Hello Everyone!
So, You got your (supposing) first Android device, and were amazed at all the capabilities the Android OS gave to you, and hence started exploring the world of custom ROM's and some of you (like me) even started basic modding of ROM's to suit personal needs, And hence somehow MANAGED to end up with a struck HTC whitescreen or a Bootloop? Or you are facing some other problems after rooting?
Believe me, Thats quite natural, even i asked for help in my early n00b days! Its fine to ask questions, AS LONG AS THEY ARE NOT ALREADY ANSWERED:angel:
Whatever the problem is, I hope this guide can solve it. Also, it is not easily possible for any normal rooted user to have a Hard Bricked Phone, which of course has no solutions, Other than using it as a paperweight. The methods can be used to revive a phone from a soft brick, or a bootloop. The techniques mentioned below should work on most HTC phones with some minor changes. :highfive:
Case [1] You are struck in a bootloop...
That is not a big deal actually. 90% chances are that a full data wipe will throw it out form the bootloop.
Ok, so a data wipe didnt worked and you are still struck at the bootanimation.... Try replacing the systemui.apk and framework-res.apk of the rom with a rom which was booting properly. (This case is valid mostly if you were theming stuff for you own personal ROM)
Case[2] You are struck on the whitescreen HTC logo. (aka Softbrick)
Confirm if you can go to the recovery via the bootloader menu or not. If no, check the next case.
This usaually happens due to an improperly cooked ROM. And no such ROM is available on XDA as far as i know, so this is for the beginner customizers.
Simply flash another ROM after wipe data/ Factory Reset. This will fix the issue.
Case[3] You cannot even go to the recovery! (aka A bad but still a Soft Brick)
The title is actually misleading... YOU CAN ALWAYS GO TO THE RECOVERY.
Sometimes it happens that the memory at the time of boot is so full, that it cannot process all the commands at once, and hence gets struck when choosing recovery option from the bootloader menu.
Take out the battery, reinsert it...
Press and hold the power button for GREATER than 15 seconds. Continue holding it even after the screen has turned on. (This is a kind of factory reset)
Either wait for the bootanimation or pull the battery again after 30 seconds or so and retry entering the recovery via bootloader menu.
Ok mate, I managed to get to the recovery, NOW WHAT??
Congratulations, First of all
Wipe data/Factory reset your phone.
(optional) Wipe Dalvik Cache ... from the advanced options in recovery.
Wipe data and flash a ROM which is gurranteed to work.
I wish to move from Sense based ROM's to CyanogenMod or ICS or JellyBean or vice versa, Any special procedures?
First, All the mentioned ROM's HAVE SUCCESFULLY BEEN PORTED FOR EXPLORER... expect threads within few days.
The steps mentioned for installing the ROM's , on the respective threads are good enough.
Be on the safe side, go to recovery> Mounts and storage> format /data, /cache, /system partitions.
After formatting them, don't forget to MOUNT THEM.
Flash ROM and if needed, do a factory reset after flashing.
So, your issue is still not solved? Already unlocked the bootloader, and thus voided your warranty? And now thinking of going to the HTC Service center to get your issue fixed?
STOP! Remember that your warranty is now totally void? What face will you show in the service center?
I have got a solution for you... WAIT TILL S-OFF GUIDE. There will be a (hopefully simplified) copy of that here... (after due permission from op)
The solution provided will LOCK your bootloader and it will appear as LOCKED instead of Re-Locked... But a risky process and can harm your phone permanently...
S-OFF is there for pico.. just not for the masses...
If this guide helped you in any way, Dont say or post thanks.... There is a button for it, so USE IT! :fingers-crossed:

The text is perfectly readable. Making it larger would look stupid.
If it's not large enough for you (despite being the same size as the text in your own and every other post in this thread), hold Ctrl on your keyboard and press + a few times. (Or hold control and scroll up on your mouse wheel)

I am used to the standard format... text is fine for me... what needs extra attention has already been bolded.
Anyways thanks for suggestions.. any other handy fix you guys know?

Can you get to the recovery???

hi where can i download CWM recovery for explorer??

No i cannot get into recovery
Here is a detailed thread regarding my problem
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1827822

Lets say about my experience with halt on logo after factory reset. I find that folder "fonts" in my original firmware is located in folder "data" and in folder "system" is only symlink to /data/fonts. If was installed custom recovery, after factory reset from phone setup folder "data" is cleared and fonts can not be restored(may be they are restored from original recovery). If i did factory reset from custom recovery, same folder is cleared too and no atempt to restore fonts. In both cases phone hangs on HTC logo. What is needed to do is to remove symlink to fonts in /system and copy folder /data/fonts to /system/fonts Permissions of folder must be as other folders in "system" and for files inside must be -rw-rw-rw- user root group root. For root access to files you can use "adb shell" when in custom recovery after mounting "data" and "system" from "mounts and storage menu" of custom recovery.
And then you can do factory reset as many times as you wish without problems.
Here is zipped folder "fonts" from my phone but i dont know if it is compatible with every firmware. My firmware is Vodafone Greece(VODAP034).

[GUIDE] Rooting ALCATEL OT-918 (v2.3.6)

Hello everybody,
This is just a small guide I made for rooting ALCATEL OT-918 (Maybe also 918D or M) devices on which SuperOneClick fails. Most of the files are not by me so all credit goes to the original author...
Tutorial:
01) Unzip usb_driver.zip and install the drivers. (phone shall not be off an plugged in, thx dbask)
02) Copy the file Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip to the root of your SD card.
03) Make sure your battery is fully charged and turn off your phone.
04) Head to the directory SP_Flash_Tool_v2.1134.00 and start FlashTool.exe.
05) Make sure the menu Options->USB Mode is checked.
06) Use attached scatter file creator to make scatter. (or use Android_2.3.6_MT6573_Android_scatter_918.txt)
Warnings/Errors like this can be safely ignored:
Code:
[Warning Hint] Get BMT block count fail, default BMT block count is used!
Code:
[Hint] Bootloader files are lost when automatically loading by scatter file.
Code:
Please make sure you want to go through anyway.
Code:
DSP_BL is unchecked, which may result in a boot failure
07) Check the entry with name "RECOVERY" and double click it.
08) Select the recovery.img file and again make sure ONLY one entry is checked.
09) Click the Download button and plugin your phone with the USB cable.
* Wait some time (untill the recovery file is loaded to your phone) *
10) Unplug your phone and press the volume up and power button at once
11) Select "Flash Zip from SDCard" and choose the Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
12) Confirm the update and reboot your phone. Everything should be done, phone is rooted!
Actual tutorial made by others. I only try to make it a bit more clear.

ALCATEL Scatter Retriever v0.1
Just to make this thread a little development related: I coded a tool that should be able to automatically create scatter files for your (ALCATEL) device. It is only tested on my own device but it should work for other (ALCATEL) devices too (Sources can be posted if needed).
Screenshot:
Last words
The tools and files used to make this tutorial are not created by me. The FlashTool is made by MediaTek (the company that makes the ALCATEL devices), the recovery.img is made by somebody at 592zn, the USB Drivers are made by MediaTek/Alcatel (unsure).

Is there something I am missing?
Thanks for your prompt replies..
I am very grateful...It was successful in restoring but it doesn't boot...it shows the logo then goes to a blank screen.
By the way I have Alcatel OT-918(without D/M/N) running Android 2.3.6.
Is there something that I should do before of after the restore?
I have tried with wiping the cache/data/dalvik cache before restore & after .
I give it alot of time but it doesn't seem to boot.
Is it possible that you give me the data and cache files too.Please......that is if it is possible..
Thanks alot

download the One Touch Upgrade software from here: http://www.alcatelonetouch.com/ph/products/andorid_smartphones/ot-918.html to reinstall your OS
to root, use this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27178532&postcount=16
Device is upto date and exits
I did that and it says there is no other later version than the one already install on your device and it exits.
Is there anything else I can do?
Thanks
@kippsoft: Sorry, but I cannot give my data and cache... it contains private stuff such as contacts, emails, password and all stuff like that... nothing more to do I guess
@ mr.expdia: I am very very grateful
I am very gratefull for all that you have one to me.Your time spend and assistance is highly appreciated.
Thanks alot.
But said those images were for Alcatel OT-918?Please confirm that?
I thought those were images before you used your phone...it is okay.
And do you have any working custom rom for 2.3.6? Most of the available are for 2.3.5.
Though my problem is not solved...I have learn alot and that is exactly what I wanted when I joined xda.
Thanks to all.:good:
They are captured while rooting my phone, so yes. And I do not have a custom rom, I think you need to wait for one to be created.
Greetings

Same problem was with me too. But my phone was in warranty so I got it to service center and now it will be replaced with a new one. Hey XDA Guys is there anyway we can prevent this thing? Even I did wipe all data and the phone just booted till screen where Android image comes and then restart.

[Q] I have Bricked my "Generic" ICS 4.0.3. Any ideas?

Hi people and sorry for coming in your wonderful community with a question.
I was trying to root my Prestigio PMP3270B ICS 4.0.3 android device and now I can not get it to function.
The screen I see in the recovery mode is a broken android image without any options. Picture below:

Yes, I tried the reset pinhole without results.
If i let the device to boot (second picture link above) and connect usb cable with pc, there are 2 drives that open up in explorer. I can neither access them nor format them.....
I think its time to go for a more expensive tablet like google nexus 7 that will not let me down like this....
the arnova 7h g3 has the same problem go to arctablet fourm sign up and see you there because some one installed cwm recovery and worked
Sent from my GT-S5360 using xda app-developers app
Thanks man but cwm recovery does not work either...
Now my device won't boot at all.... Only the green LED is on when I turn it on.....
Any ideas as to how I install a custom ROM using the SD Card without USB connection?
Because I can not get it to any screen beyond blank.......
Any ideas people?

I am trying to "burn" that image to SD card so I can use it on my device without the use of USB....
I have tried the "Phoenix Card Tool" but I got error. I couldn't "burn" the image....
Now I am trying a tool called "Win32 Disk Imager"
I will let you know if it works..... I am up to the limit to give up....
I am going to take the device back to the shop pretending that "Oooops.... Suddenly it does not work... Strange"""
Thanks
Athanasis.
UPDATE:
I tried the tool "Win32 Disk Imager" but it does not restart to the SD card when I insert it in tablet and reset. No green rectangle.

Yes guys. I managed to do it. And yes the application that may root this tablet is called "Android ICS Root Unlocker 1.0" Developed by GreekDev -11th July 2012
This is a Zipped file that you will need to unzip.
View attachment 1591923
Make sure that USB is enabled on your tablet and also USB for debugging option is ticked to ON.
Run CMD as an administrator and then write ICS_Root_Unlocker.bat
It is important that you run it from CMD.
At each tablet reboot wait before pressing a key to continue.
Before pressing key to continue enable USB again on your tablet each time it reboots.
If you have problems contact me by quick PM.....

You have to learn a bit more about Android.
It IS rooted out of the box, script just sat qemu property in local.props to already world writable /data partition and copied su binary and SuperSU apk. It did NOT utilize any exploit to escalate privileges. This is the way how devs prefer their devices set up when developing apps that don't require root but want to keep in control of their devices.
Brother, thanks for the info. I am developing in C sharp in visual studio. Also VBA, PHP, MySQL.
To tell u the truth, this is the 1st tablet I ever had....... so you may forgive me for this initial lack of experience.

Yes, script would work. You have factory firmware right now, too. Link I've posted is factory firmware.
As for the Android programming you'll need C for DDK and Java for SDK.
Keep in mind embedded programming is quite different from desktop/web programming.

Yes I know embedded programming is much more difficult. If I ever decide, I would probably go for the Java platform but not for complicated programs. Free time is quite limited here !!!

Youth version reuploaded, battery fixed!
I am having problems with this rom, i have followed the development of this rom, i have flashed multiple versions of the youth rom, and the elite version.
Sometimes at the first boot, it would say "phone memory corrupted, please format"
And sometimes, after a while of using it, it would suddenly freeze, or show a black screen, and if i then pull the battery to make it respond, the whole phone would have reset itself to a few days ago, meaning i lost installed apps of the past few days, whatsapp chat history, pictures taken which are on my sd card!
If anyone could help me fix this problem it would be greatly appreciated!

Do a bypass unmounting phone, it's only way
a tutorial or something like that, dunno what you are talking about tbh.
Coloros worked with the volume buttons
Edit: I found a tutorial that explains how to do it, but my skills don't go that far to compile it.

vo-1 is it possible to support init.d? Maybe we can get more performance with some tweaks, what do you think about?:fingers-crossed:

Thanks for the reply, i have formatted the phone memory multiple times already before flashing.. and when i am on jelly bean (which i am now) everything works just fine. Could it be something with the flashing of Gapps or Superuser?

[BOOTANIMATION] Energy Star BIOS boot animation for LG G3 [1440x2560]

Hello all,
I'd been looking for an Energy Star boot animation for my G3 for several days (I even pulled an all-nighter looking), and ended up determining that I would have to make it myself.
First of all, credit where credit is due:
I based my animation off of the one that galaxys3lover posted in this thread. I chose this one specifically because it was exactly half of the resolution of the G3, so scaling wouldn't be a problem. The Energy Star logo and the blue dude next to the text in the first part of the animation were taken directly from the S III animation and upscaled for use.
The font that I decided to use (which I found out after I began making the frames was the font used in the aforementioned thread) is named FixedSys and is available to download for free over at moviecorner.de.
The animation is at a resolution of 1440x2400, which means there will be a black bar 80 pixels tall on the top and bottom of the screen. The background being black makes these seams invisible.
Without further ado, the animation:
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
As seen above, I edited the animation to display the relevant information for the G3. Also, for the ROM bit, I put CM12 there, as I am running that on my phone. If you'd like for me to adjust this line, please reply to the thread and I'll try to get back to you in a timely fashion.
Installation:
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY BRICKING, EXPLODING, OR ANY OTHER MALFUNCTIONS YOU MAY ENCOUNTER AS A RESULT OF INSTALLING THIS BOOTANIMATION
BE SURE TO HAVE A CURRENT BACKUP READY, JUST IN CASE
Manual Installation:
1. Download the non-flashable zip.
2. Move the zip to your internal sdcard.
3. Back up your current bootanimation (located in the /system/media folder) using Root Explorer or the like.
4. Copy the g3biosbootanimation.zip to the /system/media folder, mount R/W to write to the folder.
5. Rename g3biosbootanimation.zip to bootanimation.zip, and overwrite the previous bootanimation.zip
6. Set permissions to rw-r--r--, then reboot.Flash Installation:
NOTE: This is the first flashable zip that I've made, and I have successfully flashed it onto my device. That being said, I cannot guarantee that it will flash properly for you. If you try this method and it does not work, please bring it to my attention, and I will try to correct the problem. AGAIN, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT GOES WRONG WITH YOUR DEVICE!
1. Download the flashable zip.
2. Move the zip to your internal sdcard.
3. Reboot into recovery mode.
4. Flash the zip, reboot your phone, and enjoy. One last note: I flashed this zip using TWRP; as such I have not tested its compatibility with CWM, so I do not know if it will work with that particular recovery software.
I hope you enjoy the animation.

Great boot screen. I've been coming back to it for a while now. I can be a bit particular with things so I was wondering if you could customize it some to match my phone since I have the 3gb ram/32gb storage version. I'd really appreciate it. If it's too difficult to change, I can live with your version. Thanks for making it!
On the "memory test" can you make it go up to 3145728K
"Flash ROM" to "JasmineROM 4.0"
On the next screen, "memory installed" to 3072M
On the same screen, "Pri. Master Disk" to 32768MB, ROM
And the boot sequence to "Android OS 4.4.2" since I still run kitkat.
I think that's it. Thanks again.
Amazing! Something every tech enthusiast should enjoy, brings back memories. Would it be possible to get the required info to edit the certain info ourselves? I want to edit in my os version and rom. Thanks. Otherwise it would be amazing of you could change the rom name to "Resurrection Remix" and the os version to "5.1.1". Cheers!
Beautiful, I love these boot screens. Had one on my old LG G2, Note 2 and now this. My life is complete. ;D
May not be running CM12 and have the 3gb version, but that's a minor thing!
CM13 / Android MM
Is it possible to create a new one for CM13 / Android 6 (2GB)
For me it doesn't work properly. I can see only the second part of the gif. I miss all the energy star thing.. Like my phone boot too fast..
Cloudy G3 2.5
Hi,
Can you make one for Cloudy G3 2.5?
Thanks
Flashed.
Nice Animation.
Can you please make a generic version that doesn't specify the ROM name or Android version? Also please fix the RAM and ROM sizes like danbest82 mentioned.
I've been away for a while
Good evening, folks
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, I've been working pretty hard on my college work and have been too distracted by my graduation requirements to devote any attention to this thread. If you'd still like any alterations to the animation, I'll try to get those up in the next couple of weeks.
To be honest, I completely forgot about this animation until I saw that someone (not me) had posted this thread on Reddit. Thank you, kind redditor!

Bobschlomboggi

Hey, sorry I've been absent from the thread for so long
I've just updated the animation according to your suggestions. Unfortunately, I cannot figure out how to upload it to this reply and I haven't created enough posts on the forums to post an external link. If you'll message me, I'll send you the link to the manual installation file via Google Drive. Currently, I haven't tested the file to see if it works, and I'm still working on the flashable file. I'll probably have the flashable version done within the next few hours, if you want to wait for that.
Regards,
Bobschlomboggi

I would if I could, man. I spent the better part of two hours last night trying to find some way to upload the files directly to the forum. I'm fairly certain that I'll have to make a new thread if I want to upload the files.

If you want to attach a file to a post, you have to go to the Advanced Reply screen. Just click the "Go Advanced" button at the bottom of the quick reply box to get there. Then you can attach a file.

I honestly think that the forums are not showing me the option to upload other files. I even took a couple of screenshots of the advanced reply page to prove it:

For me neither work, like to my friend in my phone happened

[Moto G: 1st Gen. LTE - XT1045] Blank screen altought functional.

First of all, thank you for reading my post.
I'll try to point out what is going on right now iwith the phone (never saw it happen, ever).
Phone boots but shows a blank (black screen with faded light in the corners) after booting.
After several tries, found out that the 4G is on and receiving notifications (LED is blinking waiting for my response ) and I'm receiving calls nonetheless, so it is working but I can't use the screen.
The screen IS FINE, the boot shows up properly, the fastboot menu shows up properly, sometimes the icons and widgets shows up where they should be, the "Shut down" button shows up properly.
What seems to be the issue is that the upper tray with the time, data, and other things, and the down one with the "◁ ⭘ ▢" menu doesn't shows up AT ALL, so I just receive a blank screen.
Also, the computer isn't finding the phone even if it is connected through the USB cable.
I'm acessing the "Whatsapp" app in the computer right now, which requires the phone to be online and with a internet connection, meaning that the apps are functional and something really weird is happening.
The phone was working fine until last afternoon, just blanked moments after I got out of my house (when I first noticed the issue).
So... anyone willing to crack heads with me trying to figure out what the hell is happening here?
I'll provide pictures soon.
Thanks in advance!
:highfive:
EDIT1: seems to show this "Unfortunately System UI has Stopped" from time to time.
EDIT2: https://youtu.be/AS-wv0NB-g4 (recorded the issue) the 58s shows what i'm talking about.

Most likely a firmware issue - may be a corruption has developed or could be an incompatible app update (Google Play Services or your launcher?) . Are you rooted? You haven't indicated what ROM you have installed (Stock, custom ...?). Is the recovery stock or custom? Can you enter recovery? Does everything look as it should in recovery? If custom, do you have a recent backup and have you tried running it? The 1045 is the US version I believe - are you sure it's not a 1040 (Canada/Brazil)?
Your best bet may be to install/flash another ROM, either stock or custom. Check out lost101's or vpnair's threads for stock firmware for your phone - they've done an excellent service by providing these ROMS and they are great. I've used both at different times to overcome some issues - may be the best way to go at this stage.
Good luck --- S.
Something caused and error in your firmware, you have to do the following:
1.- Try to backup your files. See if you can connect it to the PC and explore the files from there.
2.- Once backup is done, you have 2 ways:
A) Unlock bootloader, then flashing TWRP recovery, then installing a custom ROM like CyanogenMOD or AOSP.
B) Search and download the stock firmware file, extract the files, and then flashing it to your phone using mfastboot excecutable.
You can find the files and the info here in XDA thread, just do it carefully and read instructions.
If you can't find something say it and I can help, but won't spoonfeed you.
Good luck.

Stock and yes, 1045.
I've fixed the issue by restoring the phone through the fast boot (but lost all my data because I couldn't create a backup at all).
Case closed, thanks.

I'll migrate to the Oneplus 3 soon, but just so you know, I'll root the phone later on, couldn't find the cause of the problem and had to wipe the phone in order for it to work, so that's it, case closes. Thanks.
Good to know ...

If you run into the issue again at any point, your apps and some data can be backed up to your Google account. Additionally, it is worth rooting your phone and installing Titanium Backup (free) available on Play Store to back up all your data. Once rooted, make sure you backup your phone through recovery and copy the contents on your phone over to your computer from time to time, particularly the recovery backups and the Titanium backups. If you haven't created backups on your computer of all your phones folders in the internal and external divisions on your phone through a USB connection, another solution, in the event you lose USB, is to take out your SD card, insert it in a card reader and create matching folders for both internal and external (SD Card) on you computer and copy all the contents over directly from the card.
Takes a little time but backups can save your ass when needed.
