Skyrocket Japanese support? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Hi i have the skyrockete from att and was wondering if there was an app i could download from Google play to have Japanese on my phone as there is no option in the languages settings from the factory.
Anyway to do this without rooting?
Thanks

Bump..
Also, I know there is an App called MoreLocal2 from google play (used on my HTC Inspire 4g, and works better compared to the skyrocket), and it works fine, however, it just doesnt support enough Japanese for my liking, as It only covers simple things, such as the Date, time, and lock screen, but thats about it. No support for the Settings or apps.
Would my phone need to be Rooted to have everything in Japanese? Or is there a 3rd party app?
Thanks.

The basic phone wont have japanese, only keyboard. Maybe a custom rom can support japanese and for that you need more than just rooting.
I'm pretty sure cyanogenmod can fully support japanese.

Thanks
Kind of a dumb question but could I or is it even possible to load the NTT Docomo gs2 software? Seems like a long shot to ask but I want to try and avoid rooting.

Would it be possible to remove the US GS2 AT&T software, and load the Japanese GS2 NTT Docomo(carrier like AT&T) Software?
Just wondering, as im trying to avoid rooting for now.
Sorry for the confusion

I still have no clue but you also have to make sure the models are alike hardware wise or you'll get yourself a hardbrick.

Probably not going to happen unless you can get someone to port it for you, keeping the language in Japanese. Even then it still won't be OG DoCoMo, it will be DoCoMo/AT&T Skyrocket. It can be done, it was done with the Chinese version of MIUI to the HTC Sensation but it took A LONG TIME before it was good enough to use. Like I said, probably not going to happen since you are the only one with a vested interest.

Darn, alright thanks to the both of you. Guess I'll just use English till I run into a possible language support

As I said if you really want jap you could root and flash cyanogenmod but before you do this read this whole forum at least twice.

"Fancy" looking notification bars

I'm a noob (very). I am seeing alot of screenshots where people have really nice looking notification bars. I especially like the ones with the blue colored wifi, signal status and battery icons.
Are those from phones with custom roms? Can I get a theme from the market that will do that for me?
I am fully rooted but very new and feel I'm not ready to flash "stuff" yet...I paid $500 for our phone. I'm studying hard thought.
If anyone knows where I can download and an app that can make my notification bar look fancy I would greatly appreciate any info or links.
Thank you

Edit: Also what kind of phone do you have?

Not an app. A theme that you have to flash. Make sure its compatible with your current rom

Well to the best of my knowledge you can't really tinker with your status bar until you have a custom rom and for the most options preferrably one based off of a Gingerbread (2.3 +) build. If you are already rooted then flashing roms is really safe. Do you have Clockwork Mod Recovery?

Just because you're still running the stock rom doesn't preclude you from having clockwork mod recovery, when you rooted an app called "Superuser" should have been installed on your device. Also you may have an app called "Rom Manager" installed as well, if you don't have that one it's free in the market (and I highly suggest getting it, it is very necessary). Check to see if you have the rom manager app and let me know, if you don't, then download it from market and post back. I'll help you get clockwork mod recovery up and running, then we'll get you a basic understanding of all its functions. After that you can back up your device and get you a custom rom installed.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
@Jerry D - It looks like you have the Galaxy S 4G. If that is the phone you have, Clockwork is not quite ready for our phones. We do not have any custom rom's available at this time. So there is no way to change your notification bar.
@golmar88. Thanks for your reply. I have been reading or forum multiple times a day for a couple of weeks now and definitely up to date on our progress.
I'm that noob who is going to study and wait for something I can handle....
I saw rom manager on the market and thought wow this will be cool. I'll root and I'll have a "rom of the day". Lol.
I didn't know the work involved or the risk. After reading what is going on here I'm "hooked". I love learning new things and can't wait until I know a fraction of what some people on here know. I can't wait to flash my first rom.
Thanks again for all your help!

Discussing pirated apps is not allowed here on xda. The widgetlocker developer is actually a member here.
@OP I suggest asking in the ROM thread since this is very ROM specific and it looks like the dev added it in himself. Otherwise, unless you are completely glued to this one ROM I'm sure there's another JB ROM without this dragon.
(Personally though, it looks pretty bad ass. I'd love it if it were my phone)

You cannot get it officially outside of the Google Play store, unless its directly from TeslaCoil himself. When you download a paid app for free on another site, that is pirating.

Don't root and flash G2x if you want full functionality!

Don't root and flash a ROM to your G2x if you want it to fully work. I rooted and flashed Eagles Blood. At first there were a few bugs which I worked out. Then I found out the main problem that is absent from most threads on how to root and flash your G2x. They don't mention you'll have no video! What? There was no video recording, no Netflix, no ESPN and any other app that just so happens to let you stream or record video. I'm just saying it would be nice to see a warning or something telling you about it. Also, there is a lot of network data connection issues no matter which ROM I used. Beware G2x owners! I get the whole use at your own risk thing but you lose a main capability of the phone. If I just wanted to call and text I wouldn't have a smartphone.

Wow, if you want complete functionality go with a gingerbread rom, like stock rooted, or cm7, not ics. If you read in the OP of ics roms here, it lists what problems there are: no video, somewhat video acceleration, meaning only a few things dont work, among other things.

You can get netflix, video recording and playback all working on the ICS roms as well if you try.

Sunster you are my hero lol.
The only reason why a lot of videos won't work on ICS is because its missing its video drivers. To compensate the tegra2 will try to render them with the processor but honestly it can't do as much as the GPU can. If you were to install a gingerbread based OS you will get all those functionality back. It may not be included in the description of ICS Roms anymore cause most people already know about ICS not having video drivers. Anyways if you are going to flash a new Rom I recommend Cyanogenmod 7 or Eaglesblood GB based Rom but those are just my personal preferences.

I'm with the OP on this one. Rooting and flashing is so over rated. You can modify and enhance your phone with almost anything in google market. Flashing was just a fad for phones back in 2007. With our modern phones and google market, not only is it unnecessary, but very risky to flash as mentioned by the OP.
It's much more preferable to flash with an official OEM ROM, since unofficial roms could be maliciously programmed, which makes me suspicious why alot of amatuer developers bash LG and Nvidia for trying to make sure there's no open back doors for bad intentioned programmers to hack unsuspecting newcomers.

I'm with this guy. As a result of the dev community supporting this phone, I haven't completely lost it and gone on to make the sales rep who sold me this thing eat it in send me to jail fashion. And frankly...we must have some real upscale individuals flashing roms around here if they're worried about some dev seeing the mundane details of their lives...I'd hate to think what would happen if someone knew when I was running to the store because my girl said I needed to grab milk and eggs. If you're using your phone to do things with security risks (like sending your credit card info out into the void) might want to consider not doing those things in the first place...

The original post just remind us how difficult and chancy rooting and flashing are for any phone, and particularly for the G2x, which at the moment simply lacks the software to run ics with all its functionality. Flashing is never as easy as it's made out here, and I doubt it leads to satisfactory results for most people.

If anything rooting adds a ton of functionality to your advice also allowing you to remove all of the crapware from your phone. It depends how you put it in terms. For example, jailbreak meaning installing a better ROM on your phone than the one you already have, and secondly, you can only jailbreak an iPhone being the term 'jailbreak' came from iDevices.
are you insulting me, because i'm not fat.
Jailbreak is a term use in iOS. In android, we root our phones. Why? Few reasons, to install custom ROM, it is mainly because that phone no longer receiving update, so have to rely on xda. 2nd, to over clocked your phone. 3rd , dislike skinned ui, example HTC sense , Samsung touch wiz and more. So they would go for pure android aka vanilla. Or some prefer cyanogen version. Anyway, welcome to android, you can find almost all information about your android phone here. Have a nice day

Google root + your device and carrier. It has worked for me as a new guy. Read up on it first and be careful as flashing roms and root can have permanent negative consequences. Just find your device here on xda and that should be a good starting point

[Q] Need advice on buying older phone possibly ATRIX??

Hi guys, I need an advice on buying an older model smart phone. I don't want to spend more than $200 on it and I was thinking of getting Atrix 4G that costs less than $200. Is it still good idea to buy this older model since it's not going to get an ice cream sandwich upgrade? Or does this really matter? What would be the lifespan left of this phone? I don't need this phone to play any games, I just need it to browse, email and skype. Do you guys have any other suggestions?
Thanks for your time.
Anything older than ICS is going to be pretty lackluster in my opinion - you might check to see what, if any, ROMs are available for the phones you're looking at.
Anything you can get for $200 is probably at the end of its "lifespan" already - not supported. Lifespan that you can use it - well, I imagine ICS will be supported for a while, but anything less is, to me, risking having apps you want to use not support it any more in the future.
You can get some decent phones at that price. You could probably get a used Galaxy Nexus - which would be a good choice as it will continue to be supported by Google likely for some time. It will just take a bit of hunting and sniping on eBay to get one at that price that's in decent condition.
Hi erikmarko,
I've bought a Motorola Atrix in november (160€≈200$). It's a great phone and a cool developpement tool. But CM10/AOKP ROM it's not fine for it. I don't know why there are many graphic bug (for example, i can't make a benchmark -> fc on 3d test).
But if you install CM7/9, you'll get an awesome phone for gaming and HD videos playing. For your requirements, what do you think about an Xperia x10 ? Cheaper than Atrix but great too for you if you want only check your mails etc...
Or if you have worries about lifespan, you can listen Pennycake and check eBay for a used Nexus or Nexus S (Google will support it longer than Motorola supports Atrix).

I don't understand your question. CyanogenMod is a custom ROM. Your can upload and install it to the phone. All you need is just a unlocked bootloader (there are tutorials on Google). Take a tour in the "Motorola Atrix 4G" section on XDA.
CM7=Gingerbread
CM9=Ice Cream Sandwich
CM10=Jelly Bean
If you need specific apps that require ICS, just install CM9.
For the Xperia x10, it runs CM9/CM10.
