sd-ext conversion problem - Galaxy 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi,
how could I convert sd-ext from ext4 to fat32 ? I need eclair.
"sd ext fat32" or "mmcblk0p2 fat32" will make sd-ext inaccessible.
So after normal reboot or re-power phone, I see no mmcblk0p2 line at fs.current
I am on g3mod 2.5 OC
any adwise ?
I definitelly CANT reformat SD card or use some linux partitioning tool .I already tried some linux tool recommended at XDA and sd-ext was unusable then.I have 32 GB memory full of data, so I need some quick and non data-loss step :-o

Try using kmapp from the themes and apps forum. Just search fot it, download it, install it and when you get into the app its quite easy to change the partition type..
Edit: here is the link = http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301697.
Edit again: read what hillbeast said in the g3mod thread
Press thanks if i helped.

I know You think he is crazy, BUT :
a) Froyo is garbage of garbages - except JPU, GPS is at ALL ROMs nearly unusable and JPU is crown of unstable garbage, so I cant use ALL features at one ROM
b) CM 7.2a ? looks great, but :
- GPS is useless, if you have no data connection as I have and as I primary need, then I cant use CM7, I simply cant live without only one GPS I have
- bluetooth does not work at all , OK, I can live with that
- wifi is not 100% OK, I cant connect to some AP where I am able connect by froyo to them, I can move on that If I can connect at my home
- camera does not work at all , no barcode possibilty - As camera is ****ty at all, I can live with that
c) CM9 - I tested it at first version possible, where it was really unusable, but TODAY I am testing 4.0.4
- I had to reflash to Eclair, disable PIN and reflash CM9 , it is definitelly not GOOD
- bluetooth can pair, but probably does not work - I can accept it but if USB storage does not work ...
- USB data storage does not work , with combine of bluetooth problem, I cant get data to phone
- Sygic Aura, Navigon (tested 4.0.1 only ) does not works, luckily Ndrive + Copilot works
+ + + + + + GPS looks like working , today at czech rep is very cloudy, so hard to test GPS fix, but offline fixtime can be improved
So at this moment I have to test 4.0.4 and if I will discover some problem make me impossible send SMS, make calls, clock problem , 100% cpu usage with G3MOD kernel 2.5 OC at 1200 MHz like I used at re-odexed JPU, I will have to do what I have to do :
REVERT BACK TO ECLAIR ane NEVER EVER BUY anything from SAMSUNG F******G company they are ****ting on customers ...
but I need link 2SD , and there are no custom ECLAIR kernel with ext2/ext4 support, so I need to find some way how to convert sd-ext to FAT/FAT32 without repartition SD card...

are you sure ?
because I converted sd-ext without sd card repartition or data loss, same like at data/system partition convert
anyways, KMAPP is good, I think I already find it at CM7 or somewhere, BUT it does not allow convert sd-ext to fat / fat 32

original framework-res.apk(for battery icon):http://www.multiupload.com/VRAF74HTX7
Notice:
1.This rom will be format your 2nd partition automaticlly, so you need backup your 2nd partition first.
2.I don't like deodexed system, because it will change apk's signatur, that I can not upgrade my system app for new update. And deodexed system will take more time for first booting time:every app need dexopt. So I use stock odex system.
3.Don't setup Google account until your TitaniumBackup restore job finish.
4.Some say this ROM will destroy the SD card, I have not encountered, and if SD card is not recognized in Windows, you can use Windows Computer Management -> Disk Management, assigned a drive letter for SD 1st partition, so you can see fat32 partition
5.put bootanimation.zip and shutdown.zip on /data/local will be replace BootAnimation and RebootAnimation.
Optimization Suggestion:
1.use fast SD card, class 4 or higher.
2.format SD 1st partition(fat32) with 32K cluster.
3.use setcpu overlock to 1113Mhz
4.use static wallpaper
5.use ADW Launcher
Requirement:
1.SD card with 2nd partition, 2nd partition is not less than 512M, recommend 1G for large app space and super fast. The second partition can be in any format.
2.Bravo Stock MTD(system:250M,data:150)
Installation:
use RA or ClockworkMod recovery, or ROMManager flash ownheredeisreHD_v1.6_101205.zip.
the first boot take long time(about 5-15 mins).
Feature:
1.ownhere's data2ext, get large app installation space, special for /data/data, which leave in phone memory with a2sd/a2sd+. You can install many many app with data2ext with out memory full warning.
2.ext4 loop device in ext4 partition, speed up IO.
3.kernel base htc 2.6.32.15, add BFS,GPU+,SDFIX,UnderVolt,OverClock,LZMA, thanks to richardtrip and all kernel devs. I disabled HAVS, cause of it lead phone not stable.
4.google maps 4.7.0 ownhere MOD, base on brut17 (thanks to brut.all), internationl navi.
5.ROM base on DesireHD HK RUU 1.32.832.1
6.kernel module:cifs,nfs,utf8,nilfs2,reiserfs,tun...
7.You can replace framework-res.apk with mod version(signed by testkey), because I've resigned some core app/lib for personalize battery-icon.

I want to know too.
based from a dhd rom, what have you added or taken from it? or is this just purely just a speed increase rom?
just curious.
but aside from that, is this simply a straight flash-able rom? (provided the card is partitioned) or are there other steps involved?
thanks.

When you flash this ROM, you will get data2ext automatically.
It means that how big you size your 2nd partition, you get the same size internal memory. It's just the Desire user needs.
can anyone mirror this somewhere else please?
megaupload are really really slow for me at the moment, i'm getting speeds of around 5.1-5.7KB/sec
says i've got over 10 hours to go
we need more info ...
screenshots ... kernel ... apps
then we can try it ..
+1 for Mirror ... whats up with Megaupload ... it should be called Microupload ...8)

[Q] Stock Rom + Partitions

First of all,i am really happy to announce (for those who came across with my desperate threads trying to solve my battery drain over 3G network issue) that flashing XXJPU Rom + Removing the partitions (swap + external extra storage) of my SD Card solved my problem. Battery is not draining anymore, and everything is working just fine with the stock rom.
The question is : Can i partition my SD Card again (to add internal storage, since i´ve came across the damn "Internal Storage is Nearly Full" message) ?
If yes, will i have to reflash the rom or , do anything else then just creating the partition using the Minitool software ?
Thanks in advance, and thanks again for those who tried to help me !
No need to make a new partition, extend the current one by minitool/gparted
I have o only one big partition used to store normal content. I need to make a new one to use as a extra internal storage space.. So i do need to partition it, all i need to know is if it will work and if i will have to do something else after partitioning it

If you create a partition on your SD Card as EXT2 ( i guess its EXT2 ) ,your OS will use it as internal storage.
Doing this, will solve the low internal storage issue.
I Just dont know if it works on stock roms,it does work on Kyrillos, inDroid, Sumee etc.
@OP i though u already had one partition when you said partition again
if your sd is as it is(just one partition)
then do this
flash g3mod
reboot into recovery
and partition
its the fastest way to get a partitio
then you can use an app2sd/data2sd script (system/etc/init.d)
Or if you have a card reader
use minitool/gparted to partition
shrink the existing one and make a new partiton(ext4)
and yea backup ur data, just in case!

Thanks for the reply : )
I will use minitool since i know how to use it.
After creating a EXT4 Partition, what will i need to actually tell my OS to use it as internal storage ?
Will i need to reflash rom ? Run any script (like Data2SD) ?
Also, is the Kernel or the Rom that actually recognizes the partitions and use them ?
EDIT : Hey @cdesai i just partitioned my SD using minitool creating a EXT2 Partition for internal storage upgrade.
Following again,this tutorial here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=SD_card_partitioning
Titaniun backup is not recognizing the extra space, what do i have to do now ?

Hmm.
ext4 would be a bit better but ext2 is also ok
now keep an a2sd script in /system/etc/init.d
there is a thread in dev section by kyrillos with the script and instructions, use it
or flash a custom rom which already has it
and yes you need a kernel with init.d support, but every custom kernel has that feature(cf-root,fugumod,g3mod,simplicity,etc.)

do you no where i can download it?
i already found it an read good stuff of it thanks for the help
use your sd card for more space
zerofill tar sounds to me like:
writing lots of "0" to the internal sd?
-> equal to a format of /system?
-> system is gone, mobile doesnt boot
-> all data lost?
Checked the features of kyorarom and what do I see...
Hybrid Data2SD and SD card swap
Why dont you use that feature?
Ah... I see... you didnt create an ext4 partition?
Thsi partition is needed for the feature above!
how to:
Create an ext4 partition via CWM
using this feature will move all user apps to sd card
have a fast card on your side and make a backup of your sd card data
-> all data will be lost on sd card when you repartition your card!!!!!
I think u r facing 0.0kb internal memory bug... if so flash with data.rfs
If not, go to recovery, wipe dalvik cache... format sd ext.. mount data... and mount sd ext

oh... a second please...
I remember something right now...
In my very early days (ECLAIR flashing) I remember that someone had also space 0.0 MB
And afaik the solution was to flash the CSC file (?) or something like that again...
That was the reason in these days why I flashed all (!) firmware versions from
xxjg7 to xxjk1
well... in froyo days...
I know that this posting is not very helpful, but you might find something similar with these hints in the net...
Hope this helps forward
Flashing zero fill should solve to 0.0kb problem, it formats everything on your phone, then flash a rom over it. If doesn't work, backup your SD card and format your sd ext and your whole SD card.

I'll pm you!
or i will just put it here only..
so basically what it does is that it mounts /sd-ext to /data and leaves application data in internal storage for speed..
im assuming you already know about ext partition and you have partitioned your sd card!! (if you haven't then tell me)
if you want to implement int2ext+ in a rom then download the script from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716124
extract it..now download the zip of rom you want to use and make a copy of it somwhere else in your hard disk and open it through winrar..remember do not extract it..navigate to /system/etc/int.d in winrar only and delete all everything in the folder and drag and drop the file you extracted from int2xt+ zip..it will do some working and when its finished just close it...flash this modified zip..and you will see internal memory increased in storage (150mb+the size of ext partition u have made)
EDIT:
It may happen that your rom doesn't boot ..so you make another copy of the original rom and repeat the whole procedure except that dont delete anything in init.d folder..
for example i deleted all files from init.d in cm9.1 build#9 (i dont know what will happen if i dont) and it works..i remember that i deleted all files in evervolv but it didnt boot so i copied without deleting and it booted perfectly!!
i m switch to cm9 build8 rom from jaggy,,,so need sum info.
>use tethering pc to mobile...so i can use my pc internet in my mobile???where is this option??
>i read sumwhere that titanium bckup must be avoided ...so wt i use now for my bckp and restore???

tnx a lot from vshl2995 ! your method works perfectly  i'm very happy speed and performance is really good :good::good:
just 1 Q , can you tell me if i want use another sd card ,for example 16GB sd card (i'm using 8GB sd card now) how can i do that ???
vshl2995 said:
or i will just put it here only..
so basically what it does is that it mounts /sd-ext to /data and leaves application data in internal storage for speed..
im assuming you already know about ext partition and you have partitioned your sd card!!

Oh switching sd cards can be pain in the ass.. Anyway make a partition on ur new sd card (same partition u made on ur old card) make a nandroid backup with your old sd card inserted in mobile.. This makes backup of your sd-ext partition (of course ).. Now copy the whole folder (clockworkmod folder if u are using Cwm and TWRP folder if u are using touch recovery) to your new sd card using your pc or lappy.. Be sure that your phone is switched off or in recovery mode while you are switching cards.. Now when you have copied the backup(s) to your new sd card, insert it in your phone and restore sd-ext part only.. If that doesn't work then full wipe your phone and do a full restore!! Rest of the things in your memory card you will have to copy manually through pc or you can dump your data in cloud and download when new sd card inserted..!
QUOTE=chag03;34262153]i m switch to cm9 build8 rom from jaggy,,,so need sum info.

1.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1989047
2.any backup u make from gingerbread roms will be useless.. FCs will occur due to compatibility problems.. You will have to install all apps again
3.for contact syncing fb apps itself supports it.. But I use fb contact sync app for it.. It's awesome if you want their pics to be shown in conyacts.. If you want to sync birthdays you can add your fb calender to Google calendar (if you don’t know how to do dat tell me) your Google calendar is automatically synced with ics stock calendar.
4. Now that's atrange.. Never happened with me...

[Guide]HTC Explorer as a daily driver in 2K16

Ok so maybe you have a HTC explorer in 2k16 and you want itto work with performance and you want some cool apps in it too. Well you came to the right place.
First off do all of this on your own risk am not responsible for any damage to your phone
Now stuff i be talking about in this thread are following
1. Best custom os
2. Recommended stuff
1.CUSTOM OS
The best custom os for the HTC pico is mini cm9 there is no doubt about it. i will provide the link but first let me tell you all about it and screenshots will be provided too.
Its light weight and it is all on nand. Performance is its other name
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1958152
2.RECOMMENDED STUFF
ok so now we will talk about stuff to do after installing the os. First thing you want is internal memory.
before that make sure you have a ext partition on your sd card minimum 1 gb and i recommend you to use a class 10 sd card after that go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2389501 this thread download the 40int2ext and follow instructions. Thats all for recomendations
Now let me tell you what apps am using on this rom
1. youtube
2. facebook lite
3. whatsapp
4. fb messenger
5. dr,driving
6. subway surfer
7. temple run
8. dead trigger
rest you can try for yourself
i hope i helped you and if like this rom and that script plz donate to their real owners... :good::good::good:
G(oogle)Apps
what gapps package did you use, because a package i found on the internet did not work.
I really wanna breathe new life in this phone
Thanks for this awesome thread.
One thing I never understood in those scripts, should I format my sdcard first? In recovery? In a pc (using for example mini tool partiton wizard)?
What partition scheme do you recomend?
So far I have a 4Gb SD-Card but I may buy a 8Gb Class 10 one.
Partition

Just have one partition(sd-ext4) which will be your internal memory.
Just make sure you have formatted sd card and make partition.
Install the rom and flash the script on top of it (try int2ext).
It will increase if you follow the OP.

Tried before with ext3 and ext4 partition and in recovery it says installation aborted.
Do you think it is because of partition or recovery? philz touch recovery.

Thanks, working fine now.
Regardless of which ROM or recovery i'm on, my device reboots randomly after some times(even after a thorough clean flash). Tried almost all of the ROMs .....but nothing worked. Posted my problems in other appropriate threads too.....but didn't get any reply. Finally tried mini Cm9.......but still it has random reboots.........any help is appreciated :good::good::good:

ok random reboots i once had them too there are two reasons for this problem and there are two solutions so dont worry
1. problem with batery:
pull out the back case and clean the battery terminals with alcohol and do the same with terminals on phone. now without putting the battery in press the power button for 10sec after that put the battery back in and voila nomore reboots.
if not then continue
2. problem with kernal:
it can also be caused by a faulty kernal so i will recomend that you flash a custom kernal. and to be frank try one of arsalan kirmani kernals those are stable
hope i helped :good::good::good:

I've tried different kernels in the past...but none helped....can you suggest one specifically ?? I only have a 4 gb memory card....so creating 3 partitions is not a good idea. I mostly rely on ICS ROMs. So any suggestions ?

Try without memory card. In the past I had one Nokia with problems like you describe and it was the memory card.
I had 4gb Class 4 with Fat32 and EXT partition without problems. Now I just upgraded to 32Gb Class10 for 9eur because I mainly use my explorer as mp3 player.
Using this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1876466 (MIUI cm9 based) with int2ext like this thread suggests and it is ok

MIUI rom is good, it don't have any problem of random reboots.. it is hardware problem... or try 2.3.5 android roms once.. before that format sd card and make perfect partition then change to default recovery and wipe everything which are necessary then flash a rom.. it may or may not works but give a try..
