Hello I just got the one s I have rooted and s-off. I have seen that you have to flash the kernel (boot.img) via fastboot or use the flash img Gui app witch extracts the kernel from the Rom .zip and instals then you install the Rom after. Witch I have done with the cm 10.1 and the viper rom. qustion is do I even need to worry about flashing the boot.img if I am s-off? Thanks for the help in advance.

No you don't need to use flash image GUI or fast boot, just flash a ROM straight from recovery

Make sure you have newest version by flashing through ROM manager.

He can't boot, therefor can't use ROM manager. Flash recovery.img from fastboot. You can find CWM recovery images here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988686
If you don't know how to use fastboot and flash from it, just search xda, and you'll find many guides ...
Good luck!

Sorry, I'm a noob. Didn't see missing boot img in subject. Had problem flashing with ROM manager before until I updated Clockwork mod recovery. Thought it was similar problem. Lol. Duh.

Now that we have root for the 2.20 firmware of the One X one of the downfalls is having to flash a boot.img everytime we flash a rom. I know we can flashboot the boot.img but most of us are not always near a computer.
I emailed the developer for the app Flash GUI and asked if our ONE X will be added. He replied almost immediately and will add the ONE X but he needs testers familiar with adb.
I am not very good with adb so I am asking if someone with better skills then I to contact him and help get this going please. His name is Joey and he will be following this thread.

lets do this
I tried to test with him on irc but he wasn't there. Hopefully tomorrow.

App developers name is joey and he wants to test in irc on channel #gen-dev so if anyone catches him in there Go test it shouldnt take long. I know the 2.20 guys would love it

we did some testing and i think we got all the angles working. we can flash boot.img alone, boot.img in a kernel zip and boot.img in a rom zip.
also everyone should thank joeykrim for making Flash Image GUI and dorkboy69 for making this thread and getting support started.
Great news!

So we will be able to get a full rom.zip and flash it like prior to the new hboot?
I have been using the script with an terminal emulator but still had to have to boot.img separate.
This would be handy!

No this app will allow you to flash a kernel or boot.img from the phone before flashing a new rom. No need for a computer.

Does htc allow flashing system.img on BL unlocked devices from fastboot? If so, seems it would make sense to just do it all from there. GUI flasher could parse CWM standard zips and do it all from fastboot with no need to 2-step.

I don't believe so but I could be wrong. I just know that a boot.img has to be fastbooted before flashing a rom or kernel

Thanks to both DvineLord and dokrboy69 for helping test and post this thread!
I've released the official application, version 1.4.7 with support for the HTC One XL device.
Official thread is posted in the applications section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33463262
Are u flying yet system from fastboot always fails Sig. On unlocked too. Sense Roms it gives a file to large error....I tried with a moto-fastboot because it sends large files in 256mb chunks but still Sig fails....

app
App has been updated in play store and I used it to flash rohan kernel #4 on cm 10. For those new to this don't forget to extract the boot.img and put on the root of the sdcard.
This app works awesome, just flashed viper 2.1 and everything is good. Although it didn't reboot into recovery like it said it would so I had to do it manually
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda premium
Mine rebooted to recovery, did you select reboot to recovery or just reboot?
Sent from my One X using xda premium
with this app you don't have to extract boot.img from the zip
That disclaimer when you start it up is just warning us to make sure that we have unlocked our bootloader, right?

nope. use fastboot to flash recovery. nexus s hacks has links to everything you need. (USB & fastboot drivers, recovery img files, and su zip files)
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
replace the recovery.img with the actual filename of your recovery IMG file, then place the su zip on the root of your SD card & flash through recovery. I use cwm, but there are others available.

Maybe you can see in this wiki cyanogenMod ( iam sorry, i can not give the link because i have no permision to give the link
There's a lot instruction to instal android sdk, fastboot or instal CWM
Hello,
After installing 4.1.1 on my ville c2, i don' like it. So i restore my twrp backup of4.0.4. After restoring that, it said restore successful. But it did't go beyond the splash screen. So what should i do now. There's also one thing is that, there's no trouble with restoring the 4.1.1 twrp backup. Helpppppp

Use the one for TrickDroid 4 I believe it has the boot.img in another zip which can also help flash the boot.img for you too.
I have a rooted 4.3 Galaxy s3 with knox deleted yet I can't seem to be able to flash any simple custom rom like cm, I keep getting this error in CWM.

I support. This seems like a boot.img problem. Try to make it via PC while the phone is in fastboot mode.
This is for a galaxy s3, would download/odin mode qualify as a fastboot mode? :S

I would recommend using the latest twrp. I find it much more reliable than CWM. Just my two cents.

Make a flash able zip for boot.img.
.img cannot be flashed through custom recoveries. .
Only zip file can be flashed.

I used TRWP and compressed the boot.img into a zip to flash and attempted it but I get a failed message.... Should I just scrap it throw away the phone at this point? Nothing seems to work...
