When charging on AC, the app current widget only shows it charging at less than 200mA. I've never seen it get higher than 385mA on either AC or USB.
Shouldn't it be a little closer to 1A when on AC? like 800's or so?
Excuse to have sprint replace it?:good:
Ghetto screenshot is attached.
Well on my doubleshot and the stock charger after it gets up to 100% it will actually go in the negatives to not overcharge the battery, maybe the speedy is doing something like that, but a little bit different

Back to update this thread a little.
We ended up getting a new battery from sprint, but the problem remains. It charges to "100%", but after 1.5-2 hours of sitting idle, it will be down to 40-50%, but once it gets that far it seems to hold it's own and will last a good portion of the day.
Battery stats have been wiped a few times after charging to "100%". So far I've tried NEWsense and AOKP, both behave the same. I also tried a few different chargers too with the same result, even tried different wall outlets. HOWEVER, it seems to charge and stay charged only if it's plugged into a computer.
I'm now thinking this is more of a HW issue rather than a SW issue like I originally thought.
Has anyone seen or heard of anything like this before?
Now it sounds like a deep sleep issue. Something is keeping your processor running how many apps are installed? Try an app called CPUspy so you can see how the processor is being used, also check the governor to make sure its not set to performance
Sent from my HTC MyTouch 4G Slide running MikTouch
It happened both on fresh installs of NEWsense and AOKP. Only app that was installed was facebook. The issue was happening even before installing facebook. Checked the governor and set it to ondemand for both roms right away, on install, it was set to performance.
I don't think it did this on stock 2.3.4, but I'd have to verify that with my wife to be sure.

So I powered the phone down last night and connected the charger. The battery was at 21% when I powered it off. When I looked at it this morning, 7 hours later, the LED was still amber and when it powered up it was at 96%.
I'm going to try keeping it off and charging it until the light turns green, then I'll see what happens from there.
EDIT: I got sick of waiting for the light to turn green. I powered the phone on and it's only at 97%!! After almost 2 hours of AC charging with the phone off, it only went up 1%? Something is not right.
Sounds like something is definitely up. I noticed in your first Pic that your Battery says it's only a 1450mAh Battery. The Shift Battery is supposed to be a 1500mAh Battery. You said you got a new one from Sprint, is it 1500mAh ? What Recovery are you using ?

1. Offline charging (Fixed).
2. Now the fone charges offline but it says batt full at 99% and led turns green. Never touches 100% now. ever since flashed recovery. both old and new.
3. I can confirm this on anker 1900 mah batt.

Yes, this is true.... The LED turns green on 99% and never touches 100%. But i did not care much about it as I was more interested in flashing ROMS...though this is a problem.... I have also ordered Anker Batt... waiting for the courier...
I noticed mine did this last night. I just kept it plugged in and it eventually hit 100%. I took about 9 hours for it to hit 100%. Hope its not like that every time. Ill be finding out tomorrow.

well it hit 100 even when the led was green
I've noticed that the discharge is also a bit strange even on OEM battery. My battery varies very much. Sometimes when I reboot I get 5-10% more juice after boot without putting it to charge

yes same here....what can b causing it.....can it b smthing wrong in s-off procedure
Could it be something to do with the 2.3.3? Cause my battery acted strange even S-ON so I don't think it's the S-OFF procedure itself that caused this. Might be something something to do with battery drivers or something?
AFAIK Li-Ion batteries should never be charged to 100% because it shortens their life, most phones have a safety-mechanism to prevent overcharging.
Its intended to stop charging at 95% to 99%, but will almost always show that the battery is charged to 100% so the customer wont complain about it.
yes HTC is lieing to us, but for our own satisfaction.
So after we flashed the CWM recovery this "feature" is not there anymore and we can see the true charging state.
By plugging the power in and out over and over again to reach 100% you just damage your battery with those short charging cycles.
I read a interrestion thread about it in the Nexus S forums awhile ago and Wikipedia seems to confirm it.
I hope I could help you.

Hey everyone. Here's a screenshot I took of my phones battery use. I was just wondering if this rate of discharge is normal. My screen brightness is always let to the lowest possible, all power saving settings enabled, phone overclocked at 1.6 with ondemand governor. I am using the sensay XE35 v 2.1.0. How could I improve battery life, any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Screens of the battery use screen would be very helpful.
Did u let ur phone battery cycle a couple times?

Thanks for the reply guys, stabro I've had this Rom for about a week now shouldnt the battery be calibrated by now, or does it need a little longer. And matt, isn't that what I uploaded or is there something else that I need to upload

The screen you were at before you clicked the graph to get what you already posted. It shows a bunch of apps with how much of the battery it's been using.
Oh haha sorry, blacked out for a moment
Here's the shot of that.
I have no idea why it doesn't show actual apps, but I havnt messed with it. I'm assuming its rom related?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
Was your wi-fi on the whole time, and is your cellular service always on even in standby? Changing those can have a large impact. Did you have better battery life on a previous rom? Is it the stock battery, cause if so, the life on it is typically not very good.
I've found in all the Sense roms I have used, display is always right at the top in battery use. I would normally have mine at a set brightness like 45% during the day and 25% at night which would drop display usage a bit. Plus try underclocking instead of your overclocking to 1.6.
That might be because you had plugged it in for a few minutes. It shows the battery usage since the last time it was disconnected.
LBN1 yeah I always keep WiFi on, my phone is always on 2g mode. Before this Rom I was using miui, the battery on that wasn't the best but it would see me get through the day with medium use, and prior to that, ARHD by far best Rom for battery imo. Yeah I still use the stock battery, though I'm thinking about buying another battery.
I've read somewhere, cant remember where lol, that a low signal uses a lot more battery as its constantly searching for a Signal, I think u guys have noticed from screenshots that my house, has very bad reception

Do you use your phone alot? I am gaming alot on the phone during schooltime, and it DRAINS battery (1% per minute almost) And I usually charge my phone when I come home again. And what kernel do you use? I use Bricked 1.6 beta, and it's awesome (1.5ghz ondemand)
Some things that helped me a bit was:
-Calibrate battery
-Undervoltage (download system tuner and hit 6 times on the -12.5v button)
-Juice Defender ultimate (It works really good for me)
Hope it helps
If I use the camera and have the flash on, and the battery is less than about 75% charged, the phone shuts off and won't turn back on until I pull the battery.
Often, when the phone powers back up after this, it shows the battery is almost dead, or at least significantly lower than before - I've seen it go from 70% to 15% a few times after this. It's done this with every ROM I've had, including stock Gingerbread and ICS, but it used to only do it if the battery was close to dead. Now I pretty much can't use the flash unless it's fresh off the charger or plugged in.
I'm thinking the battery is shot, would I be correct in this assumption? If so, can I use any Nexus S battery, or do I need to use a 4G specific battery? It's the Sprint 4G model.
Thanks!
If anyone cares, I got a new battery. Camera now works reliably, and I now get more than 6-8 hours out of a charge. Snagged the Anker 1600 mAh battery from Amazon.

While I was out today (about 3 hours), 4G was on, and I had music streaming as well. Running JellyBean (CM10 Experimental) with Air Kernel @ 1.2 GHz.
Think it's safe to say my battery was shot - it was a Sprint-branded battery that came with the phone, but I got it used, and the person I got it from last year got it as a refurb.
When was the last time u reset battery stats in the old battery since its supposed to be done at least every time u flash a new ROM or if in same ROM for some time do it about once each month....
And what ROM where u using and what camera ..... stock or market APP?

One of the Google developers came out awhile back and stated there's no reason to reset battery stats, ever. TWRP 2.2 doesn't even have the option anymore. Plus the phone kept powering off when I'd use the flash on the old battery.
I'm using Burns' CM10 Experimental (8/6) with Air Kernel, but I've had this issue with every rom, including stock (as stated in the OP). Problem happened with stock camera app and every 3rd party camera app, also happened if I used the LED as a flashlight. When it's happening across multiple ROMs, I think it's a safe bet to say it's a hardware problem.
..
The phone was a refurb that I bought used, and came with a Sprint-branded battery when I bought it. But yeah, I was basically asking someone to verify what I was thinking - which you just did.
Here's the battery it came with:
Anyway, several days on the Anker battery now, and no complaints at all. Battery life is easily tripled, though this screenshot was taken with me sitting on wifi all day. It seems to hit 70-80% about when the old battery would die. Remember I'm running an early experimental build of CM10, with a mild overclock.
..
I have had this Nexus S for nearly two years and recently I ran into an issue with the battery draining BIG TIME for no apparent reason. With any sort of use, the phone will die in 1-2 hours. If it sits by idly doing absolutely nothing, it will go from 100% to dead in ~6 hours.
It is bone stock - never been rooted. It's running on 2.3.4 GB at the moment. I have completely wiped it and set it to factory default. There are no apps installed, no accounts synced up but the drain continues. I even swapped it with a brand new battery and it still does this. Would anyone happen to know what I can do to fix the issue? The phone does have a few scuffs but it has never been severely dropped or gotten wet. It seems to have just started doing this on it's own.
This is the phone after a 100% charge and full wipe. It put it next to me and did not touch it at all. It was down to 50% after about 4 hours.

I'm no expert, but it looks like you don't have WiFi connected, and from your picture it appears that your cell signal is so weak that its only intermittently connected. When the cell radio has to work that hard constantly to maintain a connection, it will drain the battery very quickly.
On the other hand, if you're stock and unrooted, the phone should be prompting you to update the OS to 2.3.6, then 4.0.4., then 4.1. Any of those may cure whatever is currently ailing it.

I have checked, there are no updates. I think AT&T pushes them out. The phone is stuck on 2.3.4 either way.
There is no SIM card in it. It is not looking for a network at all. True, WiFi is turned on but I seriously doubt that it would drain battery from 100% to 0% in a matter of hours with the screen totally off.
My N5, running XtraSmooth + stock Google kernel recently started heating up a lot. Now I know its summer time and naturally it would tend to get hot, but my father's N5 is always very cool to the touch. Even in an air conditioned house running a stability test brought my N5 to temps as high as 86°, whilst the other N5 was just about hitting 50°. My battery gets notably hot too, and of course that hinders my battery life too. Does anyone know what's going on?

My guess would be you have an app/process running full wack on your phone running up the CPU and draining battery. Look at battery stat screen maybe that will help. Try factory reset and run it empty for 30mins or so (no account no apps) then set up one account and app at a time.
Android malware/virii are on the rise, and I was hit with something that did this but did not show up on the battery monitor of any app.
I strongly suggest an immediate full wipe and clean flash, as well as changing your passwords if you truly want to be safe.

Hey, I tried that earlier today but to no avail, battery stats look normal, Facebook is the only third party app that uses battery, but only 2% at that too. It's only kept the phone awake for 50s, and CPU total is 2m so it doesn't look like its Facebook, but my battery still idles at 40-45°. I wiped and started again from scratch but first I let the phone set for 2 hours to let ART finish carrying out any optimisations so the phone could cool down and perform optimally. Antutus stress test still ramped my CPU all the way to 80° whilst the other N5 hit 71° this time around, it quickly went back down and cooled off quickly yet my Nexus took forever.

Mines stared to do it too I'm on stock and ElementalX. I've hit 85°C and as it's still rising turned it off. I've seen a few reports of this. I've no idea what it is but suspect an app update. I've used greenfly and Amplify to lock everything down and it seems to work. Its at 52 and charging ATM. Until I did that I couldn't use the phone and charge at the same time

I just changed ROMs altogether, even after wiping I was still getting ridiculous temperature gains, more worryingly so for my battery. I remembered during winter to keep the phone cool I added adhesive copper to the battery and CPU, I applied thermal paste and made the copper thicker, I also *removed* the copper from the battery, since during summer time it'll only make things worse. That seemed to have worked since my battery isn't anywhere near as hot anymore. The CPU still gets very hot - around 80° still, but it seems to level out much quicker than before.
