[Q] Flash Captivate back to stock

Does anybody know how to flash my captivate back to the original att stock rom? I installed that new froyo update but too much of the stuff i like is now missing. I would like to flash it back to the stock rom eclair and wait until the official release from ATT, besides it's really not much faster then the original stock rom anyways

The android market doesn't recognize this build so a lot of the apps that i had before i downloaded the 1 step 2.2 is no longer available to be me on the market. Not to mention still no dial from bluetooth headset support. Also I can connect to the att update software server anymore. So when there is an official update from android and att ota, i won't be able to get it. From what im hearing the official release will have bluetooth support so that i can use voice activated dialing. I don't understand how any cell phone company can make a phone now these days with out that already cooked into there stock rom. Most of all i can't believe i bought this phone knowing it did have voice acivated dialing...luckly im still within my 30 day return policy. I will be taking it back to best buy and trading it for the iphone 4. Reception might not be that great but that can be fixed with a case. At least it has voice activated dialing which is essential today. Not too happy with the captivate...but thats what i get for venturing out to try something new i guess...lol!!! i have learned my lesson...stick to apple....lol

Use Odin one click, if you can't find it with that much information you shouldn't be on the internet, much less flashing your phone...and really this isn't development at all, this doesn't even belong in general anymore due to the number of times this has been answered in dev, general, and the individual threads of the developers making the ROMs.

Wow...your pretty rude, but i have come to expect that from xda...anyways i'll be returning this piece of junk to ATT today...i was told this morning they are well aware of the froyo beta file out there and are telling folks that it's not the final release. They did offer to take the phone back even though i already flashed it. So that's cool Steve Jobs here i come!!!! im gettting a real phone...an iphone

I don't recall anyone expecting rudeness here at XDA, everyone treats people with the level of respect they are due. If you come on here basically slapping devs, the android OS and Samsung in the face with your comments, you can't honestly expect the friendliest of replies. Good luck with your iPhone and its developmental limitations. Our forum here is to share knowledge and developments in each respective phone and OS field, not to just bad mouth a phone and OS because you decided not to properly research their capabilities. The search function serves its purpose well as do the plethora of FAQs around the forum.

Here's how i see it first of all you don't know Apple that well to advise that they have developmental limitations...obviously the stock price compared to google Android tells the story...enough said there. Number two I was just asking a general question and one your drones decided to insult me by calling me a "troll." I honestly don't see why you people get so upset at the mention of the iphone and Apple, who's on the defensive here? Im pretty sure Apple doesn't see android as a threat and im sure they are not on the defensive about the samsung captivate. At the end of the day...apple has been doing it a lot longer then Android and that's that. Most of the apps on the android market are junk because the market is not regulated like the App store at Apple so the so-cal developers can put anything on the android marke regardless to the app doing what it's suppose to do. Apple on the other won't allow developers to put apps in the App store unless it does what it suppose to do...is that what you meant by "develpmental limitations?" Because Apple won't allow you so-cal developers to pass off junk onto the App store like they do for android? At the end of the day Apple will continue to be the leader and Android will continue to try and keep up. Enjoy you Captivate, lets see how long your captivated by it.

Makes a bit of sense. It's funny because I was starting to just get into it... I'm not sure I can wait, I might have to see what royalginger or faux's AOSP is all about. I'm addicted to flashing ROMs I think.

Now I never used evil D's rom/kernel or anything. But on serious note as another user in another thread said his rom may have radio.img in it maybe the reason it was pulled. As we all know the danger with corrupted radio.img and as the user says he didn't supply folks with md5 checksum which would give higher risk of bricking the device if corrupted. So maybe thats why it was pulled who knows only evil D and dingleberry mods knows.

Yea I don't think that was it. I'm thinking more of stolen code or some nonsense. but that's all just speculation. Whatevs, I am kind of attached to sense 3.0 now, but I have a taste for vanilla... I need two phones....

Well technically yes legally HTC can make claim and have it removed. But in the past they have not done so as they actually have very open standard with Android development world. As more news hits of unlocked bootloader and opensense sdk which proves more on that matter.
Far as stolen source code goes let say from another user no one else has put any projects as evil d's contribution is known in our community. Now the new mods may not know this as they don't even own MT4G nor has they been in our sections until Option went MIA. If these new mods do lock/delete it then all of the evil D users should boycott XDA and go download from his direct site if they have it. It seems XDA is becoming very cocky atm with its 4million userbase which can drop any min if main developers pulled back from here.

lol you really don't know who I am then. I can't clearly say I support any type of moderation's let it be mod, super mod, admin as I have dealt with all of them in here. I just think they should assign new mod who at least have a clue with the device we have. Also the new mods nuked alot of my posts which actually had no flame, ect and was actually informative. If they contributed to our device in any ways I would be supportive but since they haven't I can say I share their value. Whos/Option both where our own MT4G member but the other 2 new mod's now don't even own MT4G. So they actually offer nothing to the members here.

But far as rom goes I stick to AOSP as I am not big fan of Sense based. ATM using CM7NB86 (AOSP2.3.4).

I like the customization, nice look. I was CM7 for a little bit, I loved it, was going to switch back but I got hung up on the HTC apps. I still can't find a ROM that does VM notification for 'mycarrier', it never works and bugs the crap out of me, so I use googlevoice.
I agree that mods should be experienced with the hardware/software that their respective sections of moderation use. runs smoother that way and I think overall creates synergy(I love that word). But the objectiveness of a mod that doesn't have any affiliation with the section can be useful in when stopping disputes/flame/etc. IDK the real reason why the thread was locked but it seemed like that move was jumping the gun a bit.

I also see that another developer that was pretty new and had posted 3 roms within the last week is suddenly gone now also. He had a really good stock rom for MT4G that was GingerSense but now all of his threads and posts are gone. Nowhere to be found. Can only see his roms via rom manager.

Anyone know why its currently closed yet? I had my suspicions about text9 app included, but he said it was okay cause it wasnt full version and tmo is putting it on future phones instead of swype im guessing.

If you read a few pages back into the thread, it should be pretty obvious why the download link was removed and the thread temporarily closed. None of the issues discussed in this thread are the real reason. It should be an easy fix, so hopefully the matter is resolved soon.

Couldn't be something as simple as the missing MD5 sum could it...?

Or you could have told the OP why in single line instead of him reading few pages. Some folks like myself never used his rom's much less visited his threads but we would be still interested to know why.

it may be the fact that the thread turned into a pissing contest and everyone was arguing about stupid crap like evil updating the rom everyday. which i dont see them pulling the rom for that reason. glad i have every version downloaded already

New Inspire owner here

I'm not to the sight but I'm not to the Inspire and so far I like it. I haven't messed with it to much but so far so good. I was with Tmobile and had the G2x and I have to say so far I loved that phone. I left Tmobile because there coverage sucks where I live at so I switched to AT&T to the Atrix and that phone was ok. Well my dumb azz dropped in water, so I used my G2x since I had it unlocked until I found someone to trade my G2x for the Inspire.

Sorry I'm Brand Spankin new to ANDROID
I come from a Tilt 2 using windows mobile 6.5x flashing roms was easier there and the 1st post in that forum was Flashing for Noobies wich helped me out imensly here I see nothing like that so I thought perhaps someone in this thread could take me under their wing but I see now that this is a cold cruel forum or perhaps it's just you and a good guy/gal may come along and hold my hand for a bit till I can walk on my own in here so in the mean time ill search and read on my own but Ill always ask for help if I can get it and never turn down a helping hand anyway you recomend any better/easiest way to root my device and flash a rom that doesnt have carrier IQ on it (I hear thats one nasty rootkit) anythoughts on Cm7 vs MUMI stuff like that ya know

The only "help" I will offer is go the the inspire development section and see the hack kit thread. That is what you use to root. From there, as long as your read everything, you should be fine.

Try ace advanced hack kit. Its probably the easiest way to root the inspire. Just make sure you read the whole effin manual it'll make things way easier.

One way to to tell people to follow the xda rules and search before asking questions. If you search I promise atleast 8 out of 10 times you will find your answer.

Exactly man! Believe me when I say it I was a huge noob when it came to this phone (i.e. see my noob debacle in flashing radios in the thread I created when I first became a member) since then and by applying a reading level above the 4th grade, I've been able to educate myself and eliminating the need for pointless threads that have been created and locked and created and locked and created and locked over and over and over again, you kinda see how that gets annoying from time to time

Here in the inspire forums we like to do things ourselves. We also eat babies, beat our wives and not pick our children up from school. Now excuse me I'm going to go and cyberbully someone in another thread since they asked the same question.

So guys I have been very cranky as of late. I want to say that I am sorry.
There is way to much going on in here that is not making us devs feel very good about helping, and it is making some people very cranky. That is no excuse, so I want to applogize for being a real PIA in last week.
Now, to all those that keep posting new threads for anything they feel like, like I just did here , we will report you from now on, with out any reply to your threads until you get the picture, no more arguing about it, no more posting links to the rules.
Now I do have some good news, this leak is not all bad we have found an insecure bootloader in it. it is labeled as an NS bootloader, go look it up. I am doing a whole crapload of research right now, so I am not ready to share much, just that we have found something, just not sure exactly what the use is yet. This NS BL is how they unlocked the OG Atrix. Keep your fingers, toes, whatever else crossed that I can figure out how to flash it.
Here is a screenprint of the files in the ATT leak, if you notice the file name mbmloader_ns.bin, that is a "non-secure" bootloader "loader":

just too many frustrations on either side.. the long ICS wait made everyone anxious, which turned into excitement when we finally got it and the bricks got a few pissed off and many worried.. Thanks Jim. Nice post. I was beginning to worry about the xda Atrix 2 scene here haha. As long as cool heads prevail i have no doubt all efforts will come to fruition. The Atrix 2 is a real sleeper and a bargain for most of us here as well a nice piece of hardware. It would be a crime not to crack the bootloader code.

Since you've found this Jim, I've had one question that's been pondering me since being on this ICS leak. Under developer options there is a development devise id. MOTO has promised time and time again that they are going to give the option to unlock the bootloader (which we all have heard too often and now is the boy who cried wolf) but they have again stated this with future phones being possible. That id is there, because this is an engineering release, not a standard leak... we were not meant to get this, and it did not have any "silver bullet" like several thought. I spoke to the mobile design group at my client today and they have confirmation that the fxz thing is just a part of the no going between major releases thing that android has ALWAYS had.
We will most likely need that dev id when and if we unlock the BL with the NS version. More research still is needed and I am early in my hunt, so once I have more I will share.

I was wondering about that developer device id too! I want sure if it was just on my phone out all leaked versions but i was afraid to start a thread that has anything to do with ics. Lol!

Jim did you compare the two in hex there is a string of cert keys in the .ns one..... Is this of any use?????

Those are only 1 link in the chain, so we will still need to do a math crack against the BL files, and that can be used for 1 link in the chain, but with out more links in the root CA, it is really pretty useless.

I never owned the OG atrix but my limited understanding to unlock that device is there is an SBF file (system boot file) that was first flashed using RSD and then you boot into fastboot and i'll just quote:

Type the following command:
fastboot oem unlock
You will now receive a warning along with a unique device ID
Type the following commands using your unique device ID in place of the ####:
fastboot oem unlock ####
fastboot reboot
________________________________________________
Now what I wasn't sure about, was this SBF file provided by Motorola or did a hacker/dev create the SBF file?
And does it seem like the process is similar for this device?
My apologies if my questions are way off, I have a round about understanding of all this, but not a deep knowledge like some of you.
EDIT: one more question, do we even have the ability to flash SBF files at this point? (heard them referred to as "pudding files")
I read that replacement og atrix's were locking down of this capability

Your thread tuning into a flame war, was really the big reason why I posted this, that and all the other crap I dealt people in the last week, with all the ICS mess. I never meant for your thread to end up like it did, I made my first posts before you even had the poll up... LOL... I prolly should have waited unitll it was up to see what it was really all about, and yeah it would have been nice to know, but I think the timing was just bad.
Sorry about all that again.
That unlock stuff you posted is all from the Xoom, unlock method since it was a google experience device.. I know i have one and I had it unlocked before I ever got it into my house (in the parking lot when I bought it).
That will not work for us, since our BL has no unlock feature. We will have to figure out how to flash the NS bootloader and what efuses we need to trip to make it work.

This phone sucks

Any thing I can do to improve the performance on this phone it is really pushing me to the edge of insanity

I gotta say, your post title sucks. You have come and posted in the Atrix2 forum, where you have people who own and use and develop for this phone, and we all have a little pride in our choice here.
It sounds to me like you should do some searching on here. There are ways to OC your phone if you so choose, but I would guess you have a rouge app right off the top of my head, and I would start there, before trying any OC, maybe even CM10 or MM might also help before trying to OC.
Oh and questions belong in Q&A.
Now next time you post please think about what you are posting and who you are asking for help... in otherwords, a little attitude adjustment will get you way more respect and help... but saying right off the bat first thing, that this phone sucks, makes people want to reply with "Well then go get another phone, like maybe an iphone".... so keep that in mind.

you could always search, cause most of the performance related topics are already covered in here, and then maybe ask someone for help in the Q&A section before creating a new thread in the wrong section.

A gentleman as always. My first reaction was go for the jugular.

i see this phone is good in hardware and finishing, and the stock rom's / kernels can utilize the hardware power and manage memory in very good ways

Guess he does not have the same A2 as me because mine has been amazing since day one and keeps getting better..... This even at a year old is one of the best phones you can get..... Unless you had something like a GalaxyIII what do you compare this phone to that would make you say THIS PHONE SUCKS.....

Agreed, this phone rocks, your post sucks. As it hurts my eyes seeing it waste space on our forum. Learn some manners and have some respect for us who actually like this phone and could care less what anyone thinks. And again if your on this forum you should at least have the knowledge to know the difference between general topics on the device or Q&A (questions and answers) on the device... Just saying. I motion to have this thread deleted/locked by our newfound moderator(s). It's an insult to the great work that the dev team has done for this device to come in and post such an inane, pointless, substance starved thread about why this phone "sucks". Perhaps if you feel as such, you should refrain from pointing any fingers, because there's always three fingers pointing back at YOU. Realize this: you bought the phone, and had every opportunity to act upon your due diligence (or lack thereof) to research the device, its capabilities, its limitations, etc. When you make statements (and posts/threads, and so on) here in the community where people have spent countless hours working on it to make it what is has become that are as crappy as you have, it won't bode well for you at all. Try getting any support on a ROM that you flashed and subsequently deem "sucky", and see where that gets you. Have a shred of decent decorum around the forum.

I think it's quite opposite, this phone doesn't suck, it blows other phones out the water, performance wise.

It should work well out of the box. i shouldn't have to oc it to get good performance. Ahhh well i picked up an iPhone 4s this should keep me happy until i can get a nexus 4.

Sigh... It's his opinion that this phone sucks (and you know the old saying about opinions). We all know that the Atrix 2 is an amazing phone. We have amazing developers working on it as well. If this guy chooses to not like this phone then so be it. I wish him well in his Apple adventures.

Ios will never be better than android. I just dowloaded a photo from the internet i want to put the photo on instgram so i thought i'd just hit the share button and the instagram icon would come up like on android. Dude i had to go into the instagram app and then open the photo this sucks..... so I'm back on the atrix 2 again for now until i can get an n4. Only reason i think this phone sucks might be because i used to own a gs3( traded with my dad for his January upgrade and the A2) i didn't mean to piss anyone off sorry

Okay, you didn't mean to irk anyone, fair enough. But, what you should have done was at least had taken some time to really see what all this phone is capable of, before sluffing it off and saying it "sucks". I don't know how long you've had it, but seems like if you would make such a statement about the phone, you clearly hadn't taken the time to see its potential. You have to understand also, people have devoted countless hours to making this phone what it is, and claiming that it just "sucks" is certainly going to rub many people the wrong way. I personally will disagree with you with that claim, as would many others, and I have the SGSIII, as well as the Atrix 2. Both of which are great phones...
