Hey,
So here's some backround info just so you know. I recentley updated to SkyICS 4.2F6-2.3 and I recently added the Awesome Beats App to my phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1765437
Previously before i flashed the update and added the app the in call volume was alot louder. I currently have the in call volume up but it still sounds really really quite.
Can any one let me know or find a solution to this problem.
Thanks
Any help would be appreciated..
p.s. I flashed to 2.4b of Sean's newest rom.

Happened to me too.
Cleared both caches.
Wipe data/factory reset.
Format system.
Reinstall according to his instructions.
Calls are super loud now and back to normal.
I have problems with the audio of the call with the following roms:
[ROM][MIUI][9/10/2012] MIUI.us v4.1 Jellybean based ROM
AOKP JB Builds (Sept 9th)
people tell me they can not hear me or hear me very far and hear an echo.
To the OP, it's probably a bad flash, also from my experience there is no app that can boost our in call volume, or at least none that worked for me.
To Iuk2009, did you try chancing radios and if that didn't work reflashing the roms? Also you could try asking these rom devs to make a phone.apk with noise suppression turned off which causes issues to some people. If you have a case try removing it, it may not have holes in the correct places.

TurboniumX Inspire Audio Fix
Confirmed working! Returns tinny audio to stock quality.
I have only tested with CM7, however it has been reported to work on other ROMs. Please make a backup before attempting this.
I've attached a ZIP that can be flashed from ClockworkMod. All you need to do is take a backup, then flash the ZIP. If it works for you, feel free to buy me a beer!
Original post follows:
I think I may have fixed the tinny sound issue on my Inspire (at least it sounds good to me now). I need someone else to test it though since I only have the one device and only a few people willing to talk to me 10 times in a row. Don't get your hopes up!
In the /system/etc/soundimage directory on a stock ROM there are several files that end in "_MCLK.txt". I pushed these files with adb to /system/etc/soundimage on my Inspire 4G running CM7 nightly build 8 with the Inspire kernel provided over at CM's site. I used Stock_Inspire4G_Rooted_r34p3rex_v01.zip as my "stock ROM".
Then I copied the /system/etc/CodecDSPID_MCLK.txt file from the stock ROM to my device and overwrote the /system/etc/CodecDSPID.txt file. Reboot and it appears to have eliminated the tinny sound for me.
Can someone test this and see if it fixes the issue for you? You'll need to get the files from a stock ROM since I can't post download links yet. Here are some instructions:
Make sure the phone is in USB Debug Mode.
Code:
adb shell mount -o remount,rw -t ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p25 /system
adb push Sound_Bass_Booster_MCLK.txt /system/etc/soundimage/
{repeat above line for each file that starts with 'Sound', should be 27 of them}
adb push CodecDSPID_MCLK.txt /system/etc/
adb shell mv /system/etc/CodecDSPID.txt /system/etc/CodecDSPID.orig
adb shell mv /system/etc/CodecDSPID_MCLK.txt /system/etc/CodecDSPID.txt
Then reboot.

Hi,
Just one question for clarification.
This fixes issues caused by using Custom ROMs?
What about the low sound volume in general on untouched Inspire 4G?

I think it fixes at least the tinny sound during phone calls. I couldn't tell you about low sound volume, I never noticed it before.
The below is all fixed in the ZIP in the OP. Disregard.
I had an interesting problem with my method in the OP. After renaming CodecDSPID_MCLK.txt to CodecDSPID.txt and rebooting, there would be no sound from any application except the phone until after placing a phone call. The phone call sounded great, and then the other sound apps would work fine.
I did some more digging and it looks like the following change is needed to the CodecDSPID_MCLK.txt before renaming it. Add the following line to the bottom of the file:
Code:
Recording,/system/etc/soundimage/Sound_Original_MCLK.txt
After this, sound seems to work immediately after reboot. I've checked it two or three times now and it still seems to sound great. Phone calls sound like stock now IMO.

I can vouch for the call quality. It's back up to stock quality again!
And, in general, the audio quality for system alerts is the same as stock, although this wasn't that bad in the first place.
Anyone else want to try and post results?
Nandroid backup first through Clockwork Recovery, just to be safe. I did.
By the way, tested with CM7 Nightly #8, with the kernel from CyanogenMod forum.

Excellent! I posted a zip that can be flashed in the OP. If you don't mind, give that a try and see if it works just as well.
will this work on android revolution? if so I'll flash it and test..

I thought Android Revolution didn't have the tinny sound problem because it was based on the stock ROM? In any case, you can try it -- I doubt it will cause problems but I'd take a backup using your favorite tool beforehand just in case!
Worked perfectly. Thank you.

For some reason I am still experiencing some tinny in call sound, I believe others are too. I'm backing up right now so I'll let you know how it goes.
update: holy sheep poo batman IT WORKS MANY MANY THANKS, mind if I link to this in the android revolution thread?
Wow!!! I hope its not placebo. Mine sounds much better too. Can't remember stock sound but its definitely better than a call I just made to voicemail before installing. Devs need to cook thins into all kernels now.
Sounds great!

You just flash the zip from ClockworkMod like you do any other ROMs and kernels. There are many resources on the Internet (most of them on these forums) that can help you better than I could.
Tons better.
Nice job, man.
Worked like a charm on mine good work n good idea to check the stock Rom to locate the proper driver's
I can confirm that this is awesome... many thanks
file name has cyanogen in it... but it's good for any rom?
Thanks! I used your fix on Telus's Desire HD and it seems to sound better too!
Port of MIUI, with MMS working.
READ BEFORE YOU POST ANYTHING:
WIMAX?
NO. NEVER. If you want to know why, ask the Chinese authors of this ROM.
ROOT APPS NOT WORKING:
Make sure you have enabled root access in the settings of the Superuser app!
HINT: Look in the "Tools" folder.
A note on the built-in SMS splitting: I don't trust it. In my short testing, with the counter setting (e.g., the "(1/2), (2/2)" stuff) turned on, receiving the messages was inconsistent with version 1.7.22. Turning the counter off seemed to produce more consistent working behavior. With version 1.7.29, the multiple messages would send, but the phone will still report errors with sending. Personally, I'll still use Handcent.

I take NO credit for this, aside from just helping to put it together. Huge thanks to jefftet for ongoing help. Thanks to warttack for helping to get things started.
Kernel is the standard CM7 kernel. Any AOSP 2.6.35 kernel should work (e.g., mine!).
Current version:
DOWNLOAD THE LATEST VERSION FROM MIUI.us: http://roms.miui.us/
Thank you!
Thank you so much. I've been waiting for this issue to be resolved and was the only thing keeping me away. Thanks again for taking yours and others time and resources to work on issues that you were not obligated to do, its very appreciated.
Nice! Downloading as soon as link is fixed.
Been waitin for this. Time to back up my apps

I wiped cache and dalvik and flashed over what I already had with no problems!
Sorry about that, after we realized the bugs I never updated the OP. When I can get some extra time I'll continue messing with it.

Dont know how exactly the headphones are controlled, but I took a look inside framework.jar and at path "/smali/android/media/AudioSystem", it looks like there are a bunch of references to output and headphones there.
Hopefully that'll help you a little. I always hated searching for simple smali edits to change one stupid thing.
<Blaze One>
I need verification that this works. It worked on mine for the headset issue.
NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING!!!
1. copy file from miui 1.4.29 system/etc/TPA2051_CFG.csv to sdcard.
2. with root explorer copy file to system/etc/
3. reboot and test.
I tested it with my sirius app which did not play with headphone before and now does.
Hello All,
Last night after I S-Offed my Desire S I instantly installed Custom ROMS for HTC Desire S and encountered a problem. No matter what ever I do,while I call or be called,I can't hear a voice neither the opposite party can hear a thing. Is there any fixes to this bug ? Neither whenever I get a call or SMS I cant hear the ringer-tone!
I also have encountered this same bug in many Custom ROM'S.
Neither I can't hear sound in any Media or Radio,Nor the loud speaker works!
Somebody please help me out!
Thanks in advance

Did you S-off using Revolutionary tool or HTC Dev website?
Can you post the contents of your bootloader screen and also what custom ROMs you have tried?
I have flashed via Rev,I asked some people about the fix and they told me to radio flash it...
I tried to flash the radio and it shows Fail PU - Press Power to Reboot.
Then I reboot to OS.
:/
Custom ROM's :
Cynogen MOD : 7.1 Stable and 7.2 Nightly and 9 Alpha
And BeatMod BlissSense Hybrid v3.2
I ain't no expert but try reverting back to the stock rom and see if it works

I also have that problem! First I was using MIUI (since August 2011, till January 2012). There is a "CallDelayPatch" on Market. It fixed the problem for some times, but not everytime!
After that i went to CM 7.2 Nightly! It was working perfectly first days, but also with that ROM I got same problems after some time!
That problem has taken me the pleasure to flash and test Custom ROMs!
So now I'm back on Stock (Prerooted) and my next ROM will be Stock-ICS
Finally I have got the fix!
Tell us about!!
@Mouzza,try the CoreDroid release and all of your problems will get fixed!!!
I flashed my DS with it and all started working like a CHARM!!!
I am running R4ins AOKP JB Rom Oct. 10th. I have noticed with every new version of the ROM that comes out, the in-call audio is so muffled and low. Does anyone know of a sure fix- I have read about Speaker + and a few other market apps but none of these seem to do the trick... Does anyone have a sure fix please?
you can look into my sig and try to use thw alsa mixer app some people have found it to work and some havent good luck

Have You flashed the Kernel from the .zip, or from another ROM? I see your kernel is for miuiv4, so maybe that's why your mic doesn't work.

I've tried CM4.1.2-kernel-21_modded.zip but nothing changed.
FYI i'm just curious(it is custom and its appereance so beautiful ) so i tried the ROM and tested it, for now I already restored my phone to the latest backup before i install the MIUIv5.
But still if there is a solution to my kind of problem, please share here... maybe there will be another guy with the same problem comin here asking for the solution
thanks for replying :good:
I had the same problem with calls, but using either version from miuiandroid or en.miui works fine.
