i've just gone and bought me a sensation xl. and although through comparison they appear to be somewhat alike... besides the two "XL" letters added and a larger screen...
can i assume the roms created for the sensation will install just fine on my sensation xl?
please advise.
To start off this thread should have been started in Q&A section. To answer your question, I really advise against it. The normal Sensation and its variants are dual core with different clock speeds. They all have the same processor. The XL has a single core, bigger screen. I highly doubt Sensation ROMS will work on the XL. If I recall correctly there's a separate forum for XL
Try there
Plus sensation has qhd screen resolution and xl has wvga screen resolution , either way you 'll have some resizing to do, next time search, instead of opening useless threads in wrong section

I suggest you go to the sensation xl forum instead if to compare the device it's closest to desire hd, but don't go post there, sensation xl forum it's on xda

Is it worth getting. I never owned a Samsung phone but I'm considering it. I'm tied of htc and the craps quality jobs they do with their phones. The dust, the reception, death grip, sense slowing down the phone and also keeps reloading everytime I hit the hone screen.
no dont do it!! now the prime that might be something that could draw your interest
If you have the sensation getting the s2 is a downgrade.

because i own an htc sensation and im very unhappy with it and i know if i ask this in the gs2 forum their just going brag about how good the phone is. So id prefer to hear it opinions from someone who owns the sensation also
For your sense issue, you might want to try another launcher like launcherpro or adw

That doesn't mean it will remove the sense from your phone.
I suggest using aosp roms from xborder or cm7.

No it's not.
Going from the Sensation to the Galaxy S II is in fact a huge upgrade.
I'm not saying the Sensation is bad, i'm just pointing out that the Galaxy S II is pretty much better than the Sensation in almost everything.

my sensationwith ARHD 4.1.3 is running perfect.
Please explain only upgrade is the 4.5 screen which isn't that much of a upgrade because its wvga with lower resolution then sensation qHD

fook know's lol,the advert i've seen is some sky divers with the phone and it shows him taking a video, then takes a pic whilst recording lol, sure u can find the advert on google, and it's cos i like my fone to be up to date,my hd2 was a desire s,then a htc sensation, sensation xe,then a sensation xl,was even tempted to make it like a samsung galaxy s2 lol,but had 2nd thoughts lol
if I recall correctly, the sensation doesn't have the hardware to do so. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but as of right now you can't use that, unless some awesome dev somehow makes it function
All sense 4 roms have ability to take a pic while recording. all phones from one series has that. but I think it's cemera hardware isue on one serie with some special chip. so I don't think that will work on other phones
Well i've just tried makin a video, but defo CANNOT TAKE A PIC lol,so plz plz show me a sense rom, link anythin with the option cos personally,we all no that isn't available yet or else we'd all av it

Wow. People. The Sensation does not have the camera hardware needed to take pictures and video at the same time. We can port software until we are blue in the face but without the hardware it won't matter. You all should learn a little about what you are doing to your $600.00 phone before you start flashing and bricking your phones.

guys i have the option to get a new phone and im looking to get either the sensation for free or the one s. i just dont know if the one s is really worth the upgrade it or should i just stick with the sensation thats free till a better htc phone comes out?
im worried about development for the htc one s cause the sensation has a lot of support in this forum and a lot of roms and im scared the one s isnt gonna get as big as the sensation.. what are your takes?
thank you
I personally don't see any upside to the One S honestly. No storage extension, a non-removable battery, not a quad core. If you're looking for sense 4 the sensation has some stable and fast ported roms from the HTC One S.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA
thank you man thats what i was thinking as well. i just dont know how stable the sense 4 for sensation is but ill look into it.
I just tried CoinDroid as my first Sense 4 ROM today - so far so good! No stability issues at all, and the camera's burst shots is DAMNED FAST.

Both are still qHD. Amoled or not is simply a matter of personal preference.
The One S not having quad core is in fact better. (S4 > T3) Pretty much the only thing that appeals to me is the S4 in the One S.

i currently have both the sensation and htc one s
and i have to say that HTC ONE S IS FRUSTRATING when trying to root , backup, restore or anything
the sensation was so good to me.
but the htc one s is faster than the sensation.
there is one bug with the htc one s when rooting and flashing to a diff rom is that wifi doesnt work. and i need my wifi.
if u r thinking on upgrading dont go for the htc one. SUCKS honestly.
stick to the sensation!

Between the two the non-removable battery is a deal breaker...
just my .02
One S has much better camera if that is important to you. I mean the actual sensor itself. Great in low light situations. However you're stuck with about 10 gig of user space and that can be kind of crippling with no external sd card. With the Sensation I have a 32 gig sd card which is great but I wish my camera sensor was better. Especially in low light.
HTC really likes to stick us between a rock and a hard place sometimes!

not worth change xl
No. The XL has last generation specs. Poorer screen, slower CPU, gpu.

Kidding of course, everyone has another taste. But it takes a lot of ba**s to buy this phone with poor specs
If you like heavy gaming and multitasking wich are not problem for the XL right now you should change it.

I've been wondering about the camera quality of different HTC phones. I've used a desire HD, Sensation 4G and a HTC Vivid and all those had 8mpxl snappers , I've ordered a one x off ebay and it too has a 8mp camera, (camera in One x is loaded with features though) Are there any real difference in quality?
I've been using xda for over a year and today I thought why not be part of the community. So here I am,
Don't you remember what HTC kept yelling a few months back?
Pixels don't matter!!
But seriously, you should notice a huge uptick in photo quality in comparison to those devices listed. I believe an HTC device that comes close, but not to par, with our camera is the HTC Amaze 4G, a little while ahead of the devices you mentioned.
Here's the HOXL thread for community contributions of their photos, you'll find these all over XDA likely in their specific device forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1639324
I'm guessing with the more popular international HOX, there's a way more active thread that you can use to aid your comparison.
Also, here's a comparison thread between the Sense camera and AOSP camera I started a while back, in case you're interested.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1943160
As I have stated in various threads the HOXL has one of the worst cameras I have ever used. The color balance of the stock photo app is terrible regardless of how you set it - the skin tones are either too red at the default saturation or too gray one ticket down. There is NO happy medium, with the exception of blazing sunshine outdoors. You can make passable images if you either tweak the colors after the fact, eg with the mobile version of PS or with a photo app that gives editing options immediately after taking a shot. And the front camera is worse than useless unless you clean the lens at least once a week. I seem to be in the minority here, yet most people I would send pics to would tend to make similar comments.

Your opinion is definitely in the minority.
@OP
I've owned 2 of the phones you mentioned and the One XL camera is definitely an improvement. It does have some minor issues with low light and some indoor lights but it's still easily the best phone camera I've ever used.
The camera is good no doubt. But I miss using the image sense chip. Until there is a 4.2.2 version sense, I will not cone back. The updated stock camera app and frame work is awesome. However the generic android camera app is good too. In my opinion I think sense has the edge sense the software is built around the hardware obviously. That's just me though. But to non-photographers like me, the camera will suit you just fine and your draw will drop.
