the summer, but also NBA summer leagues, but I can't setup the sports cards to give me any information at all on these things.

No need, in Jelly Bean the Search button is permanently mapped to Google now system wide (you can't use it for app specific search anymore). If you still want a shortcut, just make a shortcut to the Google app. Google app = Google now.
So...egg on my face. Hit the "search" capacitive button and it went straight to google now. Embarrassed.

This maybe was discussed somewhere else, but I didn't see a thread on it so figured I'd start one.
I've installed Google Now on my rig running full stock (rooted) rom and it's running fine. I did get some network error messages at first, but I assumed it was a result of the permission requests it was tossing at me. Once I allowed the permissions, things seemed to work just fine.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749045
FYI - Just read that to get the full benefit of google now you must have web history and location history enabled. It'll work without it, but won't provide its full benefit without it.
That said, I guess I won't really be using it much. A choice y'all will have to make. Here's the link:

Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Voice did not work for me.
Double tap of home gave you the option to choose s voice or search. I defaulted to search and when I double clicked home nothing happened.
I kept getting network errors even though I have both location and search history enabled. I could get weather and Olympic results quickly but when I searched for say "galaxy S3 news" it would sit there loading. I reverted back to stock search.
How to revert: uninstall velvet. Rename the apk for Google quick search. No reboot required.
My phone is verizon stock rooted with noxious ninjas script.
Voice didn't work for me either. One note: don't "install" velvet.apk, push it to system/app instead.
Also, for some reason it kept telling me units in SI instead of US. I reverted because I like voice search. Didn't try disabling the S Voice stuff which I saw may help.

There are several things that don't work for me.
As previously mentioned, voice searching is broken.
On my xoom the Google now app displays card such as weather, traffic, and sports scores when I open it without doing any searches. This function does not work.
Also, I get notifications from Google now on the xoom. The app is integrated in the os. None of this works on the s3.
Pretty much all you will get is a replacement of the current search app that will display cards for some results using text input only. It is not worth it to switch right now. If you are curious about how Google now works, just search for demo videos.

it's now fully functional (including voice). there's another post floating around with instructions.
thanks for sharing this! everything works fine!
Can someone point me in the direction of the fully working version? I installed yesterday and there were a bunch of problems.
Here's the "fully" working version:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29756226&postcount=2856
I say "fully" because at least for me, nothing relating to the calendar works. Doesn't see my existing appointments, can't add new ones. Voice search works fine.
So I got it installed on my Verizon S3.
I don't see a Now app in my drawer but do get it when I press the home screen mic button and can voice search and all of that works well. Set an alarm etc.
I don't see any cards though and I don't have google now settings in the google search app to change from metric etc. I flashed M6 - Mikeyxda's version 6 online/offline. I didn't install anything else. Did I miss something?
Also double clicking the home button now brings up the voice dialer, how can that be changed?
Thanks in advance!

It does take a while of using before the cards start to show from what I've read and experienced

Cool, thanks. I am concerned that I don't get the settings to change from metric in the search app too.
I realize though I should be patient and wait for google to "award" me cards and then I might get the weather settings I am looking for.
Voice Dialer is messed up
I installed Google Now and the search works fine.
Where are my cards!

So I guess it's been 4 or 5 days since I flashed M6 - Mikeyxda's version 6 and I still don't have any cards. I have been using Now daily to search for weather updates and sports scores from my main teams and no cards every show up when I open the app from the blue google icon. I have never seen anything in the app actually say Google Now, I just get the red mic to ask the question.
Did I miss something or maybe have a bad install? Any suggestions to try?

Figured my problem out. It was because I have a google apps (for business) account. I had to enable at settled in my domain management to permit google now for my users (aka me).
I then cleared the Google Search Apps data and cashe and reopened it and got the welcome to Google Now setup screen.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1744793 is the thread I found that tipped me off to this once I thought about the fact I have an apps account and not a standard google account.

So do we just install the M7 apk or do we need to push it to system apps? Is that the only file we need to install? Any help appreciated. Want to try Clean Rom 2.5 but want to make sure I can get Google Now working first.

It depends on which recovery your using if it acts right with it...if you flash it and it dont show up then you have to manually install it which the instructions on how to do so is in that OP
Might be a questioned already answered. I just got my s3 a few days ago, but does google navigation work with google now. I installed the m7 online/offline version but it just sits there. Voice search, cards, everything else works but turn by turn navigation.:cyclops:
My mom's stock GS3 has had the Stocks card set to work for a while. Not too long ago the stocks card seemed to completely stop showing up. I checked all the settings in Google Now and it should be working, but the card never shows up. There's no longer even the option to have it show when there is a 1% change.
Does anyone know what has happened recently that caused this? Any help would be appreciated.
same here
I'm having the same problem tried everything from clearing app data to uninstalling updates and the app itself nothing brings it back hopefully this gets fixed soon I need to check my stocks !...

The same thing happened to me recently as well but today it is working fine. Here is what I did to fix, maybe it will work for you too:
1. Open a browser window and make sure that you're logged into your google account.
2. Search for "Quote AAPL" or whatever other stock you own. (LOL I'd never buy an iPhone but I'll attempt to profit off them)
3. The results window should contain a graphic section at the top with your stock quote with actual search results below.
4. Now go back to your Google Now app on the phone.
I am not certain this is what it takes to "fix" it, I just know that my stocks went away and now they are back after doing this. Good luck.

Thank you bro but unfortunately it didn't work for me hopefully Google finds a fix for this ...
I never set my stocks card up but I found them showing up anyway. I can only guess that my Gmail address must be associated with my stocks... (thru fidelity I guess)
just a guess, but did she make any changes to her email preferences in regards to the stocks?

Not sure. But it'll have to wait. She went on vacation for three weeks. I'll check back on it when she gets back. Thanks.

Hey it looks like they added a settings page for the stock quotes. Maybe this will fix it?
Open Google Now then go into the Settings -> My stuff -> Stocks and add the ticker symbols there.

Mine was already in there. I tried removing it and adding it before I even found this thread.
Just an FYI everyone, I fixed it. Despite the fact that I already added the stock I wanted, it was still turned off. Even though settings showed Google Now All Cards ON, I had to tap that and turn on stocks. Hth
For some reason, now the traffic card is not showing up at all.
had same issue but this is what helped me to get rid of it...
Just turn off the notification from settings in google now & turn it back on after some time & it'll show up,
How do you set the default stocks that show up first referring to the order.
