My Atrix 2 rebooting all the time - Motorola Atrix 2

My Atrix 2 has been rebooting it's self multi times a day. Just yesterday it rebooted 4 times in 50 mins on my way to work, and in my 8 hours of working it rebooted 14 times. I was using BeyondPod podcast catcher and playing podcast in my 8 hours of work, but the drive to work I was not listening to anything on it.
Any Ideas? I have updated everything and also did a factory reset and still does it.
I am running stock 2.3.6 and it's not rooted.
Thanks

Is it possible for you to (1) run the phone for a day without the SD card, if it stops rebooting then (2) format the SD card, and if the problem comes back, (3) change the SD card?

I can try it and see

Rescanning and "losing" time?

I am on stock + rooted/3e (recently decided to go back to stock due to random data or other issues).
I have tried rewiping a few times now but the problem persists, which is:
It does the "scanning for media" several times, not just once now. Sometimes it will do it randomly while I'm using the phone.
The time keeps settings to 4 hrs ahead. I check the time zone, its right. I can fix the time by unchecking "auto" and rechecking it, but then I'll go to use my phone again later and the time is wrong again.
I rewiped and went back to stock for the 3rd time today and wiped all data, formatted the internal SD card, took out my external SD card and the issues still persist.
If I reboot my phone it also goes back to the 4 hrs ahead time. I check its still eastern time zone. I don't get it.

I don't know if this will fix it or not but have you tried wiping dalvik cache and fixing permissions? Just a guess. I haven't had this problem, I've been staying on flashed Roms..
I've wiped all data, cache and dalvik. Tried going back to UCK5 (ultimate unbrick) and right out of the gate I still have both problems.
I am going to bring the phone in to ATT today and see if they will try my sim in another phone/maybe swap. I think something is wrong with the phone.
Brought it in to the store today. They did another factory reset, tried swapping sim, bunch of random small things but no matter what the problems persisted so ATT is shipping me a new phone. Odd issue.
Got my new phone problems fixed. Was surprised to see the phone came with UCKH1 installed.
I had the same issues just before my phone gave up the ghost. Got a new one and it seems better although I still get random media scanning and it takes forever after a reboot for it to complete the scanning media thing really annoying.

Android process media

I keep getting an error this has stopped. Any ideas?
Did you try clearing it's data? Manage applications -> All -> select the media process and force stop it then clear data. Hopefully with a fresh start on collecting data it will stop crashing.

Odd. That's all it took for me to get it to behave. Force stop then clear cache and data. I restarted and used my tablet for about 4 hours last night and never had the error.

Interesting as I've been using zep's script for months and immediately added it when I first got my tablet. I didn't need to bulletproof anything just the force stop and clear data. But I did use the OOM groupings and minfrees it calculates. For those not using the script give it some consideration. It does wonders on lower end phone which are lacking memory but still makes a noticeable difference, to me at least, on current higher end devices like the Transformer or my HTC flyer.

thanks,
Also i just now rebooted my tf to find the micro sd card is not being read by the tf, it shows in the notifications and has all the music files etc still on it but is not recongnized by any apps.
Is this connected to the media process fail issue?
any idea how to fix.
Update:
I tried reformating the sd card putting some music and photos back on it.
Force stopping media from app list than wiped data from media, rebooted with new formated sd card but still shows sd card in the notifications and can access it from the sd card menu in notifications-seeing all the files on it, but none of the apps recongnize it- can go into any music app but does not see music on the card.
Any suggestions to try
I had this problem for 2 weeks, and then after upgrading to ICS, it persisted. So I did a reset to factory defaults, and that fixed it.
I'm sure there's a way to fix it without taking the reset sledgehammer to it, but I figured now was a good time, since I had just got ICS running, and other folks said a factory reset seemed to help fix other problems and make things faster. Plus I had tons of apps installed, many of which i didn't need, and uninstalling them would take time.
Just backup all your stuff! I ended up backing up files, and then rooting so I coudl backup apps and app data with titanium backup.

External SD or ICS Leak

Okay so I have a 32 GB external SD card, and I use my phone everyday to play music and take pics, everything gets stored to my External SD but for the last week or so, My SD card doesn't load my music, it says I have it but then doesn't have anything playable, then Gallery doesn't load, it says scanning media but even after an hour of scanning nothing works, But when I take my SD card out and connect it to my comp I see everything and everything is functional, could it be a problem with the ICS leak? or maybe my phone? I'll go back to Gingerbread if I have to...

Sounds like a problem with your phone or a bad flash. Try reflashing whatever ROM you are on. Make sure you read and follow directions for whatever ROM you use. Not following directions can cause some really weird bugs.

Okay so I should reflash... weird because I never had any problems with any of the times I flashed... I'll try to see if I can flash it tonight
Weird, mine did the same, but I didn't change anything. Aliens attacking?

I have similar problem with only music not showing on MUSIC PLAYER(cd + note icon), scan sdcard, clear data wouldn't do anything. But they show up on PLAY MUSIC(Head Phone icon)

Take everything off and put the blank sd back in the phone and format the sd with the phone, then load your stuff back on.

This could be fixed with a simple factory reset. I'd try that before re-flashing anything.

I would also try what's recommended above but first format it in he computer after you have removed your stuff THEN boot up the phone without the SD card. Insert it. Format it then reset he phone so it can rescan it after the format. Copy a temp or test file such as a single song onto it. See if it reads it. If it does it may be OK. If not then reflash/reset ROM. I am running the ucle2 leak and have had no issues. Course I'm running the stock pics leak rooted with bloatware quarantined so it may be a sky ics from issue.

The problem went away after I did a factory reset!!! But I just hate redownloading apps now, and setting everything back up
Anyone tried to just go to Applications, then Media Storage, then clear the cache for that? Then restart the phone, that cache is what the phone maintains to know what music files, photos, videos, etc are on there and creates a minature DB for it to search instead of looking at the files directly. When the media scan happens initially it builds that cache, maybe for some reason its corrupt. Ive had that happen (not exactly your problem) where I get doubles of everything, clearing that cache and letting it re-scan everything fixed it for me.
I agree doing a factory reset sucks to have to resetup everything again. For the others still having the issue, try clearing that first, then proceed with factory reset if needed.

[Q] Media Scan draining battery

Hey all so i replaced a fully charged battery with a spare. A hour later of non use the battery drops from 100 to 82. I found the media scanner is the culprit. Is there any way to stop the media scan besides disabling altogether? I'm on a 4.2 rom

it's a deep rooted issue across many devices.
a simple reboot may solve the problem.
sometimes a wipe and reflash of the rom.
others have tried backing up the sd and microsd card and then format them if the issue persists.
google: media scan battery drain or similar phrase or topic. you will have many results to review - an other solutions offered depending on your use
edit: it should be noted that if you were to format the internal sd, you will need to return it to stock afterwards because you won't have anything to flash in cwm
If the problem isn't with the SD or SD micro in the first place, you should be able to fix it. I've had this issue for weeks and have been working on it and trying to get the latest ICS Beanstalk ROM working properly.
Here's what I did - I backed up everything using Titanium then copied the contents of both SD cards to my PC. I wiped and formatted everything and ODIN'd a stock GB ROM to the phone and updated the kernel to give CWM. Basically, I started from scratch in the Beanstalk thread. Each ODIN or CWM ROM or kernel install was done 3 times (it probably made no difference, but made me feel more confident that it was written correctly).
Once I got Beanstalk flashed with GAPPS, I copied my backed up SD card contents back to their respective cards. I also downloaded the Titanium .apk from its home website here and installed it.
Now, make sure the battery is fully charged and then leave it with the screen off for a couple of hours. DON'T restore any backups yet. Once you are sure the battery is draining at a respectable rate (2% per hour is what I was seeing) then start restoring backups one app or system setting at a time. Give time between restores to ensure the battery is still draining properly. If you see a jump in battery usage, that's probably the bad app that has been causing problems. Uninstall it.
If you get everything restored and have no battery issue, the problem was with one of the SD storages and should be fixed. Either way, you should end up with a working device hopefully.
I'm about half way through the restore process right now and using BBS (Better Battery Stats - XDA edition) and my device is using deep sleep again. So far, so good.
Good luck. :good:
I had an external sd card go bad. It resulted in media scanner running frequently. Often I would notice it running right after I woke the display.
This App "sd card monitor" allowed me to quantify how much it was scanning: (a good free app)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...onitor&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd
As I recall it was about 100 scans in 24 hours.
In my case formatting several different ways with phone and pc didn't fix the problem.
Replacing the sd card with a new one did fix the problem for me
I didn't realize there were any causes of excessive scanning other than bad sd card or bad sd format (there's a lot of things I've never heard of).

Phone Randomly Restarting

My new Z3 has randomly restarted twice today when sitting by itself on a desk. Any thoughts as to what's going on?
i experience once while i was sleeping in the middle of the nite. it suddenly restarted which cause me to wake up.
same here it happened while it was sitting on the desk, after the restart it did updates for apps from the google play store
Same here, soft reboot today when Phone was not in use. No need to enter pin.
The first night with SIM card inn it, it restarted a bunch of times. The two previous days I did not notice any restart but cannot say for sure that is did not. It has restarted only at night. Last night it did not restart, but it restarted this morning. I have not found any logging feature or app that could point to the reason for the reboots. Annoying!
random reboot
I still get this random reboot problem every now and then, phone was on stamina mode whole day today and restarted twice randomly. Have you guys found a soln on that?
I have literally the same issue. Have you guys found a solution or a culprit yet?
I think that I've just found the solution. I had the same problem for a while, at the beginning I had some reboots once or twice a day, but the other day I had 15-20 reboots in the same day, I did a factory reset but the problem was still there. Using the phone I noticed that I was in TeslaUnread settings when the phone rebooted, I tried againg and it rebooted always when that app was opened. So, I uninstalled it and I had no reboots for days. Today, I reinstalled it and after 5 minutes the phone rebooted. Now I'm pretty sure that the problem was that app. Tell me if you notice the same thing
Try to uninstall the apps who are not update for long time( such 4-5 month or more ) and see the result. For me works, after I uninstall one app ( I having 2-3 rebooting by day ) who are updated last time in 2013 my phone not have anymore random rebooting ( passed one month ! ) . I am pretty sure you have installed an application that does not support Lollipop ( is not updated for lollipop ).
Sorry to bump an old thread, but this problem has been driving me nuts and I think I may have a solution. Specifically for my phone (a Z3c), it seems to be related to the SD card. I had a similar problem last year where the SD card would be corrupted and cause lags/data loss. I then bought a new SD card. Now, the phone has been randomly powering itself off and will not even charge when powered off. Then, at a random future time, the phone will be able to be charged/turned on as if nothing happened. This behavior has become increasingly more common
I've tried reformatting, deleting unnecessary programs, clearing caches, etc. The reformat seemed to help for a few days and then the problem returned. Last night I did some more troubleshooting and removed the SD card. It remained powered on for the whole night (for the first time all week). In the morning, I put the SD card back in and the phone wouldn't power on.
Right now I'm wondering if anyone else having the same problem with their Sony Z can cure it by removing their SD card? I'm going to next try to reformat the SD card and, if that doesn't work, buy a new (maybe slower) SD card. My current SD card is a 64gb class X which I've anecdotally heard can have timing issues with some SD controllers. I find it strange to have problems with two separate SD cards in my phone though. Either I'm very unlucky, SD cards aren't made for longevity, and/or the Sony Z has a controller that eventually kills or corrupts SD cards.
I still have reboots on the latest firmware, full stock, no mods and no shady things installed. It seems like this phone is not able to last more than 10 days without crashing and rebooting at least once. Today I thought the problem was solved as I didn't have any reboot for the last 9 days but as I was reading a page on chrome, I left the phone unattended for 5 minutes as I went to get some food and when I was back I was greeted with the boot animation. This is absolutely shameful, feeling the buyers remorse already. If course there is no way to tell why it happened.
if your phone is under warranty, get it fixed.
Huge waste of time if it's a software issue. Also I already had the phone serviced and factory reseted and I still have the reboots. Does anyone of you guys have these kind of reboots? You can see in diagnostics, system incidents.
