::Bootanimations:: - Asus Transformer TF700

Some stuff I've seen that I thought would look cool as a bootanimation.
Just rename to "bootanimation.zip" replace original bootanimation in /system/media and set permissions to rw-r-r
thank urrlyx for some of the resizing

I have already started a boot animations thread some time ago (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1776039) ...
What i would like to achieve, and was not able to so far, is to get some boot animations that would actually fill entire screen.
All the animations you posted here are nice, but as they are small it looks ugly on infinity.
I am currently using nexus X animations because it is all black with a nice animated X in the center and you can't notice the difference between boot animation images and background that has no image.
I would LOVE to have android in space animation - but only if it is full screen - otherwise it looks just lame.
So, we are still searching for a way to do this. There is many awesome animations out there in the wild, but if they are not "full-screen" it all just looks lameish. At least to me.

You should pull the stock bootanimation and post it for me, so I can check it out and try to fix these.
I have a tf101 and don't have one of these devices. Just trying to share what I had posted over there. They work fine on mine so I figured they would work here but I guess not.

The stock one is actually small with the same trick I did. Black background. So this doesn't help us much.
I can't figure out what is the largest possible size of boot animation.
I have tried 1920 but it didn't show at all

Didn't spend much time fiddling around, will try it again with different sizes and options, but to answer your Q: both at the same try (once)

I guess you have to be rooted, right?

I will do the others and some more I have. :0

Okay, I've tried this several times: I'm rooted, I've got a new animation I created using Gif2Boot , copied it to system/media, set permissions rw-r-r, but it doesn't show up. I'm using 1024x600 resolution. Any ideas? I've attached the animation file I created.

Hey,
unfortunately it doesn't work.
There is just a very brief/quick white flash and than it goes all black.
I am pretty sure a full HD resolution won't work.
What if we slowly progress from here and scale it down?
Let's say, next try could be 1200 or something...
Size in desc of original boot animation is 432 540

Hm, whatever resolution i set in the desc.txt doesn't really help.
Do I have to also change the actual resolution of the images, or should desc.txt be enough?
I have to first figure out why it doesn't work...or, how to correctly set the bootanim...
---------- Post added at 09:02 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:48 AM ----------
The nexus X animation that I use by default has 640x640 resolution in desc.txt.
So this is a current maximum for which i know for sure it works.

It works for me. Look in your /system/media folder for something that looks like bootanimation_config_xx.txt. On mine, that file points to the location of the boot animation file, which in my case is named bootanimation_04.zip. I'm thinking you just need to rename the file.

All you actually have to do is rename the file inside bootanimation_04.txt
It can be whatever you want, it doesn't have to bootanimation.zip.

Ah, that fixed it! Many thanks! :good: I now have Surprised Kitty as my boot animation. Not particularly original, but funny nonetheless.

Just a little hint from my side.
Better place the bootanimation into
/data/local
This way it will stay when you're updating your ROM as long as you don't perform a factory reset.

Anyone know of a way to reduce the brightness during boot? Can't understand why they set it to full brightness during boot - just shows the light bleed and uses extra battery!

[Boot Animations](updated 10-19) Compilation of boredom...

First I did not create any of the artwork in these boot animations. I mixed the sound for some, and for others I mixed and matched images found throughout the internet (especially the portal animation). To give credit where credit is due, I used a lot of JaiRomeo's stuff so check him out at JaiThemes
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED TO YOUR PHONE!! Although, I don't know how you would mess up your phone with a boot animation.
Each file is either the bootanimation.zip or a .rar file that contains the bootanimation.zip and PowerOn.ogg files you need to put in /system/media and /system/media/audio/poweron respectively. Edit: Apparently with CM7 you have to do some magic to get the sound to work on boot animations, supposedly there is a kernel available that allows for sound. I have not tried this method out yet, so post your results if you try it out.
The speed shown on the images here is a little different from the boot animation. Last random thought, when your phone is starting up the user preferences for sound takes over after so long, makes it sound weird sometimes so I've tried to keep the sounds short.
To install simply
Code:
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local/
or
adb remount
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media/
adb remount
and to test the animation without rebooting
Code:
adb shell
bootanimation
CTRL + C to end animation

This is a mix of the nexus animation and the Galaxy Nexus commercial. It is a HUGE (22Mb) zip, but I've tested it running CM7 and it works. Just makes the boot a little longer sometimes since it plays the entire cycle. Then it'll loop the nexus animation until boot. (No sound)

thanks for the credit. I believe the commercial is by SK Telecom.
HaLo2FrEeEk made a blue and a green matrix as well; if anyone wants me to blend them like the red one, let me know. I'm not going to bother with them otherwise. Also the red matrix file has a .mp3 file so you can preview and decide if you want to use that sound or not.

No, you have to edit the images in the PowerOff.apk in /system/app I haven't played with those yet so I have no clue how difficult it is.
Funny note on that though, that .apk also contains Verizon images as well as LG images.
Curious, I just updated back to CM7 nighties. Where the hell do I put the PowerOn.ogg file now? I've tried recreating a directory called poweron in the system/media folder and the data/local folder. Anyone know?

I recently find out how to make almost any font work on ics (credit to thugesquire)
I have already made quite a few flashable fonts so far and am willing to take requests, all I need is the .ttf file(s) and I can make it into a flashable zip
best results are with fonts that have multiple .tff files (bold, italic, and/or light) but they are not required.
Please either post the ttf files here or pm and I'll get right on it

ASCII works on windows doesn't it? many windows fonts are ttf files (most of the fonts I've ported so far are actually intended to be installed on windows)
And I believe iOS uses Helvetica font which is actually in ROM manager as an ics font package, it's just a question of whether that one has the required letters for it

Just thought I'd post a font, as I've looked all over and haven't seen it on XDA.

Boot animations

Hey,
after some investigating after I couldn't change my bootanimation, I saw there is a config text file which has a definition which file to actualy load.
Changed that - works super cool
But, there is also a VIdeo folder inside /system/media which has a beautiful android in space video.
Why is that video there by default? Is it possible to change the config file to just point to the video file or does it have to be a bootanimation.zip?
I don't want just go and try it, cause I am afraid I will get stuck on bootanimation or something.
Thanks for any info!
Nyandroid?
Also if I am not mistaken... you have to have the bootanimation.zip file, as it contains the animation in png image format.
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-change-customize-create-android-boot-animation-guide/
If you have Photoshop I am sure you could easily convert the video into still images and make your own bootanimation.zip.
Does anyone know what is the biggest size that boot animation can be?
Or to ask differently: how to make a bootanimation for infinity to cover the entire screen?
I have tried many for the last couple of hours, but they all look weird if they are "fullscreen" as the size of the animation becomes smaller on infinity. Only those who are centered and have black background looks somehow OK.
I would like to resize the fullscreen ones so they would cover the entire screen.
Possbile?
Can you change the boot animation without rooting the device?
If so, could someone please give some detailed instructions on how to do it? A link to a video of it would be nice too if there's one out there.

If I'm not mistaken the video with android in space is their "Easter egg"
Try this: go to about tablet and click multiple times very fast on the android version.
It should pop up a little android guy
Next tap and hold on him till he grows huge then be prepared to have your mind blown

You can't change boot animation without root. Bootanimation zip file is in folder system/media and is only readable without root.
At least I don't know of any solution that works without root, but could be mistaken....
Has anyone figured out what size should bootanimation be to fill the whole screen?

Very Cool!
I cropped the images and then doubled the size of the default animation. I'm on eoh's rom and the file was named bootanimation_04.zip. Not sure if that is stock or if he modified it, but it's easy enough to just rename it or change the config file if yours is different.
Infinity stock animation large
edit: actually I think I can keep the same original size cropped and then change the resolution in the desc file so that the zip isn't quite so large. will do that and re-upload if it works.
edit2: while just changing the resolution specified in the desc.txt file did increase the size of the animation, it also created a box of flashing pixels around it 1 or 2 pixels wide. I played with a few different resolutions but specifying anything other than that of the images caused the pixel artifacts on the screen. I re-uploaded the double-size animation if anyone wants it and will be putting up a couple more that I downloaded through roomtoolbox in a bit.
Rotated and compressed a bit from the original:
Bokehloop
Cropped the blue 3d honeycomb animation, scaled that up, and changed contrast to make the background black. It's 960x700 and looks pretty good on our screen.

Can you tell me what folder the original boot animation is in and what file to modify to change it please?

Hey,
after some investigating after I couldn't change my bootanimation, I saw there is a config text file which has a definition which file to actualy load.

What did you change config text file to? I can't get my animation changed. Tried data/local, and system/media. Neither worked

I have tried editing that file and it gave me a bootloop
If I change the animation in the stockrom it doesnt boot anymore but with cm10 an cleanrom it works (with romtoolbox)
The config file sets the path and name of the bootanimation I think but editing doesnt work

You have to be careful when editing the pointer file. There cannot be any extra lines or spaces after the path text.
I've also had issues with some editors and just doing a save when you close out of the editor instead of saving beforehand. Not sure why there would be a difference in how it performs the save, but I was able to repeat the issue so I'm pretty sure it wasn't a fluke.
Also, most of the time, if the system can't play or can't find the animation it will still boot up just fine. It will look like its just sitting at the ASUS splash screen until it displays the launcher, so if you didn't wait long enough you may have thought it wasn't booting.

What do I changed pointer file to? The "boot animation changer " app works, but only on the ones in the app. I have some I want to use, but can't get to load. After splash screen, it just says generic "Android "
Bootanimation
Hi all I created my own boot animation and I had to change the in the desc.txt file here is what I used to get the image to use the whole screen.
1922 1202 30
It works for my TF700t so It should work for you as well.
I would like to know if anyone has figured out how to get the sound for boot animations working for this device.
Thanks to all.
Im use Boot Animations from Market, it's work
Just select "Local" point to the bootanimation.zip on your sd card

My bootanimation isn't working

Hey guys..
i [tried] created my own boot animation.... actually i just edited one.. I edit/theme my roms/apps, so i didnt think editing a boot animation would be any different with good ol GIMP lol... But i guess there is...
I got a huge graphical glitch with the boot animation when i tried booting up my rom..
Could anyone take a look and maybe just create what i "tried" to do, or tell me what i did wrong.. lol.. I think this animation would be dope.. Im a big minimal guy, so i think this would play nicely with my taste..
When you edited the animation, did you set the compression level to 'store' instead of normal? Otherwise it won't work properly.

I just "added to current compression".. Which I always do =/
What bit depth did you save the edited images as?

I didn't change it.. So whatever it was prior to me editing it, is what it is/was...
I edited the images, clicked on save on each one of them, drug it back into the zip, it asked me if I wanted to overwrite the old images, I clicked yes, added to current compression, and that was it.

It doesn't work like that. Not all applications will save the bit depth as the original. You should check the properties.

It's being compressed. This is your .zip in the OP:

This is an example of uncompressed ("store"):

24 used to be the maximum you could use but think 32 now
But looks like it is all solved now.

It seems like Your pngs are all indexed [ "colore indicizzato" = Indexed colors in screenshots (sorry, I'm italian )], this might be a reason
In gimp, change the mode of your pngs from indexed colors to rgb mode
Image --> Mode --> RGB
