Hey guys,
I just installed CM7, which is awesome, but I'm wondering how everyone keeps up with the new nightly builds without spending an hour restoring their phone every day. Is there a way to backup everything about your phone - even your settings, shortcuts, widgets, etc. - and then restore those settings after you install a new ROM?
Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
U don't need to wipe data between every nightlie, I only do that when going from cm7 to faux Rom or vice versa. Just wipe cache, dalvik cache, install zip, fix permissions , reboot.

You probably wanna flash gapps after the nightly, as well...or you won't have much fun.

+1 to this. You wont lose any of your installed apps or settings this way. If you've edited your build.prop file for Netflix then you'll have to do that after flashing a new nightly. And if you are using a custom kernel then you'll have to re-flash that after each new nightly.
between google backup and titanium i have pretty much everything restored in 10 minutes
what about using ROM manager?
All good ways, but I agree with the not doing a full wipe. But if you want to full wipe before each nightly another quick way to restore your apps is Android Commander, a pc program. Also, you do not have to do this:

after every nightly, you never have.
Nice
Worked perfectly! Thanks to all of you for the tips.

How?
I have to wait for market to download every app (including titanium). I can't figure out how to get titanium running without waiting for it to get downloaded from market in some random order.
Thanks.
Hi Guys,
Here I present the first fully functional MIUI beta build.
A word of caution:
This is a port and not a custom stock rom. This is a beta release. It means the build is stable but there are a few known issues. Keep reading for the list of known issues.
About the Rom:
MIUI port based on deodexed Austrian rom.
Kernel - Ardatdat v4.2beta6 1.32G
What MIUI offers:
MIUI may not be as fast as cyanogenmod but offers a lot in terms of eyecandy, not to mention the unlimited range of themes that can make your phone look like iPhone, like HTC Sense UI and many many more custom themes, just with a button click.
The ease with which you can handle all securities like permission, call filtering etc in MIUI is great.
All in all it a different experience altogether.
What works:
Almost everything
Some theme related Issues: (Theme are in general very usable, feel free to go ahead and enjoy MIUI themes, these are minor issues)
1. On first boot after the installation the wallpaper is not properly alligned. Reboot solves the issues. I forgot to change the stock ICS wallpaper, but you guys can do it youself
2. Lockscreen lags - still unable to fix this but a lot of lockscreens from the themes work faster than default miui lockscreen. Try them out.
3. There is a strange issue where after applying a few themes, lockscreen does not work. It seems like a screen freeze but infact its not. its just that the lockscreen wallpaper does not draw onto the screen. If you scroll over the expected place for the lock screen the screen unlocks and everything works fine. Solution for this could be to not use the theme at all or to use a seperate lockscreen under mix tab. It actually happens because the developer made references to certain image files but are not used in the theme. I think its a mistake by the developer of the theme but ideally we should we able to bypass such scenarios and load the screen anyway. I am working on the same. Please note, it happens for very few themes, themes in general are still very usable.
Note:- Always apply themes without font when promted. This will happen when themes contain fonts. Font changes have been disbaled not only on our patchrom but also on galaxy S2 as well. I guess its a general problem.
The worst: If at all you manage to screw up with the themes and render the system unusable, no need to wipe data. Go to recovery and just delete /data/system/theme folder with adb
Help me make MIUI rom better:
I still need testers to improve this rom. Please feel free to report issues
A logcat, if possible, is always helpful.
My sincere thanks:
To fuss132 and ronak.super for introducing me to the concept of MIUI patchrom. I always thought it was an AOSP thing only :good:
To ardatdat coz i am using his kernel.
To TheFrankenstain, I used his rom as base for a deodexed stock rom.
To chandanbs, hasanjaved, parmarket and all others who reported issues and helped me improve this rom.
Link to the rom:
v1.0

(Thanks hors_sergio for uploading)
v1.1
http://d-h.st/FoT
How to install:
1. Wipe data / factory reset, wipe cache, dalvik cache.
2. Flash the rom.
3. Flash gapps from here.
http://www.2shared.com/file/A9nNU4Fl/gapps-ics-20120317-signed.htm[/B]l
I recomment not to wipe data / factory reset from cwm or from within the rom after flashing the rom. But if you did and now stuck on boot animation, open CWM and just flash the RestoreMIUI zip from below. This can also be used, if one of the themes messed up your system and you can no longer get the system to boot. No need to wipe data again. Just flash the zip file
RestoreMIUI link:
http://d-h.st/EUQ
This is a full build. No need to apply any updates provided earlier
Note:
Wipe data will remove all your apps and data. Please make neccessary backups.
Please don't directly flash ardatdat kernel over this rom. I made modifications in init script to include miui framework jar and to enable custom bootanimations.
Last, flash at your own risk.
Happy flashing!!
CHANGELOG:
v1.1
Compiled with the latest MIUI patchrom code. Some apps added by default but most are relevant only for the chinese. This is again a full release and not an update. I had to be because I built using the latest MIUI patchrom sources.
Fixes:
1. Fixes the irritating sec MIUI, sec error dialogs. Now if some application crashes we get proper error message
2. LockScreen sound lag fixed. Some lockscreen still lag if you turn screen off and on immediately. But we dont get the default ICS screen anymore. It gives the current wallpaper now. Overall the lag feel a little better.
3. Themes fixed in dialer where background texture were not displayed correctly. Some theme lockscreens will still not work. But most of these themes are not formed correctly becuase I keep getting missing images in the logs and the images are actally missing in the theme package. Maybe there's a workaround somewhere but I can't solve it for now. So lets live with it
4. PIN unlock works now.
5. MIUI backup seems to be working fine now. No issues with Contact backups
6. Tried to fix SIM import issue. Can someone test. My sim card is empty.
7. Can now play mp3 by clicking on it within fileExplorer. I guess it wasn't working earlier.
8. Lot of other small fixes.
v1.0 beta
Fixes:
1. Now no more FC/restarts on App error messges. However, still need to see why we get sec MIUI and sec and not more meaning error messages
2. USB mass storage works now.
3. FC/restart on volume up/down when screen turned off fixed
4. Themeing fixed (most themes working)
5. Added support for custom boot animation (Thanks to freeza from Galaxy III forum for the wonderful article on changing bootanimation and to wanansmile coz I used his trick to stop boot animation)
6. Root and Permission issues fixed
7. Improper shutdown messages fixed
8. App storage calculation fixed. Now you can clear data, clear cache for particular apps.
9. Added support for move app to Usb Storage
10. Fixed no multiple call rings issue
11. Fixed Browser image downloading app Error issue
v0.1
Initial alpha build
A general tip : Sometimes when I change something in settings, it doesn't get saved. Must do it 1-2 more times and it works. If you click on the text for a setting toggle and not the toggle itself, it works a lot better. Probably its meant to be used this way. You get a sound when changes are applied. I cound enable voodoo smart amplifier too when clicking on the text. I can't fix it coz I dont get any errors in logs when clicking the toggle itself.

Network, WiFi, Data, Camera - Yes
FM - App opens fine, did not test
all bundled apps - They work, but you may get some launcher restart issues with some apps.

Dammit. I did take some sceenshots. Just forgot to put them in OP. Thanks for reminding.
Miui is a aosp based custom rom so it requires different kernel than stock to run. So I have some questions.
1. Can u plz tell what kernel u have used?
2. Is there are some kernel related extra function?
3. Have u removed secured erase? If not data wipe can lead to known emmc super brick.
Sent from my Galaxy Royale using Tapatalk 2.
Please give some info about the kernal. Can we use latest Ardatdat updates? Do I have to flash Australian ROM first to flash MIUI? I am currently on Angeeks custom rom over Nordiac.

Its based on custom stock rom buddy and uses ardatdat kernel. But you can't directly flash ardatdat kernel coz I made init script changes.
I am not sure if you need to flash Austrian rom first. Do it if you want to play safe or maybe you can try directly. I think it should work since you are wiping data. Do let us know the outcome if you choose to try it.

Better wipe, install austrian ICS, latest CWM, flash MIUI and any other stuff you want to (like MBB mod), and fix permissions before rebooting.
while granting SU permissions, device freezes and reboots.
after reboot pop-up appears asking SU permissions and accepting it or declining it both freezes device and reboots.
i m unable to provide logcats as phone is not being detected in adb.
also i m unable to use adb, device is not being detected.

Btw... is cwm 5.5.0.4 okay to flash it?
I flashed Slim Bean 4.2.2. Build 1 doing a complete wipe along with the Slim Gapps package yesterday. It installed fine and I was restoring my apps with Titanium as usual. After this completed I restarted my phone and now my entire status bar is gone. I can't pull down notifications or the quick settings. It's completely gone.
I've done some searching and only found a couple other people with this problem on other phones. Some suggestions have been forcing gpu rendering and playing with the status bar transparency. None of these work.
I also re flashed the rom again (just on top of the existing one as I'm at work and don't have the means to do a complete wipe + flash) to no avail.
I would like to say I love the Slim Bean roms and 4.2.1 was working just great for me but I am probably just going to wait for 4.2.2 Build 2 as this is not acceptable at all. I would have preferred to post this on the Slim Bean thread in the development thread but of course I'm not allowed cause my post count = noob (IMO this is a stupid rule)
Any help would be much appreciated.

Build 2 of Slim Bean has TRDS implemented into the settings, so make sure to download both the ROM and new Add-ons. During installation, be sure to fully wipe the phone meaning Wipe Data \ Factory Reset, Wipe Cache, Wipe Dalvik Cache and format /system, flash the ROM and Add-ons. Also, the launcher has an ability to hide the status bar, so make sure it is working before restoring any backed up launcher settings.

OK I don't usually format /system or flash the add-ons, I will try this. Does nova launcher have this ability? Both holo and nova weren't showing the status bar either way.
Thanks for your help. I will give Build 2 a try as soon as they get their servers all in order.

If any launcher you have tried hides it, then probably flashing the new build will fix it, but yes Nova has an option to hide the Notification bar in 'Look and Feel'.
You don't have to flash the Add-ons but at least flash the Slim gapps, you need the Google framework to sync your account, and also so TRDS will work for the Google apps. Format /system this time because of the new TRDS implementation in settings. It's always good to format /system when changing ROMs, when the base has changed or updates are made that will affect the system partition because during the flashing process, it actually copies everything out of system and puts it back, it's why some issues from one ROM can carry over to another, if it isn't done.
A good dirty flash would be to do all of those steps except Wipe Data \ Factory Reset.

Thanks for the flashing tips, Good to know! I just got Build 2 installed with the new gapps, my status bar is back and it's running beautifully so far. Hopefully my titanium backups aren't the problem... I originally started using titanium back sometime during ICS so I hope some apps aren't corrupt.
So this probably wasn't even a ROM/Device specific problem so next time I'll just post in the general Q&A.
Thanks again and have a great weekend!

I think you misunderstood the question LOL
When you restore from titanium backup a popup will come up saying your android id has changed with three options. Ignore, keep, and cancel(I think is the last one) which option are you choosing? Keep will bring over any build specific data that has been used by the apps and will cause issues, ignore is the best option.

Yes, its device specific. Any time you flash a new ROM your device creates a new id which is then assigned to the data of your apps. Ota automatically discards this id and assigns a new one, where restoring from tb would try to keep that info and it would cause conflicts

That option allows you to select whether it will be shown in your extended power menu... The Expanded Desktop has different options to hide the Status and / or Navigation bar... You can also bind hardware keys to the Expanded Desktop... It may have been your issue, but now you are on Build 2 with a fresh install, things should run great...

I want to upgrade to JB custom ROM on TF101. I have seen a quite few. But I want to know which one is the best. Also please let me know do we need to download all the apps after upgrading the ROM. Is there a way to keep the apps intact after upgrading or reinstalling by taking back up. Downloading again will take a lot of data and a lot of time. Please help.
You can back up your apps with titanium backup onto an SD card or other external storage, but you must wipe the tablet when upgrading to JB, I recommend team eos nightlies with KAT kernel, they work very nicely.
You can also get the apk files from /system/app I think or /data/app and reinstall after putting those back on the tablet after wiping.
Shall you please let me know what is the purpose of KAT kernel

I'm running Revolver 4.2.1. What are the advantages going to JB from ICS? I'm going on a long trip soon, so I'm mainly looking for stability, battery performance and keyboard/dock compatibility.
Also, I'm reading that we need to install TWRP to run JB ROMs? Or can I still use CWM?
Thanks in advance!

Yes move to TWRP as soon as possible or risk bricking your TF as many have done trying to flash new ROMs with CWM
If you install Goo Manager you can easily install TWRP from the top right settings menu "Install OpenRecoveryScript"
Highly recommend TeamEOS4 and KatKernel in terms of everything you are looking for for your trip
Advantages over ICS are performance and stability and a new UI (Which is swappable with the ICS tablet version from settings in TeamEOS)
OK. I looked at some tutorials to get a sense of TWRP and Goo Manager. I know you can view and download ROMs from GM. So after downloading the ROM, boot into TWRP to install it? How about flashing kernels and the Kat app you referred to? Is that downloaded and installed in the same procedure?

Yep exactly the same as a ROM, I do it this way
For a ROM
Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache and System
Install ROM
Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache
---
For a Kernel
Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache
Install Kernel
Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache
---
For Gapps
Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache
Install Gapps
Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache
----
Basically Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache between each flash and when your done, then reboot
For Kat App, its just an app, so wait until you're done with the above, boot into the ROM, get everything set up how you like it, then install the Kat App, its just an APK so you just use a file manager (ES File Explorer is my choice) and click it once to install it
Once in there, goto the Install section and install the GPS and Audio etc, the rest is pretty self explanatory, sections for Audio etc
EDIT - You don't have to use Goo Manager to download the ROMs or others either, sometimes its faster to use the PC and copy them over to the TF then reboot to recovery to flash them, you can use internal or external sdcards in TWRP, I have the links in my sig
EOS 4
I'll second the Team EOS 4 Recommendation
+1 for EOS4
Hi guys,
I've got a Nexus 4 running PA 3.50 and I would like to update this ROM.
I've downloaded the latest PA mako 3.65 and GApps from Goo.Manager
I've done a "update.zip" (apps and data) backup with Titanium BackUp PRO and now I am going to flash the new update of the rom.
Is that right to:
- go to recovery
- wipe cache and dalvik cache
- install PA 3.65 and GApps
- flash update.zip
- wipe cache and dalvik cache
- reboot
Am I loosing anything? I mean, ROM settings, sms, whatsapp conversations and stuff like those?
Thanks in advance

Thanx for the tip dude, I've watched the video and looked for guide on XDA and Google about updating a rom flashing the backups but I didn't find any...
Well...actually I've found tons of them and I'm pretty confused. That's why I decided to post here.
In the video you posted it says to do a Full Wipe, but maybe it's because he's flashing a different om, right?
Maybe I can skip the process and wiping cache instead, 'cause I'm just uploading it.
Cheers
If its just a small update, yes you can just wipe cache and dalvik, but if its a full update/rom,then you need to do a full wipe, also to make sure and check the developers notes to see what he/she suggests.

Thanks dude, you're really helping me out!
May I ask another question?
What about restoring data? I mean, if I backup with Titanium PRO, creating the update.zip file (containing both apps and data files) are there possibilities to get problems on system datas?
'cause I read that system app backups can create conflicts. Is that right?

It's possible but unlikely when flashing only a small update.
Backup and only the app data and download the apps again to be safe.

Oks, so...I am downloading the latest GApps and then do the procedure.
- Wiping cache and dalvik cache
- Wiping factory reset
- Flashing the update of the PA 3+ ROM
- Flashing the GApps
- Rebooting
- Setting up the phone as I did the first time I've booted it
- Installing Titanium BackUp PRO from the Market
- Restoring App+Data ONLY for the green and white colored ones
- Having fun with the updated ROM
So, this is the shortest/best process to flash an update of an existing rom...:good:
I let you know guys.
How did you make out. I use team win it makes it so simple also usually on fire page is where the developer of the rom shows you what to do.

Everything went great!
Well actually at the first flashing of some GApps GooManager downloaded me I got errors just after the boot, but I went to recovery and flashed another GApps I'd downloaded using PA Updater.
So, with Titanium BackUp I simply restored everything...and now my phone has the brand new ROM, but everything with every setting as it was before! :good:
Cheers!
