Verizon Sends Out Rezound as Replacement for Thunderbolt - Thunderbolt General

Hi guys, just wanted to let everyone know that Verizon has run out of thunderbolts to replace your defective device. They are now sending the Rezound as a replacement, my buddy who works at Verizon in the tech department told me this last week. The issue i called in about to get my thunderbolt replaced was that it was randomly turning off, whether it was or not is up for debate lets just say Verizon won't be able to replicate my problem... Anyways the tech went through the script with me on the phone and i told them I already did the factory reset, replaced the battery and charger etc. So the tech proceeded to tell me that they would send me another thunderbolt as a replacement. I was disappointed when I heard this since my buddy told me that I would get a rezound. Anyways after i finished the conversation and got my order number i went online and checked it, low and behold it was for a rezound! When I received the rezound it was a complete set with the beats headphones, 16gb sd card, charger, battery etc. Just thought I would give everyone a heads up, I would get on this as soon as possible!

Did you send your old bolt back? If not, make sure to pop out the 32 gig sdcard!
Duely blundered from my thunderdolt.

Ya I had to send my old bolt back, I unrooted and turned s-on, kept my battery and sd card, it was a rezound battery anyway.

just a heads up, someone on rootz just did the same thing as me and they are trying to send him a LG Revolution

he is talking to them now, i will report what he finds out. I also have a call in to my buddy at verizon checking things on his end. but they told him they were sending another thunderbolt just like they told me, i had him check the order number and it showed a LG revolution, so he just called back.

Innit weird how inconsistent these replacement phone deals are?

And its free. Good stuff......

My bolt has been randomly rebooting ever since I washed it. But since it has been wet I assume I would have to go through assurion. I wonder what they have for replacement.

You can all read about this at the end of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1522737&page=20
My replacement Nexus was damaged so I had to speak to a tech to be sent another one today. He mentioned that the Thunderbolts were "low on stock" and they were replacing them with different phones. The offer originally made to me on Tuesday was any 4G phone except the SIII or Razr Maxx. Good luck everyone.
also, I should add that the OP got lucky and it sounds like he got an actual new device. You usually get sent a CLNR device, which I have had terrible luck with. It usually takes about 5 tries to get one that is "like new".

What is the current software version and Android version of current stock?

Im very happy to be getting a razar as a replacement. I mean lets face it single core just isnt cuttin it anymore. If u have owned a gs2 or galaxy note u know what i mean. For a single core device the hunderbolt is good. Once u get rid of sense.
The verzion woman told me the thunderbolt is a year and a half old and was retired awhile ago.
Hope that doesnt mean its not gettig ics.

Well.. I would have loved to get the razor as a replacement.. but. nope.. they are sending me another T-Bolt..
Not sure if its a regional thing or not.. but North East seems to have t-bolt replacements.

Are you guys "breaking" your phones on purpose to try for a different replacement or did you legitmately have a problem? Also, how long have you had your tbolts? Mine is probably a year and a half but my contract has been up since decemeber.

They're claiming they are broken to get a free replacement (upgrade) while keeping Unlimited Data. Verizon doesn't check, they contract phone refurbishment to another company, a lousy one at that...

I was hoping to get this as a replacement the other day, but I got another Thunderbolt. However, this was through Asurion, and not Verizon directly. Oh well..

I told them the truth, that I was unsatisfied with the battery life and the various data problems. I'm sure plenty of people, like the OP, are just making up an issue. I can't say I support that.
Mine was 13 months old, one month out of warranty. It takes some talking before they are willing to make an exception.

[Q] RIP HTC Inspire 4G (2/13/11-3/4/11)

So I was forced to execute my Inspire today. It was rooted, I've tried different roms/radios, flashed rooted stock rom/stock rom. It was never reliable: always dropping service, not receiving/making calls at random times, mms unreliable. I took it back to best buy to try to get it exchanged for a new one. Of course the phone was working flawlessly when I got to the store. The good news is that I had purchased the best buy protection plan for it at $10/month. I had enough of the phone not working reliably for its intended purpose and had to smash it in order to get a new unit. I went back to best buy and turned in the broken phone, and after more than a few suspicious looks from workers-got my phone sent in for repair. Of course it's not going to be repairable (I hit it with my baton , which crushed the screen and phone in the middle), so now I wait a few weeks for my new unit.
My question is, should I cancel my ATT contract and go with a different provider. I loved the actual phone, I just think the ATT "4G" service is horribly unreliable in my area. Or, are there any good Android 3G phones for ATT?
BTW, I am coming from an iPhone 4 before i got the HTC Inspire. iPhone worked awesome, I'm just tired of Apple products.
You can exchange/return your phone within 30 days so why the hell did you "smash" it?
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
If you were within the 30 days you had every right to just return it just because you wanted to.
I hope you get it all worked out. GL

I LOL'd when I read that
In my opinion, you have the best android phone AT&T has to offer...and on this thread? I think a lot of people will think the same thing. A lot of us inspire owners are previous captivate owners! That phone REQUIRED tweaking to get it to work smoothly (and for me, to get gps to work)
You could get the atrix, but there's not much tweaking/modding/flashing you can do with it due to a signed bootloader.
yeah, smashing it was a stupid thing to do.
cancelling your at&t contract will cost you a lot of money.
LOL, its crazy that someone has to go to those lenths to return a phone, but its true especially at stores like bestbuy its like ok so u want me to go in parking lot and run over it with my car a few times? then you will exchange it? and if u didnt have a problem with it why would u want a new one? Funny the smashing with baton part though.
^ he said, he was having problems.
i agree with others, you had 30 days to return it, i don't understand why you didn't just do that, and get another phone.

yea, $10 a month is nuts, i only paid $50 for the entire phone!
I don't think any of your understood, lol. Best Buy refused to take it back because it was working fine in front of them. And I did literally say to the kid working there, "So if I take it out in the parking lot and run it over with my truck, you guys will take it back?" He replied, "Do what you gotta do, if you come in tomorrow with a broken phone I'll act like I didn't see you come in today."
BTW I paid full price for the phone ($450ish).
You can return it for ANY reason within 30 days. Doesn't have to be broken.

That's what I was thinking. I didn't want to push the issue and get the manager involved only to deny me getting a new phone. Then, I show up a few days later with a broken phone anyway. I will most likely be buying my next phone at Costco.

Restocking fees no longer apply at best buy, and their return policy does not say something has to be wrong.

G2X No Longer on T-Mobiles Website

So if you go to T-Mobile's site and search for the G2x the only products that come up are the home dock and the car dock.
Any ideas as to why this could be?
Edit: was told the phone was on backorder via chat with rep. Sounds fishy. Even if the phone were on backorder they would still sell the phone and advise the purchaser that it was on backorder.

Wow
Wow, either they are admitting there are problems and removing it from sale for now or just an error. Gotta swing by a store and see if they still have it.
I notice they advertise it on their main page, but if you go to shop all phones its not there.... very weird. Hopefully they're not ditching out on the phone

If it is a QC issue I wonder what T-Mobile will do about it. Complete refunds or exchanges of similar devices - i.e., Sensation.
I doubt they would drop the product all together or that they will issue refunds or excahnges. My theory is that they might stop sales until a update is released.

If they did pull it for QC issues I really hope they do either give me a refund or exchange it for a comparable device (sensation I'm guessing)
Just remember the G1... they pulled it out of the lineup to catch up. Same thing went for the HD2, and a few others. You'll notice the magenta sidekick is in the same boat for upgrades. It's not quality, it's "we way oversold." I confirmed this with a friend that works in a call center.
Omitted !!!!

Why and what phone would we get to replace the g2x when sensation haven't came out yet
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk
Why do people care so much whether your current phone is on the website or not? I understand people interested in buying it but why do you care if you already have a G2X? You have a T-Mobile and Manufacturer warranty and if you are worried, return the phone.
My phone is far from perfect but yet the G2X is still the best phone I've ever owned. I couldn't care less if they stopped selling it. Might actually be cool to have a limited edition phone

Ur obviously not getting the point here. If they pulled the device for Qc issues and they push out new versions or fixed devices then ppl who already have the phone that has issues want to know if they can get a replacements. You have the device and it mysteriously disappears from tmo site, wouldn't I concerned that ur device is faulty
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk
just spoke to TMO, they said they have no information about it but I spoke to an account specialist in customer loyalty and asked if it does turn out to be true would they offer refunds or replace the phone, they said yes they would if it ends up to be true. They would either repair it, replace it(Guess when they fix the issues) or give a like device

I have an N1 so when I took back my G2x went back to it. I am patient and await the out of come of this craziness to determine wheter I'm going to just wait for the Hercules to come out. I refuse to get another HTC device until they fix their battery consumption issues.
I got stuck on a trip - my G2X battery started getting EXTREMELY hot and eventually would not charge past 20% - and had to go get another phone. No choice, had to have a phone.
TMobile was "kind" enough to replace my battery, despite the fact that the G2x constantly reboots, and has screen bleed.

Captivate Best Buy Insurance

So I took my Captivate to Best Buy last night cause it wouldnt turn on anymore and the captivate seems to have reached its end of life with their stock because they said they could not give me another one. If you want to stick with the captivate find an AT&T device support center around you. The factory warranty should override any Best Buy warranty. The support center will be able to replace the phone for you no problem. But if you do want the inspire go right ahead.
Do they have infuse? You could say you intentionally bought samsung and want to stick with samsung.
I didn't even think about that I was just like yeah ok.
Problem with the BestBuy warranty is that they are moving a ton of phones to their rapid exchange program. Means no more in store replacements and have to deal with refurbished phones... that sometimes show up in 1-2 weeks.
So far the cappy isnt on the list, so get the upgrade while you can.

Did they tell you that you had to play a shipping charge for the battery? I talked to two "managers" and they said they couldn't waive the shipping charge. I don't see a charge to my account yet though. The whole thing just seems weird to me. I never heard of having to pay anything for a replacement under warranty.

I agree with the theory that the G2X is about to be dropped by Tmo. When I spoke last week to someone from the presidents office about my situation, the person I spoke with implied no less. I definately left the conversation thinking tmobile is dropping the G2X. Of course they never actually SAID it. Really. I could have misinterpreted what they were saying, but it seemed clear at the time.
What HAS struck me is the unevenness in the way Tmo is treating everyone. Looks like they are doing as little or as much as it takes. But some of the experiences I'm reading about are completely different than mine. I've been treated very well in the end by Tmo. I love them compared to Sprint and MetroPCS. I'm a very squeeky wheel for sure though.
That said, although I thought I was promised a refurbed one in an ORIGINAL box (that is specifically what I asked for)this time, I received a refurb with the most ridiculous two piece sticker over the screen. It was in the same white unmarked shipping box that I've been receiving the other returns in. This one had all the accessories including a cover, but it wasn't what I wanted.....I have not had a working phone since day one and really really resent no longer having a matching box.
This fifth one, knock on my wooden head, seems good though! It is the first one that is an acknowleged refurb. No reboots in two days, and data has worked great. I had almost forgotten that my fourth one, as well as the other issues, also had a washed out screen with the whites looking darker. When I turned on this fifth one side by side, it was very obvious. The whites on number five are brighter and several shades lighter....very obvious.
And it's the same as my third one in that the screen bleed either goes all the way across the top or isn't there. LOL, it depends on your perspective. I think it isn't there, my wife says it is. Regardless, it is way better than the last one!
Please oh please no reboots!
So I'm very happy as of now. I've said all along that all I want is a good one.
But I'm still pretty bummed to not have a matching box.
I put my Sensation up for Sale and then promptly took it off.......don't wanna jinx things. Might need it for backup. But I sure do prefer the G2X and I hope it keeps working for me....
But I do think T Mobile will be dumping the G2X. Hope I'm wrong.
But what will the conspiracy theorists do now?
Oh yeh...find another conspiracy.
Well it's just an opinion. But really think about it. If it is (worst case?)Sept or later until an update and they are having the big problems we've heard fixing it, why would they keep selling it? Makes no sense. We all know it's a great phone, but they can't continue this way until Sept. or longer. That is a long time. They have to sell reliable phones.
Not a conspiracy theory as much as common sense really IMHO.
I talked with some reps at 2 local stores and they said they have some in stock but have not sold any in the last 2 weeks. One of them also said he's had about 5 people come back and exchange it for something else so he's not even reccomending it any more. That right there tells me Tmobile was lying about the reason for the price increase. Think about it. Why would they charge $250 for a phone that's worth $500 when there selling the Sensation for $200 and its worth $550. I asked what sold more and he said the Sensation is selling much better than the G2X ever did.

Did you quote the wrong post or did you not comprehend what I said. I didn't say either rep told me what Tmobile is doing. Both of them told me what's going on in there particular stores. I was simply proposing a question as to why the G2X had a increase in price when its worth less (retail) than the Sensation. So my question to you would be, what exactly did I state to be a fact in my post?
It's not a rumor that both of the reps in there respective stores said they have had them in stock for 2 weeks and have had multiple people return them for something else.

So I just got my 3rd g2x sent to me and thisbone appeared to be brand new. All the original plastics no finger prints...nothing. even the plastic on the lock screen. GPS works perfectly very little light leakage. No reboots so far...hmmm. maybe they fixed them or made new ones?

I agree with the theory that the G2X is about to be dropped by Tmo. When I spoke last week to someone from the presidents office about my situation, the person I spoke with implied no less. I definitely left the conversation thinking tmobile is dropping the G2X. Of course they never actually SAID it.

The odds of them dropping the G2x are about zero or twice that. The phone flew off the shelves. You have ultimate perfectionist trying to exchange their phones 5 or more times just to get the perfect G2x in their minds.
The 2.3 release is coming with a ton of fixes for the phone. Yes it is late, the G2x has enough hardware to keep it a current item for a year at least.
If you have enthusiasts going to all sorts of extremes to get G2x's, going exchange crazy....you have to see the desire for this phone.
All these G2x customers need to do is walk away from the G2x...instead they want their marriage to work out. Why would T-Mobile drop that phone. Why? Yes they will fix the software, but dropping the phone is a crack pipe dream.

The two stores near my house have a stock of G2X's and haven't sold any in the past 2 weeks. I know its just two stores but you would think if there flying off the shelves, they would be doing the same there. Like I said in a previous post. Both stores told me they had multiple G2Xs come back and exchange it for another phone so its not just the perfectionist doing it. I would think that if someone has a phone that turns off on them, most likely there going to return it. I don't think those people are returning for screen bleed but you get the picture

Screen Bleed Swap out days are over

After only a single attempt at a warranty replacement I finally got word from TMO today that they will no longer swap handset's for screen bleeding issues. The rep told me that it is now considered a known issue and will not swap anymore phones because they know that the new one will have the same issues as well. I asked if she knew anymore information about it and she said the only thing that they know is that LG is working on a permanent fix.
I asked if that meant a new handset for those with the screen issue and of course she did not know but also stated that the fix/replace/repair is definitely a hardware problem and LG is expected to make right on it. So for now Ill deal with random reboots, shutdowns, and crappy battery until the update. I'm just curious on how they are going to remedy the situation. Hopefully a release comes out soon at least identifying the issue.
So if you can still trade in then by all means go for it. I have had two reps tell me now that as of the 24th, they no longer exchange due to screen bleed. I didnt push the issue on a new phone cause I like this phone and want to see how it all turns out now that LG has the ball.
I originally posted an article on the issue here at Gear Diary
Here is the new post that went live today. Bleed Article Pt 2
I'd be willing to bet T-Mobile and LG lost money on this phone...I know they lost money by letting me keep mine...HAHA

I bet, this has been a huge farce for both companies, maybe both will come out of this having learnt something though..............yeah right!!!! lol
On another note I did speak with a CSR today her name was Nicole. She told me she could exchange for another if I wanted or she could offer me a nice discount on another phone. I rejected both, I was just trying to fish for information. So maybe the whole we are not replacing news hasn't filtered down to everyone yet, or you just got a rep that is tired of exchanging out G2X's

Ha... I've swapped out over 5 Mytouch 4Gs and the best way to go about it is through the chat on their website.
It all depends on the Rep. I read on the MT4G forum they quit swapping out phones for the screen issue with that phone... It's a wash. Depends on who you talk to and how their day is going apparently.
If at first you don't succeed... Call another rep... LOL
unless they notate the account and we get a sweet big red pop up saying DONT DO IT when you walk into a brick and mortar.

It's really an easy fix.....they just need to limit the backlight output to about 45% of the current max.
The screen bleed will almost never be visible, at that new max brightness. Of course when outside, and you want to kick up the brightness to max....it just won't perform the same.
The Optimus Black is supposed to be the new NOVA screens....I have not bothered to check to see what the bleed complaints are over there. Switching out the G2x to the NOVA screen as an undocumented upgrade would not be out of the question.

I've heard the Nova displays are supposed to perform good in direct sunlight but Vlad from Engadget said it falls well short of performing well in direct sunlight.

This is totally YMMV with the reps. She had to take some time and look it up in the "knowledge base" and said that she learned something new. It may have just been me but the rude chat representative and now the rep from the phonecall said the same thing. I guess it all depends on how much you push. I was most happy just to know that now it is seen as a legitimate issue by both TMO and LG and am waiting for the resolve.
I just got one swapped out yesterday. They gave me free overnight shipping too. This is like the 5th time, if its not free I guess I'm confident ill get to keep it. You see I learned during my call yesterday that they now charge five bucks for using warranty, that's a change in contract, 30 days to reject the new changes. Even still, I'm on my 5th G2X, completelly unacceptable!

See this is an example of why t-mobile sucks. They've sold phones that THEY KNOW ARE DEFECTIVE...and won't replace them. I understand it'd be stupid to replace them with another G2X - but they should a) give us our money back or b) exchange it for another phone like the sensation or mytouch4G. The fact that they don't is probably grounds for a lawsuit. If anyone is interested I'm thinking of filing one.
Luckily for me, I only had to swap mine once to get a phone without backlight bleed. Even on max, it's hardly noticeable. My first one was horrible, even below 50%. Now, the wait for an update begins.
im getting a replacement but there charging me 20 bucks to do so! i got the shiz end of the deal
Or they could directly seal the screen to the glass like. In the iphone and galaxy s lineup

They are offering the mytouch 4g for exchange. They hard one to get them to do is the exchange to the sensation.

Please look at the date of the last post before reviving dead threads.
People r still having to swap out the phones, so it is still relevant.

Not necessarily. If you bring up prices in asking for a replacement (i.e. I paid $180 for my G2x and Sensation is now cheaper) they'll frequently feel pressured into sending you one. My brother swapped his out for a Sensation, claimed the Sensy had overheating problems, and got a replacement MT4G Slide.
When I popped that response into the google narcissism translator, this is what it spit out: i wanted to post something that offers zero value to this thread, xda, or anyone else in this world. As a matter of fact, I wanted to post something that has zero value for a single thing on this entire earth, outside of puffing up my ego. I'm so thankful I have avenues such as the internet to sharpen and feed my narcissism. I'm so full now.. I'm so happy. I feel great. Wow, it's like a drug. I hope someone argues with my stance so I can keep getting fed....
