I know many users miss the on screen nav bar and are looking to enable it in the latest aosp builds popping up. Now, personally I am not a huge fan of it because it ends up taking up more space on the phone and I feel that isn't worth it. That got me thinking though, since we usually have space taken by the notification bar, why not merge the two into a hybrid and the space issue wouldn't be that big of a deal. In my concept I am only using the recent apps, menu, and back buttons. I feel that the home button is easily pressed and the only issue I have is with the side buttons.

I really like this. Good work.
That looks pretty neat! However, would there be a place to hold notification icons for a quick glance? And when there is a notification, will there be any indication on the screen? I know that some people (like myself) kinda like being able to glance at what's new wherever they are in the phone.
Also, if the phone was put into "Tablet Mode" like how Paranoid Android does it, I believe you get all of the softkeys and your notifications.
But don't get me wrong here, I still think you have a cool concept here!
Keep up the good work!

Yeah I saw the tablet mode ones but they just feel too squished to me in my opinion. I was looking to make more of a phone version. I completely understand on notifications. I'd say I would need to play with it a bit to find the best way to display them. Thank you for your words of encouragement

I don't know if this would be a personal preference deal, or functionality, but the black bar that the nav buttons sit in, does it have to be that huge? can it be slimmed down?
Else wise looks amazing!

I'm no real android dev/themer (and by the attached pic, no artist:silly but I do have an idea for the notifications:
You could perhaps have the color of one of the softkeys change if there is a notification waiting. Pretend a text just flew by, the recents key could change color to an assigned color (say red). That way, one would know that a new text has come by looking at a place they normally look at all the time, without opening the notification drawer. I some AOSP ICS roms, the option to change the color of the softkeys is present. This is where I get some of the idea from..
Just a thought though. (If you do use it, all I ask is for my name to be in the credits ) And I hope my using of your picture to demonstrate doesn't bother you. If it does, I'll remove it gladly .
EDIT: Oh wait, oops! I edited the wrong picture... My point was to not open the notification drawer haha... Just imagine it with the notification drawer closed....

You see the first N1, the interface looks really good and then if you read the comments from the user, it says:
"I also added the first look at the new Deep Blue user interface that will ship in a ROM update that has yet to be decided. For those who root, watch out for this one. It will be complete and may add a few new widgets you don't get with the stock Android interface. Please read the legal note below regarding the new interface."
There is also a legal notice on this so no one can copy this work....
So what do you guys think?

Hmm Gingerbread anyone ?
Doubt anything official would ever look like that, personally.
Really do NOT dig that dial-like theme...
I'd love to see it becoming real, but those pics are really old and still nothing....

looks great. does anyone know what that clock widget on the darker version is?
Seems like the dock at the bottom is a colossal waste of screen space for the number of buttons it has.

You guys are hilarious! Thanks to commenting on my theme. It WAS in development for Ultimate Droid Rom but Blackdroid and I kinda parted ways on a good note. So that leaves this theme in limbo. Anyone interested in working on making it a reality? Contact me at zandog (at) gmail dot com I also have a few more themes on my smartphone design concepts at zandog.deviantart.com

Found it on Google. MIUI is a full custom ROM for Snapdragon based phones. Look around YouTube and such for MIUI. It has custom menus for everything, including these and settings. Fully integrated. It's an awesome ROM, wish we had it here.
But thank you SO MUCH

Getting closer. So far only works on the extended menus.
Don't mind the background button on the menu in the second picture. That was left over from my first go around. It's gonna be removed tonight.

Wow that's actually really cool. But the thing is in MIUI it's always like that. I mean as soon as you press the menu key it looks like that.
I'll get those also. I just went after that one first since it was already a list style menu. I'll have to change the others to list menus also.

You are amazing man
So I've gotten the extended menus finished to where I like them. They pop up full width and only to the center of the screen and are scrollable. For the rest of the menus I'll have to learn/re-write the .smali files to make them draw out like the extended menus in a list style rather than a button style. Should be a long week.

You're my hero :')
Somewhere in the android world I have seen a picture of somebody using what appears to be a scrollable app launcher on their screen. This particular one was rounded and was on the side of the screen. Kind of like half of a rotary clock dialer, but instead of numbers it was apps.
Thanks for any ideas you have as to what I may be talking about!
Sounds like circlelauncher ...
Its half rotary cause the launcher is in the top, if its in the middle it will be full circle

That's not the exact one I was thinking of, but very similar.
The one I remember seeing I believe had a grey background and was only halfthe circle on either the left or right of the screen.
This one will work though if I can't find the one I was thinking of, though the one I remember looked better IMO. But it's possible it was just a particular rom feature.
Thanks!
Yeah...its pretty cool. It helps keep my screens uncluttered

I tried searching through every combination of app widget scrollable circular android launcher dock vertical horizontal I could think of. Am I making this up?
If I am, does anyone want to make one?
It kinda sounds like the wonder wheel feature on slickui b

not wonderwheel either :/
it's closer to this, if it was scrollable and ran more along the left and right sides of the screen.

Is that ultimate faves pro? If so, I was hoping what I was looking for was an actual widget and not a home replacement.
Small bump, still haven't found anything like I was remembering.
Would anyone be interested in making something like this?
It doesn't have to be curved or super fancy, but I'd love a widget (say 3 columns wide or 3 rows long) that I could place any number of apps into and scroll through them.
Of course after it gets made then it could be fancy, if somebody wished.
Not thinking of smart taskbar are you?
No it wasn't that one. Sorry for the long reply I thought I had this thread set up for notifications.
Hmmm I wonder if I just dreamed this.
I believe the app your talking about is called Clutch Pad by Steve Albright, it's available in the market for $1.99. Also, if your looking you something similar, but free, I'd recommend either Circle Launcher or SwipePad, both of which allow for launching apps without using the standard launcher.
One of the most annoying things about games on Android phones is that they are almost always full screen, and that means you can't easily check your notifications without leaving the game. Bird Bar helps with that by giving you the ability to pull down the notification bar without it being visible.
I'd love to hear your thoughts and feature requests since I always get the best feedback here.
The free version is really basic but in that it does exactly what I mention above and nothing more.
Free Version (no ads, no internet permission, no limits):
****FEATURES
**Simple swiping from any edge of the screen to show your notification drawer. Now you can check your notifications when you hear a sound or feel a vibration while you are playing a game without messing up your progress.
**No ads or internet permissions! It's not a shady app

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
With the premium version, you get a handful of new options.
**LOCATION ENABLER
Only enable the edges of the screen that work best for you. This reduces accidental swipes.
**SENSITIVITY
Is it harder to swipe on your device, then increase sensitivity. Too easy to trigger the notification, then decrease sensitivity. Pick whatever feels best for your device.
**START ON BOOT
Now you can have Bird Bar enable when you restart your phone, so you don't have to remember to enable it before you go into a game.
**VISIBILITY
Did you disable a few edges and forget which edge is still enabled? Then this option is for you! A thing bar will be shown on the edges of the screen that are activated for Bird Bar.
Premium: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mikedg.android.bar.premium&feature=search_result
There's a new lite version that adds another preset option which adds visible swipe zones along the top and top sides with higher sensitivity. This makes it a ton more usable for users with an onscreen keyboard and gives a taste of what's in the premium version

Swipe pad gives u shortcuts. This one allows you to access notifications ala Apple's iOSv5 version of notifications.
Very very usefull!
Big Thanks!
Thanks for the explanation Ken. I don't seem to be getting notifications for this thread.
The latest version adds some Honeycomb fixes, even thought it's not really worth using on Honeycomb devices because you always have access to the notification area.
The premium version also adds MORE customization like resizing and anchoring.
I've also confirmed that it works with swipepad and wavelauncher and other swipe from screen edge type apps.

I've got the paid version and I'm trying feedback but neither of your email addresses work, the one in the graphic above matched the one the PAID app itself provides. This is different from that in the Android market, my emails to both get rejected, you you please check the email address in the app and in the market (and graphic above) and fix them, thanks.
Sorry about the email problem. I'm looking into it now. I didn't dissappear!
I'll look into your other issues at soon as I fix the email too and respond via the email you found [email protected] for now
this looks great, is it compatibel with miui?
It should be compatible with MIUI. If it isn't just email me for a refund if you buy the premium version. But please use my personal email address until I get my DNS issues squared away

If you are interested in seeing more of my KLP concept, click here to go to my Google+ page,
I got bored today and decided to draw up a similar concept to Jinesh Shah’s KLP concept... There were a few things I didn't really like on his concept but overall, the idea was great; not to mention, clean. So I will be whipping up personal concepts (and possibly into a ThemeChooser theme) of KLP.
Feed back would be nice! At some point I will upload the PDF's for anyone to tinker with, not that anyone would.
I'll be adding more concept pictures as I go. I'll probably do the dialer next, along with the lock screen following.
Cheers!
