Bootloader PG58IMG.ZIP not recognized - HTC Sensation

hello,
i s-offed and rooted my htc sensation. i also managed to install 4ext recovery. right now i am on 1.17. now i want to flash some custom rom.
but when i try to install one the PG58IMG.ZIP from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21989063&postcount=1
none of the zips will work. the bootloader doesnt seem to recognize the file at all. its in root on the sd-card and i got supercid. so it should work. all i get is:

Assuming you have adb/fastboot setup
copy the PG58IMG.zip to the adb/fastboot folder of your pc
then connect the phone from bootloader/fastboot to pc (phone reads fastboot usb after this)
then open command window from the adb/fastboot folder
(if windows .. hold shift + right click -> open command window here)
then these commands one by one
fastboot erase cache (if failed ignore it)
fastboot oem rebootRUU (black screen with silver HTC)
fastboot flash zip PG58IMG.zip (flashing the zip)
fastboot reboot-bootloader
that would do

hi again,
it worked. thx a lot. saved my weekend.
best regards

Messing around for weeks already :S
Hey, I am a new member and I have been messing around and looking around for a couple of weeks already with the same problem. I found this post because it is pretty much the same problem that I am experiencing.
So I tried to follow all the instructions here, but nothing. My phone is in a bootloop, I can get into the bootscreen, but even if I select recovery, it gets into a bootloop again, just the HTC whitescreen and then restarts again.
Before I flashed Revolution HD on the phone and it worked really good for a couple of days, then I chose the camera and it froze. I restarted the phone and then it started, the bootloop and at some point it started working again, but just for a day and it froze again and after that I went to the bootloader and this showed up...

I had 4ext recovery and I tried to install it again, but nothing. I also tried to flash CWM recovery on it, but still the same. I tried to flash everything, but still nothing. I have tried pretty much everything I have found and starting to feel pretty much desperate about the matter. I also attached an image about my bootscreen and I hope that at least somebody could help me.
Thank you for bearing through the long text...

Okay, I followed the post, but when I update the firmware, everything is OK except for [8] RADIO_V2 - Fail-UZ
I know that I should look around for a fix on this one as well, but always when I start looking around I get to new threads and finish nowhere sadly, so if anybody knew a fix for that, then I'd appreciate it

You need to re-flash the ICS firmware from here --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412618
If it's an ICS ROM, flash the second one. If it's a Gingerbread ROM, flash the first one. Put the PG58IMG.zip on your SD card along with your ROM. Hold VOL-DOWN while you boot, and I think it asks you if you'd like to update (you do). You then need to remove the PG58IMG.zip from your SD card.
Boot into recovery after that and flash your ROM. If it still boot loops, that means you didn't flash the PG58IMG file correctly.
it says
cid incorrect update failed

Hi,
You need to go HERE
Read the thread carefully, and it will guide you to which PG58IMG.zip you need for your phone.
Once you have flashed the appropriate firmware (PG58IMG.zip) it is important to delete the PG58IMG.zip from your sd card.
Then ,you can super wipe and flash your ROM.
right ill try this
but at the moment
when i get into recovery it loads the some file and it says wrong cid and it asks to reboot but it didnt
i dont have a card reader so im going to to a cafe of something
cheers for this
1. fastboot load into the bootloader and do:
fastboot getvar cid
fastboot getvar mid
If you don't have fastboot I have provided a download of it at the bottom of this post. Read the Read-Me file inside of it.
2. For those without fastboot you can use an app called CID Getter. CID is displayed at the top. MID is at the line ro.mid
This will not tell if you are SuperCID or not it just tells your original CID.
3. If you want to do it by terminal, open a terminal on the phone and do:
su
getprop ro.cid
getprop ro.mid

yup checked it before, i put the zip normally to "sdcard/"
maybe the wrong firmware?
It's Sensation XE without branding(Eng/Ger), it was a test-device/example directly from HTC
Please check SuperCID worked. Reboot into bootloader and run fastboot getvar cid from your PC. The result should be 11111111.

You must have an working adb and fastboot setup.
If you do not know about adb and fastboot read them.
Go through the following thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1480061
Alternatively you can check your CID on the phone itself. But you must have an terminal app.
Open terminal app. and type the following command without the quote.
" getprop ro.cid "
same problem
same problem
please help
For ARHD 6.2.1 you need 3.24/3.25 firmware. Download from fw thread, check md5 and flash in bootloader, assuming your CID is supported or you have superCID as above.
For newer rom versions you would then need newer firmware.

My sensation is also S-ON. I think ultimate solution is to flash boot.img of the rom you are installing using fastboot but you should flash 4EXT recovery. and select ENABLE SMART-FLASH before you start installing any rom. This will automatically write boot.img file from ROM and you need not flash boot.img file while installing rom.
Thanks all...I´ve trying with all your solutions and nothing happens..I´ll write you again to explain (maybe with screen captures) what´s going on...

Your problem is clearly visible and the solution is pretty straight forward too
(which I've linked before)
Now I'll briefly explain the steps..
First flash the rom you want from Recovery (also keep a copy of rom zip file in pc)
Then go to bootloader and connect your device to pc
Open the rom zip file from pc.. Extract and Copy the boot.img (generally in kernel folder of the zip) to your adb/fastboot folder
Then open command prompt from the adb/fastboot folder ( if windows hold shift + right click - open command window here)
Then type this
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Then reboot using
fastboot reboot
If it still not resolved let me know

Copy the rom zip file to your sdcard (do it via card reader) then insert sdcard card and boot to recovery.. There
Select install from sdcard.. And select the rom zip file.. That will install the rom
Edit: or follow the guide I've linked in my first post of this thread completely to the letter..
Then do the rest as explained earlier

Hello there,
I've had the same problem with my Sensation after Flashing the Elegancia ICS Sense4 ROM.
How i fixed it:
Go to Bootloader -->Recovery (I use ""recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.0.9-pyramid.img""
Then Wipe cache and system.
Flash your ROM, but dont change any settings there (if there is a option to wipe data, press "NO")
Thats how it worked with my device.
Otherwise install the firmware you need for your ROM.
Sry for my bad english, im from Germany !
Greetings
Flash your ROM, but dont change any settings there (if there is a option to wipe data, press "NO")

As you tell me to flash a new rom I´ve choose 4B. Flashing A Custom Rom
Untill here everything is fine. I already have 4EXT Recovery!
I check as the guide says the firmware in CMD and is: (bootloader) version-main: 3.32.162.11
But when arrive to this step and try to install SUPERWIPE then 4EXT says:
Installing: /sdcard/Android_Revolution_HD_Super_Wipe_sensation.zip
Finding update package…
Opening update package…
E:Can´t open /sdcard/Android_Revolution_HD_Super_Wipe_sensation.zip

Installation aborted.
I download this from: http://goo.gl/jmi4r as the guide says.
To let you know right now I´ve in my SDCARD this:

The both ZIPS that the guide says to dowload: the SUPERWIPE and the Android_Revolution_HD_Super_Wipe_sensation.zip
a file called recovery.img

Help with HTC Desire S (bricked)

OK, need a bit of help with a Desire S that can only get to HBOOT screen (vol down + power) otherwise it's just a white HTC screen.
Phone is S-ON. HBOOT 0.98.002.
I've tried Revolutionary.io's guide to convert to S-OFF but I just get 'Waiting for Device'. Tried uninstalling HTC drivers then installing again without luck, disabling firewall and AV, still no luck. Kinda given up on that front.
Trying 'fastboot devices', device is recognised, but if I try to flash a recovery ROM from fastboot I get an 'out of memory' error.
I don't know if USB debugging is enabled or not (how can I tell & enable from HBOOT if not)?
I thought about going via HTCDEV and their method, but my HBOOT is at the wrong version (can I upgrade it to V 2.000.2?)
I'm really running out of options now....anything else I can try??? HELPPPP!
Run htc ruu exe file and don't close the windows, find rom.zip in windows temp folder, rename it to PG88IMG.zip ale copy to sdcard. Turn on your phone in hboot mode, rom will be flashed automaticaly.
Or just go to fastboot mode in hboot and then run RUU, should work if you have bootloader locker (relocked).

sorry, but I'm really not getting this. I'm looking for a RUU to flash a recovery ROM. When I went to HTC dev, there were all the ROMs for all the different carriers. I don't know what mine is. I tried downloading one for Vodafone, unzipped and searched for RUU.exe but there isn't one.
I need to get to this RUU.exe but dont know how.:crying:
what is a recovery ROM? anyway, people over here at the DS forum has already extracted the radio, Hboot and ROM of official ICS. search around...

I had a bit of progress. I downloaded the latest 4.0 RUU util from HTC Dev, ran it, extracted the ROM.zip and renamed it to PG88IMG.zip, copied it up to the SD card, rebooted the phone into FASTBOOT and the phone recognised it and started installing.
Wahey, I thought, that's it I've cracked it, but then it gets stuck on Updating the bootloader. Stuck for nearly an hour. Tried twice and different SD cards...same thing.
Is this because I'm still S-ON and bootloader is locked, or do you think my internal memory is fried?

Absolutely irrelevant. He's not flashing anything himself, he's executing RUU which can flash everything.
OK, so how do I enable USB debugging if I can only get into HBOOT? Is there a FASTboot or ADB command that can do it? I think that's what's stopping Revolutionary.

[Q] Trying to upgrade HTC Desire S to HTC Android 4.0 (without Windows)

Thought I would try to upgrade Android from 2.3.5 to 4.0. HTC said it would work...
I've now got it stuck, though and can't move on. I do not own a Windows computer (I'm on Ubuntu).
What I did
I unlocked the phone using HTC's website tools. It uses adb, and you have to send some key to them and they generate an unlock code for you which you then do: fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
I downloaded the RUU (RUU_SAGA_ICS_35_S_HTC_EU_14.01.401.2_20.76.30.0835_3831.19.00.110_275068) from HTC.
Try 1: OpenRUU
I extracted the rom.zip file by using Wine, then searching on rom.zip. I moved it to ~/rom.zip
I then tried running the OpenRUU scripts which failed on attempting to flash (and failed on the automatic reflash attemtp, too):
sending 'zip' (410735 KB)... OKAY
writing 'zip'... INFOadopting the signature contained in this image...
INFOzip header checking...
INFOzip info parsing...
FAILED (remote: 99 unknown fail)
Try2: using hboot
I then tried with the hboot script. This is not for the "desire S" and has the wrong code in for the renamed rom.zip file. I then tried manually putting rom.zip, renamed as PG88IMG.zip into the root of the SD card as clearly summarised at (1)
I booted up into fastboot and the phone opened the zip file but then said "Wrong zipped image!".
Try3: using WinXP in VirtualBox
I then tried to run the RUU exe file in an XP VirtualBox VM. To do this I enabled USB devices for the phone (i.e. added filters for it both in fastboot and android modes), installed the stuff (HTC Sync) and tried running the RUU file.
It keeps saying "error 170 usb connection error". I've tried with the phone turned on (normally) and plugged in via USB, in charge only, Disk Drive and in USB debugging modes. I've also tried with the phone in fastboot mode. I always get this error.
...disable VirtualBox's USB2.0 support
Then it's able to connect to the phone. It ran all the way through the update process except that (a) there was never a progress indicator on the phone itself, (b) at the end it gave an 155 "image error". The recovery process then didn't really relate to anything I could see on the phone. The phone is again back in a2.3.5, so at least not bricked.
Trying to re-lock bootloader...
Then I thought that maybe the bootloader should be locked again (step 11 at (2)) - I had skipped this step before because I thought "I've just UNlocked it, why would I now want to RElock it?". But this won't work either! In fastboot mode, from a terminal, I type
Code:
$ fastboot oem lock
... INFOLock successfully...
FAILED (status read failed (Protocol error))
then the phone reboots itself, and it still shows unlocked. My fastboot screen (in case it's useful) says:
Code:
*** UNLOCKED ***

Doh! my bad - I had of course named it .zip not .jpg. (I have edited the post since). It WAS found by the phone, but error-ed after opening it, as described.
I flashed my RUU on Linux simply by doing:
Code:
fastboot oem lock
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash zip YOURRUUZIP.zip
fastboot flash zip YOURRUUZIP.zip
fastboot reboot
(yes, you flash it twice - it asks you 'please flush[sic] image again immediately' because it's upgrading your hboot)
obviously, replace YOURRUUZIP.zip with the zip file you extracted (e.g. PG88IMG.zip)
From the looks of your errors, though, it looks like your zip is simply corrupt...?

Could be but I don't think so. I've extracted it twice, once under Windows and once under Wine and the md5s are the same. I have no way of testing the integrity of the file I downloaded since htc don't apparently provide any hashes, but I would think that the .exe file probably checks its own integrity before running.
Thanks anyway! it looks like I need to re-lock it as a first step, maybe.

Yep. And the phone reads it all (takes it about 3 minutes to open, with the little vertical progress bar), then gives that error. The error goes away fast, so I had to make a video and freeze frame to get that picture.

Oh rite. Must be corrupt download id say, coz it should work. When u downloaded the ruu, was there a md5 next to the download? If so, check it, make sure it matched, if not then try re download the ruu and try again.
Good suggestion. Just done that and the md5s are the same. It's

That's probably because you're trying to run this through VirtualBox - does this also happen if you use adb from within Ubuntu rather than putting VirtualBox between your OS and your phone for no reason?

Maybe, but I think VirtualBox was working fine (e.g. HTC Sync worked).
As for "for no reason", I have read that the executable does quite a bit of stuff in terms of resetting various low level bits, and of course, being an HTC, there are hundreds of flash options, not just the usual handful.
I have been in touch with HTC directly (they told me initially the 4.0 upgrade was available), but they now say that this won't work with my phone.
I believe that the update is not accepted during the normal means because it is the WWE not the UK edition, and therefore the CID/MID do not match and are getting rejected because of S-ON.
Thing is, I don't want to risk bricking the phone by trying to get S-OFF and forcing the update because handsets are expensive! I've given up on this project for now...
Thanks to all for the help and advice.

Nope, all it does is this:
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash zip YOURRUUZIP.zip
fastboot flash zip YOURRUUZIP.zip
fastboot reboot
This is what I did with my phone (I never ran the RUU) and it updated to ICS just fine.
I believe that the update is not accepted during the normal means because it is the WWE not the UK edition, and therefore the CID/MID do not match and are getting rejected because of S-ON.

My phone wasn't WWE either and that was no problem for me.

Yeah it was a DS. The article you link to even mentions that flashing a WWE RUU should always be possible: 'Everyone can de-brand his device easily by flashing a stock system image' (although, that sentence continues, that will make you unable to receive carrier OTAs, but that doesn't matter for our device)
Can I confirm that

means the whole RUU.zip as downloaded from HTC, or the rom.zip as extracted from running the .exe file within the downloaded RUU?
And also, http://www.htc1guru.com/2013/09/new-ruu-zips-posted/ says "You still need to have the proper CID for the RUU. You can run the RUU.zip with super CID, but you will have to lock your bootloader first."
AFAICS the RUU I have downloaded has a different CID so won't work. Also my bootloader is unlocked (and the oem lock command fails, as mentioned above). (And I'm S-ON.)
