Hey guys! I am working on trying to get google wallet to work on my phone. Right now i have the Samsung Galaxy s II Skyrocket. But i am using Straight talk for it right now. IS there anyway around this? i get this error.
"Unfortunately, Google Wallet has not been certified in your country or on your device/Carrier."
Now, i have on the leaked ICS for this... any ideas?
No
No, doesn't work

By that do you mean it wont work because of the Straight talk? or because of the phone i have?

Google Wallet wont work because we need a secure element. Most people think that When / if ATT decides to support it we on ATT will get new sim cards that have this secure element.
I dont use Straight Talk. I dont know if they support google wallet or not. But the phone has NFC (even though ATT keeps removing it and doesn't want any of us to use it) and as long as your running a ICS rom with working ncf the phone is technological compatible but the Carrier needs to provide a secure element for it to work.
Hope this helps

It does, thanks, i already thought the SE was already inside the phone and not based on the Simcard itself. I did hear tho that they will be releasing SD cards with this inside them.
Thanks For The Info - and regarding the admonishments to "search"...

I would just like to let everyone know, I found this by searching for "wallet" at the top level of the forum. I then searched the first 4 threads returned for "wallet" and examined the results. I also "bracketed" my searches within the threads (I looked at comments before and after each of the search results) - it's taken me a good 5 minutes of focus to get here, and find this answer.
Just sayin'

Hi... this is two NFC ROM files I taken in Koeran SHV-E110S, will you guys try to put them in AT&T SkyRocket to activate its NFC, as i know SkyRocket was disable it only software. NFC.ZIP contains NFC.APK & NFC.ODEX. I dont know it works or not, We need a brave man to flash it to ROM and try... hope you guys like it
Thanks for this. It does not belong in development section. Unless you cook something than you can put that here.
And for the .zip files Well most of the Custom ROMS comes with NFC so no need for this unless you are stock and rooted.

I am stock and rooted and something like this would be of interest to me. I would like to be able to activate the NFC abilities on my phone (stock) without having to flash an entirely new ROM. Please keep us updated if anyone knows how to do this. Thanks.
I think all you do is flash it through cwm but i don't take any responsibilities if you brick your phone. because in order for nfc to work you have to tweak framework and other stuff.

That is why I don't want to try it yet because I can't afford to brick the phone...I need it for day to day stuff. I'll wait for a proven solution that will definately add NFC abilities to the stock ROM (if possible) before I try it. It does make me wonder why it is so difficult to activate NFC on this phone when things that seem a lot more complicated have already been done. Maybe it does require a completely new ROM or New OS update to make it work?
Well att does not want us to have nfc and that's y its not there. And maybe ics will get it for stock.

i think practically it could be used to add nfc to the existing cm7 rom (roms if you flash tmo s2 cm7 stuff) but i think there are indeed framework and kernel dependencies that this probably wont be able to bypass, but thats just afaik, im definitely no expert

This. Its called ISIS and notice how Sprint is not a partner. That's why NFC/Wallet works on their phones out of the box.
Its a long and complicated story, but the gist of it is that these three telecoms want to pick their own TSM (trusted service manager) and cash in on that - instead of letting Google do it (and having Google cash in).
In any case, to enable NFC on a stock ROM, you just need to edit the Settings.apk smali code to expose the option. There are guides out there on how to do it if you just want basic NFC support.
But it won't get you Google Wallet because this phone has no SecureElement. Very few phones from ISIS partners have them at this time (the Galaxy Nexus is a notable exception). The reason for this is that ISIS partners will use the SIM card to provide the SecureElement. If you somehow have one of these SIMs, you can check out my Alien ROM which has a Google Wallet port attached to the first post. But if you don't have one, it'll just sit there initializing and eventually force close (due to timeout).
The attachments in the OP are irrelevant and this thread can probably be closed.

Thank you for this information. I take it that the LTE sim that comes with the phone isn't capable of the SecureElement? I guess this means that we will all have to get different sims once again if AT&T ever gets their crap together and finally offers their ISIS service.
I've done several searches (Google and here at XDA) for the guide you mentioned for editing the Settings.apk for the stock Skyrocket ROM to enable basic NFC abilities but the only relevent search results that appear lead me back to this very thread. Can you link me or direct me to where I might find said guide? Maybe I am just worrding the searches wrong. Thank you.

Hey there..
I can't give you the EXACT location since the rom I'm using has it enabled (based on Rogers release).. but maybe I can give you enough info to point you in the right direction..
The function in android that is called to remove a preference option is called 'removePreference' oddly enough..
Look at the example below..
Code:
iget-object v1, p0, Lcom/android/settings/DevelopmentSettings;->mKeepScreenOn:Landroid/preference/CheckBoxPreference;
invoke-virtual {v0, v1}, Landroid/preference/PreferenceScreen;->removePreference(Landroid/preference/Preference;)Z
In this two lines of code if you delete the latter line it will keep the preference option and its toggle (check box) on the preference screen.
These two lines are taken from Settings.apk. Decompile it and have a look at path:
\smali\com\android\settings\DevelopmentSettings.smali':
I can't guarantee that this will help you.. Just passing on knowledge..
PM me and we'll work out something so you can send me your settings.apk and I'll take a look as well..
Ok, I sent you a PM but I've been looking into this more. I was able to extract the "settings.apk" file and decompile the XML with apktool and then view it with Notepadd++. NFC is only mentioned once in this file and it doesn't say anything about permissions in that string. I also extracted the Nfc.apk file and took a look at it, but again, I wasn't able to see anything about "removerpreference"? This phone (AT&T skyrocket I727) does have the NFC.apk and NFC.odex(?) files included so I am wondering how to enable them into the phones options on the stock ROM. Can one of the Devs help out with this information? Thanks.
I'm rolling with a Nexus S right now, and just discovered and started using Google Wallet. I know that the One X(L) has the NFC chip, but can anyone confirm that it is compatible with Google Wallet? It's not a deal-breaker, but it is up there on my list of features that I'd rather not do without.
I thought wallet is only available on sprint/ unlocked nexus phones.
Depends on Carrier. AT&T wont allow it because its putting all of its resources into Isis.
Seems to work on the nexus s that I have on at&t, although I have not tested it by tapping the phone yet. The software installed and I was able to set it up though.
AT&T might not support it, but we will find a way to put it on

There could be so many security holes though if we went about it that way. I think in this case it'd be best to wait for whatever comes out ISIS or whatever.
I tried it on my Rogers One X and it says there's a problem with the secure element

Has anyone managed to get this working?
You get $10 for free by using it FYI.
We will get a working APK method eventually of putting it on. Verizon's Gnex wasn't allowing it either but people found a way to get it to work. Its only a matter of time IMO.

That makes no sense, if its an at&t branded phone then its going to support what at&t allows. Just because you use another carrier doesn't mean that changes
Starting sometime soon unlocking phones for other carriers is going to become illegal so its definitely not going to be a priority

Lol makes perfect sense to me since I don't use at&t. Especially since at&t will unlock your phone with a 10 minute phone call to their customer service.
Also will us prepaid users even be able to use Isis? Probably not, so will get screwed.
How are they going to make sim unlocking illegal? Jail breaking is already perfectly legal and you can even clone your phone as long as you own both devices and pay for your service.

I've just spent the past couple of hours trying most of the available apks for Google Wallet. I did manage to get the 1.1r67-v12 version installed and running, however when I go to activate it tells me my hardware is not supported. Supposedly this was a known issue for G3 users on other carriers and Google released a fix for Sprint users. I have yet to find this update available in the form of an APK.
If anybody has access to a Sprint S3, could you please get me the APK?
For those interested, Google for a download link to the 1.1r67-v12 and using root explorer, copy it to both system/app and data/app and then reboot. Make sure the perms are correct (google it, rw--r--r or something similar.
My next steps are to try the build.prop trick in combination with the above apk.
If anybody else has any progress on this, please post below.
Thanks

Wait where did you get this idea? Wasn't NFC one of the key features of the Galaxy s 3? it would seem pretty silly for them to take it out. Then again they locked the boot loader =/

The Verizon page for the GS3 has S-Beam as listed. It wouldn't be listed if it didn't have NFC.
Verizon probably won't allow Google Wallet because they have a competing product, called ISIS. Bummer.
**Warning....wild speculation follows....
From what I can tell there is something missing (might be a bug) in the current version of our OS that isn't letting Google Wallet recognize the NFC device. Sprint had the same issue and apparently there was an update released OTA that fixed the issue for most everybody. If we could somehow get ahold of the before and after image and figure out exactly what was changed, we should be able to emulate they fix on the Verizon phone and get Google Wallet working.
I'm going to keep banging away at it, but there are plenty here way more experienced than I.....so here's hoping somebody else is looking at this.
ok...so the Market Enabler trick doesn't work either.
Obviously Google Wallet recognizes our NFC chip as if I turn it off Wallet will complain that it is off until I turn it on.
I've pulled down the two OTA's that Sprint has pushed out. One of which is supposed to fix the issue on Spring S3's.
Anybody know if its possible to extract the files within the updated boot.img files and apply them somehow post boot since we can't modify the current boot.img on the phone?
If anybody is a dev or knows a dev and they wouldn't mind taking a look at this thread, please let me know.

I fully agree.....however I'm sure there are plenty of people out there with the skills required to do this who aren't working on the boot loader problem.
If I knew more than I do now i'd be working on the bootloader problem myself...however my current lack of skills would only serve to impede progress so instead I'm trying to work on stuff wanted by many others.

Its definetly verizons fault. It works on all other carriers yet only verizons phone has the most problems and also their public support behind ISIS only adds fuel to the fire. I wish Verizon listened to their customers for once and stopped trying to control everything.

Still not available for Verizon. But, Google Wallet no longer stores the information in the secure element of the physical phone, but stores it on their servers instead.
Also, it's now available for most credit cards.
Is this going to make it easier for someone to hack it on to our Verizon phones?
Can anyone get a copy of the .apk and see what happens if you just try to sideload?
It gives the usual "blah blah google wallet is not yet supported on your network" its really sad that verizon can block it.
I downloaded the updated google wallet from the play store on my Verizon GS3 and it still says "Unfortunately, Google Wallet is not yet available for your device or mobile network."
I haven't tried the original google wallet trick but I wonder if that could work with the new update.
If Verizon is going to block it, fine, but at least have a solution for us. I don't really care what payment provider gets the money. I just want to be able to use my phone to make purchases.
Do a little research. I have the verizon sgs3 and was able to get google wallet working.

I completed the steps in the above mentioned thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1769083, and everything seems to be working ok. I have made a few purchases and it works, however I am thinking something is wrong.
Let me explain. When I go to make a purchase, it will make the POS machine flash/beep, etc., but then shows on my screen that the trans. may not be good/complete. The cashier continues the sale like normal, the receipt prints and all is good, but it just takes a min standing in line to make sure that all is well. Then after a while, the trans will show up in Wallet (on the phone) in the list.
Is this normal for you all?
Second thing is that I can't see my Google PrePay card in the online Wallet page. I can see the other cards that I have added in both places, phone and online, but I can't manage the new card that was given when I signed up. Therefore, I am stuck adding funds on the phone.
Should I do a reset? Will this lose the $ that I have added to the PrePay card, or will it magically pick it back up when I re-setup Wallet on the phone? I have read that I need to write down the card number (user ID) in case you need it, and I assume that this is one of those times.
Any ideas?
TIA for the help.
I'm not seeing it either unfortunately. I was just getting ready to try the workaround & then saw your post. Oh well, guess I'll still try the workaround.
Is it possibly just a regional thing? I read somewhere that they were getting ready to roll out ISIS in a couple of markets soon - is it possible that they unblocked Wallet in those markets to avoid the 'how do you justify blocking wallet as a security concern if you're now allowing ISIS' question?
Dunno.

There is a post in the general area about it thats where I heard it from but here is the link. When I go to the link it knows I have it installed properly it may take a bit before our S3's see it...

it does say it's not available on my carrier for everything but my S3 thats where it's installed the XDA way. but thats funny because my tablet is WI-Fi only so it should be able to install it to my tab...Check the general section...
