I have bought Asus TF700T 64GB recently, but found there is one BIG dirt/dust under the screen.
After that I returned to the company, and they exchanged another new unit.
But for the second unit, it's also got dust under screen, this time it's 6pcs small dust under screen, and quite noticeable...
The company ask me to contact Asus personally, as they already help me to exchange it for the first time...
Any idea Asus will change a new unit to me? Or need to wait few weeks to repair/service? (bought less than 1 week)
Anyone know Asus got QC problem? 2 units with dust under screen...
Anyone face the same problem?
Thank you for reading.

Not to sure what Asus will do or how long it will take. But I can say I also have something trapped in between the Gorrila glass and screen , and Now am having an electronic burning smell coming from speaker holes on the back . Have only had it a week. Will try to exchange mine as well
You could probably open it up to get the dust out but it's generally not an advisable thing to do.

Like the previous poster said ,is possible but not advisable as you have high chances to break the glass or screen.I did some repair myself on a few devices and is not easy to remove a glued glass like that (at least i guess is glued as i can't see any other way) and even after repair succed the final result is not like the original. Also if is glued you will need to use a hair dryer or a heat cannon and these tools alone are enogh to cause some serious damage to the screen...is your call buddy, but is better waitting (yeah i know is hard) than break it and loose your money.

On my tf700, I have four dusts under the screen!
The worst is that I noticed that just before leaving on vacation!
I can't believe this ****!
Unacceptable for a 600 euros tablet....
Very disappointed with asus!!

Yes, it's unacceptable... As the price is not cheap.
I think ASUS got QC problem on their tablet. We have spend a lot for the premium quality, but they seems don't care about this...
Just hope ASUS will read this post!
Anyway, I love android~~~
Dust under mine as well. At first I thought it was a dead pixel, but its a nice black dot that sits slightly above the lcd so I guess its dust. At least its not in the center. Mine may be going back for other reasons anyway. Wonder if the next one will be worse...
Hi all,
It seems Asus has some serious quality issues. The first TF700T I got had one dead pixel, few dots of dust under the screen and dock didn't fit. The second had three dead pixels and clicking sound on the left side of the screen (while pressing back & home buttons, really irritating!). The third one is almost perfect, but has two little dots of dust in the left upper & lower corner - I thought these are dead pixels, but they don't disapper while the screen is off, so I guess it is dust or some other thing between glass and LCD screen. I think I will stick with that one, as dock is working, no annoying clicking and no dead pixels. If you use your tablet you will get a lot of dust on the screen very quickly, so I won't bother so much about dust or dead pixels. Anway I'm little disappointed with the quality of Asus tablets. Below you can see how it looks like. The screen is off, red arrow indicates dust dot under the screen, other white dots is regular dust on the screen (which you will get anyway after 1-2 minutes of usage!).

Sorry mate but i'm not fully agree with you, imo you should replace that... I also "closed an eye" on the "clicking issue" and some other cosmetic defects but for no reason i would accept your issue. The screen is maybe the best and most expensive part of this tablet so yes, when you buy it the screen should be crystal clear, think about lt.
Also is not true that after some time you will get dust under the screen for sure, not with a good quality device.

Hi, I get your point, but how many times should I replace my device so I can finally play with it ? Some people replaced it 5-6 times and at the end they got device with worse issues. I think this two small dots are acceptable because you will get dust on your screen very quickly (not under the screen, but on top of it) and the visual effect is the same. After few minutes I stopped noticing it. So sure, I can replace it once again, but I'm simply afraid I will get more faulty device and I'm also tired of sending it to the store once again. It has been almost two weeks I paid for this device and I still didn't have an opportunity to play with it, so I think I won't risk replacing it again
PS. I also forgot to mention really bad light bleed that was present in the first two tabs, this one also has it, but on acceptable level. Anyway it is really annoying you need to be lucky to get fault-free tablet.

First things first: the LCD is still fully functional, no broken pixels or the "shattered LCD" bug in TF3d. The "distortion" does not appear under all lighting conditions --- it's actually impossible to see in areas with high contrast lighting (ie: lots of bright and dark areas such as daylight or most rooms), but becomes quite visible in flat/even lighting (like a bathroom or narrow hallway).
The distortion shifts in response to relatively heavy pressure, but always returns to the same "shape" as seen in the picture.
I am using the included screen protector, but I have removed it to confirm it is a problem with the LCD and not the protector.
I'm tempted to say that this has happened suddenly, but given that I've been using my TPro in anything but flat/even lighting conditions, I can't say for sure; I only happened to spot it by chance today. And just to be clear, I haven't dropped the unit, gotten it wet, or anything drastic like that. It's an expensive gadget! (And all the more reason something like this bugs me )
For reference, my unit is:
Model RAPH100

Have you been moving between warm and cold environments? I'm wondering if it's condensed moisture inside the cover. I'd keep it somewhere warm and dry overnight, see if it's different.
Lucky me, just had a quick look at my screen & its all good...
that seams something between the lcd and the screen protector
That my friend is a result of high pressure damage. Its actually between the Touch sensitive layer and the LCD screen.
It could have been caused at anytime but is usually a result of carrying in a pocket, tight trousers or sitting down and compressing the phone, especially in a car seat.
It's something that many suffer from on many brands of touch screen phones but never really notice until screen touch sensitivity becomes erratic in certain screen areas.
Difficult one to prove it was from supplier or damaged by user so only way to RMA it (if you want to) is if you have had it less than a week.

Nope, nothing out of the ordinary. I had thought about condensation too, but nothing seems to indicate that it would be the culprit.

I guess that's what I'm afraid of, although for the life of me I can't believe I would've put my TPro through high pressure damage. Sure I carry it in my pocket, but we're talking about loose-fitting jeans, and only the front pocket (I would never dream of pitting it in the back pocket).
Sadly I've had it for much longer than a week, so I suppose all I can do is hope that it doesn't get worse.

Nahh, know the most likely way of getting high pressure damage like that? Pushing too hard on the screen when applying the screen protector, trying to force all of the bubbles out. I've seen people use those little squeegees or a credit card or something, forcing down on the screen so hard and trying to move the bubbles to the outside... Usually it's dust under the screen protector that causes the bubbles, and a user on here gave me a tip to use double sided tape on the back of the screen protector where it's bubbling to remove the dirt/dust. Be careful when applying those, they can be a pain, but force won't help.
By the way, that's a kick ass picture, must be a nice camera or you're quite the photographer. Look closely at the distortion, not to try to make it seem worse but it looks really cool in the pic, I'm surprised you were able to catch that. Now, back to mourning...

Good point, although in my case I imagine it would have happened when I first got my TPro and applied the screen protector, and not a whole month later.

Both, though I wouldn't really call myself a pro photographer. But I do have a bit of an eye for detail, which is why this is bugging me.
Does anyone know specifically which component is causing the abberation? The LCD still seems to work just fine so I imagine it's just the touch-resistive layer, and if that's the case I might consider replacing it myself. I have no problems working with electronics -- the only real concern I have is breaking the VOID sticker. But I'm in no hurry, I'm just trying to see what options there are.

Thanks for the link. It might be good to keep user experiences together since the Diamond and Pro (for all intents and purposes) have the same screen.
Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the Diamond and Pro HTC's first devices to have flush-mounted displays (instead of recessed)? Is it maybe a problem that HTC just has a design flaw?
This oil patch problem was also seen in the O2 Atom. I returned mine and had a replacement. Many others returned theirs. t is highly likely a manufacturing deffect. The Atom was also a VGA screen May be linked to the technology in small screens. Just return your faulty units.
Dont yas think that is the screen protector. Try to strip it off and have a look at the screen of the HTC itself again

Did you return it via your reseller or directly through HTC? I've already had my TPro for well over a week so I can't return it to my reseller without a restocking fee (nevermind paying for international shipping), and I'm dubious as to how HTC America will handle a device imported from UK.
I have same "oil spot" under the touch layer on my Himalaya. I don't knowmhow it appears, but I know, that appears after 1 year apx. Anyway the touchscreen is working without problem. It is just a cosmetic fault. Anyway, try to replace it by your vendor.
You sure it's not a manta ray wallpaper?
Sorry.
My other half had this on the Diamond. We sent it back under warranty and it got lost in the post. Some fool hadn't sent it registered. Thank goodness for insurance policies.

I agree with the screen protector but don't discount the pocket problem out of hand!
How many cracked screens have you seen from applying a screen protector?
I've seen two screens cracked on different devices from been crushed in peoples pockets!
Well, I think cracks most times are from a hard impact (walking into the corner of a table with the phone in your pocket, or maybe carrying a huge subwoofer for your new home theater system and letting it slide down so the corner hits your thigh right where your phone is)... I've done both of those. But something like we're seeing here is not from a single impact, but from constant pressure for a certain length of time. That's why I discount the pocket theory in my mind, I don't think a single impact could do this, but a constant pressure sure as hell could. Either way, he said it just showed up a month after first use, so I don't know if it could be from the screen protector.

Anyone else have the problem of the screen lifting?
I have only had the phone a few weeks, never dropped it.

Then I can press it down:
But it creeps back up.
I read a post that a high capacity battery, which is slightly larger, can force this to happen. Are you using the standard battery or a replacement high capacity one?
Standard battery.
I even tried keeping the screen and case clamped together over night. (very carefully obviously!)
It stayed normal slightly longer than when you just press it, but did still rise back up.
Got the exact same problem, also never dropped, and tried the exact same solution.
It's not that the case is bent, so it must be the screen flexing and lifting from the band of adhesive that holds it in. My worry is that it will get worse. I can even insert a slip of paper between the frame and the screen on one side, for about a quarter of the length on the right hand side towards the bottom (so 5 O clock if it was a clock face.) But the actual corner I can't get a slip of paper under, so the problem on mine is more the latter part of the lower side of the screen on the right.
I'm often tempted to lift it more and try to put in a tiny blob of glue or to try to smuggle glue in using a bit of paper as a delivery method, but my fear is a) smears and b) that releasing the screen any more than is necessary in order to get glue in will cause the adhesive to fail more - and the glue might not work anyways. Superglue is a no-no by the way, it'd be more something like UHU or Bostik.
But if it gets worse... Let me know if you're brave enough to try.
PS
I've not contacted HTC to ask for a swap - this phone is a swap and I just don't fancy the rigmarole again. But you might ask them.
I have seen other thread on XDA with other devices that have done this.
I mean the buttons and everything works perfectly, seems daft to send it back for this, but then it IS a fault.
I did wonder if it was a heat issue? I have noticed that when you play a game on it for a while, holding it it does get warm...does this make the adhesive soft and flex??
One possible thing that makes the glue not so strong is high temperature. I have 2 Sensations before Desire S, and i was disapointed from that phone because of the poor glue quality on the display. In the first one i have dust under digitizer and display and the second one have the same problem as your Desire S. The only way to fix this is to open the phone, remove the digitizer with display (without separate them), buy 2mm 3M Sticker and put new sticker on the places that are not fitting good. It is not so hard but if you want to do that you need to be VERU CAREFUL with the display because it's very thin and you can broke it. On Youtube you can find few dissembling video for desire s. Good luck!!
The science of expansion and contraction? You can try leaving it in your refrigerator awhile and see what happens

I have this problem, and still do have this problem. It used to really urk me off at first, but I've since learn to live with it unfortunately.
The right side of the bottom of the display is worse than the left side, but the left side has a 0.2mm gap between the screen and the casing, right where the USB port is (only visible when the battery cover is removed and light is shining through the back) (I also believe the creaking case comes from near this area).
Once again, it used to frustrate me to all hell seeing it, but I've learned to live with it.

You are all making me tempted to get the UHU out
Mine is the same.
But i have noticed it since it came out from the box...
Thankfully I've not experienced this problem, but I will throw a couple of ideas into the pot for interest:
(1) If I remember correctly, applying heat is part of the official method for removing the glass screen from the body during the repair process. This suggests that the DS may be much more vulnerable when hot.
(2) Don't even think of using superglue (cyanoacrylate) for glueing the glass back. This stuff seems to have a volatile component that can mist up displays or windows some distance away (as I previously discovered to my cost on another project).
I also suffer from this symptom, and have done out of the box. I've noticed that if you rub from the body onto the glass on the top of the phone it's flush, whereas on the bottom there is a definite rise on the glass. I can also push the glass down on the bottom corners. But they always rise up again instantly. I'd be surprised if this wasn't the case with every desire s.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
Had the same issue since day one, in April, only that with me it was the lower right corner, not as dramatic as the one in the picture though. Also had a gap between the screen gasket and the body of the frame (one could stick a thick sheet of paper through);
I sent the phone to the warranty center and got it back a few days later with a crappy statement that the manufactury/ assembly issues i reported are not considered faults...
So i sealed the gap with fine black silicone paste (just a tricle) and learned to live with the risen screen corner.
After discovering the faults with my phone I checked with other handsets at every dealer I came across and guess what? about 1/3 of the terminals examined with my now "expert" eye have one or several of the issues mentioned in this thread.
I think the phone was rushed into production and somebody screwed big time in the Quality Control department before it was released for mass production.
So you can complain to the HTC call-center and try to have the handset replaced. If you get a replacement, so much the better. Good luck!
Interesting to hear so many people suffering from it.
May just learn to live with it as it does sound like a common fault, and sending it back may be a waste of time!
The issue for me is if it gets worse as I know it wasn't there originally (having read a post about it and checked my phone carefully.) Four months later....
Part of me doesn't want the faff of sending it back...

Ok so I am not alone on this. Had the same issue but not to the extent in the pics attached, mine was a little loose on the bottom right corner, if pressed made a creaking/squeaking sound, if kept pressed for a few seconds, would get fixed for a few hours.
How I inadvertently fixed it is by forgetting my phone in direct sunlight for a good 30-40 mins, must have been 35-40 Celsius out around 2 PM. When I remembered and retrieved my phone from my terrace it was considerably hot, just turned it on to check if the phone was alright, must have pressed down due to force of habit but I think the glue stuck for good that time.
Never squeaked since then.
By no means is this a way to fix your phone but it worked for me by chance.
Edit:
Damn HTC for their shabby build quality.
So what happens if I apply a hairdryer to the screen? Good idea, bad idea?

Don't think it's a good idea. Try getting HTC to do something about it, if they could take it off and reapply the screen with the required adhesive.
Earlier today I left it by my laptop fan and it got very hot, held the screen down after and it did stick back for longer, but did creep up again... luckily the heat didn't damage my done I may email o2 as there support is better than htc's! They replaced my screen in my old HD2 last year no problems.

Hi, I recently got a TF300 and so far I love it (for the most part). I am still on the stock ROM and am thinking of rooting and going custom soon, I just cant be bothered with the backup and restore really.
What I'd like to know is if the build quality on everyone's tab is the same.
I have a blue one, with the keyboard dock and I bought from Comet in the UK.
When I use the pad un-docked, there is a noticeable creakyness to the edges of the bezel. On the right side of the screen, and the bottom - just where the dock alignment arrow is, i feel as if I can push the edges up and down like a sponge. Its almost as if the screws arent tightened enough to hold it together properly. It is not a major issue, but it does really bug me because I paid £400 for this gadget.
I also notice that there is a dip in the keyboard, around the letters JKL.
Please tell me if other people have the same thing or if I'm the only one, because if that is the case i'd feel inclined to return and exchange it.
Many Thanks

Confirming the creakyness on the bottom edge, near the usb port. Not quite like a sponge, but it's noticeable during regular use. Also, if you look really carefully you can see between the black bezel and the silver margin, right under the dock arrow. It doesn't seem worth it to return the tablet over something like this, but it's a little bit disappointing at this price range.

I can confirm this, mine has had the same creakyness. Only mine had it on the top and left side. It annoyed me alot. What i eventually did to fix it might not be for everyone though. I took of the back-cover and used some household masking-tape in very thin slices around the areas on the edges inside of the back.cover. No more creakyness
But I have also read about some people turning theirs inn and getting a new one without the creaky back-cover.
I was also slightly disappointed that there is some creaky movement on the casing of my TF300T. It almost feels like I could pop the back off at the top right corner.

I don't feel any creakyness. It must be my girlie arms. No offense to girls.
I certainly can feel the creekyness between the back plate and the screen. It turns out, the back plate is EASILY removable and is only held on by a few clips, no screws. You can actually take it off without voiding your warantee , the void sticker is on a sheet of copper beneath the back plate over the cpu, nand chip etc.
I actually made an aluminum plate for mine, at a machine shop I work at.
I think the flimsyness is a result of using plastic for the back plate. I expect some time soon to see some manufacturers start selling decent metal plates for the tablet. Overall I am pleased with the build quality though. If your corners seem especially loose try gently squeezing them against the back plate. They might be slightly popped out.

Is there any tutorial that shows how to take off the back plate? If so, are there any screws under there that hold on the front of the tablet? It just feels as if a couple of screws might be loose that need tightened up... kinda like what ppl were complaining about on the Nexus 7... and ppl managed to find a way to tighten them up!

All 3 blue models i tested had build quality issues (screen/frame).
The white one i settled for is perfect.
All of the above were C5O... serial
I thought this creakyness was a bit of exaggeration but it is definitely there. I have another cheap tablet and it does not feel like this... also the widescreen format makes me feel the screen is too narrow when reading in portrait mode. Kind of having buyer's remorse.

Hmm yeah that is strange... unfortunately the store I bought it from only sells a blue one, and if I were to return it now I would only get a gift card as it's outside the 14 day refund period.
I would want to return it really, I am really happy with the tablet on the whole, its just a little disappointing when you undock it and hold it in your hand, the edges of the screen dont feel solid and sturdy, its kinda like what people have been complaining about with the screen popping issues on the nexus 7.
If I were to open the backplate and tighten up all the screws around the edge would this help any?
btw, mine is C6O serial number
Mine is white, and I have that creakiness. But I don't regret it, this tablet is awesome!

Hi Chriwu,
Can you by any chance take a picture of the places you put the masking tape that will help me fix mine?
I cant be bothered returning it if I am just going to get the same thing again on an exchange.

Sure, here's a picture of the top of the back-cover. You kinda have to feel around the corners of your device to see where you need to "fill" inn with some masking-tape so it stops moving. Also take note of where the plastic clips that holds it to the screen is, so you dont block them.

Any tape will do really, I just used masking-tape because it's very thin and very easy to take off if it didn't work or if I used too much. It takes very little tape to make a difference.

Hey, finally got round to doing this today, and what a difference! No more creaks!
I just used brown parcel tape as thats all I had laying around, and just doubled it up in the areas that were the worst, as its very thin. All in all im very impressed. Maybe Asus should have thought of this before it left the factory! lol

So a bought my tablet, without the dock. Being a modder/hacker/tweaker, I knew I had to root and learn the flash process specific to my device ASAP.
Horrified to find that I would lose my warranty, and that I would be on my own from that moment when I would have unlocked it an beyond.
So I hesitated... For a week... and unlocked, rooted, and flashed a couple ROMs. All is well.
Fast forward 4 months...
I started getting issues with the touch screen on my device. I was heartbroken. I knew that nobody would fix it, despite it being a hardware defect of some kind.
The issue I was having was the "Ghost Touches" which would swipe up and down rapidly and randomly on the left half of the screen.
It would happen seemingly at random, and progressively became so bad that I couldn't use my TF700 any longer.
Shelving it for a few weeks, I finally became inspired and motivated to try to fix it myself, or at least discover wtf was wrong with it.
I found that pressing on the bottom of the tablet (the sections that surround the screen itself) would actually make the problem go away, but also make half of my screen unresponsive until I screen locked/unlocked it.
That made me feel that it was software related seeing that a simple lock/unlock via the top left button would make it stop for a few seconds, but this wasn't the case despite this glaring fact.
So I knew I had to open it, and I had no resources, couldn't find any videos, no information on opening this thing was available, at least at the time.
The steps I took were:
1) Turning off the device of course.
2) Flipped it over and with a flashlight looked down into the two slots for mounting it on the dock.
2a) I peeled away the squishy stickery thingy from each slot.
2b) There are little circles, one in each, that using something sturdy, you must slide to the tablet's left. (I used a nail...)
3) Using some kind of plastic yet sturdy wedge, you must unsnap all of the clasps under the screen to free it.
3a) I used a guitar pick, starting from one of the slots on the bottom, I ran the pick around the edges of the screen after carefully forcing it between the aluminium case and the glass.
3b) With somewhat violent prying motions I was able to free all of the snaps. (You need not unsnap the top side, only the bottom, left, and right sides. If I recall correctly)
4) There's 2 ribbons, they're sneaky, one is copper colored, the other is white. The white one is the scary one.
I turned on my tablet at this point, everything worked fine, I was VERY thankful at that point.
Now I looked around on the inside of the device and noticed that the point where the copper ribbon meets the digitizer/lcd screen was dented a bit, and when I ran my finger across it, the phantom touch problem went absolutely crazy. Bingo.
I found the pressing the ribbon flat against the screen, and firmly holding it in place fixed the problem.
So with a piece of tape I found next to me, I carefully rolled the tape over the dented area of the ribbon, and firmly secured the ribbon to the back of the screen preventing it from moving at all.
Upon reassembling my device, all has worked well, though when I shake the tablet, or press on certain points (takes a fair bit of pressure, nothing you'd ever do intentionally) the "Ghost Touch" comes back, but is easily remedied by a quick lock/unlock. This happens only once or twice a week at best, and I use this tablet HEAVILY.
Sorry for the messy post, and the lack of pictures, I didn't take any, and am not doing this again until I have to.
I really hope anyone who read this can gain from it.
Regards,
~HNx

Wow thank you for the post very very much.
I have had the ghost touch problem ever since the start, but it only came about with the dock connected. Through trial and error i figured that the dock is pressing on the bottom of the screen when you open/close it and causes persistent ghost touch. Simple on/off screen would fix it until i adjust the dock angle again. Never had it without dock connected.
Mine is also unlocked so no warranty. Although i am planning to rma the dock as its started to make clicking noises when open/closes.
Will definitely do your fix soon. How long would you say the whole process took you the first time?
Any idea what is causing the ghosting after the fix? My thought is that it was the gorilla glass bending that was creating some interference inside of it, hope i'm wrong.
Also, since we are on the fixing it from the inside page, the clicking noises (i get slight ones if i press/squeeze by audio jack), could they be fixed with some filing. ?
And the big one, could we solder on / replace the inner sdcard chip? perhaps hack a flash/ssd in there if possible?
There are pictures of the TF700's internal components on the iFixIt web site.
I don't think you can replace a BGA chip without damaging the board.
Took me a while to get to it but i opened her up today.
Firstly i recently received my dock back from RMA because the left top corner kept opening up when i tilt the tablet and i had to press on dock to click it back together. RMA people sent it back saying "works as intended, no problems found" with an added touch of removing right side rubber protector (left and bottom still there). Thank you for that..
So i decided to take matter in my own hands and lifted the top left rubber foothold of the dock only to find the warranty "void" screw just fall out... apparently it was never screwed in. OK easy fix, touch of screwdriver and dock is now better than new. Nice quality control there ASUS.
So now excited with first fix, i got to the tablet.
The ghost touch has been plaguing me with the dock attached every time.
I had tf700 unlocked to get the extra performance due to slow flash so no warranty.
Used 2 guitar picks, managed to get the screen off no problems. Tested if it still works, fine there too.
As noted by OP, the orange ribbon causes ghost touches as you press on it.
The white ribbon was in the way so I unplugged it from the screen.
This is the trouble causing area:

It was obviously insecurely connected to the touch screen. I tried to stuff some tinfoil to the edges to hold in better, however, upon testing my solution, had a fatal (to the screen) accident.
The white ribbon killed lcd power and I couldnt tell if device was on (which it was). Upon attempting to connect the ribbon back, some contacts touch other contacts on the connector, small electrical flash, and lcd screen is dead... :crying:
tablet still works with dock and hdmi out:
Well since screen was broken already i decided to remove it from the touch glass to further investigate the ghost touch.
This is the problem, the orange ribbon was just glued to the touch screen (pressed between 2 screens) and has no secure connection hold. perhaps the glue unglued or air bubbles get in the way or the 2 screens not hold it tightly enough. It is obviously a design fault.
Whoever decided to use this method and then use same badly secured connection area to apply force to keyboard dock to open/close the device, did poor job...
Sure it is my fault i ruined the screen but i cant help but to feel cheated from ASUS.
I loved the idea of transformer tablet and was a very loyal ASUS fan. Bought it first month it came out, used for a year already.
They advertized a premium top of the line product, use a cheap memory solution which makes customers unlock and
void warranty. And when design failures arise, well, you are on your own.
Every TF700 tablet has this "ghost touch" problem, by design. Some may be better than others. It is just a failed product execution.
Not sure what i will do with the tablet now, have mixed feelings about it.
But as a long time ASUS customer / fan, can no longer recommend their products. Their new "direction" of passing bad designs as premium products, just not what I expected.

upon further review, the lcd connection wire had some pins burned out from the short, so hopefully lcd screen is alive.
[EDIT]
WOW they sell from china for 45 dollars!! for a tiny piece of wire like that...
anyone with a broken/replacement lcd which has a working wire be willing to salvage/sell theirs?
Just as an update, I've yet to need to take my TF700 apart again. The "Ghost Touch" problem hasactually gone away entirely even with
pressure applied to the effected areas.
Further I've tracked the problem down to the tablet getting hot, very hot. As dankens points out, the glue is all that holds the ribbon in place. It's my suspicion that the glue becomes loose. The ribbon most likely shifts a bit at this point, and the problem arises.
Be careful tf700 owners, once it starts, it doesn't just go away.

First I'd like to apologize if my post played any role in the eventual damaging of your tablet.
I hate to see such an expensive device broken.
You said it was just some burnt out pins that are problem. I'm pretty sure that I could repair it if you havn't yet bought a new screen.

Well, i went out and got the parts from china/ebay, i think they ship them on wales from china because it took forever!
Started off with the damn white ribbon which cost me $41 for a 4 inch piece of wire!!
LCD was still dead, so i figured it got fried as well. new LCD (no digitizer) cost another $88. After assembling (now i make sure the battery is unplugged first thing, and connected last) i could see the lcd lamp turn on but screen was black.
Next to go was the mobo (i think GPU fried as well), they dont really sell those much, cheapest one was $80 (refurbished).
connected all and viola, back to normal. cost of parts: 209, worth it? not sure.
Definitely a learning experience, damn parts cost more than the tablet itself.
Looking forward to Dell Venue 11 pro (i5 version).

For those of you who will attempt to fix the same problem reported in the OP, my 2 cents:
1. After you successfully open the tab, but BEFORE doing anything, turn off the switch in the area circled red in the attached thumbs. This will cut off all electrical current to the components and prevent accidental shorts. It's called "service switch" for that reason;
2. The information given earlier about how the ribbon was bonded to the glass was incorrect. So I deleted that part. I examined under a microscope and it appeared a chemical strip of some kind was applied to the glass for bonding. Apparently, it worked in my case since I put a piece of kapton tape where the ribbon came off the glass, More likely, it was a part of the ribbon that had no function in the operation of the touchscreen. Thus, there ain't no way one can re-bond it once the ribbon's ripped off the glass, undamaged though it might be.
It looks like I'm having the same issue, but I'm confused about where to put the tape. Should I be removing the digitizer for this? Does the tape go RIGHT WHERE the ribbon connects to the glass? Or do I simply fold the ribbon over top of the computer chips on the back of the digitizer and do it there and tape it there?

I hope someone can answer this. I can't figure out where to put the tape from all these posts either. I am about to embark on this journey. I have never disassembled a tablet or smartphone before. I am not that scared because I haven't really used this tablet due to all the problems I have had with it and have moved on the the Nexus 7. I would like to have it back in service though since now it is unusable due to the ghost touches.
Edit:
This might be the info I was looking for from a post above. Thanks.

I successfully opened it up and taped the white and gold wires down but the problem didnt go away. I am able to reproduce it more now though. I didnt tape the gold wire to the edge of the screen because when I pressed on that with the unit on it didn't cause the issue. I was able to make it happen while opened by touching the gold wire near where the problem spot seems to be but not on it.
Wondering if I build up a protective bump of material like tape inside so the case cant be compressed to cause the issue if that will help. I refuse to send it anywhere or purchase parts. I've spent too much time and effort on this thing. Really sucks to have a tablet that I cant use. I guess I could sell it on ebay for parts.
I'm going to keep bumping this as I discover more.
So I took it apart again trying to rig it up to work.
I found that the gold cable doesn't like being bent the way it is bent from the factory. If you straighten it out and fiddle with it, the ghost touches go away. I have been doing all my testing with the tablet powered on making sure not to disconnect anything. This way I can really get a feel for what is causing the ghost touches. If you intend on doing this look for the service switch and shut it off. Its hard to find even though its right in the middle of everything.
Cable with "33" written on it is the issue. I cut away some of the black plastic they used to keep things neat.
Pulling away the problem cable for your viewing pleasure
Tried to add some foam padding which helped with the case open.
Too much padding to close the case. Might try again with less padding.

Just curious why you chose the one for 80 when there are ones for 59 to 69?
I have gotten this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/Motorola-Mo...e174428&pid=100005&rk=1&rkt=6&sd=152201847036 or this one https://www.fixez.com/store/motorola/motorola-moto-x-pure-edition with no problems
Because the others I looked at did not have speaker grills.
Also saw this a lot of the repair videos use: http://www.repairsuniverse.com/moto...reLCDframeblk&utm_campaign=JerryRigEverything

Replaced screen on my nexus 6, should be similar. Not that difficult.

I'm thinking to change mine from service center because of yellow tint.
I've replaced the screen twice ,added pogo pins to the second sim slot which I broke out (its just glued in) turning my xt1575 into a xt1572 using chinese dual sim software (works better than FI) I like using Verizon and Tmobile at the same time in the US, I literally have service everywhere, I';m only using a Verizon Tablet Sim cause I have many other SIP numbers linked in. I live in Colorado and need a **** load of numbers.
Its really easy to change the screen, I strongly suggest spending a few extra bucks and get one thats already on its frame or GOOD LUCK GETTTING THE OLD ONE ON THE NEW FRAME, YOU JUST WASTED BUCKS IT IS LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE. YOU MUST GET THE VERSION WITH THE FRAME OR YOu will be attempting to remove your old frame, clean it, and pray you line everytrhing up right (and it takes about 5 hours longer with a heat gun) I can change a screen with frame (the speaker grills pop off and pop onto the new one you must pull out straight and push in dead straight. I promise this, did it twice.
The hardest thing is getting all the little screws back in without torquing the screen and making little light colored spots, took me many hours the first time of adjustment to get it right and it didn't last.
Itrs been a pretty good phone but it is no droid x. its chinese as hell. I dropped a sledgehammer on my droid x., tore out half the aluminum frame but left Gorilla Glass one perfect (Gorilla Glass has only gotten ****tier) plus a rounded screen is downright stupid. I dropeed it on a empty pill bottle one time, another time it was just broken creen facing in in my pocket. It is no American phone, its Legend all the way.
Still good phone, still extrodinarily hackable if you get the **** away from android its basically a shark running debian with the antennas I've soldered onto it now running my scanners. Check previous posts to se where I soldered, I gained (lost) 10 points rssi on 2.4 all around bluetooth goes forever and 5G well, its fast. I noticed having more bluetooths and wifis in range made my location accuracy jump. I don't like that/.
I've changed the screen also after dropping it.
And I would also suggest to get the version with the frame.
I have 2 little spots on the left upper side and right bottom side but they aren't anoying.
I was happy that my screen was working.
How do you know if the screen has the frame? I'm looking at this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-LCD-d...sh=item2ca7621020:g:z3AAAOSwCypWnjQc#shpCntId. @JeffreyM @NixonP
Same here, i ordered one with the frame, but i still want to know..... i ordered btw this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/252361820613
And opening the phone was a peace of cake, only you need to look you really got all the screws out. i almost forgot the one that was mounted on the Motherboard.
Also popping out the speaker grills is easy peasy work.
I'm looking for one from EU so I avoid paying import taxes but I think I'll have to order one from outside of EU. BTW do you notice any difference in the display quality?

How do you know if the screen has the frame? I'm looking at this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-LCD-d...sh=item2ca7621020:g:z3AAAOSwCypWnjQc#shpCntId. @JeffreyM @NixonP

I do not believe that the one that you are showing the link to has the frame, it doesn't say it has the frame in the description and if you look at the picture and look at the top of the screen where the speaker grill would go, if it had the frame you would not be able to see through to the white background, it would have the black frame to hold the speaker grill and you would not see the white background.
Tight Screws -> Light Bleed

The hardest thing is getting all the little screws back in without torquing the screen and making little light colored spots, took me many hours the first time of adjustment to get it right and it didn't last.

Did you ever figure out a reliable trick for this? My kid cracked my screen this week, so I picked up the replacement screen/digitizer/frame from fixez.com. It swapped out easy enough, but the only way I can get the light bleed to go away is to back the nearby screws off to the point where I can easily get my fingernail in the gap between the front and middle pieces of the frame (i.e. a no-go).
I've got an email out to fixez.com to get their input. It seems to me that you should be able to put the screws in till they're tight (not wrenching them down, but snug) without worrying about distorting the screen.
Hey I ordered the following from gadget fix and replaced it myself.
Item name:Motorola Moto X Pure Edition XT1575 LCD Screen + Touch Screen Digitizer + Frame
Item number:231820642901
Earlier I had ordered the one without frame but had to return it because it was impossible to separate our the frame from old screen and attach it to the new screen
I ordered the screen from China over eBay and replaced it today. The process isn't so hard but the screen is damaged (as shown in the picture).

I had a similar issue with my replacement screen and it turned out that the screws were too tight
After loosing them a little the bright spot went away. I will try that before ordering a second screen
As a new user, what all do I need to worry about with this phone's display? Are there very common issues where I'm likely going to need to replace this screen? I'm not looking to keep this phone for longer than a year. It's just serving as my daily driver until the next Samsung Note device is released (and proven not to blow up). Thanks.

Keep a good case on it and try not to drop it or bang the screen too much. The screen is more susceptible to cracking from drops due to the curvature and prominence of the glass from the frame. A face down or side drop means the glass is more likely to take the impact directly vs another phone in which the screen is flush with the frame. As far as defective screens (I.e. color or pixel issues) I don't think it is any more prominent than any other brand. However, of you have have submitted for and received an unlock code for your bootloader, your warranty is void, and Motorola will most likely deny any warranty claim.
