I've noticed both on my Archos 43 running 2.2 and my Epic 4G Touch running 2.3 that after a hard reset, apps moved to SD are still there, orphaned (i.e., unusable), taking up space.
I made CleanApp, a quick and dirty app that cleans up such orphan apps. Needs root, of course.
I haven't actually tested the latest version on 2.2, but only on 2.3. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. This is likely buggy. But I found it useful: it recovered 800mb on E4GT.
You think this would work on 4.1 JB?
I don't know. But you can run it and see if it shows any orphan files that look plausible to you.
This was needed badly thanks button hit! Bump

can't really say if it works on 4.1.1, but it installed, launched and said "no orphan data found". Anyway, thanks! Good job!
I've been having the constant warm reboots when powering on issue, and running CleanApp, which found about 160mb in orphan asec files, seems to have just helped me a bit. I still got some reboots but fewer.
Important note: If you run this too soon after a boot, and all the apps aren't mounted yet, it'll think some files are orphans which aren't.

I just picked up a Droid Charge a few weeks ago. I am digging the phone, but i am a long-time user switching from a Droid X which had 16gb internal storage. It is a brutal culture shock to say the least. I am always checking out new games and apps and have a significant collection. In other words, i need the storage! Especially since there are many apps and games that do not support move-to-sd card feature. Running out of storage was something i never had to even think about until now. It's really the only major gripe i have with the phone, but it's a major gripe considering the Charge only has a measely 1GB of internal storage. Ug.
Out of habit, i move all the apps to my SD card when i can. "When I can..." is the problem. I never had to use an "apps2sd" app before, but i've seen some versions for Froyo in passing. Now that i actually have a severe need to move some apps to the SD card (e.g. Let's Golf 2 - a fairly large game), i was having trouble spotting an apps2SD app that might work on Gingerbread.
[Q] Does anyone have a version (or know of a version) of an Apps2SD app that works for Gingerbread 2.3.4 (EP1F)? I am desperate to move some of these stubborn apps. It's gotten frustrating enough to tempt me into thinking about going back to my X. It would be wonderful if someone could help point me in the right direction!
For what it's worth i am on the leaked TW stock rom with 2.3.4 (+CWM+Voodoo) found in v2 of "The Charge Kit."
Thanks!
I agree!!! I recently got a Droid Charge myself and have grown more and more frustrated with having to constantly move every single app, no matter the size, to the SD card. It really is a pain. Sooo, if anyone has any suggestions, I'd really appreciate it too!
Thanx for posting about this, TheShade!

You can "force" apps to SD with Titanium Backup. However, the ones that don't support APP2SD will not run until you move them back to internal memory.
Also, I think you would be wise to request this to be moved to General. Lot more traffic there.

Thanks kvswim! Appreciate the suggestion.
Just wanted to say thanks again kvswim, for the suggestions. I have had Titanium for a while now. Shamefully, i had not fully explored some of the batch options. Tho I am still hoping to find a gingerbread version of an apps2sd app which allows u to force the stubborn apps to the sd card, Titanium has some nice options that I hadn't noticed before.
I was able to use Titanium to force-move Lets Golf 2 and some other larger games to the sd card. I am also able to run all of these games and apps with no problems. Sweet! This freed up quite a bit of storage for now. I have an even greater respect and appreciation for Titanium now.
Thanks, again!
Was just wondering why the a2sd functionality hasnt or is not being implemented into the roms being made for i727, is it just cuz its not needed or no one has achieve on implementing it yet?

Are you talking about apps2sd?? Because that feature has been built in for a while now. Just go to Setting > Applications > Manage Applications and click the tab On the top for "On SD Card".

I think he is referring to a2sd, the script that allows apps to go to sd card, regardless of if the app supports it or not. The script is called on phone boot up, before regular apps2sd, which overcomes some of the apps2sd problems, like widgets. I used that script on my Aria, as it had a very limited amount of internal space. However, I think it may have slowed down app load times slightly.
I haven't seen a script for it in the Skyrocket forums, but I have seen some market apps that can do something similar. Might look into that. I have yet to see a need for it on my Skyrocket, but then again, I don't have as many apps as I did on my Aria.

Gotcha! Yea I've actually never seen that. I guess since I've always had phones with 16 GB internal so have never seen a need for that. Apps2sd always seemed like it was meant for older gen phones that didn't have much internal memory.
Long time android user -- first post though
I got me a Galaxy tab 2 7" on Black Friday. I've tried about 10 ROMs on it to get a feel for what I want to settle with, currently trying out the Tsunami X ROM from Team Tsunami, so far liking it.
I'm having the same problem as others on AOKP or stock, can't move progs to SDcard. Seen similar posts from others, but none seems well answered (solved). Anyone can shed some light if there's possibly a good permanent solution for this? It seems CM9/10 solved this problem.
BTW I read a lot of posts around this issue, and I'm not looking for a workaround with DirectoryBind, rather a way to really move apps and their data to SDCard.
I actually quickly tried the ParanoidAndroid 10/31 build which is CM10 and the same issue exists. So AFAIK this is not only an AOKP issue. Anyone maybe with a CM10 ROM knowns how to get around this problem?

Unfortunately no. On other devices that's my choice of application to take care of this (even Titanium backup can do it well in bulk). But here the problem seems to be that the sdcard volume is not handled as a writable partition since ICS (not sure if every ROM, but certainly all that I've tried). Apps cannot be moved to SDCard, AppManager and Titanium tries and then when you refresh you see that the apps still sit in the internal memory.
Hi Guys,
I'm loving the CronosX RC2.1 rom, but it has one problem: I can't move my largest apps (like WhatsApp) to the SD card. There are but a few apps where the Move to SD button is not greyed out. When I install the CM7 mod it all works well.
Please help. I really like the speed of the CronosX mod, but this is a dealbreaker.
Guess I'll stick with CM7 then
Well since nobody seems to know the answer, I'll stick with CM7, even though it's sluggish and slow on this phone.
By the way, I've tried getting the overclocking to work, so I've tried modding the init.mapphone_umts.rc, and editing the scripts in init.d. The scripts in init.d seem to never load at all (for instance /proc/overclock is never actually created, and no changes made to the script 10overclock ever actually get updated to the device). Furthermore, there seem to be several lines in the init.mapphone_umts.rc that are duplicated just a few lines lower, and overclock.ko never gets loaded.
Anyhoo, it was a nice try.

I'm not asking for actual support, I was hoping there would be people with some experience with this phone. I'm betting there are still enough people who use what you call an outdated phone.
I switched to Cronos x since you mentioned it, its fast and sometimes crashes the camera, native app2sd sucks in this ROM. You have to install Link2sd as a system app and then install all your apps. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1519857&highlight=link2sd&page=26
If you like GB, this is a great rom not as fast but very stable. This and CM 6.3.7 are the best for me.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2181727

I've since switched to CM (too slow for my liking) and after that back to rooted stock, but the lack of functionality is really starting to bug me Thinking of switching back to CronosX and trying out the link2sd "hack". I've tried about 10 roms for my xt720 now and I still like CronosX the best, expecially now that I know how to fix the SD problem. Thanks for the info.

OK, I've got one that's been bugging me. I have a LOT of apps installed and if I have moved a number of the larger ones to the SD Card (to free up /data), once I get to greater than 1GB in android_secure, my phone fails to boot completely and just locks up. It's not the SD Card (32GB Class 10) that has errors (scanned with both Windows and 4Ext), just seems to be too much for the OS to handle.
I'm still running ShiftHackedA05P 2.8 (CM 2.7.3) from days gone by. Suggestions welcome. Thanks.
Edit: And I use Autostarts (Advanced mode) to turn off receivers for apps that I don't want to load, and LBE to disable permissions.
You might try using a Rom that has ext4 support since it supports larger file sizes.

Thank you for the reply, expert one
The folder has ~87 files of sizes 3MB to 40MB, which causes the lockup after booting at random times (sometimes it makes it further and ultimately boots, after MANY battery pulls). Once the folder is pared down to a lesser total size, the phone boots more rapidly and doesn't lock up; seems to be a linear relationship between how many files and the total time to boot until the CPU usage drops.
It might also be that most apps are moving away from app to sd since it isn't used as much anymore.

New issue, perhaps?, I am noticing that when LTE/CDMA mode my connection is showing as LTE only where it used to use ehrpd for transport and thereby still keeping 3g radio enabled. Normally no big deal but at times I am unable to send/receive texts or make/receive phone calls. Has Verizon stopped using this middle transport for LTE? I am unsure why I am always showing LTE only and if this is causing a problem. Switching to CDMA (auto prl) is the only remedy that I have found. Any thoughts?

Not really a problem but I noticed a thread that mentioned A LOT of older devices getting a port of KitKat...any chance that could happen with this old relic? Other HTC phone with some sort of working KitKat are: Sensation, Desire HD, Vivid, Raider, Evo, Amaze and Incredible S...or at least that is what this site claims.
Oh, sorry, I'm new here so I can't post the link.
Santod was working on a KK ROM but since he has newer devices as many of us old bolt users do he puts it on the back burner because the demand for it just isn't there anymore. Be patient and maybe eventually you will see one. Or you won't....

I just saw where Droid Incredible 2 has a fully functioning CM 10.1 rom. Just wondering if that could be possible for us since DINC 2 has same processor, same resolution, same manufacturer, same everything except 4G. I'd love to have CM10.1 if it meant sacrificing 4G (or even all data).
I'm new to all this, but if you think a port is possible or maybe some other way to get this on our device I will give it 100% effort.
If it can't be done then crush my dreams now and I will somehow learn to live without my TB.
Thanks.
Porting the dinc2 ROM breaks data for the bolt since the bolt has an svdo radio setup. I have ported from it before and I either had calling with no data or just data. I'm not saying it couldn't be done but it is out of my area of expertise. Go to infectedrom. com and there is a cm10.2 build made by Santod that has working WiFi. Since data doesn't seem to be an issue for you.

New to xda so can't post in the original thread, but I need info on the thunderbolt tool. I have used it before with great results, now trying to root my other TB and old vesion won't update and new download won't unzip (reads no files when extracting).
if anyone has any ideas i could use the help. I want to upgrade my other TB to the ICS rom that santod posted but i am dependent on its wifi tether and want to have a backup device if any problems a cure (doubtful, as the instructions seem strait forward).

It could be closed for any number of reasons. Cjen isn't a developer by any stretch of imagination. He's the same guy that kanged CM, and liquidsmooth code in the past in roms he called "liquidsmooth remastered", etc. He basically kangs roms, adds and removes apps, then rereleases them himself as though he built them, all without providing the source that would show no commits made by him. The irony is, liquidsmooth 3.2, CM7.2, And thundershed actually worked perfectly for the most part, his so called rom doesn't... If you're interested in gingerbread AOSP roms for the bolt, i'd stick with thundershed and liquidsmooth. At least workshed's and team liquid are real developers and their roms worked...
