Just as it says,I pay for the hotspot, will I lose this service if I root?

The only thing you may loose is the need to pay for tethering! The FCC ruled that you are allowed to tether on Verizon for free.
But in essence, mobile hotspot works fine on stock rooted or the custom ROMs.
thanks to all for giving me advice..off to root

True enough. I find the free app FoxFi to make it VERY simple to tether with or without root!

I currently plan on buying the inspire tomorrow, before I make the jump I'd like to see if some of you guys could clear up a doubt. I'm currently on a captivate and with my custom rom I can tether and mobile hotspot without any extra plan. Will I be able to do this on the inspire? Thanks!
Yep. Simply by changing some settings. No root necessary. I tether it everyday to my iPad.

Are you talking about wireless tether as the tether hack? I don't have p3droid on my Twitter so I'm not sure I'm understanding what the hack actually is.

There isn't one. Why would we need one? We get free tether til may 15 if I remember correctly.
Seems like he's just spewing nonsense. Keeps talking about undoing some hotspot and uncapped data hacks that no one has any clue what hes talking about. He keeps saying he'll post more info but doesn't, then says he'll explain later but doesn't. I think what he's talking about is AndIRC's April fools fake data hack, just scroll through his twitter feed, it makes absolutely no sense.

He's talking about the patch that was released to fix the wireless tether issue with the current Gingerbread version. If you just installed wireless tether without the hack then as soon as you tried to start a hotpot it would direct you to verizons page telling you to sign up for their tether package. This patch made it so wireless tether would work as it always has. For some reason he is telling whoever applied the patch to undo it. It has nothing to do with being rooted or having a custom rom installed.

Aside from that, he keeps talking about some uncapped lte hack that no one has ever heard of, he says supposedly people were getting 40mbps, though no one has ever heard of this hack before, " If you uncapped your Bolt, GET YOUR ASS BACK TO STOCK, NOW!!!" He told some guy that if he goes over 150GB data this month Verizon will come after him lol.
Get your tin foil hat out.
Wait so if we just installed wireless tether(just for the hell of it) and used it, its fine? I'm not really understanding this either. I'm not getting crazy lte speeds either (I think)

Yeah I think he's just starting up drama. And the 40mbps is a glitch in the speedtest app.

Well, I would like to wifi tether my SGS4G but it's an extra $15/month. So I was wondering if I rooted my SGS4G, would wifi tethering be free?
yes just root stock and flash the tether fix thats floating around. you dont have to switch roms.

Yeah. Keep in mind that it will void your warranty though.
As long as T-Mobile doesn't detect it, you won't have to pay for it. A customer service rep actually told me that when I asked about it. My sister was using the wireless tethering for months without paying for a plan.
Keep in mind that this was a couple of months ago though. They might have gotten more strict about that.
wifi tethering is included on any android phone 2.2 or higher at no additional cost. (the one thing that i am going to miss about tmobile :*(
Wait, my SGS4G has Froyo, but everyone says that it's extra cost.

If you can tether now without a plan, you're fine.
Just stop once T-Mobile says, "Hey, you've been tethering! You can't do that without a plan!!!" Tell them that the customer rep you went to said you could.
Like I said in my previous post, as long as they don't tell you that you need a plan, you can get away with free tethering. Just keep in mind this information is a few months old.
I believe you can tether with Tmobile, you'll just hit your bandwidth cap a lot sooner and your speed will be throttled down to 2G speeds after you hit your limit.

My understanding is that since the court decision they lost they will charge you to use the tethering app that comes on the phone, but you can get a 3rd party tethering app from the Play Store and be okay. Someone here could clarify.

It all depends on the plan that you're on...the FCC ruling did not apply to unlimited plans so you do still have to pay Verizon the fee for that...they did have to allow tethering apps to be available on the market though as part of the ruling
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
The court ruling only applies to those on a Share Everything plan. Those of us on grandfathered plans are not suppose to tether without the plan add-on.

For the most part as long as your not completely abusing it you should be fine overall. I have heard several reports of people with unlimited data using Foxifi just fine. However I will warn that there is always a possibility of Verizon finding out in which case, I'm afraid your own your own.
All Share Everything plans include hotspot/tethering.

Is there any way we can remove data throttle in our phones or is there a Rom that has it removed already I'm just tired of getting throttle, I guess that's what I get for being cheap please help!!!!!!!!
I think that only T-Mobile can set and remove throttles. Do some googling, you might find more information that way.

Removing throttle is not possible. As said above only T-mobile can remove them because throttling is a server side thing. It used to be possible before because throttling happened on the user side and not on the server.

I'm still on the 30 dollar plan, and when I get a new phone its going to be at Verizon. Since the prices are pretty much the same, and my dad will pay it instead of me. So its a win win for me
