Welp I am one of the stupid ones and installed MIUI on my Infuse, and like everyone else, I'm stuck on the boot screen. I looked at the post on the same topic and tried to do it but couldn't get it to work probably becuase the computer says that its an Unknown device instead of a Samsung device.
So my question is what do I do now that my computer doesn't recongize the phone as a device anymore?
Thanks to all that can give help.

And lesson learned - never install a ROM from another phone.
Yeah I know that now. Foolish mistake I know I shouldn't have made.
But, I have tried using that but when I connect the phone to the computer it shows to be an unknown device and Odin doesn't pick it up at all. My problem is, is that the computer doesn't recognize it as an Android Device anymore. Is downloading the drivers from Samsung going to help?
I'll have to leave that to someone else - I use Heimdall on a Linux box, I've never flashed from Windows.
Oh, ok. Well thanks for your help .
I fixed my problem. What I had to do was get another computer that doesn't have the Samsung Drivers or Kies installed and then install them. Once that was done Odin found the device and I was able to restore it.
So there's a tip for anyone who can't get their device to be recognized by the computer or Odin itself.
Or just uninstall/delete those drivers?

i have started to do this to since i got the infuse. ill tell you i dont miss driver issues one bit! linux/bsd/mac/whatever rock as long as you have supported hardware and that is becoming less and less of a problem these days.
re: Now Stuck
You need to try and pull the battery out and put it back see if you can get the phone into "download mode". If you cannot get it into download mode by doing that or using the up/down volume and power key combo then I would suggest that you purchase a "jig" on ebay. (they cost under $10 bucks shipped).
Here is the ebay link for the jig:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Samsung-Galaxy-...0563626533?pt=Cell_Phones&hash=item20ba3eba25
With a jig all you would need to do is to remove battery, plug the little jig into the usb port of phone and replace the battery, then wait 5 seconds or so and the phone will be in download mode allowing you to use Odin3 and flash back to "stock rom" to start with..
Best if you did that using the "Ultimate Unbrick" stock froyo rom after that
you can install infuse 1.5 custom rom or Bionix or the defused custom rom or any other rom.
Here is the link for the Ultimate Unbrick:

Good luck.

I tried that but it didn't work on my computer, but that's just my computer that could work for someone else. If that doesn't work though, you can get another computer and install the drivers on them and that should work.

Where are you trying to uninstall the drivers from? I have windows 7 and went to device manager or whatever and took it off there. Then reinstalled kies, worked perfect after.

1. Try reinstalling to drivers. Also make sure you're using the same USB port as Windows can be funny about it it sometimes.
2. if download mode is being difficult, go download the Android SDK from www.android.com. Install it, run it, and only download the platform tools. When that's done, open a command promt, CD to where the plaform tools installed (either c:\program files\Android\Android-sdk\platform-tools or c:\program files (x86)\Android\Android-sdk\platform-tools ), then issue the command: adb reboot download.
3. I suggest you check the dev section for bhundven's one-click collection. Uses Java and Heimdall vs. ODIN and works easily.

Get it back into download mode, go grab a bhundven's one-click. The one-clicks utilize Heimdall vs. ODIN, which means they use open-source USB drivers instead of the proprietary Samsung drivers. See if that enables the computer to see the phone. If so, flash the one-click

That's a good idea. Some people have reported conflicts between the drivers.
Why would only Odin 1.85 see my phone in USB Debugging and not in download mode? And all other Odin verisions never see my phone, no matter what state it is in... I am at work so I will give the one click another try when I get home. I never thought of uninstalling the Samsung drivers prior to install; however, I did use the one click method to no avail. However, Heimdall's one-click was able to see my device it just kept giving me a driver error. This is so crazy it might just work.

I wish I had a good answer. ODIN's a funny animal. I've been fortunate and not had any problems with it. I am hoping you are correct - maybe it was just a driver conflict. Let me know how it goes.
didn't work...
You could try downloading a terminal app from the market. Open the terminal and type:
reboot download
See if that does it.
***Update***
Okay, so Oneclick was not working at all no matter what I did with the drivers. However, in all my tinkering with it I installed the Samsung Driver, the Open Source one, and some gadget driver as well from oneclick.
Doing this put all these drivers in my computer. Then I went into my Device manager (Win 7) and looked at my USB driver and I uninstalled everything and went to the stock win 7 usb driver. Then I plugged my phone in and my computer began searching for drivers for this device when it decided that it would be a good idea to load all three drivers at once and voila my phone was then showing up on ODIN 1.85.
I then proceeded to flash my phone with a rom, probably the wrong one considering I was coming from 2.3.5 and my phone boot looped and then soft bricked(sorry if I used these term incorrectly, noobin it).
After, some nervous moment of scouring XDA I found the god-send of a post on getting in to download mode, using odin, and flashing stock 2.3.6 - thank you Raver(I believe). When I did this, my phone magically started obeying ODIN like a devout viking and is now running 2.3.6 superbly.
Keeping with my phones newly found viking heritage, I intend to figure out how to properly root it, update the kernal and modem(not sure which one is best), get CWM, and subsequesntly put in Valhalla Black.
Seeing as though this last rendevous with flashing caused me a little scare I may hold off and wait to see what the next big update is (maybe a port ICS variant) and then go with that.
Anyway, thank you Stephen for helping me out with this and to everyone in this post.
Here's some reading for you Tytan,

PS: Unless you wanna brick your phone, do not flash anything that isn't intended for the SGH-T959V Samsung Galaxy S 4G. You're saying you wanna flash a Vibrant ROM. You can, if you want an expensive paperweight. Happy flashing!
2.3.5 may have been for vibrant...yeah I think I got lucky. I did it prior to knowing about xda.

How are you getting into download mode?
There was a post in another thread where the person apparently was using the power menu to get into download mode or maybe the adb command.
Have you tried both the old fashion volume +/- and plug in usb cable? Or the adb command?
Do you have access to another computer? Believe it or not sometimes just changing computers will make the difference.
Weird when I replied there was no posts other than the ones on the first page...oh well glad its working now.
Hello all,
Firstly thank you for the great development and help the community is providing for GS4G. From the time I bought this phone (few weeks ago), I have been playing around with different ROMs. I try GB roms and ICS roms every now and then. Always go back to GB using 1 Click's.
Yesterday when I was going the 1-Click Heimdall, it failed in between with some error. After this, I am unable to boot into the OS or recovery or download mode. It comes to a screen which tells me that the firmware upgrade was interrupted and asks me to use recovery in Kies. I tried this, but Kies does not even recognize my phone anymore. Windows shows my phone as "unknown device". I tried uninstalling and re-installing Kies, but still no use. I hope there is some way to get my phone back.
I read somewhere about a USB Jig that could get you into download mode. I have ordered it from Amazon and it may take a couple of days. Meanwhile, if any of you can help, it would be great. Thanks!
youre soft bricked, this is fixable. The firmware upgrade interrupted screen is the same thing as download mode. try reinstalling the drivers which i think are found in the sgs4g BIBLE thread. after that, plug in your phone and make it go to the firmware upgrade interrupted screen and see if it installs the drivers. read lumin's guide. it explains everything step by step. im going to try to link it here soon.

Sounds like you need to run zadig.exe in the Drivers folder of the Windows distribution of Heimdall.
If that doesn't work, right-click on (My) Computer, select Manage, then select Device Manager. In the panel that opens, find your device, right-click on it and you can then look at its properties and potential change the driver there.
(Yes, this kind of shenanigans is another of the reasons I really dislike Windows)
Ok so what you should try is downloading the heimdall suite
https://github.com/Benjamin-Dobell/Heimdall/downloads
Extract and open the drivers folder and run zadig. Click devices/show all devices and if your phone is plugged in and in download mode it should see it. Install drivers and it should say drivers successfully installed. Then run your one-click jar file and it should work.

I tried all this. But, still Zadig shows my phone as "unknown device" and does not install drivers for it. Tried USBDview to remove any instance of Samsung & Android from the drivers. But, still does not recognize my device. Any other suggestions.
Try different USB ports on your computer.
Install Ubuntu (not totally kidding on that one, it will install side-by-side with Windows)
When is that jig getting there? One time I had a similar situation and I built myself a jig and it worked like a charm. Phone goes straight into download mode. I dunno if this will resolve your situation but I'm pretty sure this isn't the first time we've seen someone with this problem and then after trying several different computers and USB cables we usually say maybe your phone's USB Jack is messed up? And then the thread goes dead.

Have you uninstalled any drivers? Download and install the drivers from the bible thread if you haven't. Like suggested, try different USB ports and different USB cables. Sometimes it takes more than one try for some reason.

Have you rebooted your comp at all?? If no that might be the problem.
SUCCESS !!
Thanks a lot for all your suggestions.
Here is what worked:
- I opened device manager and uninstalled ALL USB devices (Yes ALL, not just Samsung, Android etc) and unfamiliar Storage devices.
- Then I rebooted once so that all other device drivers could be installed.
- Then I rebooted a second time and let it install any remaining drivers.
- Then I plugged in the phone and it installed the driver and now it started showing the correct device name
- Now, I ran the Heimdall 1-click and it opened offered to re-install drivers. I did this.
- After all this, I was able to get 1-Click GB rom installed and now back to VB.
(I think the key was "uninstall all USB devices" and "reboot TWICE")
glad you got it to work. ive had my share of soft bricks with this device and it always takes something different to get it to run right. im starting to think that my computer is alive because of this reason because it just doesnt like to play nice sometimes. LOL
Hey, I managed to brick my Infuse 4G trying to get Entropy's CM9 on it. I flashed it once and it was stuck on the samsung screen like it was suppose to but when I tried to go to CWM, I would get various colors, mostly blue and orange on the top and a big grey spot in the middle. I am trying to get it back to stock but I am having issues getting my computer to recognize that I plugged my phone in, neither Hermidall nor Odin recognize when my phone is plugged in in Download mode. I have downloaded Kies. Any suggestions?
If you had read any of the numerous other posts on this you would find that Kies creates issues so get rid of it and the colors are caused by the Froyo bootloaders on your phone, something that is fixed when you get GB bootloaders.

If you do everthing correctly and completely, it will get you to stock GB.
From there you can go to ICS and then if you want, to JB. Do not skip ICS and try going to JB. Hope this helps.

I tried installing the setup file in the driver and the computer still does not recognize my phone.
I have been without Windows OS for a couple of months and will be w/o for another 3 weeks, sorry.
You must uninstall kies and do not have your phone plugged in to the computer during the driver install. If I remember correctly, once you download the zip with the drivers to the computer, you have to extract them and then run the setup. Once that is done, reboot the computer and plug your phone into a usb port on your puter that you know to be working.
Should you go forward and use Heimdall, use the same port each time.
Again, I am assuming you are using Windows. With Linux there is no need to install drivers, it recognizes the phone. With mac- no idea.

The only thing you should have to do for Ubuntu to recognize the phone is enable usb debugging in settings on the phone and after that, enable it, most likely from your drop down menu on the phone.
Heimdall will be a .jar file - let me know if you need help getting it to open.

Shame the phone is bricked right now ;/ . Back to my Windows computer. Thanks for trying to help but I think something is busted in my phone that isn't allowing it to tell the computer what it is or something. I don't know. I am going to try my friends computer to see if it is something weird with my own Thanks again for trying to help. If I find a solution, I will post it.
I went into Odin mode and flashed TWRP in the AP/PDA as all tutorials say (I am skeptical about that, I think this is what caused my phone to brick. BL obviously stands for bootloader, but I wasn't going to question the experts). Afterwards, I went to restart my phone and now I only boot to a broken Odin mode which says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again." I cannot turn it off without taking the battery out, it reboots immediately. I tried plugging my phone in and running Kies, but I left it to detect devices for 10 minutes and it was still attempting to connect to my SGS2. I have absolutely no idea what to do, I've never gotten this message in Odin before. It was tricky to even get Kies as Samsung took down their link and replaced it with SmartSwitch. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
idk which tutorial youve read but you should of read mine, it uses odin3v1.87 and only pda is ever used and/or needed for the skyrocket.
u could be sol but trying my tut shouldnt hurt.

you could try flashing twrp or better yet a full stock firmware so all partitions get reformatted/repartitioned correctly, fingers crossed.

Thanks; the only problem is that I can't even flash anything at the moment. My phone needs Kies and the drivers first, the Odin/download and recovery modes cannot be accessed otherwise. Kies has never had my phone drivers beforehand as I never had Kies before my phone had problems I should have looked harder for more detailed tutorials like yours first (one of many oversights that I neglected as a newbie). I also forgot to mention I visited the cm wiki to try to flash a newer custom OS and the tutorial asked for Windows users to use Heimdall suite, which failed to work properly in Windows 10 (at least for me). I used it to install a driver which may have replaced my Kies driver but now that I had uninstalled Kies completely and reinstalled it just after my phone broke, I no longer have a way of getting those drivers back since Kies apparently uses the history of my connected phones to install the drivers. I may be completely wrong (I feel I am) so please correct me.

Well it's not the drivers. Kies simply won't connect for whatever reason. I've tried Kies emergency recovery but it needs my phone to have been plugged in to another computer somewhere in order to get a recovery code or I need Kies to simply detect my phone. I've installed the new drivers multiple times but it doesn't change any results.
fyi you dont need kies for any of my tutorials.
uninstall kies, restart pc and reinstall standalone usb drivers and restart pc.
