If you were to get a 7.5 id get a lumia 900
But with the impending release of windows phone 8 (lumia 900 wont be upgraded) I would wait and get a phone then (if possible)
Maybe get a 710 or something cheaper for a few months?

Yeah, there is really no reason to get any windows phone currently out, in the market place. Just wait a few months.

Yeah, I thought the same thing for a while. I had planned to stick with my 1st gen Samsung Focus until WP8 handsets started coming out...
I was mugged last week; they took everything I was carrying on me at the time, including my Samsung Focus. I needed a new cell phone and I wanted to keep access to all the apps I had purchased, so I headed down to the AT&T store and picked up a Nokia Lumia 900 for $49
Two words: Worth it.
The Lumia 900 is faster than the Focus in every possible sense... way faster. I play a lot of Servivalcraft on my phone, and the Focus struggled to maintain a decent framerate with the resolution set to "Low," where as the Lumia 900 has no trouble maintaining 60fps with the resolution set to "High". Apps that hadn't run the smoothest on the Focus (like Amazing Weather) run with no effort at all on the Lumia 900. The upgrade also doubled my internal storage from 8GB to 16GB, and the Lumia appears to have much faster read/write speeds.
Oh, and the gyroscope. The Focus had to make due with emulating a gyroscope by using data from the compass and the accelerometers. The Lumia has a real gyroscope and it shows. Apps like Photosynth work far, far more easily on the 900.

If possible I would opt for a used HTC WP until WP8 comes out at which then you can buy a WP8. Reason for HTC is because the sound enhancer provided gives great unmatched surround sound and compression restoration.

Hello, sorry for late replies.
Thank you everyone for your suggestion. I decided to wait a bit for windows phone 8 devices by Nokia. Thanks for the info. once again!

Thinking to buy the Nokia Lumia 710?

i am thinking to buy the Lumia 710 when its available in India, but before buying i want to ask some questions. I am a WP n00b and have only used once and that too for few minutes since WP are not that famous in India and i really liked it a lot.
Now my first question is-
1) What are the customization that we can do in WP like changing themes, changing the way the phone looks bla bla bla
2) is there any Custom ROMS available like in Android
3) Can we send files via bluetooth by hacking
4) How far will my Lumia 710 be upgraded, i mean until which version of windows i can expect the device to be upgraded
5) is the GPU powerful enough to run future games when more phones will be released with more powerful GPU
Hope someone will answer these questions and please forgive me if i am asking som ultra-n00b ques
1) Apart from changing the colour of the tiles, there isn't really any other way that you can customize WP7. There is a way on unlocked phones to theme the tiles which has recently been released here but it is pretty useless until live tiles work.
2) There are custom roms for HTC devices but none as so far for the Nokia devices.
3) Not as far as I know.
4) It is pretty much guaranteed that you will receive all of the upcoming WP7 updates, I'm not too sure about how Microsoft is going to support older devices when WP8 is released.
5) As there is a guideline which manufacturers have to follow when producing WP7s, pretty much all of the phones are similar power-wise. We'll have to wait for the Apollo update, which is rumoured to bring dual-core support to windows phone and see what games are released then.
there are a lot of limitations so should i buy the Nokia Lumia 710 or the Xperia Play, please dont suggest me ANY other android phones
anyone please?
After using WP7 for more than 6 months and using Android earlier I recommend you to for WP7 smooth stable and beautiful design good features and battery life go for Samsung Omnia W which is due to release next week in India it has secondary camera as well

maybe you're looking on technical support you've come to accustomed with...
anyway, i've used all kind of phones, and now that i tried this lumia 710 for two days it already move my razr into a backup handphone... LoL
simple, effective, beautifully done... couldn't asked for more
the razr will be my backup phone as games and multimedia powerhouse
I personally didnt like the nokia lumia 710 that much because I got use to a big screen from the hd2, sensation but overall the phone works great & the screen rotation is the fastest I seen on a phone.
lumia 710 is very good. vote 5 star/ 5 star. I like it....
Massive necropost there, lbshock, in the most "truly useless" sense of the word.
However, to avoid people getting confused when they read this 6-month-old thread, custom ROMs are now totally possible on the Lumia 710.

[Q] Do all Windows Phones perform the same?

So I went to my local best buy, and decided to take a second look at Windows Phones. I played around with the LG Optimus 7. I found it extremely smooth and responsive. Also user feedback with Windows Phones seems extremely positive as well. So I've decided that I want to put the family on Windows Phones. I'm on Wind Mobile in Canada so I need a phone from TMobile as Wind doesn't carry any Windows phones. So that being said, If I started the family with a lumia 710 would the phone be just as buttery smooth and responsive. I know with Android, the more powerful phones are noticeably snappier, is it this way with Windows Phones as well?
I have to say when looking at market share stats you would think Windows Phones aren't worth looking at, but I'm now officially sold.

Bump. I'd like to know this as well. I'm also thinking of getting a windows phones as my next purchase.

Yes, the OS is very optimized among all the devices, and if you found the Optimus 7 smooth, any of the Lumias will be even better due to a better processor
The LG Optimus 7 runs an older Snapdragon QSD8250 @1 Ghz while the Nokia Lumia 710 runs a newer Snapdragon MSM8255T @1.4 Ghz.
Personally, it doesn't make that much of a difference because all Windows Phones are already speedy. That said, big apps load much faster on the Lumia 710.
Feel Free to buy which ever you can afford. I have the first generation device samsung focus and its pretty smooth even after the mango update.
Just look around and compare specs if you have specific need like large screen, camera and storage.
All the WP7 handsets are real smooth (Some like lumia a little extra due to better processor)
This is maily because of the strict regulations microsoft has put up as standard to run the os

The only thing someone can add to this is go and buy a WP7 jeje
Actually, there are some issues with the speed of .NET applications. Even IMDB app (application from Microsoft) works a bit slow on my HTC Mozart. So I think it is better to consider faster processor.
Anyway, does anyone here can check the app and tell how IMDB app works on mobiles with CPU Freq > 1 GHz?
IMDb app works smoothly on LG Optimus 7 with 1Ghz Snapdragon QSD8650. Sometimes there are problems just after application start (probably some additional background tasks), but as longer you use it, it becomes smooth

Help with my decision

Hello guys
I have quite a dilemma right now. Im seriously thinking about buying Lumia 900 when it will be avalible in Europe. I Love the looks, love Nokia brand, love the Windows Phone..amazing phone BUT i was thinking. Since the Lumia 900 is only a single core phone (I dont care bout hw specs, since WP is working fast as hell) and the Windows 8 or Apollo ? is behind the door with the multi-core support im really worried about the update of the Lumia 900. What do you guys think ? Will the Lumia 900 get the Windows Apollo update or NOT ?
Its quite (HELL expensive) expensive phone i dont want to buy it and get it outdated in 6 months, with no chance of updating to amazing Apollo.
Your opinions ? Should i buy or should i wait ? :/
Thanks
Since nobody here works for Microsoft (however MS employees already signed a very strong NDA, so they are more silent than regular members ) nobody can tell you exactly how amazing Apollo will be, what handsets will receive that update etc. Only rumors and baseless assumptions.
Lumia 900 is a very good phone, so if you can afford it - buy it As for "outdated in 6 month" - it's just a current trend; manufacturers releasing new stuff every half a year; so it's not a WP specific problem. But you never be able to get a "lifetime" device; there is no such a thing.
I see no reason to suspect that current phones, especially gen2 phones, and particularly the gen2 flagship phone (Lumia 900) won't continue getting updates. This isn't Android, here. In fact, Microsoft have said they're requiring that phones be supported for some time. All current phone, including the gen 1.0 models (now 1.5 years old) are getting Tango. I wouldn't be worried.
Now, AT&T might try and screw you over with late updates and such... they have a well-deserved reputation for that kind of thing, and despite Microsoft's efforts they managed to delay some of the WP7 updates by months. Eventually, though, the updates still go out.

[Q] Buy device now or wait for Apollo

This is a repost from the Nokia 900 forum and just wasn't sure if this is a better place for this question. Saying that my decison is currently being based around said device.
I am very interested in this phone and the $20 Amazon price tag makes it even more exciting but Apollo is (reportedly) just around the corner.
My question is should I wait and get Apollo or go ahead and grab this? I can't think of a good enough reason to wait ATM but I must admit that is mostly due to the fact that I can't think of any must have features Apollo would have that Mango doesn't or that the 900's Hardware wouldn't be able to handle other than screen resolution and I am certainly not waiting 6 months or better for that.
What say you?
I'd go for it if my contract was up anytime soon. I seriously doubt the Lumia 900 won't get an upgrade to Apollo, like you say the hardware is all good plus Apollo runs WP7 apps too.
I agree - grab one now. With the support from the expertise of this community you KNOW youll get all the benefits of Apollo in due course lol

Thats something I hadn't really thought about haha. Silly me.
Now I am just waiting to get hands on a white one to see how much that gloss will bother me. If not that one then it is a black one with a case. Why isn't the white matte?!?!?!?!
It is entirely possible the others understood your question and I do not so I would like you to explain what you are asking.
Buy the Lumia 900 or wait for Apollo
A phone vs an OS upgrade?
I do not understand the comparison.
But just to weigh in on the waiting game if you can wait then wait. If you need something now then get it now. In the subsidy world I would find it hard to believe the the Lumia 900 will end up at a price that is unobtainable vs the debut special price we are seeing now.
There is very little reason to believe that the Lumia 900 will not get Apollo. It would go against the microsoft plan and all the hard work Nokia put into this phone. But if you are looking at it from a handset offering (rumoured dual cores) when Apollo launches then if you can wait then wait. I am waiting for Ivy Bridge + Kepler (but giving Trinity a look just for due diligence).

Its more of a question of upgrading now(Lumia 900) or waiting for an apollo device. And everyone mentions upgraded processors or dual core but for what purpose?
What are we expecting Apollo to have that will quantify having that kind of neccesary upgrade? I am not sure if the Lumia will get the upgrade( most likely will) but I suppose the question is other than resolution what killer feature would it be missing?
Well to wait or not to wait depends solely on if you can or cannot. Also is the Lumia 900 missing something that you need, and may be offered in a next gen phone?
The Lumia 900 is good enough for me now. FFC, 4.3" screen. I do not need a dual core or NFC or 1080p or bigger storage. The only thing I would need would be more apps and features.
It is reasonable to assume the Lumia 900 will get Apollo.
It is reasonable to assume Windows Phone will bring multicore phones to the table.
wait for apollo
When it comes to appollo it would not be just an OS upgrade
Appollo has three features which would radically change the phones released for it.
1) It would allow for external storage so you can expect the phones to be having removable sd cards
2) HD screens (I am sure the appollo version phones from samsung and nokia will blow the retina display apart)
3) Dual core CPU. WP7 runs fine with the current CPU but dual core is just making it more bad ass
But if I were you I would go for a 900/800 now and once appollo phones come start think of my second phone (Nov end is a long wait)
Go for one now
I see that you like the WP7 OS, otherwise you wouldnt be that unsure if buying it now or later.
So its pretty close that you go for one now, and most possibly upgrade it officially, otherwise the hackers and modders here will make it possible then

This has to be the most complete answer I have seen yet!! Thanks for your input and showing the reasoning behind it.
I agree wholeheartedly with your opinion and this will most likely be my plan of attack.
Quick question for you or anyone else while I have your ear. Has anyone seen the gloss white 900/800? And if you have what are your impressions if it's durability compared to the matte?

I am assuming these 'three features' are purely based on rumours and your own speculation right?
There isn't even enough info about the Tango devices yet, I doubt all these has ever been said anywhere from any official or trust worthy sources. Learning lessons from how everything was copied easily in iOS 5 and Ice Cream Sandwich after Mango developer previews, Microsoft has so far done a good job to keep Apollo very very close to their hearts. I would love Microsoft to not say a word or even bother to release a developer preview until 1 day before the launch, if they really feel desperate. So, if these are not rumours or speculations, links please

Does WP sync perfectly with Google?

Planning on getting an 8x later and was wondering if WP syncs well with google? I rely heavily on my gmail account, contacts and calendar so I need all my devices synchronized.
I understand getting your contacts, calendar and gmail can be done easily with WP8 but will it sync consistently? Like if I change a contact with my phone, all my other android devices will get it too?
lastly, would you recommend the 8x, 920 or the ativ s? I'm on a tight budget and the 920 is still pretty expensive.
As an 8x owner and Google user, I can say it does work. Replication can be a bit slow as Google has moved away from PUSH technology (ActiveSync) to PULL technology (IMAP).
I would recommend the ATIV S first, then the 8X, then the 920. ATIV S gets the win for the non-capacitive "start" button, the OS is fully unlocked, you can plug SD cards into it, and the T899M variant supports AWS and AWS LTE. (Important if you are on a carrier that uses it). I rank the 920 last because the design sucks. The back isn't curved, and it is fat and not comfortable to hold. There are a lot of people that love the design of the 920, but I find the 8X design to be superior.
hope that helps!

Replication meaning there's a lag before it syncs? I've been trying to find workarounds and the solutions have been pretty vague. My impression is that you have to migrate to outlook and that it does not sync directly to google.
The 8x is really cheap right now over here but I was surprised you're recommending the ativ S. What do you mean the OS is unlocked?
I'm tempted to get the lumia for the better camera and Nokia Drive though
the best sync interval you can pick is 15 mins. This means that whenever there is a change on one of your google accounts, it can take up to 15 mins for the changes to replicate back to the phone. This is due to google being lame.
when I say the ATV S is unlocked, I mean you can do fun things like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2434959. (Look in "Windows Phone 8 General --> Windows Phone 8 Development and Hacking").
Nokia has released "Here Drive +" for all devices. If you want to get it for free, you can try out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2400715
Thank you very much for your help. I was planning on getting a Moto g because it's the same price as a second hand wp but I'll prolly get the ativ or 8x instead because they're better specd
I live in the Philippines, will Nokia drive work here with the 8x if I hack?
yes. just install "Here Drive +" using Fiddler (Details in the "windows Phone 8" --> "Developemnt and hacking" forum. this trick will work on ANY WP8 device) and you will be good to go. I just checked on mine, and "Philippines" is listed as supported.
enjoy your phone!

Thanks bud! I got a sweet deal on the lumia 520 for just 100 dollars and got one lol! But it only has Nokia drive and I'll be going abroad soon so I will be ending the plus app.
I'm still shocked that the lowly 520 works perfectly, better than any android phone at that price range!
