nope. use fastboot to flash recovery. nexus s hacks has links to everything you need. (USB & fastboot drivers, recovery img files, and su zip files)
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
replace the recovery.img with the actual filename of your recovery IMG file, then place the su zip on the root of your SD card & flash through recovery. I use cwm, but there are others available.

Maybe you can see in this wiki cyanogenMod ( iam sorry, i can not give the link because i have no permision to give the link
There's a lot instruction to instal android sdk, fastboot or instal CWM

I had a similar issue. All I did was install rom manager from the market and flash clockwork recovery. Choose your phone type whether its the s or the s 4g and you should be good to go.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
its in /etc, you have to rename install.recovery.sh to something else. add .bak to the end of the file name. then flashing cw via fastboot will stick.
Yea I tryed installing cwm from the market and I get am error message when trying to flash a recovery

And when I installed the I lost rom manager and also lost my superuser

Okay, it sounds like you have no idea what you're doing because you didn't read the guide. Rooting this phone is so extremely easy.
boot into boot loader
fastboot oem unlock
then download recovery
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
then you can boot into recovery and flash custom roms
and also since you are posting here i'm sure you didn't read the rooting guide
Ummm... did you read my first post? I'm new to samsungs and the nexus I just came from the evo read before you speak

Here's how to fix your problem.
I ran into the same problem yesterday, it looks like you flashed the 2.3.5 ROM called Full Android. It seemed to have overwritten my recovery and is not a rooted ROM. Just reflash clockwork via the sdk and pick a rooted ROM, Pete Alfonso has a great stock rooted GRJ90 ROM fyi.
Follow the one click root way. Its easy did mine in 2 minutes yesterday. Its posted in the same forum, and also theres a video.

Make sure you have newest version by flashing through ROM manager.

He can't boot, therefor can't use ROM manager. Flash recovery.img from fastboot. You can find CWM recovery images here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988686
If you don't know how to use fastboot and flash from it, just search xda, and you'll find many guides ...
Good luck!

Can't get custom recovery

Hello I used super one click to get root.
I installed Root Explorer.
I know I have root because I get:
#
Then I type su and get
su
But when I try to open root explorer it doesn't prompt me su permissions.
Also ROM Manager won't flash recovery either.
Can anyone point me in the right direction

Download the app 'root checker' and use that to see if you really have root.

I use the root checker and it told me that I didn't have root.
I ran Super One Click and did the test again and still the same results.
I can get to su in adb but still can use any app that requires root or flash CWM Recovery.
I am going to try the video method u sent me.
I will post results.
Hopefully I can install the Maximus Ginger ROM.

Delete all the space in between
Its an all in one Root and Recovery...
Hope this helps those who had the same issues as me...

ROMs wont install
Ok so now I have ran my SK4G through odin 5 times...Going on 6...
Root and Recovery work perfectly with that method...
But everytime I install a ROM I get stuck at the boot screen with my sidekick vibrating and restarting....
Everywhere I read it talks about the Mounts... Yes I know they are very important...
So I make sure they are what they are supposed to be when flashing the ROM...
But once the ROMs install it reboots automatically and I cant change the mounts...
I have tried both Smooth Maximus and Maximus Ginger, Lightning ROM, and Clean Fusion...
The same thing happens to me after I install any of these ROMs....
It always reboots after the installation...
Has anyone ran into this issue or can help me figure out what to do now...
Thanks Guys
i tryed both oneclick and this way allinone i am rooted but cant ger recovery to work i get
andriod system recovery samsung recovery utils but not clock works
Yes! Thanks! I've been trying to get root access on my dads phone since we got it, still don't know why SOC worked on my phone and not his, but this solved the problem, thanks!

After you use the All in One download ROM Manager.
Then Flash the SK4G Recovery through there.
For some reason you have to reboot into CWM recovery only by using ROM Manager.
If you reboot manually or through adb you are going to have to choose install packages then CWM Recovery will load.
I am still stuck with no custom ROM...
every rom that I install soft bricks my device and then I have to use odin to restore.
Does anyone know of a ROM that I can flash through odin that is nice like Smooth Maximus or Similar?
Thanks

Have you already rooted? Lithium v1.2.1 is the rom I'm running currently. I like its look and feel. Its using Milestone Overclock to 1100MHz (but I've ramped it up to run 1250MHz stable) and has been de-bloated to a point I'm happy with.
As for signal, AT&T is and has IMO always been sketchy. I live in a 4G LTE area but my in my neighborhood I get one bar. Have to switch to Wi-Fi while at home. Not sure that a rom's radio build has anything to do with available signal strength from towers.

Once you have installed CWM Recovery, just find a rom in the development section threads (titled "[ROM] Whatever" ) and read the install directions. Some are recoveries, others are install zip from sdcard.

The ATRIX 2 Bootstrapper is the bootstrap, and the CWMOnBoot-Global-J.Y.Daddy.zip is the Clockworkmod Recovery used to flash/restore roms. If you're watching Mastermind278's YouTube videos, they're pretty easy to follow.
So, if you've already rooted, installed superuser, and the ATRIX 2 Bootstrapper, you need to do this:
From "My Files" on your device, scroll down to find the ATRIX 2 Bootstrapper.apk and click to install (if not done already).
Next, open the ATRIX 2 Bootstrapper. Superuser will ask to allow ATRIX 2 Bootstrapper for permissions, give it!
Click the 1st button, then the 2nd button.
Now, the ATRIX 2 Bootstrapper should boot you into recovery, where you need to INSTALL ZIP FROM SDCARD the CWMOnBoot-Global-J.Y.Daddy.zip.
This will install the CWM recovery on your device.
When done, reboot system.
Now, your device should boot into Android. From there, navigate back to superuser and DENY the ATRIX 2 Bootstrapper permissions! (THIS IS IMPORTANT TO GET THE CWM RECOVERY TO BOOT EACH TIME YOU EITHER REBOOT OR POWER ON!)
Should be good from there. Now you can find a rom you like and follow the install instructions on the thread for that rom
Hope this helps....

Find the link for the CWMOnboot-Global by j.y.daddy.zip, download it to your computer. Make sure USB DEBUGGING is enabled AND the UNKNOWN SOURCES boxes are checked. Then move the zip from your computer to root of SDCARD.
Make sure your USB setting is for MASS STORAGE.
After you copy the zip, select CHARGE ONLY in USB SETTINGS.
Now, in doing that, when you open the ATRIX 2 Bootstrapper recovery, you can choose the "install zip from sdcard" option to install the CWMOnboot-Global by j.y.daddy.zip.
This will install the needed Clockworkmod Recovery.

Great app but this isn't an official one.
The XDA thread has been closed and there's no update on Google Play for 2 months.
I don't know if jmz still has other projects... Flashify is also a great app to directly flash the img files without a PC.
I heard that
Code:

It doesn't hurt to know all the options and procedures. Actually OP would have already known this if he hadn't used a toolkit to root in the first place
-1 for toolkits
But yes, options are:
Fastboot flash img
recovery install zip
Flashify flash img
Thanks to all for the help suggestions , but yeah I used a tool kit which means I don't know how to do it manually that's why I asked for the easiest way to update .
