Can I flah kernel then rom before rebooting? Or should I flash rom reboot, then flash kernel?
Doesn't matter as far as I'm concerned. Wrong section. This should be in Q&A forums.

Yeah, wrong thread but you can flash kernel straight after or you can reboot then flash the kernel. Doesn't matter.

I am using samsung Vibrant. I saw a post for a new cm7 tron rom posted today. I wanted to ask if you have to do anything special to flash this rom? There are no instructions. Is there anything special to flash, or just use clock work recovery,
and wipe first, then flash rom, then wipe cashe, then wipe davik, fix permissions is the way I flash all roms .
Thanks
You will get more responses if you post this in the vibrant forum

just wipe data, system, boot, cache, dalivik install the rom then gapps its pretty much the same process on any phone.
Also cyanogenmod should have a wiki if it supports your phone.

Make sure you have newest version by flashing through ROM manager.

He can't boot, therefor can't use ROM manager. Flash recovery.img from fastboot. You can find CWM recovery images here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988686
If you don't know how to use fastboot and flash from it, just search xda, and you'll find many guides ...
Good luck!

In your signature it says that your phone is an Xperia X8 so i recommend you use the right forum to ask questions as they are both very different phones.
Anyway, Odin is a program on windows that allows you to flash a ROM on Samsung mobiles (only).
Certain kernels can be flashed through CWM i think. Check on the G3Mod Kernel thread for more information.
CWM can be installed without a PC i think but you need a few files that you have to message 'Mumbozver' for since he is the person who made CWM work on the Samsung Galaxy 3. Then you will be able to flash a kernel using the update.zip method and if you flash a G3Mod kernel, then you will be able to use Multiboot to boot up a custom ROM.
All the information will be on the G3mod thread, first page so go there to start off and message mumbozver for the CWM files.

Yes, message a user named 'Mumbozver' for the files and also the instructions on how to install it.

Try to use a pc for about 10min. Just flash via odin one packagr. Lots of samsung phones use odin to flash roms and kernels. Kernels csn be flashed thru cwm in the .zip format

I don t think there is any other way. You need a PC so that you can flash G3Mod kernel. It has CWM recovery built in. Or you need to flash some ROM which has built in recovery.

Wouldn't recommend ICS as it is only the first test build and not much is working right now.

I have Gingerbread on mine. Is there a custom recovery and roms for this yet or do i have to wait? If there is i cannot find them and that is why i am asking.
Did you not look in the dev section? They have been there for a couple months.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
where have you been looking. All are in the dev section. Flash the kernel by Bhundven (Beta 2c) not Beta 3, then flash AOSP Style, then flash the Beta 2c kernel again, this time you can do it from CWM.
You will be on the latest version of GB (and Greatest) I created the rom, LOL!
all of the recoveries i have found are from froyo or do not work on my phone because of not being signed properly?
Do you have a sgs4g? If so flash a modded kernel through Odin and you will have cwm recovery.

This is the newest kernal. Start with it.

Then you can flash the custom roms.

Hello I just got the one s I have rooted and s-off. I have seen that you have to flash the kernel (boot.img) via fastboot or use the flash img Gui app witch extracts the kernel from the Rom .zip and instals then you install the Rom after. Witch I have done with the cm 10.1 and the viper rom. qustion is do I even need to worry about flashing the boot.img if I am s-off? Thanks for the help in advance.

No you don't need to use flash image GUI or fast boot, just flash a ROM straight from recovery
