Atrix 2 has a Yellow Display? - Motorola Atrix 2

Hi all .. ! I moved from Defy to Galaxy S2 then to Atrix 2 and so far i noticed the three have different displays. As far as i know, there is probaly 2 types of displays. The Blue Displays, common in AMOLED, and the Yellow display. Is that true? Because i could notice a very big difference. GS2 has a more blueish tinted display while the A2 is more yellowish, nly noticeable in White/grey backgrounds. I took a look at the defy and colors looks normal, it gets solved with screen adjuster, but with it other problems arrives..! I think that this is a normal thing.. But disappoints me.. Main reason by wich i bought it is the Display, i love qHD 4.3 LCD with Normal RGB , i like more 720p displays, of course, but this was what i was looking for.. if this is a faulty display then i should move and ask for another one may be.. what do you say guys? have you noticed that comparing to others displays?

I think the superoled displays on all the samsung's have a yellowish display. That said in a week with any display it will look normal to you.

Actually the SuperAmoleds that the sammys have are a blueish tint, not yellowish... the a2 has a slight yellowish tint that has been noted here before and like you said it seems to sort of disappear with more use though.

I was just saying that you will get use to any phone you get. I'm thinking of getting a SGSII. The only other android I've had was the G1. There's so many rom's for them that you could flash a new one everyday for a year. I thought all androids were like that. I'll never get moto again.
Sorry for my rant.

Oh I loved my G1... I have had so many androids it is not funny.. I still have my tellus hero that I used on ATT. that has been my backup for a good number of years now.
Yeah you can get an sgs 2 for pretty cheap and they have the real Cyanogenmod and jelly bean/ CM10 will be on the sgs 2 soon enough.

Galaxy SII is a very good device! I still have it as my main phone. The only things i dislike of SGS2 is the screen, the quality of the plastic, its super light weight and its too thin. I lile heavy and good loking premium devices.. thats why i bought my A2 and love it. Jim you are right.. its getting normal with the time.. I wish Oficial ICS OTA comes out soon.. Our phone will be amazing even more than now. Motos ics updates are awesome.. so close to stock android.. thanks to the hardware of a2 we'll enjoy a similar performance as in Galaxy Nexus.

I bought A2 from USA n m stayin in India
I observed there's no Yellowish tint on Indian A2 launched around march end

You guys are scaring me!! I thought i have a good eye sight!!
anyways tested my A2 with Display testerfrom the google play and i didnt see any yellow tint..

Yeah its really yellow compared to AMOLED, but id rather have a yellow screen any day over a pentiled blue one, haha.

Is the Atrix 2 really not a pentile display? From my understanding it's the same LCD in the Photon and DROID Bionic (connector and dimensions are all the same). If so, I might have to get an Atrix 2 display and put it in my Bionic. I got my wife an Atrix 2 yesterday and did notice that the colors were a little bit better.

Engadget says this:
First, while both Atrix devices (Atrices?) take advantage of qHD displays with 960 x 540 resolution, the newer one looks better despite having a larger display to hold the same number of pixels in. This is mainly because HelloMoto opted not to use the Pentile matrix scheme, which is something that the company has elected to do on most of its qHD screens -- including the first Atrix and the Droid Bionic.

Definitely not Pentile in the Atrix 2. That was the main reason that I returned my Atrix 1 on day 29- I couldn't un-see the screen door effect.
Let us know how that bionic screen swap goes, if you end up trying it.
The Atrix 2's screen is more "warm white" than it is yellow per se. Whenever I see my friend's amoled phone I'm stunned at how blue cold the color is.
Me: "Is it supposed to look like that?"
Friend: "Like what?"

I have an Atrix 2 display at work, so I'll try it today as long as I have the time. I'll take pictures.

Hmmm...it must be that they actually sent us a DROID Bionic display instead, because it still shows the pentile effect. I had actually tested the screen (without close examinations) in an Atrix 2 before, so the screens are interchangeable at least.

Yeah, just a little bit, the yellowish tint all over white/grey background doesnt bothers me at all, i just thought i had a defect in the display, i examinated it closely the day i bought the A2 to see if there is something wrong with it to take it to the seller in case that something is wrong. Hey guys, am i the only one who check for updates everyday after work? Lol, damn, i want official ICS in my Atrix!

Hmmm, the Bionic, The first Atrix and the Photon, also the Razr, Razr Maxx, Droid 3, Droid 4, have Pentile Matrix Layer, its a RGBW Layer, wich is Thinner i guess, so i think it won't work, you can try if you want.. here is something interesting to read about Pentile

It will work (at least a Bionic/Photon LCD does work on the Atrix 2).

Will I like the G2x?

Currently have a Nexus S and I just ordered a G2X, if someone has compared them both. What do you think? Is the G2X a upgrade to the Nexus S? I'm in a good place because I can always hand down whatever device I don't want to keep or return the G2X for the Sensation. What are your opinions on the G2X hardware wise? The G2X will probably be stock for like 5 min. as I plan on putting whatever rom is hot atm. Please help I'm torn between the two lol.

There are lots of NS owners and they say the screen is brighter and more detailed.... and much much faster.
Coming from the Nexus line, it flashes and everything the same way. No using special software to flash or anything. Just root, download Rom Manager, and flash.
The Sensation has an encrypted locked bootloader so chances of it having custom roms is slim-to-none.
Plus Tegra 2 dual-core is faster. HDMI out is fun. You'll like it.
Yep.

I was about to pick up a G2X recently. I talked to a person in the store returning their G2X which had horrid back light bleeding. I'm learning that this issue is inherent to this models screen to varying degrees depending on your luck. The screenshots I've seen being sent to LG support don't look good either. Whats the consensus here?

this is more how i feel as well...
while it is an issue, some phones are worse than others for sure... My phone has what I would consider average bleeding for an LCD screen, i have a bit of bleed in the upper left corner and a smaller bit on the lower left... at 100% brightness on total black they are both noticeable but not like rays of sun protruding out the sides... on 50% you can see them if you are looking for them and lowest brightness they are totally unnoticeable...
now, i watch movies at night all the time and i keep my brightness settings on automatic so when i watch my movies that have dark edges and such the brightness is typically very low thus the bleeding goes unnoticed... never have i needed to watch a movie with max brightness in the dark, the only time i would noticeably see the bleeding... if i do max brightness during the day while watching something then i still dont notice the bleeding cuz the natural daylight blends it out...
point being, there are very few scenarios where you will even come in contact with the bleeding if its not so bad that your whole screen is turning yellow, which i have seen lol
its all a matter of what you can tolerate in the end...
Yes. It's a great phone, even with the old software, and when the tasty gingerbread update drops it will be better.

Agreed, though I am on my 2nd G2x. No issues at all. Minimal bleed in the top left and right corners, but not really noticeable except on the splash screen, boot animation, and power-off animation. I had an EVO for almost a year, and it had the same issue. Never noticed it with normal usage, even rockin' a gingerbread rom w/ the black status bar.
My first looked like the screens in this thread: http://www.lgforum.com/forum/boards/carriers/t-mobile/topics/g2x-screen-separating-from-body
Clearly defective, so I sent it back and got a new one. Very satisfied now.
Thanks for the opinions of the backlight bleed guys. I'm just worried coming from a SAMOLED screen on the Vibrant, that I would be very disappointed. I'll give it more consideration.

I came from an AMOLED on a Nexus 1 and while it was not a SAMOLED i still think i prefer the LCD over LED given the current tech... the pentile matrix of LED drove me nuts, everything looked grainy to me regardless of the vibrant colors and deep blacks... LCD looks sharper and more natural... I have great eyesight so I am nitpicky about quality and clarity on my screen
I came from the vibrant also and I wonder what everyone was on about. While I like the colors of the vibrant, the g2x still looks bea-utiful! Lcd screen bleed isnt so bad. specially with the lights on.
Unlike a ugly chick you dont have to turn out the lights to use it!

I'm never going to a non OLED screen again

But maybe we are just used to under-saturated displays?
I'd rather get a screen that's more power efficient. Especially with white background.

Exactly. Most people are used to washed out colours from LCDs, so they see nothing wrong. But it isn't for nothing that TV manufacturers are always trying to push the vibrant colours of their screens.
For me, ever since getting the uberawesome GNote, I can't stand the faded looking colours of regular LCDs.
Besides I like screens with really nice blacks and colours that look alive.. So SAMOLED HD FTW....
I agree, the rich deep blacks on OLED screens really do spoil you.
Yep, I have a SGS and whenever i look at phones with non OLED displays I pity them. My friend has the SGS i9003 ( the one with S-LCD display) and we compared them side by side, the SAMOLED screen looks WAY better than SLCD. ( more than 6 people were there and we all agreed). Its all about the blacks baby ..
how would the screen of the arc s be rated alongside these phones???
I agree ,the Oled display use less baterry power than other displays, and i love it..
It's just sad whenever I show my screen to some1 who bought a phone and said "It was cheap, it is small, and it's not heavy." And they see my GNex, and they say "Awh, me wun that scweeeeeeeeeeeen." All I can say is.. Pwned by low-end.
I agree OLED is best solution, even if the color is not as real as some others LCD, but I think this will be solved in a near future.
Just think that Samsung, that is the 1st word producer of LCD displays, has just started the spin-off of the LCD department and has declared that the future of his research is on OLED. Say also that Samsung is going to spend a pharaonic amount of money in research for the next year, I'm looking forward to see results.

Need new phone, One S ?

I currently got the HTC Desire HD and kinda love it. But it starts to get too slow, battery gets worse and so I thought about getting a new phone.
The HTC One S looks nice, perfect size, good performance, good camera and due to the AMOLED it looks like the battery last long enough as well.
But how does the AMOLED display quality look like compared to e.g. my Desire HD ? How abour reading from the display at sunny days?
Thanks

The display is great and one thing, which definitely deserves more praise rather than just being slated by a number of people and review sites. Sure the screen isn't as good in terms of sharpness and screen real estate compared to the GS 3, one X, GN and SE phones due to the 720P res. but the colours of it are superb and IMO better than the GN (too dull), GS 2 (too over saturated), SE phones (personally not really keen on their displays when it comes to the colours) and also the GS 3 screen, but the best thing about the one S screen is just how good it performs when in sunlight (as in sun shining right on the screen), I can see stuff (even on black backgrounds) without even having to squint my eyes (and that isn't even with 100% brightness, only like 70% brightness selected) where as with the GS 2 etc. I always have to cover it slightly with my hand in order to make a text or website etc. out. And with my S, there is no yellow/blue tints at all, no matter what brightness I put the mobile to, whites are extremely bright white (better than my dell U2311H), this will vary from unit to unit though.
IMO the desire HD has one of the worst displays ever, colours are extremely washed out, viewing angles are non existent, and it isn't that sharp either.
I do notice the pentile matrix, however, I only notice it when I have my face right up to the screen or am really concentrating on trying to spot the effects of it. The most noticeable areas I notice it are on the notification icons and white/grey text on black backgrounds.
From one of the best sites when it comes to hardware stuff and so knows what they are talking about:
I’ve griped about PenTile RGBG before on this panel and other SAMOLED displays, but I find the One S to be completely enjoyable in spite of having it thanks to two things. First, how well HTC has controlled the panel (no awful hues, weird white points, or dramatic shifts as you change brightness) - this is basically the best I’ve seen this particular panel, and until SGS3, the best I’ve seen AMOLED in general. Second, because HTC doesn’t appear to be applying any processing that applies sharpening (like Samsung’s mDNIe) to text.
How you feel about PenTile really is the final factor: it’s there, but I’ve slowly become accustomed to it after staring at it for so long. If you go back to the Nexus S days, I was one of the most outspoken critics because of how large those subpixels were. With small enough subpixels (below visual acuity), PenTile starts to make sense. In other news, HTC moving back to Samsung AMOLED for phones is an interesting move after supply issues forced HTC to SLCD with some earlier phones, here on the HTC One S however, it looks great.

Imo, I would get the OneS if I were you.
I also came from the DHD, an moved forward after the no update fiasco.
I am on pre-pay and did not want to sign a contract again, actually ever but that's another issue, so I shopped around for the OneS on sell in different places. I could not swing full retail so I looked for NIB phones that are turned over fast.
Well long story short is, I looked and looked for a slightly used phone and never scored one sadly, I would up grabbing a OneX NIB for under 400 and couldn't say no to that price.
However I still like an want a OneS, nice form factor coming from the DHD and really is a sharp looking phone.
Would I suggest one to my friends, in a heartbeat.

If memory serves me right, the rezound's LCD is simply superior compared to amoled, even if you only look at the ppi. How HTC got so much right in a phone that's a year old with the rezound still amazes me.
I will admit the Rezound screen is very nice. I do wish the S3 was full RGB stripe. Even so, the S3 screen is FAR from pixelated. If you think this screen is pixelated you have some kind of super vision or something because it is VERY sharp. Plus you have to take into account this the Rezound has a significantly smaller screen.

I will take more contrast and darker blacks over a shaper duller screen any day. The S3 screen is beautiful. I had the SGS2 as well with a Super Amoled Plus screen and the S3 looks just as good the naked eye, unless of course you put you eye onto the screen to see it.

I didn't buy a phone with a humongous screen like the S3 just so I could "look really really close" for pixels..
The screen is fine and actually more colorful than the Rezounds..

Colors are almost fake looking at times on the s3. Rezound was real looking

LOL! How do you fake colors?
Judging by the photos in this thread, the colors seem more vibrant and you get deeper blacks with the S3..

you fake colors by amoled not having the correct colors, period. it's well known that amoled screens are way too oversaturated compared to lcd.

What is 1.5 and 1.7?
And as far as yellowish screen is concerned, I also have this issue with my phone (S3). I read some other users also reported it.
When viewing the screen, it looks a bit yellowish, however if i tilt it a bit forward or backward, the yellowish color goes away and white looks bright and pure white.
My phone also has JB. I got this phone already upgraded to JB, so not sure whether the same thing was on ICS or not.

1.5Ghz Snapdragon S4, 1.7Ghz Snapdragon S3.
I have the S4 and I have no problems with the colours from the display, white is definitely white, just the bloody RGBG display that HTC fitted is my only complaint with the screen.

Oh okay, he was talking about the processors . I thought some software version he was talking about.
Anyway it seems that some units have this yellowish screen issue, I read somewhere one S4 user also had a same issue with his phone's display. I have S3 phone, and same issue.
And what is wrong with RGBG display? I mean what change does this type of display do?

I reckon it's just Samsung sending HTC some dodgy displays. Luck of the draw I suppose, the processor plays no part.

http://www.wikitech.hu/uploads/2012/01/rgb-stripe-vs-rgbg-vs-rgbw-pentile.png < This is a image of digital screen display matrix'. The top one is the conventional display that the large majority of all digital displays use. The bottom two are Samsung's new PenTile displays. The main purpose of them is to save battery (which is why most people were staggered by the battery life of the One S on stock ICS). Basically, you only got 2/3 of a pixel on each pixel, because either red or blue has been sacrificed. The HTC One S has the middle one, the bottom one is used on a couple of Motorolas, the point of that display is to give superior performance in bright light.
Yeah seems processor has nothing to do with yellowish display. Only some units have it and unfortunately my phone is one of them. I do not like the yellowish screen, white looks beautiful.
And thanks for the display info

You could purchase a LCD screen made for the HTC Sensation/Sensation XE. Same screen size, same resolution, fits into the slot, and it is a proper RGB display, so you will notice the difference. Your battery life will decrease a little bit though, and obviously, the warranty is void if you open the phone up (although you have probably already made it void by unlocking the bootloader)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HTC-SENSA...K_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item2ebce9c4b1 £19.95 from eBay, although it is debatable whether you would trust something from eBay.

Well, instead of changing the display, i would rather prefer a new phone. I recently got this phone (in feb), quite satisfied with its overall performance except the display and some lags in games (esp subway surfer, most others run smoothly) in JB update. But that is okay now. Will use this phone for coming months then i might think of getting a new one. May be nexus 4 or some other phone.

I would definitely get the HTC One (M7 version). That will be a mighty beast of a phone. However, my Business Studies teacher has the Nexus 4, and he uses it for the projector, and that thing is lightning quick. For the price that it is available at direct from Google play, you definitely cannot go wrong.

Htc one would be expnsive for me. I prefer a mid ranged phone. If SGS III price drops a bit more, i would probably get it.
Nexus 4 isnt officially available in Pakistan, but local dealers have it. But right now it is a bit over priced here in Pakistan. Its price is dropping, and hopefuly will adjust in next few months. In fact one of the jnline shops (in Pakistan) also recommended to wait if u want to get it in good price.

If amazon or play.com do deliveries to Pakistan, then I would definitely check both of them if I were you. You won't find many legitimate offers cheaper than on them two websites.
