do i need to return to stock unrooted to try update via kies or the update via kies if the tablet is rooted and in 4.0.3 happen and only i will lose root ? and will the update via kies if found will appear in it or i will have to return to stock unrooted for it to appear ? in other words do rooting affect update via kies to 4.0.4 in any way or i can update via kies safely and all that happens to me is to lose root ? i do not need ota update i only need kies update
I too am trying to upgrade my Tab 2 7" and my Tab 10.1 to ICS 4.0.4. Both tablets are rooted so I need to either un-root back to stock recovery or flash the new upgrade OS directly. Anyone able to help?
Unable to update with Recovery installed
I have CWM 5.5.0.4 recovery installed and I can't install updates.
Any solutions?
You can grab the new update in the respective tablet development forum and flash it through Odin. The Tab 2 7 has one I just saw that's stock/rooted, most likely the 10.1 has one, too. I had to go back to stock recovery to update. through Kies.

The only Tab2 7 and Tab 10.1 ROMs I can find are those by ROMWELL which are not truly stock and don't use stock recovery. If you have found something else I have not been able to find in my searching I would appreciate a link. Thanks.

Agreed, I would love a truly stock version of the LG5 or the new one that just came out.
This way when JB does come, I can simply flash this bad boy with Odin to stock and upgrade it to JB

I mean I figure I download all the parts, extract it, and flash the firmware part with Odin (correct? I am still getting used to all the software I use and how to use it, so excuse the stupidity )
What do I do with the kernel? Do I need the kernel file? If I am currently stock rooted on LG5, did the kernel change? For that matter when we get JB, if the kernel changes, what do I do?
Isn't the kernel the core to the device, if that is the wrong one, doesn't it brick in some way? Or am I over simplifying things? Or 100% wrong all together (sorry again for being a moron still learning all this stuff).

Yes, You could extract the archive and flash the (.md5) File via ODIN or Mobile ODIN Pro! (Which i prefer)
The STOCK kernel is included just in case you have a modded kernel, And want the STOCK kernel back!
Not sure about one, But i imagine if you where to flash the wrong file or even the wrong way you would get unwanted error's and possibly SOFT brick it or HARD brick it....
Ok good so I am learning something by being here!

Good to know I am well on my way to being smarter than the avg noob! Now that brings me to my next question, you mentioned Mobile Odin, I thought I read somewhere that if you use it, it doesn't increase the flash counter, first off, how the hell does it work? How do you make a device rewrite itself? How does it not trip the counter for that matter?
Good to know I don't need the kernel, since I was sitting here really confused on why you had included that. I haven't changed my kernel, and I never will touch that (unless a ROM like CM does that since I am thinking about flashing that if JB doesn't get here soon lol). So I just need the firmware part, and all will be good with Odin.
Since I backed up my device after rooting it, I have a rooted stock back up so thank you for giving us a clean stock as back up Do firmware upgrades ever leak from Sammy like on some of the others? Like Moto for example, they had ICS leaking left and right (thats what happens when you dont freeze them! ). Just curious what the odds were of that happening.
PS sorry to the OP for kind of hijacking this, I hope I am helping you at least with my question asking!

I didn't need the details of it lol I don't expect everyone here to know everything about everything, just an overview, since to me it doesn't make sense. I am curious if I should be using that instead of PC odin as well, which is why I was hoping to get more information about how the 2 differ since from the description in the store, there is no difference lol and thats just not possible.
So things do leak? Since Moto had build leaks weeks in advance of the ICS release for the Razr for example (I have a Razr, hate the battery life as a side though, get a Maxx if anything). So I was wondering do they do Soak Tests on tablets with Sammy? How do you apply for one? How often is there a leak of a new build? Since if JB is coming soon, there should be leaks coming out for it shouldn't there?

Their is difference!, ODIN (PC Version) Requires you to install it (And some drives....I think) On your PC and run it and connect your device via USB to your PC and flash it....Mobile ODIN is an app (.apk) You install on your device and flash it directly from the app! LEAKS just come when the come!

Since I had read that about the flash counter, Modin is easier than the PC wersion? Hmmmm.... but you can't use it unless your rooted, so how would that work? Don't you have to trip the counter to be able to use it? Or did I trip it because I didn't know any better?
BTW we are horribly off topic on the thread, if you want to msg me, please do, I don't wanna turn this into a different thread than what it was. Even though I have already lol

Hello all!
Seems a basic question and I did a search around, but didn't find a exact answer.
I have a Samsung Exhibit II 4G/T679 which came with carrier's ROM. So lots of undesired applications and some blocks (tethering, for example).
Instead of going to a modified ROM (which can be an alternative, of course), I'm wondering if there is available anywhere the official ROM release by Samsung for this model. Since there is the unlocked model from Samsung, I assume there is a official ROM from them (carrier independent).
Does anybody know where to download this official ROM?
Thanks!
If I am not mistaken, no. But we have some great Roms for this phone check them out. Trust me you don't want stock.

Thanks for your answer!
I wanted the stock mainly because some applications that I use explicitly say they don't run on "rooted or moded roms". So installing one of those customs roms would prevent me from using those applications. Maybe installing the stock one released by Samsung (on unlocked phones) the application would accept that.
Any idea or suggestion?
Seems obvious, but link was not so easy to find...
Here is the stock ROM for this model (attention: not carrier shipped, but manufactured shipped, rooted):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Exhibit_II_4G#Flash_Back_to_Stock
In my case it's still not the right solution since I have a carrier-shipped ROM and I would need to have this ROM back if they need to provide any service.

What applications are you trying to keep on stock ROM that you're convinced won't work on a custom ROM

Because my phone has the carrier-custom ROM, not the clean manufacture one.
So if I have to send the phone back to carrier, they will notice the ROM was changed. This one I couldn't find...
I'm thinking about using CWM Recovery to backup the ROM. But... then the CWM will replace original Recovery System, so it's a signal that ROM was changed too...

It's my office app. Somehow they have explicit lock on custom or rooted phones (maybe for security). I already tried to install on another moded phone and it doesn't work. Only with factory or recognized ROMS.
I don't know how they identify that... but it happens!
I have an ODIN Stock ROM for the SE2, when thats flashed it takes away root and completly restores the phone to out of the box state.
want it?
The carrier is Tmobile.

No I didnt.
Iv had it in my downloads folder foreverr and I use it alot for when I soft brick and need to use a jig.
Since the jig puts my phone into download/ODIN mode, Iv always saved that folder cause it is ODIN friendly.
Why don't you just flash to what ever you wont and not worry about it and then if you were to have to ship it back to to t-mobile just use the directions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Exhibit_II_4G and flash back to stock. Because I am sure that is what he is uploading.

I haven't had a G2X in a while, pretty much since the last baseband update was out, I have a couple of questions:
-Is the new baseband OTA? or do I have to download the kdz file and go that route?
-I don't remember how to root this device, can i go for the new baseband and THEN root? Also is the new baseband fixed to be able to work with ICS and JB roms without any fixes?
Thanks.

Nah, you have to use LG's software update tool. You need to be running stock in order to do so. I'd hook you up with a link but unfortunately I'm a new kid on the block. Just do a search and you'll find it with ease.

You can indeed upgrade to the new baseband and then root. Some ROMs will be baked to be able to handle it while others will require you to just flash Owain's fix.
Hope this helped.

The one I'm getting today is a used g2x, but its not rooted, so obviously stock. It probably is updated already, but who knows.
Samsung has just made the announcements, and among the listed devices is the 7 Plus.
This time around they have promised a faster deployment than with ICS, saying it's coming to all these devices "within the next weeks".

probably, i hope by late january or early febuary we could get at least one jellybean build for p6200. the blobs might help a little for cm10(or 10.1 by that time), but i don't know how much it will help, perhaps the video playing problem could be solved, and maybe a smoother "buttery" jellybean.

Hey XDA, I am not entirely new to this but not close to knowledgeable. Anyways, my simple question is, do I need to have 4.1.2 installed in order to flash the newest ROMs. I have 4.1.1 rooted but am afraid to flash any of these ROMs as they all say they are designed for 4.1.2. I avoided posting a thread but it seems I cannot find the answer ANYWHERE.
Well.. thanks in advanced!
The 4.1.2 ROMs are built from the update, so they'll already have whatever is in it. You don't have to flash it separately. However, you may want to flash the 4.1.2 modem and rpm (may not be in the rom), which can be found in post 2 of the CleanROM 6 thread in Android Development.

Sorry for my newbie self but are you suggesting I go ahead and flash whatever ROM I want ? I really just don't want to increase the risk of bricking my device. Again, my device is 4.1.1 and do not plan to update the firmware to 4.1.2. To be more specific, I am looking to flash SynergyROM VZW S3. All I need is the green light. Thanks again!

There's always a chance for a brick. I have never bricked one of the three phones I have rooted. Just make sure you are flashing a rom made for the Verizon gs3, your bootloader is unlocked and you have backed up your imei. Those three things will greatly reduce your chances of a hard brick.

Make sure you wipe your phone before flashing rims and such. It is NOT okay to just flash without wiping, and always backup your apps first with titanium backup. Just thought I'd let you know since you wanted to flash away for your first time.

Hi everyone,
My verizon galaxy s3 right now has a baseband of I535VRLHE.
First I was wondering which baseband is most recent, I have heard of MB1, MF1, etc. I know where to get these software updates but I have not found out how to actually update the baseband. Right now, I am jumping between many roms but as of this moment I am on an unofficial cm 10.1 build. They suggest getting on MF1 modem, but I really have no idea how do it.
Thanks for the help,
PS: I looked for quite a while so please don't tell me to keep looking or something like that.

Flash in recovery, baseband updates are always in alphabetical order, most recent is mf1.

Do I need to wipe anything for flashing it? Also, its ok to flash baseband updates with a custom rom installed?
And these will make my radios stronger, and thus my signal stronger?\
Thanks

no
yes
theres really no answer to pt3
What modem do you guys suggest flashing to. Right now I am on I535VRLHE and by my understanding that is extremely outdated. So just to make sure again no wiping anything, no formatting, no anything? And I should be flashing an update in either twrp or cwm? I know these questions sound stupid when I said I flash roms daily, but I really do not want to risk bricking my beloved s3 hahaha.
Thanks for taking your time to help me.
from what i understand the modem that works best for you will depend mostly on location. they might get better as they update, but i get teh same signal on the latest as I did on a modem from a few updates ago.
you can download the all in one packages here

reboot into recovery, then flash, reboot back to the ROM. if youre worried, make a backup. things can always go wrong i guess.
Ok thank you again, another question haha sorry. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788313&page=6 In this thread, the first few pages say to flash via odin and what not none of them confirm being able to flash through recovery. Have you ever flashed a radio through recovery?
Also what advantages does an AIO have compared to just the modem.

You need to do a Google search for "i9300 xda" because we can not help you in the SCH-I535 forums.
