So guys I have been very cranky as of late. I want to say that I am sorry.
There is way to much going on in here that is not making us devs feel very good about helping, and it is making some people very cranky. That is no excuse, so I want to applogize for being a real PIA in last week.
Now, to all those that keep posting new threads for anything they feel like, like I just did here , we will report you from now on, with out any reply to your threads until you get the picture, no more arguing about it, no more posting links to the rules.
Now I do have some good news, this leak is not all bad we have found an insecure bootloader in it. it is labeled as an NS bootloader, go look it up. I am doing a whole crapload of research right now, so I am not ready to share much, just that we have found something, just not sure exactly what the use is yet. This NS BL is how they unlocked the OG Atrix. Keep your fingers, toes, whatever else crossed that I can figure out how to flash it.
Here is a screenprint of the files in the ATT leak, if you notice the file name mbmloader_ns.bin, that is a "non-secure" bootloader "loader":

just too many frustrations on either side.. the long ICS wait made everyone anxious, which turned into excitement when we finally got it and the bricks got a few pissed off and many worried.. Thanks Jim. Nice post. I was beginning to worry about the xda Atrix 2 scene here haha. As long as cool heads prevail i have no doubt all efforts will come to fruition. The Atrix 2 is a real sleeper and a bargain for most of us here as well a nice piece of hardware. It would be a crime not to crack the bootloader code.

Since you've found this Jim, I've had one question that's been pondering me since being on this ICS leak. Under developer options there is a development devise id. MOTO has promised time and time again that they are going to give the option to unlock the bootloader (which we all have heard too often and now is the boy who cried wolf) but they have again stated this with future phones being possible. Do you think this development device id could tie into that and be something like what HTC is doing? I may be grabbing at straws but why is this id even here??

That id is there, because this is an engineering release, not a standard leak... we were not meant to get this, and it did not have any "silver bullet" like several thought. I spoke to the mobile design group at my client today and they have confirmation that the fxz thing is just a part of the no going between major releases thing that android has ALWAYS had.
We will most likely need that dev id when and if we unlock the BL with the NS version. More research still is needed and I am early in my hunt, so once I have more I will share.

I was wondering about that developer device id too! I want sure if it was just on my phone out all leaked versions but i was afraid to start a thread that has anything to do with ics. Lol!

Those are only 1 link in the chain, so we will still need to do a math crack against the BL files, and that can be used for 1 link in the chain, but with out more links in the root CA, it is really pretty useless.

I never owned the OG atrix but my limited understanding to unlock that device is there is an SBF file (system boot file) that was first flashed using RSD and then you boot into fastboot and i'll just quote:

fastboot oem unlock
You will now receive a warning along with a unique device ID
Type the following commands using your unique device ID in place of the ####:
fastboot oem unlock ####
fastboot reboot
________________________________________________
Now what I wasn't sure about, was this SBF file provided by Motorola or did a hacker/dev create the SBF file?
And does it seem like the process is similar for this device?

Your thread tuning into a flame war, was really the big reason why I posted this, that and all the other crap I dealt people in the last week, with all the ICS mess. I never meant for your thread to end up like it did, I made my first posts before you even had the poll up... LOL... I prolly should have waited unitll it was up to see what it was really all about, and yeah it would have been nice to know, but I think the timing was just bad.
Sorry about all that again.
That unlock stuff you posted is all from the Xoom, unlock method since it was a google experience device.. I know i have one and I had it unlocked before I ever got it into my house (in the parking lot when I bought it).
That will not work for us, since our BL has no unlock feature. We will have to figure out how to flash the NS bootloader and what efuses we need to trip to make it work.

Does anybody know how to flash my captivate back to the original att stock rom? I installed that new froyo update but too much of the stuff i like is now missing. I would like to flash it back to the stock rom eclair and wait until the official release from ATT, besides it's really not much faster then the original stock rom anyways

The android market doesn't recognize this build so a lot of the apps that i had before i downloaded the 1 step 2.2 is no longer available to be me on the market. Not to mention still no dial from bluetooth headset support. Also I can connect to the att update software server anymore. So when there is an official update from android and att ota, i won't be able to get it. From what im hearing the official release will have bluetooth support so that i can use voice activated dialing. I don't understand how any cell phone company can make a phone now these days with out that already cooked into there stock rom. Most of all i can't believe i bought this phone knowing it did have voice acivated dialing...luckly im still within my 30 day return policy. I will be taking it back to best buy and trading it for the iphone 4. Reception might not be that great but that can be fixed with a case. At least it has voice activated dialing which is essential today. Not too happy with the captivate...but thats what i get for venturing out to try something new i guess...lol!!! i have learned my lesson...stick to apple....lol

Use Odin one click, if you can't find it with that much information you shouldn't be on the internet, much less flashing your phone...and really this isn't development at all, this doesn't even belong in general anymore due to the number of times this has been answered in dev, general, and the individual threads of the developers making the ROMs.

If you come on here basically slapping devs, the android OS and Samsung in the face with your comments, you can't honestly expect the friendliest of replies. Here's how i see it first of all you don't know Apple that well to advise that they have developmental limitations...obviously the stock price compared to google Android tells the story...enough said there. Number two I was just asking a general question and one your drones decided to insult me by calling me a "troll." I honestly don't see why you people get so upset at the mention of the iphone and Apple, who's on the defensive here? Im pretty sure Apple doesn't see android as a threat and im sure they are not on the defensive about the samsung captivate. At the end of the day...apple has been doing it a lot longer then Android and that's that. Most of the apps on the android market are junk because the market is not regulated like the App store at Apple so the so-cal developers can put anything on the android marke regardless to the app doing what it's suppose to do. Apple on the other won't allow developers to put apps in the App store unless it does what it suppose to do...is that what you meant by "develpmental limitations?" Because Apple won't allow you so-cal developers to pass off junk onto the App store like they do for android? At the end of the day Apple will continue to be the leader and Android will continue to try and keep up. Enjoy you Captivate, lets see how long your captivated by it.

I know i have did a little joke about the CDMA Hero and webOS but it was in fact harmless, and since i will be getting a hold of the 3.0 WebOS rom, I am going to work on "Porting" via emulation on the EVO 4G. (So no one can ban me, and everyone can use it, even without ROOT.)
If anyone wants to help, or has ideas, drop me a PM or even just reply on here.
I will be doing this LEGITIMATELY and LEGALLY of course, and also, i will be updating this thread almost everyday.. ALMOST everyday. NOT everyday.

lets get this right haha he didnt photoshop anything, he downloaded a webOS screenshot and opened it with the gallery, he didnt even have the decency to do a good photoshop job
also im amazed he even bothers to show his face around here, it wasn't cool what he did, and all he has done is discredit the devs that actually have legitimate ability

i think i flashed mikfroyo as one of my first roms, alooong time ago don't really recall, i miss webOS, and would like to see it on the evo, 9 hshalf of it is due to screen size and possible better performance on better hardware. but i am still happily waiting for the new hp phone.

I had the palm pre before I got the Hero and then the Evo... I only got the Palm because I switched from T-Mo and the G1 to Sprint and there were no Android choices on Sprint yet... The Palm Pre was a decent phone.. better than that iPhone I had way back when on AT&T.... but.. It doesnt hold a candle to where Android is at today.... WebOS has been stagnant compared to Android development and I don't expect that to change any time soon.
Ahhh I remember you I was following that thread man when I had my heroc shame on you for that. You made alot of people upset so your respect as a dev is nonexistent until you provide dude. You even went all out to photoshop pics smh. In blankstare news.....is it 4/1/11?

HA! Your right, I remember somebody found the same pic on google! I forgot about that, lmao. I agree with the second part of your post. I remember mrinehart or something close to that was the main Dev for that project. He went away for some break at school for 2 weeks. In the mean time this cat (OP) started saying he got it to boot and started posting files. The first brick was blamed on the flasher not following directions or something. Then it was he posted the wrong ROM files. Then he loads up more files, claiming these were the ones. By that the mods got wind and locked the thread down. Same should be done here before some n00b gets a brick from this clown!

Good find! I do recall the dual boot script and him trying to re-release his bricks/files, lol. Kinda sad because he sent mrinehart into hiding. I ran into him on Android central not to long ago though. We were both working on building a AOSP for the Optimus S, didnt get to far. SD mounted, sound worked, then Beezy got the radio working, right after that Zefie released a CM7 rom

Now I never used evil D's rom/kernel or anything. But on serious note as another user in another thread said his rom may have radio.img in it maybe the reason it was pulled. As we all know the danger with corrupted radio.img and as the user says he didn't supply folks with md5 checksum which would give higher risk of bricking the device if corrupted. So maybe thats why it was pulled who knows only evil D and dingleberry mods knows.

Well technically yes legally HTC can make claim and have it removed. But in the past they have not done so as they actually have very open standard with Android development world. As more news hits of unlocked bootloader and opensense sdk which proves more on that matter.
Far as stolen source code goes let say from another user no one else has put any projects as evil d's contribution is known in our community. Now the new mods may not know this as they don't even own MT4G nor has they been in our sections until Option went MIA. If these new mods do lock/delete it then all of the evil D users should boycott XDA and go download from his direct site if they have it. It seems XDA is becoming very cocky atm with its 4million userbase which can drop any min if main developers pulled back from here.

lol you really don't know who I am then. I can't clearly say I support any type of moderation's let it be mod, super mod, admin as I have dealt with all of them in here. I just think they should assign new mod who at least have a clue with the device we have. Also the new mods nuked alot of my posts which actually had no flame, ect and was actually informative. If they contributed to our device in any ways I would be supportive but since they haven't I can say I share their value. Whos/Option both where our own MT4G member but the other 2 new mod's now don't even own MT4G. So they actually offer nothing to the members here.

But far as rom goes I stick to AOSP as I am not big fan of Sense based. ATM using CM7NB86 (AOSP2.3.4).
I like the customization, nice look. I was CM7 for a little bit, I loved it, was going to switch back but I got hung up on the HTC apps. I still can't find a ROM that does VM notification for 'mycarrier', it never works and bugs the crap out of me, so I use googlevoice.
I agree that mods should be experienced with the hardware/software that their respective sections of moderation use. runs smoother that way and I think overall creates synergy(I love that word). But the objectiveness of a mod that doesn't have any affiliation with the section can be useful in when stopping disputes/flame/etc. IDK the real reason why the thread was locked but it seemed like that move was jumping the gun a bit.
I also see that another developer that was pretty new and had posted 3 roms within the last week is suddenly gone now also. He had a really good stock rom for MT4G that was GingerSense but now all of his threads and posts are gone. Nowhere to be found. Can only see his roms via rom manager.

Anyone know why its currently closed yet? I had my suspicions about text9 app included, but he said it was okay cause it wasnt full version and tmo is putting it on future phones instead of swype im guessing.

If you read a few pages back into the thread, it should be pretty obvious why the download link was removed and the thread temporarily closed. None of the issues discussed in this thread are the real reason. It should be an easy fix, so hopefully the matter is resolved soon.
Couldn't be something as simple as the missing MD5 sum could it...?

Or you could have told the OP why in single line instead of him reading few pages. Some folks like myself never used his rom's much less visited his threads but we would be still interested to know why.
it may be the fact that the thread turned into a pissing contest and everyone was arguing about stupid crap like evil updating the rom everyday. which i dont see them pulling the rom for that reason. glad i have every version downloaded already

Apologies to OP, but quick Adfree Android question: is there documentation for it somewhere? I checked out bigtincan.com and it doesn't have anything, and on the Android Market^H^H^H Google Play site there's very little by way of documentation. I think it just did its job, but it presents a lot of choices and it would be good to know what they all do.

Is there a specific reason your being so rude? Or are you feeling insecure that there is another bad ass dev coming out with fixes. or is it your just that stuck up and must have all the likes. Last I heard Android is open source and last I checked we were all supposed to help one another not point out each others down falls or pick at them. Do you really think that k0nane's post was rude? Really? It is just another way to accomplish the same thing. That dude gave us root. That in itself is way more than most have offered.
I thank everyone for the work they're putting in for this device, but to say that his post was rude is reaching a bit. He just gave another option, and it is a good one.

badass dev? when is he coming?
anyways in all seriousness the point that k0nane was trying to make i believe was fully justified. by using nicks tweak you rely on him updating it, which from the looks of it... doesnt seem to be happening. what does android being open source have to do with helping or not helping? as far as i can see there was an alternative given thats all, no different than if i made a huge giant post about how to use alogcat and get your msl. which works fine but there is an easier way of just using getprop.
so far from what ive seen of this community is a bunch of crying on how there are no roms/kernels etc. we had one blaze owner in teh irc for teh longest time. helping with root/recovery and whenever starskyrob had a moment to test his rom. everyone claims to want cm7/cm9/aokp/ics yet i havent seen anyone except (forgive me for misspelling your name if i did) dr4stic even try to compile. if you want good things to happen to your device then you need to step forward, look into rom development, learn how to compile the kernel from source. if you cant/arent willing to put the time in then find someone who is ive mentioned all around this forum no dev is gunna give up their high end device to go buy and work on the blaze.
myself and k0nane are on sprint it just happened to be that we like to go around and help phones that dont seem like they are gunna get the big name treatment. i tweeted at my buddy mikeyinid (we worked together on the nexus s back in the day) see if he wouldnt mind helping you guys on out...

And that is 100% respected. I am not only talking Bout this post, rather all of his post that have followed one of nicks. I am glad you guys helped. But that doesn't give the right to treat others in a condescending manner. Nick has done amazing work on the vibrant and now has this phone and wad helping this man. Once the man got what he needed ( because like you stated, he nor you have the device) he was out. Then started treating him like this. Shabby, problem wasn't with you. I just had to step in and defend nick because he is a bad ass dev.

I personally think a lot of the problem is the average user's interpretation of T-mobile sales reps.
I mean, I knew the S2 had a very large rom community especially because it's a very popular phone. I was led to believe by T-mobile that the phone is pretty much just an S2, but with a smaller size screen.
If you compare the phone's features and specifications, you'd be a fool to not agree.
But as it turns out, as it pertains to roms, nothing could be further from the truth.
Shame on us, the average user, for not realizing the golden rules with salespeople:
1: They'll tell you what you want to hear.
2: Most of the time they don't know what they are talking about anyway.
3: Often times when you need to buy a phone, you've not exactly been planning on it, so you have to do it hastily. This was certainly true for me.
4: Custom roms are of course never able to be supported or recognized by the carriers, they pretty much pretend they don't exist, and for good reason. Most people aren't really careful enough to be doing it, even for the "simple" methods.
5: Rom maker's ability to communicate instructions is not always clear, and yes, this can have a detrimental impact to a person, especially if they are not experienced with the process. Seriously, half of the roms I've looked at for Android phones have glaring instruction errors, and even if it gets pointed out by another person, rather than update their instructions they'll just reply, "Yeah, sorry about that" The problem is, that clarification is often times on the 40th page of the thread. Sigh.
6: And this is my number one reason........
A lot more people should be getting more and more fed up with carriers who impose limitations on phones. Seriously, if it wasn't for all this carrier and manufacturer ego-wagging, the user experience would be better for both the tweaker crowd, and the stock crowd.

I appreciate the help with root and CWM but not the comments that follow all of mine. I have Saturdays to work with this device, so I am limited with time. I got to the point where I felt like baking for my wife and I ...= less drama. Ill be more than happy to post a "bootable , Functional Rom. Sorry I can't sit here 24/7 I work 6 day's a week and spend the extra time with my 3 kids. I got to a point where I was neglecting my fam and was staying on the PC trying to keep up with 5 Rom's. Something had to give. What am I not updating? Is there a need? This will be put into my rom instead of an extra app. If something needs updating when I update a rom it will be done with each release. If it is unappreciated just delete the thread.

Technically, unlocking the bootloader would make building stock jelly bean infinitely easier.

TCF, while I appreciate your enthusiasm, a couple things to be noted. The devs have been trying to crack the bootloader for a LONG time. And at this point it's doubtful. Second, did you actually inform the devs that you were going to put up this poll? As you have lumped their names in here as well without actually doing it on purpose. By saying what should the devs do next, you are assuming they are on board with you. You need to approve a poll like this before making assumptions mate. A better idea would have been, "What would you like me to focus on next?" That way you leave the other devs out of it. Be careful with this mate....

If u r 14, STay IN SCHOOl, then use the free time that u have to work on bl unlock because it is fun to learn. many guys here dont have free time and are aware that a bl unlock is possible, but have no time. We are seeing you are capable, no need to try and impress us.

Seriously tho that's a tough one.
I don't think unlocking BL is major issue,we have safestrap and we can flash custom rom's
Flashing custom kernels is not priority.
To have a stable roms like CM and miui is the best path to take.
Hey, tcf38012, I get the enthusiasm, and that you want to be a dev but, posting this without talking to any of the other devs, is just working against us and not helping us.
If you want to be a dev, and part of our team, communication with the rest of the team is key. If you want to go your own way, that is cool, just stop including the rest of us in your commitments. If you really want to be part of our team, then start PMing us, at least, before doing these type of things.

And this is my hobby
@jimbridgman - I think it is clear of the bootloader unlock so we can flash a custom system.img, recovery.img, and all that. So you can close this thread now
And finaly the reason for not having both, Motorola has so many android's now, that they can't keeep up with them all. It is all Motorola. Not AT&T, but %100 Motorola.

Yeah, but we already have known this for a year now, that we needed the bootloader unlocked, and have been working toward that end, so again what was the point of all of this? I am not trying to be a jerk, just trying to get you to think about things before posting sometimes.
Look, I get it that you have some skills and want to help out, just talk to us first. As you have seen in many posts now, that alteredlikeness, rdavisct, cogeary, lkrasner and I talk and we all try and give a unified approach/answer most of the time, even if we don't agree on something we can usually still put our heads together and get around that, and find solutions.
Just give a PM to one of us next time with at least a heads up... Yeah I get that you are 14, and don't usually think because of excitement first, but, there are those of us that have been here since day one, busting our hump on this stuff, and this is kind of working against us, if we are not lined up and ready for the onslaught that will come from this, as I am sure you are probably not aware of how this will play out for the other devs and I.... I can see the PMs already starting now....
When is the BL unlocking coming, why have you not already unlocked the BL, tcf38012, said that was next, why not now, etc.. etc.. etc...

OK then, lock up and delete this thread. Throw it away beyond cyber space . And also, do we need a bounty for a bootloader unlock? I'm just thinking, everybody is deperate for an unlocked bootloader enough where it doesn't need much difference.

The reason for the bounty is so that we can get some outside help here. I and a few others have been hacking the BL for a year now, and we have learned a lot of things, but more devs looking at it can only help the situation, all anyone has to do is ask what has been done through PM, and we will explain it to the person trying to get it unlocked. This is not for public consumption though, since we have moto breathing down our neck to keep the BL locked, so..
Again I am not being a jerk here, just trying to get you to think about this kind of thing and show a little respect for the rest of the devs in here, by at least sending a PM and saying hey guys I am going to post a poll, asking what we/I should work on next, so you might get some questions, that is all I am trying to get you to realize here.

if you are going to speak on behalf of us here that do dev work, ASK US before you decide to include us in a thread. all this is going to do is make users think WE (the devs) are offering either options and are going to consider the majority voted option and focus on that option instead of the lower voted option. this is nonsense.

Hey, the title of the thread said "What should the devs work on next", not "what should I work on next" so that does include rdavisct and I, and I get that you want everyone to get along, but yeah he is 14, but what I asked him to do was think before posting on our behalf. When you get as many PMs a day as we do, especially because of posts like this, the volume of PMs increases, the thing is it seems that everyone in here thinks this is their support help desk for android and they do not think about all the hours and time we put into this, and your post is just a little insulting to me and the other devs... asking us to give him a break becuase he is 14... we have 2 people on the dev team who are both younger than 17 and they think before posting and PM and ask us before including us in things.... we are just asking for that same respect from tcf38012.
And what "exalted" group are you speaking of, that is just not cool. We (your dev team), do a whole bunch of things in here for you and others, and you make a comment like that, why?
And besides you have no clue what is going on behind the scenes.... just a little background, that we have been trying to help tcf38012, to become a better dev, and trying to give him some pointers,so...
