I can't lie... the screen unarguably looks pretty sharp and I'm very happy with it overall. That being said, at times the colors on it make me feel like I'm having a wild affair with acid at the Willy Wonka factory. Is there a way to tone it down a bit to look a wee bit more realistic?

I realized this weird defect on the screen after almost 2 years of use. It doesn't look like scratch because it has no effect on the display. It is only visible when the screen is off and looked at a certain range of angle.
Has anyone experienced something like this before? Is there any solution other than screen replacement?
Maybe the adhesive is allowing the glass to separate from the LCD?
It looks like oleophobic layer has worn off.

I guess you're right. Today I tested it with several droplets of water. Surface is definitely more hydrophobic near the edges of the screen.
Should I spend any money on restoring the coating? Actually my only concern is its appearance. There seems to be no functional difference on affected areas.
You should read "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" by Robert M Pirsig...
It's a book I've read several times, and each time I think I understand it, but afterwards I always think "What was that all about then?"
But the basic question is about quality and a person's attitude to it. In the end he decides that quality is what you like. If you're satisfied with something, then it's of good quality. Another person looking at exactly the same thing might think it's rubbish.
So (end of long introduction... ) if you're ok with the screen in this condition, then there's no point in spending time, effort and money on "fixing" it.

Indeed. I meant if there are other things I should be concerned beside cosmetic.
I don't think so - after all, you said that the appearance is your only concern and that it works fine as it is.
I prefer black/lunar grey model because...
I prefer white/gold model because...
Express yourself and let us know your opinion!
Black/rose gold was my first choice... since it has been reserved (apparently...) to some Force editions, I think white/gold is better for a premium phone like Moto Z is. Black / grey is a bit anonymous in my opinion, expecially on front. The rear isn't bad anyway...
Black looks more natural on this phone because of all the sensors. I wanted to take white first, but all the sensor holes are black, and because they are everywhere, on top and bottom, it just looks bad and displaced if you take your phone in white.
I agree with you on this but... al last I still ordered it white.
Always black, because it stays black.
White phones always look dirty and gross after a short time and they slowly turn yellow due to UV. Friend has a "white" iphone, it looks disgusting.
Black/Lunar Grey because it's sleeker. I temporarily switched to a white phone back when I had an S3, but something about the black blending in with the display and sensors is just more appealing. Especially with the AMOLED screen the Active Display looks so much better on a black phone face.
I really like black on my phones, but I was forced to get white/gold :/ I like it because idk it's just easier on the eyes and it just looks better overall. Like @thefatalepic said, everything blends together, and it just looks way nicer.
Hi there,
Just received my new Pixel 4a and pretty happy. Just a question. I'm coming from a 2Xl and I just want to ne sure that the screen is normal. It has a kind of a rainbow effect when tilting the phone (specially on a white background). It doesn't matter that much, but when i'm reading some things, it can be kind of disturbing.
I don't have that kind of problems with my old phone. Is it normal? Is it something we are obliged to deal with when having a "cheap" oled screen?
Thanks for your answers.
I have the same problem here, not sure if it's normal. Nobody mentions this on the reviews.
I am using it with a tempered glass and a slight rainbow is there at extreme angles. I wouldn't imagine myself using ths phone at those angles, so ita not an issue for me.
Yes, there is a slight green/magenta rainbow effect. For me it looks like it comes from the gorilla glas they use but could be the OLED or a combination of this too.
This may sound crazy, but hear me out.
Initially I was excited because the P5 was so light in comparison to other fat behemoth phones that are out there nowadays for it's onehanded usability. Now that I've been using it for a while and realizing that it's sort of fatiguing to use even at its size, I think I figured it out. The phone's center of mass is quite high. Above the middle of the phone when you're holding it. It always feels like it wants to backflip out of my hand.
I ended up taping a washer to the bottom side of the back of my case for some ballast to move the center of mass down. It really seems to help.
Juding by the teardowns of the phone, it seems like the battery is somewhat narrow and tall, instead of (nearly) the entire width of the phone at the bottom. I suspect that's the reason for why it feels off.
Am I crazy?
I can't say you're crazy but I find mine pretty well balanced. If I lay it across my finger, roughly in the middle of the phone it balances pretty good. I will say, I'm 6'4 with larger hands so perhaps in just holding it I'm holding more of the phone.... Unless you have larger hands as well.

My hands are pretty big too, I just find it weird. I really notice it with this phone. I had a OP6 before. Obviously that's bigger but I never really felt like it wanted to leap out of my hand. It was just kinda hard to hit the top left corner. Maybe I just hold my phone weird. Who knows.

I think it's the way you're holding it. I have my index finger under the phone, roughly in the middle and it's very well balanced top to bottom.
Me too. It seems pretty well balanced to me. I can put it across my finger pretty much central to the phone and it sits without toppling. I even have a tempered glass camera lens protector which would add a miniscule amount of weight to the top of the phone.
Coming from a OP 7T the Pixel 5 is wonderfully balanced in the hand, the 7t felt really top heavy thanks to is surfboard dimensions.
For those who are interested?
I've had the Flip 4 for almost 24 hours, and can say for me, the crease is definitely less noticable compared to my Flip 3.
Less of a dip in the fold area when running your finger up and down the screen
Hmm, I hadn't actually really looked at the crease yet (still setting up all my apps etc) but the fact I hadn't noticed it is probably a good sign!
Now that I compare them side by side, the crease does look and feel smaller. Not sure if its because of the old one being a little more 'worn in' but still. Nice.

My Flip4 crease is much less noticable compared to my Flip3. Yay!
I have forgotten that the crease was even there
Just got mine, crease is a non issue for me. Love the form factor, may never go back to full size... Unless phone doesn't hold up
My flip 3 was only about a month old, so I think it's a good comparison. The flip 4 is much less noticable when looking at it, and much less perceptible when sliding my finger over it. Much improved!
Ă€gree. I never had a Flip before to compare vs older generations but after 15 minutes of use... i dont notice it, only when the display is off tbh.
I'll go with this. I despised the idea of flips until recently I got the z4. Head on you can't even see it. And after a couple days I can brush over it and don't even pay any mind to it.
It is unnatural and sickening scrolling face book at a 90 degree angle though
