Story: I got a new sim card a good while back and it made me have a voicemail icon in the notification area. I use GV so no need for carrier VM. I called and left myself a VM, checked it and it was gone. \O/
My sim card went caput and had to get a new one. Now I don't have carrier VM so there is no way to call... There is an app called Phone 4.1.1 that if I force stop it the icon disappears. \O/ The thing is that if my phone is rebooted or I turn airplane mode on and off, which I do a lot, it comes back. I toggle airplane mode because my carrier will drop data and this picks it back up and also if I'm roaming and then go back into a carrier zone and do wifi tethering the Internets thinks I'm still roaming and toggling fixes that.
Question: Will freezing this app be bad? In TB it's called [VOICEMAIL] Phone 4.1.1 so I think it's safe but I'm not totally sure.
Anyone?
Maybe nobody has experience with this? Why not freeze it and find out for yourself? It's only frozen, so at least if something goes wrong, you can defrost it.
i donĀ“t think it woud be dangerous to your phone
S.R.
It didn't work. I froze the app but it just made it to where you couldn't force stop it whenever the voicemail icon appeared after you switch back and forth in airplane mode.
I wonder if aLogcat would show what's going on?

I've had some issues with the CM7 Toggles that came with NSCollab.
Last night, I tried switching from 2G to 3G. That worked, partly. I couldn't switch back to 3G after that, and I couldn't get any data to send. I tried switching it back on and off from the Toggles, but nothing. After rebooting, not only did 3G not come back on, but I kept getting an Error Message every 2 seconds having something to do with the android.phone not working. So then, I had to flash a backup and got the 3G working again.
Then, earlier today, I tried switching the Mobile Data and Data Sync off, but they also wouldn't come back on, even after rebooting, so I once again had to restore to a backup. I'm pretty new at this, so it could just be me being flat out stupid.
Are the toggles supposed to be this faulty, or is there a different way to turn them back on?
What exactly are Mobile Data and Data Sync?
Is it better to just leave 'em be, and turn just put it in Airplane Mode if needed?
That is a known issue with CM7, my advice would be to wipe data, reflash, then avoid the 2G/3G toggle. That's the only one with that issue so feel free to use the others.

First let me say I love my G2x overall and I have no desire to return it or even leave TMobile. But.........
Let me start this by stating that I have Verizon fiOS at home and a Netgear Wireless AP. My phone and various other equipment connect to the Netgear for internet access. I've noticed on my phone that at random times I have a full wireless signal and 4G (2G or G, depending on the time of day I suppose) on my notification bar. I originally didn't think much about it thinking my wireless would override the 4G.
Well I decided to root my phone and use BloatFreezer to freeze some apps (MyAccount, Qik, TeleNav, etc), plus I believe many feel that MyAcount is the cause of this, but with all 3 instances of it frozen is it still the reason behind this?
Last night I had it happen yet again and I ran speedtest just to see which of the 2 was the main one. Well not to my surprise the cell data was overriding my wireless.
I'm (hopefully) attaching the 2 pictures I took. One with the celldata active and showing what SpeedTest reported and a 2nd with cell data off and the new speedtest report.
My basic question here is what service/app/etc am I needing to freeze to avoid this again, it's extremely annoying when I'm trying to watch youtube only to have my phone in the middle attempt to use cell data and it can't due to reception and boot me from the video, or when I'm downloading from the market.
I noticed this also. Usually when opening up Market or My Account. I know for fact that My Account only works over cell tower so it will automatically disable wifi and bring back 3g. Dunno about Market but I suspect the same.
just get an app with a widget to turn off data when you are using wifi???? I dont have this issue at all so I can't really help much, but its an alternative, for now.
Doesnt wifi calling turn data off completely when connected? Could try that.

Correct. This would work.
Believe its the tmo my account app, freeze it and see if it helps.
G2X
I have myaccount frozen already. My wifi calling turns on whenever it feels like it, it sometimes turns on right away other times it takes an hour or so to finally connect. Ill keep an eye on this when wifi calling is on to see if my issue is still there.

It might be the Market app. I get perfect Wifi unless I open up market app or any app that access the market.
I just turn wifi off and on again. Fixes it. Not that we should have to.

For the life of me, I can't get MyAccount.apk to stop running. Its frozen with TB, and I moved it out of /system/app folder.
Its always in the foreground in SystemPanel...

just delete the apk all together and reboot...
bloat freezer app's default will freeze an app more completely than titanium backup will. it also has the partial freeze option like titanium does as well. after freezing with bloat freezer it disappeared from even titanium backup seeing it.

Ok I've had wifi calling enabled all day and sure enough 2G came up and took over data service for no apparent reason, I wasn't in the market app or myaccount. I was simply texting when I noticed it, I ran speedtest again and verified 2G was the active service even though I had wifi on
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I also might add that I have SwitchPro on and when I have wifi enabled the data connection is shown to be disabled (tells me it gets disabled when wifi is active) but I still had the cell data icon on and overridding my wifi. So obviously disabling my data through a widget doesn't solve my issue.
I have a droid that I am about to put in a drawer. Its fully functional. Is it possible to modify this droid so that it only uses wifi? I'd like it modified so that my young son cannot make phone calls using minutes and verizon can't track, but he can still get to the market using my wifi at to play games. Is something like this possible? A possible Droid version of Ipod touch??

If the phone isn't active on any line, then yes. If he tries to dial out he'll just get an error message.
You can put it in airplane mode as well.

WIFI works in Airplans on "some" phones, worked on my MT4G, MT3GS, and on newer phones. I'm not sure if that's a function of the OS version, or the phone type. It may be a feature implemented later on.
I tried to access my wifi from this OG droid in airplane mode and it doesn't work. Perhaps there are developers here who could think of a way to do this?
Try this.
As far as I know, you can enable wifi while on Airplane Mode, no matter the device you hold.
I am aware that when you turn on airplane mode with WiFi on, it turns it off.
But you should be able to turn it on after engaging airplane mode.
Also mentioned before, as long as the phone is deactivated
The only phone calls that could be successful are 911 and customer care;
Used to talk to a rep. in order to re-activate your device.
I use two devices (Samsung Vibrant, Moto Droid X) that are not in service with airplane mode on;
It will save battery by turning off the CDMA Radio completely, otherwise the radios will constantly be communicating with the tower.
Keep in mind, this does not matter if the phone is in service or not, If its ON,
its trading packets with the tower.
Thanks!

You could also delete Phone.apk lmao. I can't believe I didn't think of that.
I would also say to just have the phone deactivated.
Just make sure he doesn't dial 911

How do I disable the cmda radio?
Just delete/freeze the phone and messaging apps with Titanium Backup! Or uninstall them.
To confirm what everyone has posted...
1) Deactivate phone with Verizon.
2) In Titanium Backup, Freeze the messaging and phone app.
3) Turn phone into Airplane Mode.
4) Turn on Wifi.
Did I get it all? Thanks everyone for the help.
My Verizon Galaxy S3 has been dropping its data connection since the update a few days ago. Sometimes it's been an hour or more before it's restored, other times it drops to 3G briefly before returning to 4G. I'm also noticing reduced battery life, which is almost certainly caused by the data problem.
The internet is abuzz with others reporting the same problems and tech support tells me that they're aware of the issue and are waiting for Samsung to put out a fix.
I seemed to have the same problems as you described and doing a sim card pull then battery pull and put back in and the phone will reboot. Then wait 5-10 min and put back in the sim card and then reset phone. When phone reboots change to cdma/lte in the network settings and reboot again.
Data seems to work about as good as previous update. And best part is you don't have to factory reset. I am going to take a wild guess that the lte authentication is having problems with the update and resetting the sim card on the network clears things up. Try this and report back if it works or not.
Almost forgot the new caller id app may have something to do with these data freezes as well. What you do is go into settings, application manager, scroll over to all category and head down to caller name id and click on it. Then clear data, disable and finally hit force stop. You might want to reboot after this but it should stop it from running. It's a pos rip off and you can get a free app that does the same.
**After a couple days testing it appears that this caller id app is the main source of problems. I have ran global and cdma/lte settings and data gets locked up constantly when this app is left to run. If you can't get on 4g at all since update you need to do the following first and foremost. Settings, more settings, mobile networks, access point names and make sure lte-verizon internet is check. I have seen this setting uncheck itself so double check it please.**
Tried and it did nothing for me. 5 minutes after following your directions, my phone dropped data again.
Thanks though.
I'm in the middle of a chat with a Samsung rep and they're system doesn't even show this update being released....lol.
Do settings, about phone, status under signal strength what does that read?
-106 dBm 32 asu
I do have a 4G connection right now.
That is a pretty low signal for 4g lte. I am gonna assume that you had drops prior to this software update but they where a lot more rare?
No, never.

Well there really is only one other thing to do an it's a factory reset. Odds are it won't help since others have tried it and it did nothing for them. Otherwise we get the fun process of waiting multiple months for a fix.
Just wanted to give a heads up. I originally thought you could uninstall the new caller id bloatware but it appears it only uninstalls the icon from the drawer so you still have to go into application manager and disable it because it turns itself back on after uninstalling.

Still on the older version. The LTE signal is marginal where I am. I routinely get between -106 and -112 with 2 bars, and I never lose my 4G signal and the download almost always tests at 8Mbps or greater. At work, I have all but one bar, and my signal is 88.
A signal of -106 does not mean that the phone will lose the 4G signal. I rarely drop until I get to around -118. Though I'm sure that these phones could have a stronger signal than they do, they seem to hold on to a signal pretty well.
I haven't lost my data since disabling the caller ID app.

Yeah it's the same for me. When I realized that turning on wifi that 4g lte would stay on I knew this app was tied into the radio. And being made by verizon I had a funny feeling this would be of the lowest quality.
I got the Sept Software update which installed baseband version G955USQS5CRI4, and now the 4G/LTE icon just shows the no signal icon. Calls work so it is apparently just an icon issue, but is anyone else having this issue?
Apparently it killed the data connection as well now, calls do not work with WiFi and WiFi calling off. This is bad.
Just checked my phone and all is good.
Yeah, not sure what happened but I had to reset all network connections and reboot 3 times for it to work again.
I've tried doing a factory reset about 10 times as well as network specific resets, and I have not had any luck resolving. They also replaced my SIM car4d with no luck. Any one else having this issue had luck resolving in another way?
I responded to another thread about this... having same issue. Here was my reply:
I am having the EXACT same issue. I don't remember when the last update came through, but it was Feb 16th when this started happening to me. I was moving to a new apartment, phone battery down to like 10%, so I turned the phone off and put it away. A few hours later I turned it back on and no cell connection. No bars, just a circle with line through it. Settings > About Phone > Status > SIM card status = shows Network "unknown", Mobile network type "unknown", Service state " Radio off", Mobile network state "Disconnected".
My SIM works in a Nexus 6 and Galaxy Note 4, so I know it isn't the SIM card. I've tried everything I can think of to turn the radio back on, replaced the SIM tray (original is cracked), even got a Freedompop SIM just to test, and yeah, it won't work. The cellular radio isn't turning on for some reason.
I will say, a couple days after it happen, I turned the phone on without SIM tray, and I could see empty bars, like it was trying to work. I turned it off, put my SIM in, and it worked... until my replacement SIM tray came in. Turned it off, replaced SIM tray, and it is off again.. for last 2 days. I just happened to turn it on that day and it was working, turned it off some days later and it stopped again. I don't know why.. no apparent reason. So, last couple days I have been turning it on and off, on and off, hoping it comes back on.
If ANYONE comes up with ANY ideas, please let us know!!!
Yea if anyone comes up with a fix for this that would be great, since that update my phone aswell has trouble deciding allow calls to ring or go straight to voicemail. Also noticed a delay in receiving text messages, unsure. I really dont want to have to replace my phone because of a broken update. :/
