Still not available for Verizon. But, Google Wallet no longer stores the information in the secure element of the physical phone, but stores it on their servers instead.
Also, it's now available for most credit cards.
Is this going to make it easier for someone to hack it on to our Verizon phones?
Can anyone get a copy of the .apk and see what happens if you just try to sideload?
It gives the usual "blah blah google wallet is not yet supported on your network" its really sad that verizon can block it.
I downloaded the updated google wallet from the play store on my Verizon GS3 and it still says "Unfortunately, Google Wallet is not yet available for your device or mobile network."
I haven't tried the original google wallet trick but I wonder if that could work with the new update.
If Verizon is going to block it, fine, but at least have a solution for us. I don't really care what payment provider gets the money. I just want to be able to use my phone to make purchases.
Do a little research. I have the verizon sgs3 and was able to get google wallet working.

So you are confirming that the previous method works with the new Google Wallet app released today?
Did you even read this thread? Google Wallet was completely revamped today.

Most likely not. I'm sure he's a tool referring to the non-updated GW and making snark tough guy remarks while simultaneously not reading.

Just saying to others, my guide DOES work. If you did something else to use wallet and claim afterwards its broken. Not on me. I have heard from others that updating works too. So this is a confirmed addition to my guide.

I wish people would read. But I'll post again here. WE STILL NEED A SECURE ELIMENT! Unless Google (or a 3rd party) includes a TSM that routes private (account) information to the SIM or SD Card, we will not have Google wallet. regardless if the market says it is compatible or not. I do not know for sure if this build of ICS includes such a TSM but i doubt it because it is usually provided via 3rd party app. And even if it did, the Google Wallet app would have to be updated (or modified) to allow it. Right now, Google only uses Hardware secure eliments. SO until somebody actually uses Google Wallet on a SkyRocket to pay for a Big Mac, I don't think the poeple that claim it works know what they are talking about. Please...prove me wrong.

Google Wallet wont work because we need a secure element. Most people think that When / if ATT decides to support it we on ATT will get new sim cards that have this secure element.
I dont use Straight Talk. I dont know if they support google wallet or not. But the phone has NFC (even though ATT keeps removing it and doesn't want any of us to use it) and as long as your running a ICS rom with working ncf the phone is technological compatible but the Carrier needs to provide a secure element for it to work.
Hope this helps

It does, thanks, i already thought the SE was already inside the phone and not based on the Simcard itself. I did hear tho that they will be releasing SD cards with this inside them.

I would just like to let everyone know, I found this by searching for "wallet" at the top level of the forum. I then searched the first 4 threads returned for "wallet" and examined the results. I also "bracketed" my searches within the threads (I looked at comments before and after each of the search results) - it's taken me a good 5 minutes of focus to get here, and find this answer.

Thank you good sir, haha. Forum use: you're doing it right.
I've just spent the past couple of hours trying most of the available apks for Google Wallet. I did manage to get the 1.1r67-v12 version installed and running, however when I go to activate it tells me my hardware is not supported. Supposedly this was a known issue for G3 users on other carriers and Google released a fix for Sprint users. I have yet to find this update available in the form of an APK.
If anybody has access to a Sprint S3, could you please get me the APK?
For those interested, Google for a download link to the 1.1r67-v12 and using root explorer, copy it to both system/app and data/app and then reboot. Make sure the perms are correct (google it, rw--r--r or something similar.
My next steps are to try the build.prop trick in combination with the above apk.
If anybody else has any progress on this, please post below.
Thanks

Wait where did you get this idea? Wasn't NFC one of the key features of the Galaxy s 3? it would seem pretty silly for them to take it out. Then again they locked the boot loader =/

The Verizon page for the GS3 has S-Beam as listed. It wouldn't be listed if it didn't have NFC.
Verizon probably won't allow Google Wallet because they have a competing product, called ISIS. Bummer.
**Warning....wild speculation follows....
From what I can tell there is something missing (might be a bug) in the current version of our OS that isn't letting Google Wallet recognize the NFC device. Sprint had the same issue and apparently there was an update released OTA that fixed the issue for most everybody. If we could somehow get ahold of the before and after image and figure out exactly what was changed, we should be able to emulate they fix on the Verizon phone and get Google Wallet working.
I'm going to keep banging away at it, but there are plenty here way more experienced than I.....so here's hoping somebody else is looking at this.
ok...so the Market Enabler trick doesn't work either.
Obviously Google Wallet recognizes our NFC chip as if I turn it off Wallet will complain that it is off until I turn it on.
I've pulled down the two OTA's that Sprint has pushed out. One of which is supposed to fix the issue on Spring S3's.
Anybody know if its possible to extract the files within the updated boot.img files and apply them somehow post boot since we can't modify the current boot.img on the phone?
If anybody is a dev or knows a dev and they wouldn't mind taking a look at this thread, please let me know.

I fully agree.....however I'm sure there are plenty of people out there with the skills required to do this who aren't working on the boot loader problem.
If I knew more than I do now i'd be working on the bootloader problem myself...however my current lack of skills would only serve to impede progress so instead I'm trying to work on stuff wanted by many others.

Its definetly verizons fault. It works on all other carriers yet only verizons phone has the most problems and also their public support behind ISIS only adds fuel to the fire. I wish Verizon listened to their customers for once and stopped trying to control everything.

Wallet problem
Greetings everyone!
A little background first. Verizon SGS3, rooted and unlocked, but still on stock TW.
I completed the steps in the above mentioned thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1769083, and everything seems to be working ok. I have made a few purchases and it works, however I am thinking something is wrong.
Let me explain. When I go to make a purchase, it will make the POS machine flash/beep, etc., but then shows on my screen that the trans. may not be good/complete. The cashier continues the sale like normal, the receipt prints and all is good, but it just takes a min standing in line to make sure that all is well. Then after a while, the trans will show up in Wallet (on the phone) in the list.
Is this normal for you all?
Second thing is that I can't see my Google PrePay card in the online Wallet page. I can see the other cards that I have added in both places, phone and online, but I can't manage the new card that was given when I signed up. Therefore, I am stuck adding funds on the phone.
Should I do a reset? Will this lose the $ that I have added to the PrePay card, or will it magically pick it back up when I re-setup Wallet on the phone? I have read that I need to write down the card number (user ID) in case you need it, and I assume that this is one of those times.
Any ideas?
TIA for the help.
I'm not seeing it either unfortunately. I was just getting ready to try the workaround & then saw your post. Oh well, guess I'll still try the workaround.
Is it possibly just a regional thing? I read somewhere that they were getting ready to roll out ISIS in a couple of markets soon - is it possible that they unblocked Wallet in those markets to avoid the 'how do you justify blocking wallet as a security concern if you're now allowing ISIS' question?
Dunno.

There is a post in the general area about it thats where I heard it from but here is the link. When I go to the link it knows I have it installed properly it may take a bit before our S3's see it...

it does say it's not available on my carrier for everything but my S3 thats where it's installed the XDA way. but thats funny because my tablet is WI-Fi only so it should be able to install it to my tab...Check the general section...
So Verizon actually responded to an fcc complaint. This is their stupid reason for blocking Google wallet. Strangely no mention if their home grown "Isis" voids this "security" thing.

Google Wallet already works on their phones. I have it running on my Galaxy S3, and I'm sure a bit of searching will show that it runs perfectly fine on other phones, as well. I installed it directly from Google Play after editing a few tags to make Google Play think that I had a different phone, so they are, indeed, blocking Google Wallet.
Yes, they were responding to my complaint.
I believe Verizon IS blocking it, because Wallet runs on the Sprint GS3, and also, members here have gotten it to run on the Verizon GS3 by simply changing a few things on their phone.
Funny how Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile are backing ISIS, and Google Wallet doesn't work on those companies GS3, but Sprint is NOT backing ISIS and Google Wallet works on their GS3... HMMMM..... what does that tell you?

Exactly. The problem isn't actually running the app. Google Wallet runs fine on our phones once it's installed, the issue is that it isn't available in the PlayStore for us to download without us changing a file to fool the store into thinking we are on another phone...which allows us to proceed with the download.
Verizon is saying it won't run on the phone as it is and that's wrong...it's running fine.
The only issue is that Verizon is blocking the download.

They are blocking it, they're just doing it indirectly. Instead of saying "you cannot run Google wallet on your phone" they are telling Google that they cannot access the hardware Google wallet needs to function correctly.
Our phone has the hardware necessary to run Google wallet, but Verizon is not letting them use it.
Clearly the secure element in the nfc chip is important for this functionality or their own implementation wouldn't be using it.
They may not be flat out lying but they are being pretty dishonest.

We clearly aren't reading the same letter.
Google Wallet is different from other widely-available m-commerce services in that it requires access to the device's secure element...Google is free to offer it's Google Wallet application in a manner that doesn't require integration with the secure element.

I'm not sure how much more clear it can be that Verizon is not allowing Google to access the secure element. They want Google to modify it to NOT use the secure element so that their own mobile payment solution has an advantage.
