Ok, I have a refurbished Samsung Nexus S GT-i9020t that I purchased today. I am using simple mobile as my network, now my phone doesn't pick up any signal. I do get a notification for voicemail but no signal to check it. I can drive around town and occasionally get 1-2 bars on edge. any ideas? Thanks

eventually you can try cache/dalvik wipe or as last chance a full wipe...

I tried Method 1 (with regular recovery not ClockWorkMod Recovery):
1, Reboot into recovery,
2, Select "select zip from SD card"
3, Locate where your radio file is
4, Select it and "yes"
5, Wait for it to reboot and you're done!
and the installation gets aborted when it tries to verify the update package. BTW i'm not rooted.
Update: I rooted the phone and flashed two basebands. Still no luck.

remove the battery cover and check the signal.. sometimes when i dont get network that works...
Tried, no luck. Could the reason be, I am subscribed to 3g service and not 4g?
Maybe the device has a bad antenna or some other hardware faulty that wasn't fixed during refurbishing?

The i9020T does not support 4g so that's not the problem... try entering *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer, then a new window will pop, enter phone information and check that preferred network type is correct with your network.
I've have tried various provider sims card and stil no luck. I think its the phone it self. I'm going to return it.

Hi All,
After unlocking the bootloader, I used paul's Superboot to get root and used ROM manager to flash the latest CWM. All is well except every-time I reboot, I lose the signal (it shows emergency calls only) and I have to search for available networks in Mobile network settings.
Anyone else having this issue? Any fixes?
Cheers,
Sonny
Solution:
In the dialpad enter *#*#4636#*#*
Select phone information
Scroll down to preferred networks
Select "WCDMA only"
Click on Update
You need to re-enter the SMSC Carrier number. For WIND Mobile Canada, SMSC is 16135009000
Android requires you to enter this info in Hex.
Hex = 07916131059000F0
In the dialpad enter *#*#4636#*#*
Select phone information
Scroll down to SMSC field, enter 07916131059000F0 and done. Then reboot.
Me too
I have the same problem, anyone else?
Anyone else having this issue?
@sonnysekhon
sonnysekhon, although not a solution, turning Airplane mode on and off resolves this faster than searching for the network operator then registering.
i get that on my XT720
but not on my SNS
even on the XT720 it is only until it finishes booting up.
i think the SNS is faster than the XT720 when it comes to finding the signal

Ah, thanks, I missed it. I don't re-read OP on most threas unless it's a dev thread.
Sorry to post to an old thread, but I also get this problem.
I'm on stock 2.3.4 with 9020t nexus s, upon reboot it goes to a "no service" and I'm on mobilicity. Does anyone have the smsc # for mobilicity?
I've found 16478000106 on a random post and it doesnt seem to fix the problem. I've switched it to hexi format, to 0791617408000106 with WCDMA only and still no fix.

Hey,
For Mobilicity Canada Hex = 07916174080001F6.
Just tried 07916174080001f6 with WCDMA only. Still comes up with "No Service" at the top notification bar. Also tried to manually select and reboot the phone with the smsc settings.
Is there something I'm missing here? I've gone back to stock waiting for cm for 2.3.4 which I'm a bit paranoid it might have tampered with few settings.
EDIT: Problem fixed! Went to wireless settings and hit "Search automatically" and rebooted the phone. Connection was a zero for 10 seconds or so until it locked in with network. No service is definitely gone, thanks again Sonny!

Im Having Problems with my G2x Yes its Rooted it was working fine for a couple of months then today i was just texting and it just rebooted and its like it cant read my SIM card i cant get no signal So can any body help me?
It can't get no signal? So then it does get a signal. Anyhow....
1. Try turning airplane mode on then off
2. Try rebooting
3. Does it say Invalid SIM? Because if it does that's one thing if it doesn't it's a phone issue and can be caused by some ROMs
4. Repeat 1 and 2 above but standing out side where there is no question of signal quality.
5. If at this point you still have no signal tell us what ROM and kernel you have, and under volting or over clocking.

go into recovery, and try wiping cache, see if that fixes it. if not make a backup and wipe data. if it still is not fixed then try flashing a different ROM (even a gingerbread one if needed) and post back what you find.
if none of this helps your sim card might be busted, in which case call your local t-mobile store

did you follow the directions above?
if you did then one last step you can take is to use the LG KDZ flasher tool to completely and 100% restore the phone to factory condition (do a search in the development section)
this tool has been know to brick phones, so only do it if you have done all of the above things that i suggested.
if that doesn't work then it is most likely a hardware problem, which means you have a phone sized tablet now
HTC One XL on Telstra
I just updated my firmware to 4.1.1 and I can connect to WiFi without a problem, but I can't load any webpages. It's basically been rendered useless since the update. My computer(s) can still connect to the same network without a problem and load pages.
I can also access the modem settings from my phone, but I can't seem to get any connectivity. I used WiFi to update the software also.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Telstra released 3.17, their JB update on Christmas Eve as planned.
Was your phone standard before you updated?
Eg were you running stock Telstra software prior to the update it offered you? You should not take over the air updates unless you are running standard software to begin with.
I dont believe anyone else is having this issue and many many people have updated.
Try resetting your router? Personally this sounds like a modem issue.
Forget the network and readd, while adding click advanced options and make sure your IP settings are correct for your network, eg DHCP.
Try resetting settings on either your phone or router?
Contact Telstra regarding the issue and if they have any solutions?
PS. on a second thought it sounds like DNS is not working. You should try to prove if it is your router or phone that is stopping DNS from working.
I agree that it does sound like DNS, can you check the DNS resolution or toggle the DNS servers.
Try dialing:
*#*#526#*#*
It is supposed to reinstall the wifi driver
I am having an identical problem with my telstra one XL.
I have tried 3 different modems so it is definitely not a modem issue.
I booted in safe mode to see if that would help and it didnt.
Dialing *#*#526#*#* didnt do anything, once i input the last star it just clears everything i dialed.

You are making this out to be more complex than it is.
Look you have 3 clear options:
1)Complain to Telstra (who will likely suggest #2 "data reset")
2)Do what others suggest to fix the problem, eg data reset
3)Do not use wifi.
Complaining to Telstra is the correct thing to do as perhaps they can get HTC to release a fix for it?
But a fix from Telstra is unlikely to be timely. If you want this resolved soon do #2 or #3.
Hey, I think I'm having the same issue. I'm sending this from my tablet over wifi, however my phone will not connect to the internet on the same network.
The network configuration is Modem > Router > Device, and I can access (log in, change settings, etc) the router from my one xl, but not the modem, nor the internet. Quite strange...especially as it is the same network over which I downloaded the JB update, so it clearly was working, but now isn't :/
Anyway, hope the extra info helps
Hi, I've been using packet data on my phone (Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus S7500) with stock firmware ever since I go my phone.
I've been trying to install CyanogenMod 10.1 for 3 days, and I can not get packet data to work; I have created the APN as should be for my network provider, but nothing happens; it looks like the phone does not even try connecting to the 3G APN.
Is there anything specifc to be done in order to get packet data working again?

I had seen that post of yours already and I had tried it, in vain. Mine seems to be a different problem altogether; it looks like my phone does not even try connecting through the packet data APN for some reason.
When I'm on that screen (*#*#4636#*#* --> Phone Info), there's a field in there which says "Data Attempts: 0". I even tried accessing the menu on that screen, and there was "Enable data connection", I thought that would do the trick, but nada!
Is there some way I can debug this to see why the phone is not using the Data APN?
Ah, by the way, I have also tried with CM-10, same problem. When I revert back to stock firmware, works perfectly.

As far as i know you are the only 1 i saw who have this problem, others are low connection only. You sure you set your apn correctly? Note your apn setting in stock then flash cm check the apn setting if it is the same on the stock. Or just try to reflash the rom and make sure you follow the installation guide in op.
Try also to consult others maybe they can help.

Well, like I said, after I saw that Packet Data was not working on CM-10.1, I flashed to stock firmware; I created the same APN with the exact same settings as on 10.1, it worked fine; I thought I'd try CM-10 this time, so I did, and I created the same APN again, doesn't work; now I have reinstalled 10.1, with the hope that we come up with a solution soon.
Is there anyway I can see some connection debugging? Using adb, or otherwise? There must be a reason why the phone is not choosing the packet data APN, right?
Edit: I don't know if this could help, but I'm from a tiny island in the Indian Ocean called Mauritius. My operator is Emtel, and you can see the settings for Android on their website (emtel.mu/android). Based on that page, I am supposed to set up the APN as follows:
- For Name, enter WEB
- For APN, enter web
- For APN Type select Internet
- Leave all other entries blank
- Save

On stock firmware, I do have a drop-down to 'Select Internet' for APN type. On CM-10 and CM-10.1 however, I don't have the drop-down; I have only a textfield; could that be a problem?

Ok, so I was able to fix it in a very simple way; I checked out this post (showthread.php?t=2316943), and in there they tell you how to manually modify the /system/etc/apns-conf.xml file; I checked it and went through it, checking how the other APNs were set up; it turns out I just had to change APN Type to "Default" instead of "Internet" as specified on Emtel's website.
It now works!
Thanks for trying to help , ANDROID-000.
Just for clarification; I ended up not needing to modify the /system/etc/apns-conf.xml file manually; I just changed the APN Type from the interface.

Got my Nexus 5 on Friday, put my SIM in it and everything worked like a charm. Went through the weekend happy with how good everything was.
Yesterday, I was getting poor signal (connection errors when on LTE). So I decided to try a reboot. I did that and the phone came back with no service. I checked the APN, no issues. I swapped my SIM into my old phone, LTE working fine. I called my phone company (Rogers) and they checked the SIM, reset the network and I reset the phone. No Service (no anything).
I called Google support and their systems were down, so they recommended a Factory Data Reset. I did that - twice, still no service.
Any ideas? I'm guessing I'll have to send this phone in for replacement.

Nope. My wife's SIM also didn't work. Odd that everything worked fine at first.
Dial *#*#4636#*#* and select phone -> change the drop down box to LTE only and see if data works. Make sure to change to back to something relevant if you want voice/text afterwards (like WCDMA preferred). Sounds like its not set to use LTE anymore.
It's not just LTE, it's all service including basic phone calls. Already shipped back to Google.
go to your carrier and get a new sim card , the one you have has become defective. Your carrier should not charge you anything for a new sim card , if they do maybe 5-10 $
Are you on a 3G only plan? The way many carriers (most of them outside the US, known problem on some carriers in Japan, France and the UK) are provisioning their SIMs, if there is an LTE network on the carrier and the SIM is provisioned as a 3G-only plan, a Nexus 5 will not register to the network at all. There is no workaround to this at present other than to change your plan to something that is LTE enabled.
Rebooted my phone tonight, when it was up again no service. It only says "Searching for Service" I already tested several SIMs and took a look into the sim tray but all pins are still there.
I then relocked the bootloader, unlocked it again and flashed the original images aswell as the radio but nothing works
UPDATE: I managed to get my reception back. I flashed the radio again had no reception, then flashed twrp and wiped data, cache and dalvik cache.

Are you fix the problem after flashed twrp and wiped data, cache and dalvik cache?
thank
I got the same problem too.
I got the same problem after rooted and flashed cm11 rom. Whatever I do, flash a different band, kernel or wipe everything, it just can't work. The provider is wind.ca and fido.ca. they both are no service. Someone help us plz.

Dial *#*#4636#*#* and select phone -> change the drop down box to LTE only and see if data works. Make sure to change to back to something relevant if you want voice/text afterwards (like WCDMA preferred). Sounds like its not set to use LTE anymore.

Thanks, that actually helped for me. I just played a little with the quicktoggles on Paranoid Android when I switched to "Just LTE" and couldn't switch it back. Your little trick actually helped me out a lot.

My nexus 5 wasn't brought from Google and i don't think I have warranty, if I can't fix, i want to find somewhere to repair it. Do you know where I can do that? By the way, I live in Canada.

From his message it seemed his issue didn't go away.
I am having the same issue with two of my phones. I have four. One radio went to "No service" mode last Saturday, and today My nexus 5 went to 'no service' (7 day after last time it happened)

are you stock or rooted?
did you try to flash full stock images then reset the phone?
I have the same problem. After I rooted and flashed to a CM rom my service was gone.
I flashed back to stock with radio/bootloader/system/cache/recovery the whole shabam.
I deleted cache, dalvick and everything else. Nothing helped with getting back my signal.
Is there a new work around for this? I seem to have tried everything that has been posted on XDA. Or am I missing something abvious?
Who can help me?
(ps my sim card works just fine in my gf's phone.)
