Help with overclocking.

I'd like to know if anyone has made a kernel that supports overclocking past 1.68 Ghz, and what app they use for controlling the core voltages.. I've used SetCpu, Antutu, and Voltage Control, but neither of them seem to do anything regarding controlling core voltage.. Help me out people, and I'll try to return the favor!

Does he have kernels for 1.68+ ghz? All I've seen is 1.68 max.

There are no kernels over 1.68 Ghz becuase they would be unstable. In my case, I cannot go over 1.6 Ghz without my tablet hard resetting. So the answer to that question is no.

I love Setcpu because you can easily control the voltages, your kernel must support it thought. For example, I am running Clemsyn's and his DOES allow voltage modifications.

I'm running the blades kernel right now. And I think if someone created a test kernel, my Transformer could run about 1800mhz.. I run 1680 all day long, stress tests only get to 56 degrees celsius, and I have an extra 50 or 100 mV left until I hit the 1500mV cap.

Overclocking

To those rooted users, are you overclocking, undervolting? What app / method are you using? How is it working for you in terms of stability and battery life?
I just installed EZOverClock, set at Power Save - 1ghz. This is an overclock app for the Prime that works on our device as well. If you are interested in checking this out, the apk can be found here:

I am hoping for some solid battery savings without compromising performance on games such as MC3.

I find it hard to believe that I am the only one overclocking this device?

I'm underclocking using system tuner pro, setting max cpu at 880mhz when not playing games. As for undervolting afaik is not possible yet, at least in the stock rom.

Im overclocking it to 1.4 Ghz 100% of the time using antutu cpu master.
I havnt experienced any significant battery droppage and it seems to help load some of my large games faster. overall I like having it OC'd.

What speed do you take it up to for gaming? Why do you use system tuner pro vs. easyoverclock?

I have run the games at 880mhz and they run pretty much the same, but when my pad is not connected to a power outlet I set it at 1.1ghz to run all the high end games (THD, etc.). If I have it connected I just max it at 1.5ghz
I don't use ezoverclock since it won't let me go lower than 1ghz and as far as I remember ezoverclock didn't have governors, STP lets me change governors (I'm always set at interactive).

Yes, you need root.

I only use OC for Testing, Benchmarks and 3D Games.
But must say when I run it on 1500Mhz and Performance for more than 45 Minutes the Pad gets really warm.

Im at 1.2ghz right now, might underclock some more.

I did some testing and the kernel does not overclock to 1.5ghz its a miss read on the chip. 1.2ghz and 1.5ghz score the same on quadrant and antutu benchmark do this urself and see.

I can confirm this, with the stock kernel even though I can set the CPU to 1.5 even when I set it to the "performance" setting (the CPU options one, not the Asus setting) I've never seen it go past 1.1 Ghz. I think if we want higher OC's we'll have to wait for custom kernel's. We'll probably lose the 3 performance modes that are built-in from ASUS but honestly, anyone who's rooting and OC'ing shouldn't be using options that basic anyways.

Yes but the options are just underclocking
Powersave- 1ghz
Balanced-1.1ghz
Performance-1.2ghz
The battery consumption difference between powersave and performance is minimal been testing this myself.. but to be honest after buildprop tweak an overclockis not needed everything runs at optimal performance. Only thing i see overclocking for right now is show off high numbers.

How are you checking? Are you using CPU Spy or a different app? I'll use whichever app you use and see if overclocking really works.

tf300 jellybean ota kills ezoverclock?

Just upgraded to jellybean on my tf300 but now when I try to install ezoverclock it freezes and reboots. Is there a workaround or an updated apk? I hope the dev is working on something, jellybean is nice and snappy and my i/o scores doubled but my games are slower and my antutu score droped over 2000 points! I cant believe one one has posted anything about this yet, how am I the first one?

Sorry I mean that there was no specific topic about ezoverclock not working anymore .They have mentioned it as a problem after the update but no one has really talked about it not working and fixing it. And I'm freaking out cause I pretty much live on this thing and use ezoverclock constantly,keeps my emulators and video converter running fast.

Is overclocking worth it?

Ok so I'm a bit new to the community in terms of tablet hardware and wanted to understand the concept of overclocking now from what I've heard the Asus tf300t has the capability to be increased to 1.5ghz it's stock is 1.3 I believe so my question is:
what are the basic benefits of overclocking.
How do you go about doing it? (app, or what not)
What damages can be done if done incorrectly. (boot loop or brick)

You'll need to flash another Kernal. There are various guides on this forum depending on what firmware you're on

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

Benefit is basically making your tablet faster and smother under heavy tasks such as gaming. Light tasks wont be affected much.
In order to over clock, you need custom kernel and a software that allows you to over clock or under clock. My favorite is set CPU which is paid ( there are tons of CPU app)
If you over clock too much, tablet will become very unstable and also CPU can overheat much easier which can lead to hardware failure. I recommend you to overclock up to 1.6 max if you ever gonna over clock.

I second this when playing games. I do also see a very slight difference in normal day to day use. Just dont overvolt, that i heard is bad for the chip and greatly shortens the length of the chip. Overclocking isnt as bad for it.

Ah ok so you do need a custom kernel/rom in order to gain access to overclocking. Well I've had problems before with flashing custom roms(soft bricked) and I'm kinda hesitant about it but I mean I've ran emulation on 1.3ghz and it runs smooth like for epsxe. I guess it's a matter of preference really?

I think that it is worth to unlock if you use a 1tb hard disk. It is more useful to overlock GPU as it will boost your perfomance in UI and games.

Overclock improved my tablet experience
When I was running cleanrom 3.4.1 and Unters TF300T 10.4.4.25 Kernel I had it O/C'ed to 1.6.
The ui and games like beach buggy blitz , dead trigger ran noticeably smoother .
Now I'm bac on stock android 4.2.1 from Asus website its nowhere near as smooth probably not even as smooth as stock 4.1.2 imo.

ya im on cm10.1 at the moment. over clocked to 1.6ghz currently. i find whether it was clean rom 3.4.4 or cm10.1 1.6ghz seems to be my tablets sweet spot. with my tablet and dock together on cm10.1 i have lasted like 4 days unplugged laying around with daily use for alittle bit. grand theft auto final fantasy dead trigger. all play so smooth.

Tergrak over clock let's you over clock any ROM, you don't need a custom ROM or kernel just root. Its on the play store.

+1 for overclocking. You can run the tablet at the lower speeds to save the battery when just messing around but you have the option to turn it up when needed. I overclock every device I own if possible. :good:

Hmmm sorry bout that. Your right it looks like its only for Samsung chip sets. I do apologize, I'll see if there is a similar app and I'll try tegrak on my nexus 7

3.4 Kernel?

Am I right in thinking the tf700 is not using the 3.4 android kernel? my xperia s has been updated to use this with the latest firmware, and for whatever reason (im no android dev!) it seems to apparently be the reason the phone has gone from pretty laggy to very snappy indeed. is there any reason Asus have not done this? is there a newer version incoming, or is this device just not a priority anymore? (which would be a shame as its not that old and works pretty damn well to me, but could always be better!)

Asus depends on NVidia, and it's unlikely that we'll see any newer kernel for our device than 3.1.

thanks. as i said, im no expert, but could this be done by devs without nvidia, or are they holding on to the nessessary code?
also, with the experimental 3.8 kernel sources available, and it supporting 'third party tegra drivers', will this benefit us, and could it be built independant of asus?

It should be possible to add support for the Transformers to newer kernel versions based on the published 3.1 source, but since there were major changes related to ARM device handling in recent kernels (device tree) it won't be easy.

would there be benefits, if some one were able to do it? as i said, the folk over on the xperia forums are very happy we have a 3.4 kernel, and claim all manner of improvements, which are noticable in the new build, are down to 3.4. thanks

Some things may get better, but don't expect miracles.

is anyone known to be working on this, or even 3.8? any enhancement would be great, however small XD

You could start researching yourself - are there any Tegra 3 Android devices with a newer kernel than 3.1?

I wish i had the time, maybe when my degree is over! i guess the HTC One Tegra version may use a newer kernel? Or maybe it will do when 4.3/5.0/whatever comes out, or the Google Experience versions may do when they ship i guess?
