Smart cover? Edit: TranSleeve? - Asus Transformer TF700

Has anyone purchased a smart cover for their Infinity? Like something comparable to an iPad smart cover? I'd prefer something like that over a keyboard dock or sleeve type protection. Curious what's out there. Looks like Asus made some for older models but they are reviewed unfavorably.

There is the official smart cover by Asus called TranSleeve.
But there is a report here somewhere it doesn't fit well and you have to tweak it a little too have it perfectly fit.

I don't think there is a smartcover for infinity, and i am afraid there never will be!
You see, smart cover means that when you "open" it, the screen turns on (iPad, Nexus7), becuase there is a magnet in the chasis of the pad that makes that possible. Haven't tried applying a magnet on infinity, but i don't think there is one...
So, sorry about that. transsleeve maybe looks like smart cover, but it is pretty stupid if you ask me

TranSleeve is what I'm looking for. Just light protection for the screen when I set it down and a stand when in use. Has anyone tried it with the TF700? The reviews are mixed from TF201 users, some love it some don't.
Also, anyone try waiving a magnet around this thing yet? If they eventually came out with one that could trigger the screen like an iPad that would be ideal.

I have the transleeve, and it's a perfect fit. I read somewhere that it made marks on the side of the tablet, but on mine there is small rubber patches on. So I guess they have fixed that problem.

where did you order it from? Are you still enjoying it? Does it have holes for all of the ports?
last question, how is it with and without the dock attached?

Yes please tell a bit about it, maybe take some photos.
I think about buying it but it is nowhere in store so I could look at it.
Thanks

I have TF201 TranSleeve on my TF700 and it fits perfectly. No need to do any tweaks.

TranSleeve is OK, but after little pressure applied it leaves traces on the screen (looks like rubber, although it's just synthetic).

I noticed that the iPad smartcover does that too. There are three horizontal lines on the screen.

So far my favourite cover / screen protection is the dock itself.

I'm thinking the same. But I'd like to get a cover for while at home. I'm going to get real sleeve to carry all of it when I leave the house so I can put it in my backpack without worrying about it getting messed up. I'd love a sleeve with 3DO in it but no one makes those.

I got the Transleeve Dual yesterday and to be honest I don't like it at all. It feels nice in the hand but that is just about the only compliment I can give it.
The case just ruins the elegance of the tablet which I find surprising since it is an Asus product.

I admit that I was a bit excited and should have at least posted in the accessories forum. However, I think that there's a great deal of interest in the Prime (of course), and I thought this cover was unique and innovate enough to point out. It demonstrates how much thought ASUS seems to be putting into the Prime, which is a real positive.
I have been playing with this same concept for the TF101. I would love to get my hands on one of these to see how they are attaching it to the base.
I really want a VERY light weight cover just to protect the glass and give it a stand for our TF101, this might get the ball rolling for us to get something like it.

Amazing idea! Ideal solution. Why the hell aren't they doing that? Hell just a spring loaded rod with 2 hooks.
G2x - 2.3.7 CM7
Transformer - 3.2 Revolver OC/UV
The latch should be very similar on the prime as it is on the TF101, except for the depth of the distance from latch to screen.
Would be nice to modify to fit ours, or better yet, make one specifically for it.

I hope it doesn't have magnets. It's a pointless gimmick that only Apple would come up with. To save yourself a couple of seconds fitting a tab or two or pressing a power button, you now have a case that can accidentally wipe your credit card or damage an old-school CRT TV / monitor if you hold it too close. Niiice.

Well, with this kind of cover, I'm not sure how it would function without a magnet. There's nothing to secure it to...
The magnet would have to be decently strong too, to wipe off your credit card magnetic stripe (or you put there for a long time or something).

The less of them, the better. I'd prefer a physical switch in the TF dock, too.
There are a hell of a lot more than one in the iPad 2 and Smart Cover, though. The iFixit teardown shows ten magnets in the iPad 2 body (four small ones in one side of the rear panel, four small and two large ones in the left side), and no less than 21 in the "Smart" Cover (two big, 18 small, and one tiny).
That's 31 magnets in an iPad 2 with cover, of which there are four large magnets, 26 small ones, and one tiny one.

Maybe... on one hand, its only slightly thicker, not enough to make a case not fit. On the other, the buttons and ports were all moved around, so that may mess with how things are aligned.

Thanks for that link! They have 25% off for a couple of days. Got myself a stylus and a car charger.
I would like something similar to the Official Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 case... been using that for a year on my tab and its brilliant.
I'm probably going to be picking mine up at a retail store, so I'm hoping to find a nice slip case that will fit the tablet and dock.
I just got my TF700T and love it so far, but I'm worried about scratching it, so I was wondering if there was something like the CaseMate "Barely There" case for this Tablet?
Also the smart cover things that at Asus' own webshop, have anyone tried them? Are they worth buying?

I'm using the TranSleeve designed for the Prime (TF201), it fits well and is actually pretty cool. You have a few "standing" options (movies / typing) etc.
There is TranSleeve Dual coming, which is supposed to cover the Infinity with or without the dock, but it's hard to tell when it's going to be available in Europe.

I got the TranSleeve Dual while I thought I was getting the regular TranSleeve. The Dual one is pretty much useless without a dock.
Sure, you can prop the thing up similar to the regular sleeve, but it feels bulky, and since the tablet is only held in place in the sleeve by silicone stripes (or whatever they are) at the sides, it tends to just slide out of the sleeve. The actual propping up also feels bulky since it's supposed to fit the dock as well and wrap around both when you close them together. Suffice to say, I'm returning it since it's useless to me without the dock.

Rubber covers on bottom of tablet?

I received my 700 with the 2 rubber keyboard covers missing from the bottom. It may be trivial but, my concern is that dust my find its way under the screen. Has anyone else received their tablet this way? One other question, I have several areas along the bottom of the screen that have notable screen bleed during boot up. Do others have any screen bleeding?

My TF700 came with two rubber covers to close off the attachment holes the dock pins go into, I believe that is what you are referring to, right, OP? Shame you're probably not based in the Netherlands, as I do not need them and would gladly give them away.
I've heard that Asus discontinued their use after a lot of prime owners tried to dock their tablets without taking the rubber feet out.

You could always get the transleeve as it plugs up the ports nicely. the only other option I can think of is to put tape over them or find piece of silicone that might fit in the holes.
Also DarsVaeda mine came with a plastic thingy to fits into the charging port. No silicone nubs in the holes for the keyboard though.
Okay I guess I'll have to wait and see but there is hope

My tf700 also came without covers, but that's been discussed here before and I didn't expect them. However I do have a bit of backlight bleed at the bottom of the screen, but it doesn't bother me as it's only noticeable when you are on a black screen, or at bootup.

You know I wonder why asus did not put a spring loaded mechanism in the docking holes. You know kinda like the thing in a PeZ dispenser, when you put the tablet on the dock it would push them in the tablet and when you undock it the covers spring back in place.

By the way, does anyone else find the USB port "cover" on the dock almost impossible to remove??? I eventually just left it out as it makes the USB port *very* frustrating to use!

I don't plan on using a case when I dock it anyway, so that should be fine. I think it's beneficial for people who don't plan on using a dock, so the case they chose can be a more permanent solution.

Well that was fast! Just got mine in. Of course, as luck would have it, I left my Infinity at home today and can't try it out yet. It seems like a nice case though. There's a magnetic clasp and the hand strap is there. My only concern is whether it will be too top heavy when used as a stand. By itself, it just falls over, but I'm hoping the weight of the tablet will fix that.

It is for the TF201 but fits the TF700 fine (most of the cases you see advertised for the TF700 are the same as the TF201). The TF700 is just a tad taller so clasp is just a bit tight but other than that it's a perfect fit, none of the ports are covered and the camera is exposed.

this looks like a good hold me over case until a gumdrop or griffin case gets developed.
My only problem with the case, after a few weeks of use, and is that the securing flap is a bit loose so the pad slides down a bit. I anyone else notice it? I plan on buying some low profile velcro to fix it.

I started having the same problem after about the same time. Today i went and bought some " stick-on hook & loop fastener" for $1.30~ at Wal-Mart. It works perfectly and has renewed this case. I actually really like it now as it makes the case really snug and feel secure.
TIP:
1) press the two strips together ( so they are even), then cut it to about 3 to 4 inches ( eyeball the length)
2) remove the adhesive film from one side only and stick pieces on the leather part first, make sure your tablet is seated firmly in the case (press the strips on until the fill secure). then push the flap with strips in until is snug. after that hold in place while you remove the second adhesive fillm, and close it.
3) let it sit closed a few minutes and you're done.

Here are some pics of my case after the transformation. i really think companies that make this style of case should start using hook & loop fastener strips like this from the start. it's cheap and shouldn't add much at all to the cost of the product.

Definitely don't have this case in mind for drop protection...but for looks and design it's fine.

Asus transleeve works on infinity

I just received a transleeve cover (the origami one) for the tf201 and it works on my tf700 with no issues.
Fyi, in case that's the kind of cover you'd like for your tablet. I also have a keyboard dock, so I think I'm set on covers

What about buttons layout?
It's only a cover. So it doesn't cover any buttons. Have the same one myself, and it fits perfectly.

Not sure if it's the same case as with Prime but there were a lot of complains that this transleeve causes scratches.
Im curious how well the cover fits. I also have one from my prime and although it appears to fit initially, it doesn't actually lock in and it falls of rather easily. When I look at it from the bottom, I can see the hooks on the cover don't fully catch in the dock slots. Also, the usb cable connector opening isn't centered as it should be in the covers cut out. It's as if the dock connector slots are slightly deeper than they were with the primes. I am curious if this is just my device or in general.

i didn't notice any problems, fits just fine, and it securely attaches to the pad.

I ordered mine from best buy recently, and I wanted to get this cover, I wonder if it would be worth getting a screen protector as well to help protect against scratches? I just hate screen protectors...never had a good one on any phone.

I had the same problem. Sleeve worked great on my Prime. When the camera module failed and the Prime was replace with the Infinity, I found the cover would not latch securely. Almost dropped the tablet the first time.
Tried several times to attach, but it just slips out of the connector slots

The slots on the TF700 have been redesigned. I'm not sure what the correct term for the bit of the slot that the latching mechanism clicks into, but I'll call it a shelf. On the TF201, the 'shelf' was part of the case, which meant that when attaching it to the dock, or in this case, the cover, the action of attaching would caus abrasion of the outward facing part of the 'shelf'. On the TF700, the 'shelf' is recessed, and made from what seems to be steel, so, although it will also get abraded, the marks will be fewer and less visible.
The recessing of the shelf means that the the 'neck' of the latches being pushed in needs to be slightly longer so that it latches in behind the shelf properly. In the case of the cover, it is not. This could be rectified by grinding off a portion of the latching, to extend the neck a little. A mm or so should be enough. I plan on doing this when I get some time.
I hope this explains it, despite my lack of knowledge of the correct terms for all the bits involved.

UPDATE:
The posts on the transleeve are millimeters from allowing proper attachment. On hinge of the transleeve are some rubbger spacers to hold the hinge away from the tablet. I removed those spacers and that provided just enough additional space for the hinge to latch into place. Hope that helps.
Please post a picture of your mods to help everyone understand what you've done...
There were already other threads on this, so no news here. I've been using it for two months now, but sporadically, it's ok, but I don't love it, the dock or neoprene sleeve is a better cover. Plus it leaves "stains".

?? I have 3 transleeves and all 3 of them fit the TF700 perfectly, no modding required. Sounds like you got unlucky.
My prime's origami case also doesn't fit well on my infinity. I mean it fits, but it is in no way secure. It doesn't latch at all and falls off with the slightest tug. Isn't there an official origami case for the infinity?

yesterday it broke, the spring clip on one of the attachment points broke and now the cover wont latch to the tablet. -- i know a few others reported this failure scenario .
piece of crap -- only lasted a few weeks.

how many time did you use it ? i want to buy one, but.....i think it bad quality
I've had mine on my Prime and now Infinity for 6 months and not a mark on it.
Like I said before it's the best case for viewing the pad on my lap. Nothing else has come close.
I've been looking all over for a black origami smart cover and cant find one anywhere
