Keepin' it clean by keepin' smooth...
Ok finally after a few days of using my phone it has finally leveled off. My phone has been off the charger since 6am and I am at about 70% charged. Couldn't ask for more out of a smart phone. This is right in line with my Nexus One so I am no longer disappointed.
There are a few tweaks I did make to get this working this way.
(1) Screen brightness set at about 20% - The TB's screen is way to bright to begin with and making this adjustment is something that is not very hard to get used to.
(2) Screen Time out at 30 seconds - Setting to low will get frustrating if you like reading the news on your phone or browsing the web, 30 seconds seems just right for me.
(3) WIFI when not in car (triggered on and off by loss of Blue Tooth Connection and Not In Dock) Using WiFi instead of relying on your data connection will help save some juice while in a WiFi enabled building since your phone will not be trying to constantly search and connect to a data connection.
(4) Blue tooth off until docked - Saves battery by not transmitting a BT signal constantly. I only use Bluetooth in the car so triggered by the dock seemed logical.
(5) Syncing Facebook every 8 hours, News every 12 hours and Stocks (Who really needs this)
(6) I love widgets on my home screens so these get updated as I found necessary to me. Im not a major facebooker that needs to be on the bleeding edge of everyones life so 8 hours is probably even too much but adequate. News doesnt really update very often and compared to a daily news paper 12 hours is more than ample. Stocks, need I say more seriously I am not an investor and could care less.
(7) Over clocking your phone is not necessary right now, 1 GHZ is definitely more than you need on this phone. I am scoring about 1700 on quadrant which is pretty good for a 1ghz phone. My phone has never lagged and has functioned as expected since birthed to my hand. Keep in mind Over clocking will increase the performance of your phone but will tear at your battery as well and may cause heating issues.
(8) Not using an animated wallpaper. Even on my nexus one this was a major contributer to poor battery and phone performance. Animated wallpapers are very often poorly programmed or simply over bloated. Not too mention on the severe end of the priority list of needs. All though cool.
I am not over clocking or installing a custom rom on my phone quite yet because honestly the roms are not stable enough as expected this close to birth, and really don't offer any additional functionality that I find very useful as of yet. I am using Tasker to accomplish a few automated switching routines to toggle WIFI and Bluetooth. I am also using Folder Organizer to keep my apps categorized in a humane manor. I am a widget-aholic and have not really found a downside to having too a lot of widgets running.
How much do you use your phone a day?
Not everyone is willing to cut out their social networking. A big part of smartphones now is always being connected. This includes social networking, sharing pictures, sharing locations... some people get into all of this and some do not.
Also, some people like weather updates, stock updates, news updates, etc. Everyone uses their device differently to fit their needs.
I think it is common sense that the more services you use which consume radio/data/processing time then the quicker you will drain your battery.
Thank you for sharing the setup that works for you and affords you such great battery life. I have been having great battery life too. I am currently not in a 4G LTE area, but the device on 3G has been great on battery. You would never know there are any "issues" if people did not post about them!
What is your uptime, display on time, and partial wake usage?
I didn't check that deep in to it, but I had it plugged in to some speakers at work for about 3.5 hours playing slacker radio from wifi so I could rock at work. I used the phone to call tech support for my wifes phone which took a while and other shorter calls through out the day. Right now my up time is about 65 hours, awake time is at 26 hours. Not sure where to get partial awake. My display on timer only says 1 min. But honestly today was not a big phone use day and it sat in the dock on the ride home so all those stats are irrelevant today. But still my battery it at 83%. A lot of people were complaining about there phones dying with no or little use half through the day. So hopefully this brings a little light to the end of the tunnel.
Dang what were your settings

I've been getting great battery life as well, got 36 hours on my last charge. Have Perfect Storm 1.0, trip's 1.5ghz oc kernel (but don't actually run it that high). I have SetCPU set at 998/245 for normal, 245/245 for screen off and use smartass governor. I was also using my phone a moderate amount but had the 4g turned off as I'm in between 3g and 4g so it just keeps dropping and switching.
Glad to see someone is getting decent life.. I'm about to set a record for battery death.. phone has been on for 1 hour and 20 minutes and down to 65%.
On the bright side I am getting 20mbps down here at school.. SDSU..

Yah.. I am surfing pretty heavily though.. down to 58% now..
Guess ill have to sit in a different seat for the rest of the classes.. I see power outlets along the walls
It sucks though because on the Droid x, I could surf during the whole 3 hr class and walk out with 50% left.. guess this is the price you pay for this kinda power and speed lol
from 6am to 2pm phone is dead
music for a hour and half while on airplane mode
3g only
gps,bluetooth,wifi off
half hour of web browsing on 4G
about 15 messages on live Profile app
about 40 text messages
auto sync and background data off
One thing I dont understand is..When my phone is idle the battery is still draining.
6am to 6pm...
3g only (off when not using it)
gps,bt, wifi - off
games for about half an hour...
a couple calls
>20 txts
screen at 15%ish
autosync and background data off...
and now i'm at...89%
I have also found that in the first couple of days (2 or 3 days) after a reset... the phone does a BUNCH of funky things. First night after a reset...VZwireless said at 3AM i had 130MB of transfer... not possible - i was sleeping. it wasn't me. but...i did wake up with >30% of the battery gone. I think the background data off is a good place to start...but definitely wait after a couple of days.
I seem to be getting about 36 hours of up time on a charge. Mostly on wifi at home/work. I have 4G turned off as its not available here yet.

Ok.. 4 hrs .. done for ... Did make it through class.. 8% left
There will be a patch soon to help with the idle 4G battery drain. Lady on the phone told me its in the works. Either way I just got the extended battery today. I actually dont mind the extra size.
Hmm... whats the anecdotal battery life for an extended battery given these settings? I've gotten to the point of running my display at 5% when indoors ==;;;
Also, I've heard of people getting free or heavily discounted extended batteries.... Any tips for this?
I am using an app called fastbright which really helps with the display battery drain...I just use it o bright when i cant see if i am outside....post #10!!! yay!
I've used my phone a decent amount today and battery is still at 62%. Running Das bamf at 1.2 ghz and screen brightness at 100%

I feel the same way... if you are playing around on the tb while it is pluged in it will take a good 4-6 hours to charge to 100%
Hello all! As you can tell, I am new here, but have been 'stalking' the forums regarding the Galaxy Tab more so the Tab 2 7" version. My husband and I just picked up two at our local Walmart last night. We had the Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0 for a while and that was a fun little device, however I found myself wanting a slightly bigger screen. I have been researching a lot regarding tablets and kept running into the Galaxy Tab 2. Battery life standard, according to reviews anyway, has been roughly 7 - 8 hours. That sounds pretty good to me and I am sure I can get better. The standard for the player was roughly 6 hours and I could make it last days, depending on what I was doing obviously. However, I notice that simply turning my device on today after charging fully, once the Samsung screen passes and there is the home screen, I am at 98% or 99%. Is this normal? I am somewhat new to Droid and tablets in general though I learned quite a bit during my time with the player, I may simply be paranoid, haha. Did I make a good choice going with the Tab 2?
P.S. I do apologize if I could have found information regarding the battery life elsewhere.. I found posts regarding battery draining over night, but nothing (that I saw) regarding life after simply turning it on.
Yup seems normal enough to me , I have had mine for nearly 4 weeks and i dont think its ever been a true 100% , even after a full charge.
Obviously the battery will last as long as you use it. If you have all the features on the battery will drain. I'm really glad i purchased my SGT2 7 . I gets better the more i use it and understand it.
This forum is a god send for information !
Its because of the way charging works. It can't just keep pumping juice into the battery otherwise it would damage it, so when it hits 100 it will let it start discharging, even though it still says charging. It will let it discharge until it gets down a few percent and then it will top it back up. This is why you unplug and it shows 99 or 98 or whatever.

If you're turning off the tablet to charge it, and it is unplugged when you turn it on, it will drain the battery booting up. The system sees fairly high CPU usage during boot, plus the screen is on constantly while starting up, so you could loose 1-2%, depending on how long it takes and how long it was sitting unplugged. I generally never shut off my tablet, and always charge it running, so I've seen it sit at 100% for some time.

Hey you can try the app called battery repair it worked for me.if stil not working get the battery replaced
Its normal that it is 99% or 98%. Try DS Battery Saver. I use it on both my devices and when screen is off only about 1 or 2% will be gone after night, even qhen not charging.
Hey guys! Long time Android user, current phone is a Nexus 6 on Project Fi. Bought my K1 a couple days ago but I have some questions. Appreciate any help I can get.
Does the K1 support quick charging/2.0 amp chargers? If not am I harming the battery by using one? Tried to search this and read answers that said both yes and no. Anyone know for sure.
No matter what charger I use the K1 seems to charge very slow, even when it's powered off, any way to improve that?
Battery drains really fast. I noticed that there are different power modes that might help this. I switched from Max performance to optimized to see if it would help but didn't do much. I bought the K1 to play VainGlory on it so I don't want to sacrifice power for battery. Any tips to improve this?
The physical power and volume buttons are barely accessible to touch. Is my K1 defective or are the buttons supposed to be like that. I'm wondering if the shell got shifted or something.
When I use my Bluetooth headset with the K1 the sound only comes out of the left earpiece. When I plug in with wired headphone its fine. Do I have to change a setting for the Bluetooth ones to work fully?
When I first powered up the K1 I got a prompt telling about screen recording or something along those lines but I can't remember how to use it. Is it an app or built in feature?
Is there a way to keep the on screen buttons on the bottom bar in that location when I turn the screen into landscape mode? On my Nexus the buttons just turn and the bar stays in same place. On the K1 when I turn it the bar moves to the bottom of the screen.
Wasn't going to root it but if anything I have listed can be improved or fixed by root I might have to.
TIA
Hi,
I self are a pretty new K1 User (a bit longer than a week). So some good questions.
On Android 6.0 there is a known bug about the loading of the battery. Some say that even when they loading the battery and using there K1 a bit more heavy the battery state get lower than higher, what didn't happen on Android 5.x. But I don't know if that change the complete loading times even when the K1 is off.
How fast is the battery drained on your k1? I also read that some user had bad luck with his k1 battery and after they changed the device it was much better. But first we need to know how fast it goes down at your K1, so we could say it is normal or not.
Badly I must say the button are normal, they are so bad, on all K1.
I had stereo on my bluetooth headset and I didn't saw that much settings for bluetooth, don't know if you can do anything. Hope a other user can say something about that.
Hm, that recording feature, I saw this too but I deactive it instandly, didn't need it on the Tab (but on my PC). Good question where I could find it manually. Don't know where NVidia hide it, can't find it.
Didn't saw a setting for the button bar it to change that, sorry. Different Launcher App?
Miscellaneous is listed under my battery settings as taking up 44%! Wtf is that about?
Strange, i didn't have anything with "Miscellaneous" on the list with a that high usage, only WLAN 6%, Display 2%, Standby 2%, Android 1% and Bluetooth 1%. But don't forget, this list shows only the usage since the last charging, not the actual status.
But a good question what "Miscellaneous" could be, an App?
Basically miscellaneous is the difference between what Android calculates your battery usage should be, and what it actually is.
This is my observation:
Using graphics intensive games makes this number climb drastically. Basically anything that uses all cores in the processor, or heavy gpu is going to see this.
Lots of people have complained about it but I don't know if anyone has actually clicked on it and read the description other than me.
The other complaint people associate with this is that one, or several cores are often locked at 100%. I don't have this problem so can't speak on it, but I doubt the miscellaneous thing is the cause, but rather an effect
Sent from my SHIELD Tablet K1 using Tapatalk
My battery last around 7h according to GSam Battery Monitor. With a rather inexpensive 2.4A quickcharger it takes around 3h to fully charge in my case.
The problem of locking a core in 100% is connected to logd. If you have rooted your phone you can just find and kill that process... when logd is restarted it is back to normal. Without root, you probably have to reboot your phone.
That sounds like me for charge time if I'm using it while charging. Otherwise I charge in a little less than 3 hrs. As for battery life it makes a big difference what I'm doing to determine. Playing Minecraft PE I get about 3:30 screen on before I hit 15%. Watching Netflix or just browsing the web I get almost 5 hrs

I just recently acquired a Shield Portable, and I'm learning the ropes as to the best recipe to achieve a balance of power and stability.
So far, I baked the following basic recipe which went well.
Unlocked the Bootloader
Flashed TWRP Recovery
I didn't flash SuperSU 2.49 since CM 12.1 should have root built-in which can be activated in Developer Tools, though I did'nt confirm this with the Shield CM ROM.
Flashed Roth Firmware 1.6 update (not necessary if you already had the stock 106 update installed)
Flashed CM12.1 Nightly, not interested in Android Marshmallow at the moment
Flashed Open GApps ARM 5.1 Micro
Installed all the official relevant Nvidia Shield apps from the Play Store
Installed the Moonlight Game Streaming App from the Play Store
From the little streaming I did with this configuration, it did work nicely, though I have nothing to compare to. I've since flashed to a Stock 106 update, and I'm currently tooling around with that.
Post up your favorite concoction of ROM, tweaks, apps, etc., which would be a great reference for those just getting into the Shield Portable.
Upgraded the cells in mine to Fenix 3200mah 18650 cells. Did away with the stock battery compartment since the batteries are a little longer/thicker (after all you can't just simply magically jam 3200mah cells in there and call it a day). I have tested these on an external charge/discharge circuit before placing into the Shield and the capacity is actually accurate.

This sounds interesting. A few questions.
How many batteries needed for replacement?
Do the new batteries fit into the Shield without having to modify the case?
How many hours of game play do you get from the new batteries, and is it a considerable improvement over the stock batteries?
I might just upgrade my batteries, since I plan on opening my Shield to do the D-Pad silence/sticky fix. According to this YouTube video, if you switch the D-Pad and Button Pad membranes, it gets rid of that annoying D-Pad clicking sound, and helps reduce any sticking.

1) 3 cells total. This is an expensive replacement, at least with being in Canada, and being sold in single-cell only these add up quick.
2) The new batteries fit snugly in place and being held in by shrink wrap and electrical tape - the battery enclosure is the only thing missing since they are too big for it, the case does not require any modification. They take up all the space and fit snugly, but still offer space for airflow. The testbench yielded results of the cells barely warming up during quicker loading and offloading than what the Shield could produce, so they're safe.
3) Not enough extensive testing yet (as I had just calibrated the system as of 3 hours ago), but so far I've been playing Grand Theft Auto (VC) and Asphalt 8, and have noticed drain from 100% to 83 in 2½ hours, though "Android System" and "Screen On" seem to be taking the most battery. I've had WiFi on and updates were installing while playing games. The Shield can't really do two things at once
3a.) I've noticed that the shield suffers from residual apps or processes not quitting properly (in background for some unknown reason) so the fans keep spinning to keep CPU cool while in "standby" (this is what kills the battery the most), but am uncertain which "cleaner" suite would suit it best (and not be a placebo). So far I've got CCleaner but it's vague and don't want to purchase "pro" until further research is done. The alternative is to completely turn it off when not in use, but having encrypted storage, this isn't ideal.

Thanks for the reply. Ya, that's quite an expensive upgrade, though worth it if your batteries are dying, or it gets you a few more hours game time.
In the States, that upgrade would cost me about $45.
I streamed some video on my Nvidia Portable, and posted the results below, in case you want to compare your battery life to mine in order to use as a gauge to compare your new battery upgrade to stock batteries.
My Nvidia Portable was purchased used, I would say it was moderately used.
Below is what I set my Nvidia Portable to for the hour stream.
OS: Stock Nvidia OS with update 106
Batteries: Charged to 100%
Screen Brightness: 100%
Volume: 50% (headphones plugged in)
Bluetooth: Off
Stream: via WiFi
Duration: 1 hour
Service Used: YouTube
Video Streamed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPD0ezmvdNE
The 1 hour stream used 9% of my battery life.
I posted a screenshot below showing my battery meter at the end of the 1 hour duration.

I got -16% from 72% charge. Two things going on here:
1) Device is uncertain (needs further calibration). As of now, the Shield has had 10h of "on-time" between YouTube, "battery test", and various games. Am certain it's a calibration issue. Battery was showing a negative amount of time remaining, restarted, and now it shows about 45mins. I was gaming for 20 minutes and only 3% gone (after reset). GTA is a resource hog.
2) WiFi issues. Just recently fixed a WiFi configuration issue. For some strange reason one of my AP's decided to revert to the same channels/settings as the other, thus resulting in interference or devices fighting. This may have resulted in greater radio usage. As soon as this was mitigated, everything else actually decided to update in proper order. The issues caused the device to freeze a few times (perhaps it was working too hard).
3) Location data was set to full on. Everything was trying to sync or update at once (or kept trying) but couldn't due to previous WiFi issues.
4) Not the same setup as you, yours is probably more efficient due to "things running" in my case. Also 5.x might be more battery friendly, on top of CM optimizations that clearly aren't there in NVidia's builds.
I'm ignoring the 5.x update because I paid for more than a couple games that supposedly won't run/unsupported on the updated image (or at least, according to the update info). Much as I also don't approve Apple, I've never heard of Apple "apps" having this sort of shenanigans compared to Google, a little disappointed with that.
Ideally I'd like to throw CM on this and get rid of a LOT of things and keep literally just Google Play for games only and Nvidia software (or perhaps Kainy) for streaming. But would like to do this with a stable 4.4 build on something that doesn't bug me about 5.x updates.
Realistically, I've never had the display set above 25%, WiFi doesn't always need enabled. I've been thinking of pairing to BT module because it uses a ton less energy, and play thru device speakers, are usually set to 15% because for sensitive ears, that's loud
I have received my P6a yesterday..
And I can feel device getting warm with normal use like WhatsApp, Phone call & Instagram...
Can feel device getting warm even when I'm using Wi-Fi..
It starts heating(because it's more than just warm) when charging...

When my Pixel 4 XL overheated, it was usually because I was charging and playing games on it at the same time. If it gets hot, then I would reboot it or leave it powered off for a minute. Could that be the case here?
Also, this is a new phone and you just installed a bunch of apps. My guess is that Android is likely evaluating and learning your habits so that it can optimize your battery and other stuff -- so there's alot of internal processing going on causing it to warm up.
Also, if you live in a city where the weather is warm or hot, then that'll make your phone warm or hot as well. So far, my 6a hasn't stayed warm very long except when I was transferring over/installing all my apps ... and it hasn't gotten hot yet.
The phone does get very warm, but it is also the middle of summer and we just set everything up. Tensor is also known for running on the toasty side. Unless your phone is warning you about excessive heat, it is within normal parameters.
it runs definitely warmer than a pixel 4 doing the same stuff.
I have sensor genius installed so it's logging temp 24/7. please do the same and let's share the graphs.
Mine is running substantially cooler using LTE rather than 5g, hopefully this is fixed through software updates.
I also put mine in LTE mode and it's much cooler. 5G is a bit overkill for mobile stuff at least for me, I just turn it on when using hotspot.
Ok, finally experienced the heating issue just doing normal browsing on LTE. Battery temp got up to around 43c on a cool day with no sunlight.
After some searching I found that turning off adaptive connectivity helps. After turning that off, temps are much better. I was in an area with poor signal so that likely was a part of it, but something else to try.

Another option to try is Disable Adaptive Battery, Disable 5G(If not necessary)..
I wouldn't worry too much. I absolutely assassinated my Pixel 3a XL. It was always hot. For couple of years. Huge amounts of onscreen time. Leaving it under blankets while charging on accident etc etc... Thing was fine. Also, a battery is only $12 and these pixels the easiest phones to open if you do somehow end up with severely reduced battery life couple years down the road
It's more the insane battery drain that goes along with the heat then the heat itself.
May be a CPU usage app that tracks what's taking up so much processor power.
My issue went away once I turned off adaptive connectivity.

Same. As in my country there is no 5G yet, I've changed to LTE preferred and phone is not hot anymore and battery doesn't drain.
It'd maybe gimp the overall performance some but u could try under-clocking your CPUs with FKM or EXKM while u track down the issue. (that is, if your bootloader is unlocked...in which case u could use BBS to track battery usage)
