From source :
We are unsure just yet if this is a UK-only release or if everyone is able to grab this but EA has released D.A.R.K for the Xperia Play. It's a little tricky to find but we have where to get it if it is indeed available for everyone. Either way, it is a great looking shooter/RPG game.
D.A.R.K is a top-down shooter/RPG with a space theme wrapped in some great 3D graphics. Your job is to search through a ship that has lost communications which was on an important mission to save mankind. While there isn't a whole lot of information regarding this game, your character happens to be decked out like a Space Marine from Warhammer 40k. It is a lot like Gun Bros but without the Bro part and deeper storyline. Don't forget this was one of the games that was announced right before E3 as coming to the Xperia Play but with no other information available.
Features:
Huge Sci-Fi RPG
Mind-blowing 3D graphics
An enormous ship to explore
Tons of upgradable weapons and items to find
Unique Enemies with intelligent AI
Currently, to find this game you have to go to a specific site which is why we believe this may be a UK-only release for right now. This doesn't mean anyone else can't get it but we are also are not 100% sure you can either just yet. What is even more strange is that there was no information or press release that this game had even been released. The only way to get the game is by jumping onto your Xperia Play and heading over to this site, EA Flexion Store. It is an OEM marketplace where EA HD games are sold.
One other thing to note, during the intro video the Chillingo symbol appears. Does this mean Chillingo is getting back into publishing on Android after almost a year of nothing? If you remember though, at the end of last year EA bought Chillingo for $27 million so it makes sense since EA is involved in Android gaming.
D.A.R.K will cost you £5 which is basically $7.99. We would love for any of our US Xperia Play owners to try this and let us know if it works for you or not. It probably won't though since we are almost positive it's UK-only right now. As with all Xperia Play exclusive games so far, D.A.R.K will end up being a one month exclusive to the Xperia Play most likely before a version for all other Android devices is released. No word on exactly when this will hit US shores but it could be any day from now.
I can download it, so it seems not to be UK only
Regards Dousan...
yea im downloading now too
Just took the game for a quick run and its pretty cool the aiming is pretty easy in this game and the d pad works prefect, all in all its a really good game!
Unsure of how to obtain this I can't find it in my Market Aus here
It's not in the market you need to use the link in OP's post then the link that says 'purchase'. When on EA's homepage hit D.A.R.K link. If it's not there hit the home button in the bottom of the EA page and it should then appear

Now it's easier to find, simply open the Xperia Play app and it's there!
it's already on my Xperia Play app, PHILIPPINES
Whenever i try to get the game via the Xperia-Play app it redirects me to the EA site and there it said:
Unsupported Game
We're sorry but the game you selected is not available for your handset. click the link below to browse all games that are available to you.
Am i the only one having this problem? Anyone know how i could fix it?
I wouldn't bother getting this game, it gets very boring and repetitive. Sure the game looks great, but the gameplay is weak. I would stick to Gun Bros where there's far more depth in enemies, upgrades, and weapons.
I managed to buy it, the game is very repetitive, but fun. The problem is, I finished it in less than three hours. After finishing the game, they tell you they will release addons soon, so they want more money from us.
6 euro for a repetitive game of three hours, and they want to release paid-for DLC? I'm sure the next phone models will have coin slots, just like the old arcade games, because they'll want us to pay 20c in order to respawn after being killed, in addition to having bought the game...

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play is a very big deal for smartphone gaming. As a previous iDevice owner who noticed the potential for games on smartphones was exploding, it was pretty sad to see that that growth was stifled by touch-screen controls limiting what we can do and how deep a smartphone game is allowed to be.
We've seen physical gamepad solutions try to get smartphone gaming out of the "touch-screen gaming ghetto," devices such as the iControlPad, Gametel Controller and 60Beat controller... and they've all had such poor software support that they've pretty much failed to be anything more than emulator assistants.
That is, until the Xperia Play came along last year.
While it may have been initially written off by those who (incorrectly) presumed it's specs wouldn't be able to handle newer games, Xperia Play's picked up loads of momentum since it's release, got tons of AAA developer names backing it (such as Rockstar, Namco, Square Enix, EA, Sega, etc), got every benchmark gaming title on the platform under it's belt, and grew from an initial 40-60 games to 400 faster than any button-based gaming handheld in the entire history of gaming.
And I'm here to provide a database for Xperia Play gamers worldwide that databases them all!

It also features a mobile version that serves as an multi-market integrated method of linking directly to the specific Xperia PLAY version of any given game. You won't have to worry about whether you need to go to the EA Flexion Store, Gameloft Wapshop or find the specific version in the Google Play Store because I've taken care of all that - I sort of anticipate that this mobile version will become even more valuable than the desktop site.

As you can tell, this is a very rough project.
The database is only half done, things are very messy if you aren't using Google Chrome (especially on IE), a lot of the sorting options don't work yet, many functions aren't implemented and that may not even be it's permanent address.
But what it's planned to be is a completely Xperia PLAY centralized site that's major focus is to show what the Xperia PLAY brings to the table.
The Xperia PLAY game list I've created seems to have caught quite a bit of attention and made something of an impact, but the way it's designed means it can't possibly accommodate more than 400 games - this site will showcase everything, link to video media, offer a complete forum for each and every game as well as display Xperia PLAY-oriented articles (such as showing how drastic the percentage growth of Xperia PLAY games has been since launch, showing how it can run games like Dead Space just as well as dual-core devices such as the Galaxy S2, noting how it's the only current handheld gaming system that has an overwhelming majority of it's games rating higher than lower, and so on). It'll also feature a mobile version so people looking to get non-market games will have no hassle.
As one could indicate, it's not even close to being done. About all you can do now is play with the scrolling featured games list and click on "GAMES" to display the complete list of games. But feel free to offer comments/suggestions.

Nice website man. Can't wait until it's finished
Nice to see another dedicated site. I regularly check http://www.xperiagamer.com and will definitely be bookmarking yours too
Most delicious.
Looks great so far!
Thanks for all the kind words! The project's progressing rather quickly, but at the same time it's far from being what I want it to be. Everything's being coded from scratch so I move slowly, but get more control over how this progresses.
I just wanna play a little awareness-raising game; it's quite a shocker to be on engadget or such, and every time Xperia PLAY is brought up, you see someone who's amazed to find out that it's grown from a couple tens to hundreds of games in such a short time.
So I figured the best way to illustrate it is by hitting them in the face with a huge patchwork of games. Glad to see you like it so far.
May I suggest using Drupal to do the website? It's so much faster and easier...
I can even help you with if you decide to do it.
Cool.
You know what would make it even better. If you upload some psxperia games to the website.
There are a lot of noobs like me who just can't get the psxperia tool to work.

Yeah, that and I'm sort of going for a theme here where I keep it *pure*.
That means no PSX, no emulators, not even OnLive. I'm trying to show that Xperia PLAY's game library has a large quantity of quality releases without having to piggyback off systems of past generations.

Interesting idea, I am a little bit surprised about no OnLive (maybe you could just add a forum for emulators/OnLive (then again, there could be a problem with people requesting games they don't own, and all the legal ramifications that could include))

thanks for sharing~
sorry, i don't wont to be rude, but the code of your site is orrible, with a lot of very stupid error: for example you don't have the html tag or the doctype tag, but the main problem is that you use a lot of deprecated tag such as center or font (and probably this is the problem because the site look well only in Google Chrome).
ps: sorry for my bad English

...did you miss the part about it being incomplete? I know what's messy, what's missing and what I need to do before this is clean, organized and standardized... and well beyond anything you've told me, at that. What you see there is likely not even gonna be the final layout, it was thrown together very hurriedly just so that a frame would exist for the database to output to.

I'll definitely be giving them their due attention, but I'm treating OnLive in the same regard as I do an emulator since that's essentially what it is.

Nah, only one of the links are clickable sans subcategories. I got a huge list of things I know needs to be fixed after I've finished off the database, I just posted a bit so people could get a preview since the "patchwork of games" is definitely the major theme of that site.

Thanks so much for this man!!! Brilliant!
nice site, always glad to see people taking interest in our phone!
with onLive! i agree and disagree. it is basically an "emulator" but its one that you could play Dirt3 on your pc then when you are on the go you can pickup right where you left off on your phone and get nearly the same experience.
i still haven't tried onlive yet but as they keep making things smoother and hearing more feedback from the xperia play people, i might take the plunge, adds a lot of games to our phone
I know this game is not Xperia PLAY optimized, but I have emailed the developer and asked if they have plans to add it to the game in a later update. I even linked them to the "Optimize Your Game" tab from TLRtheory's website xperiaplaygamer.net

I realize it's for tablets predominately. But still thought it would not hurt to email the developer. I figure it can one of three ways. One... no reply. Two.... reply but a no on the game for our phone. Three yes we will support your phone e.

No surprise here, this was the reply to my email.
"Thank you for your interest in Avadon: The Black Fortress. Avadon is designed for tablets with screens at least 6.5" large and minimum 950px by 550px resolution, and currently there are no Xperia devices (that we know of) which fit these requirements. If an Xperia tablet is released and we receive further user requests to support Xperia controls, we'll consider implementing this feature. At this time there are no plans to do so, however"
Thanks again!

I have the game for my Transformer Prime and the text would be too small to display on lower res screens.
To add support they would have to re-design large portions of the game...
The game is really well made, though. I would have loved to be able to play it on my Play.
Bought this on a whim that it would be xperia play optimized. It does not show up in the launcher but it does use the dpad and the left trigger for nitro boosts. This game is actually pretty fun and the graphics are really nice and bright. For those interested here is the Market Link.

Again, no launcher support but dpad and left trigger support are embedded
Good find! I really enjoy games like that but I really wish we could get a Super Laser Racer port (its an isometric racer with a weapon system and badass music so it plays like a very tight arcadey mario kart) since New Star Games managed to port over their Soccer game with a good amount of success.

Cracking Sands, a racing game was plan to exclusive for xperia play on tgs 2011.
Then, after over a year's delay,it finally released simultaneously to android and ios... forget the ridiculous exclusive, there's even no xpo at all!!
I just played it on iphone, yeah,it was a great game but i hate rubbing the ****ing screen or shake phone like a idiot! All devs' doing just piss me off!
if there's no xpo added i will never buy anything of this company any more...
So,i think all the fuxking stuff just indicates that from this year on,there's no xperia play optimized any longer,never...
anyway,here is the store link...

Hello,
As a faithful Xperia PLAY user since its release in 2011. I remember the game Cracking Sands being one of the games I have been waiting patiently for 15-16 months only to find that its release is devoid of any Xperia PLAY support. I would like to respectfully request that you please consider releasing this game with full xperia play functionality as it was originally intended as a Xperia PLAY exclusive all those months ago. Please consider the many many users of this phone you have so abruptly disappointed.
Please consider releasing an Xperia PLAY optimized version that fully supports everything this phone has, gamepads, touchpads, triggers, game launcher.
Thank you for your time, and I am respectfully asking that you please release this game for our phone.
Sincerely,
Jesse

Yeah. The right trigger can be used to jump, x is for nitro, triangle is for shooting, dpads for movement. So it plays nice on our XPlays.
But I understand the other XDA members anger here. This was supposed to a Xplay exclusive & now is being released with limited Xplay optimization.

This is the demo for xperia play exclusively on June 8, 2011 just like DMC4! How could they said those words?
Seems that our XP has been totally forgotten,i don't expect about the fully optimized by now. The only thing i hope is that when they could shut down the G-Sensor steering. it seriously affected the handing when using the dpad.

Got another reply, oddly it came from this Tommy guys email address rathen then Polarbit:
"Hey Jesse,
I think those articles stem from a little misunderstanding on SE's part. Exclusives are a very bad fit to our philosophy, which is fairly multiplatform-centric.
We do feel that supporting the in-game controls of the Xperia is important, since that adds significantly to the experience. Menus and stuff, not so much. A lot of work to adapt, and in the end usually works better with touch anyway.
Will forward the request to add Xperia Play launcher support to the devs for consideration.
Cheers,
Tommy

Not that there isnt a time to be demanding, or a bit more blunt. But I felt in regards to this situation and the fact Tommy really was excellent at replaying to my emails (within minutes, literally) and given the situation with how our phone is aging... I felt that being a jerk or coming across as unappreciative of his time and the situation with the game... basically being nice and appreciative felt like it could help us get the full xperia play optimization we would love to have, rather then its current version. But again, even if it never does get updated I would be disappointed but I would also understand from their point of view if its worth updating for our phone and its upcomg two year birthday.
Here's to crossing our fingers and hoping for good news soon. Also, side note... Polarbit was the best custoemr service experience I have had from a developer.....

Not that there isnt a time to be demanding, or a bit more blunt. But I felt in regards to this situation and the fact Tommy really was excellent at replaying to my emails (within minutes, literally) and given the situation with how our phone is aging... I will definately shoot Tommy a BIG THANK YOU email..... I would like to request that we get as many users as possible to email Tommy ([email protected]) and do just a super short email thanking him, as I am sure he obviously got us the support our phone needed.
Example:
Hello Tommy,
Noticed that the Cracking Sands game had an update for full Xperia PLAY support and wanted to thank you in assisting with getting this accomplished. Thank you kindly.
Sincerely,
........

No unfortunately it does not. They didn't do anything g to update the play part. They just added the name to the changelog where before it wasn't listed. Then again its only been 36 hours since I got my last response from polarbit. So in sure if they update it could be a bit.
