Yes,
As long as you are on 1.85, the exploit still works.
Hello , i am still in 1.85 . So i am still able to do the root? I don't have an ATT service , i use straighttalk do i necessarily need an att sim card in my phone? to run the update? Because when i do it with the straighttalk sim card inside the phone displays that the server is not working . Can i do it via wifi?
Thanks!
Help me please!
This is exactly what mine says. I have a HTC one x on att and windows 7. Please help!

I would go back to the original thread and have a read then. There are a lot of tips
Like making sure the phone is charged over 40%
Making sure usb debugging is enabled that fastboot is turned off that your in charge only that WiFi is on to name a few. Some people had to try 4 to 5 Times. I'm sure if you take the time to read through you will find enough suggestions to help.
If all else fails find the original thread by beaups and try to do it manually.
The rm superuser thing I forgot was added to the script later its looking for superuser on the phone to remove it and move to data app I believe.
If your still stuck report back.

HTC has yet to push out the OS that will prevent the Rage method from working. Even if they did the ./gfree method should still work.
Im gonna try

Thats what it says. Im gonna keep trying this method. thanks guyz for the help. Im just baffled.

if you are doing the "ultimate guide" look at the screen, the phone and the ADB Shell commands, and see if anything says about a fail or error between each step.

Reading my mind. I guess that was only for the G2 then.
I'm guessing temproot works with Visionary?
Does the ./gfree -f say anything about errors at the end? It seems to be kind of particular about when you reboot. I also found that I had some files from my previous phone (warranty replaced mt4g) on my sd card. It was not until i removed those files that the ./gfree -f worked.
Here is what I did.
Temproot via visionary.
ADB push the gfree files to /data/local
terminal emulator
su
cd /data/local
chmod 777 gfree
./gfree -f
reboot
temproot with system r/w
permroot, should cause a reboot.

well no not really. from the blogs that i've been reading HTC will be pushing out a ROM update that will prevent all "Rage against the cage" style of rooters from working on their ROMs. So the HTC Glacier is included. but the ./gfree method i don' "think" uses Rage to work.
Another thing to watch is that when a guide says to power off, you pretty much have to pull the battery, because the MT4G typically just goes into hibernation, and doesn't do a true power cycle...

I was having a hard time just like you. I ended up doing it all on the phone (no pc)
Temp root & r/w in visionary
Copied gfree to /data/local with root explorer
terminal emulator
su
cd /data/local
chmod 777 gfree
./gfree -f
reboot
temproot with system r/w

Perm root never wanted to run for me, so after making system r/w I used ROM manager to flash clockwork recovery and then flashed Iced Glacier.
My wife's phone was impossible to S-OFF. It would even flash the eng hboot successfully and still show S-ON. Grankin suggested it was a faulty eMMC controller; swapped it and the phone rooted first try. I was at my wit's end after my phone was so simple.
This was all pre-gfree, FYI, so I don't know if that would have worked on her original phone or not. Seriously consider a swap if nothing else works.
I was the same way. I was about to pull my hair out. Then I did the gfree method and got s-off in one try and in less than ten minutes. Definitely the way to go.

Super Manager is a free Root explorer, and would of done the same thing. So if your phone moved the file to the correct spot then there is something wrong with your ADB.

Should be the first download in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996
I had the issue of downgrading the NEW out of box 2.3.4.... I was given this link by neidlinger. I had to edit the ending of it to get it to work but it worked, and is working great. Here is the link, and below it is my edit of them.
P.S. MAKE SURE YOU USE THE LINKS TO DOWNLOAD THE PROGRAMS YOU NEED....IF YOU ALREADY HAVE THEM DOWNLOAD THESE AND REPLACE THEM.(JUST TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE) It wouldn't work for me until I re-downloaded and replaced them.
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Glacier:_Full_Update_Guide
Downgrading to 1.17.531.2
If the HTC Glacier is running a Gingerbread firmware (2.xx.xxx.x) (Settings » About Phone) you need to downgrade the device first in order to root. If the HTC Glacier is already running 1.17.531.2 or lower you can skip to the Rooting the HTC Glacier section.
1. You will need ADB on the computer to proceed thru this process. Follow the Android SDK guide, to get the ADB shell on the computer.
2. Download fre3vo, misc_version 0.2 & the 1.17.531.2 firmware:
o fre3vo: Download
md5: 010e076a4a93be876579711bf8934c70
o misc_version 0.2: Download
md5: 1f40aaf88d1bf15775631a58c4361218
o 1.17.531.2 firmware: Download
md5: 49d07f0ee7de1765a6a84cb12fa53110
3. Unzip the fre3vo & misc_version packages to the same folder as adb (the /platform-tools folder within the Android SDK folder).
4. Make sure the filename of the firmware is PD15IMG.zip exactly or it will not work and copy it to the same folder as adb.
5. Connect the HTC Glacier to the computer via USB.
6. On the computer, open terminal and run the following commands:
adb push fre3vo /data/local/tmp
adb push misc_version /data/local/tmp
adb shell
chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/fre3vo
chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/misc_version
/data/local/tmp/fre3vo -debug -start FAA90000 -end FFFFFFFF
adb shell
NOTE: You should have the "#" sign instead of the "$". If you do, you have temporary root, and can continue on. If you have the "$", then the exploit has failed, refer to xda developers, RootzWiki, or #G2Root for further assistance.
/data/local/tmp/misc_version -s 1.00.000.0
exit
7. Now that misc version has been downgraded, the HTC Glacier is ready to have the firmware downgraded. On the computer, open terminal and run the following commands:
adb reboot bootloader
8. Use Volume up/down keys on the HTC Glacier for navigation and Power key for confirmation. Select Bootloader to flash the 1.17.531.2 firmware.
( IT MAY AUTOMATICALLY START )
Once finished you can Root the device by following the instructions on this link…..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996

When it says waiting for device to reboot, are you manually rebooting it? You should. I have now used this method 4 times and every time it took a few tries. Check your app drawer and see if there is an app called SuperSU. If you do have it, click on it. If it says no binary installed then you need to try and root again. If it says binary needs to be updated, click update. That means you're rooted.
Use the directions from here, not some other site.

RE: Casual R131. "You just download it, connect your Galaxy S III, launch the tool". Ok, I'm a NOOB to android. What tool?
In windows or linux, once you download, I take it you decompress.
Then what exactly do we do? Open a command prompt in Win? Then run what?
Same for Linux, run what from what. Just launch the tool is too vague for us newbees.
Understand the setup of this just fine. Not the execution.

Which method to root are you using, and which firmware/software version is you device currently running, and lastly do you have USB Debugging enabled on your device?

For my best understanding, 67.220.3.en05 is only available from the HKTW OTA update up to now (SBF is not available), which is known that it's not able to be rooted at this moment (except replacing the boot.img with the ASIA RETAIL version)

Can you please check if /data/local/12m exists (and writable)? All these moto ICS root scripts depends on this vulnerability: http://vulnfactory.org/blog/2011/08/25/rooting-the-droid-3/ Would like to know if HKTW does things differently.
i tried accessing it via the computer and also through my phone using root explorer, but to access that folder says my phone needs to be rooted, so no luck, how do i go about flash the asia retail .img will that make any difference ?

update 3: okay so i managed to flash china retail again, it keeps crashing and sometimes it even just hangs on the motorola logo, can anyone please point me in the direction of a rom or something that will work, the asia retail flashes and works properly but has the same problem as the hktw folder access is restricted. :/
