External SD or ICS Leak - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Okay so I have a 32 GB external SD card, and I use my phone everyday to play music and take pics, everything gets stored to my External SD but for the last week or so, My SD card doesn't load my music, it says I have it but then doesn't have anything playable, then Gallery doesn't load, it says scanning media but even after an hour of scanning nothing works, But when I take my SD card out and connect it to my comp I see everything and everything is functional, could it be a problem with the ICS leak? or maybe my phone? I'll go back to Gingerbread if I have to...

Sounds like a problem with your phone or a bad flash. Try reflashing whatever ROM you are on. Make sure you read and follow directions for whatever ROM you use. Not following directions can cause some really weird bugs.

Okay so I should reflash... weird because I never had any problems with any of the times I flashed... I'll try to see if I can flash it tonight

Weird, mine did the same, but I didn't change anything. Aliens attacking?

I have similar problem with only music not showing on MUSIC PLAYER(cd + note icon), scan sdcard, clear data wouldn't do anything. But they show up on PLAY MUSIC(Head Phone icon)

Take everything off and put the blank sd back in the phone and format the sd with the phone, then load your stuff back on.

This could be fixed with a simple factory reset. I'd try that before re-flashing anything.

I would also try what's recommended above but first format it in he computer after you have removed your stuff THEN boot up the phone without the SD card. Insert it. Format it then reset he phone so it can rescan it after the format. Copy a temp or test file such as a single song onto it. See if it reads it. If it does it may be OK. If not then reflash/reset ROM. I am running the ucle2 leak and have had no issues. Course I'm running the stock pics leak rooted with bloatware quarantined so it may be a sky ics from issue.

The problem went away after I did a factory reset!!! But I just hate redownloading apps now, and setting everything back up

Anyone tried to just go to Applications, then Media Storage, then clear the cache for that? Then restart the phone, that cache is what the phone maintains to know what music files, photos, videos, etc are on there and creates a minature DB for it to search instead of looking at the files directly. When the media scan happens initially it builds that cache, maybe for some reason its corrupt. Ive had that happen (not exactly your problem) where I get doubles of everything, clearing that cache and letting it re-scan everything fixed it for me.
I agree doing a factory reset sucks to have to resetup everything again. For the others still having the issue, try clearing that first, then proceed with factory reset if needed.

[Q] SD card keeps freezing phone

So I flashed my Captivate back to stock using Odin and then flashed Cognition. Everything seems to be working fine again except my phone locks up every time I try to access the SD card. It usually happens whenever I open gallery but also sometimes when I'm in a game or some other application. I can still access it fine through a computer and it doesn't look like I have any corrupted files but it just keeps on locking up my phone. I tried reflashing Cognition and that didn't help. I'm wondering if it's a problem with the SD card even though I've never had any problems before because I've done countless restarts and battery pulls today so it's possible something got corrupted. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Does it have the standard directory where you store your photo/films?
or
Did you try to reformat (FAT32) it? Then take a few pictures (so it does create the stanard directory/~ies). Seems to me it's missing some..
Senax
I finally fixed it by going all the way back to stock and reflashing everything. I think it may have have had something to do with the overclocked version of Cognition I was running or perhaps a theme I installed. I was pretty sure it wasn't an issue with the SD card as nothing was corrupted and I could access it fine on my computer. Either way it works again now!
just as a future reference.. you should ALWAYS backup your SD card to your PC considering SD cards DO fail. I lost almost 4.5gb of info because my memcard was corrupted and I had to start collecting all over again (+ i lost something like 600megs of cell pics).

[Q] Phone keeps losing installed apps on SD card

So I've been having this issue for about a week now. All the apps installed on my phones SD card once I reboot are not loading up. I know the data is still there because the first time that it happened I spent the better part of day freaking out thinking everything was gone gone. At some point I thought of checking of the data by plugging in into the computer. Turns out (1) all the apps miraculously return (2) I can't mount the SD card anymore (3) I can't unmount the SD card anymore either.
What is the deal? It's kind of annoying to lost everything every time you reboot. I'm not really in the mood to tether my phone each time for the unforeseeable future just to keep everything loaded. Has this happened to anyone before? What should I do?

What do you mean, the icons? I'm going to assume that's what you're referring to, for this reply...
If that's what you meant, icons on the home screen take a few seconds to get themselves drawn, if apps are on SD.
You can switch to a different skin then switch back to your original skin, to get them to redraw. Or delete/reposition them one at a time. It's a workaround, but changing the skin temporarily is faster.
It's a sense bug, I'm pretty sure.
Doesn't happen if apps are installed on the phones internal storage, so until they fix it, move your apps onto internal storage, if you don't want to deal with this each time you reboot. They run faster if they're not on your SD anyway.
Unless you have waaaay more apps than you really need, of course.
Sorry should've been a little more specific. The shortcuts on my home screen are all no longer working and I'm well aware of how long it takes for sense to load them up on startup but even when I go to display all apps it only displays the apps on internal storage. In fact each and every app on the card (in the apps settings) has a funny icon that has a little "sd" on it now and just says computing and will not load.
And since writing this I can no longer get the phone to load any apps from the sd card by tethering it to the computer. It's still accessible - just downloaded today's song from amazon and played it - but apps on it are almost like they're gone.
This happens to me sometimes too. But usually when it happens to me I can go into Settings - Applications - Manage Applications and move the troublesome app to internal storage, and then it's fine. It never completely disappears.
It might do you some good to reformat your SD card. Move everything off of it first, then format it, then put everything back on.
Is it the stock 8GB SD card, or a different one?

Sold, since I can no longer access the SD card and I've got nothing to listen to at work...

Yup.
@homeslice976 copied, formatted (made sure it was FAT32), copied everything back and no dice. Same symptoms, Apps will not load.
@zuriken I don't know why you asked about the stock SD card or not, do you think it needs to be replaced? It's only been since February.

Did you do a full, not quick format? Scan for bad sectors/errors?

full format, chkdsk /f, still nothing though. This is honestly getting to the point where I'm tempted to switch to another phone. Why can't I access my stuff?
Another new bonus, every time I get some sort of alert it now plays random MP3s from the SD card. What is going on...

I'd try a brand new, good quality SD card before resorting to switching phones.
Have you flashed any custom roms or anything? I didn't see you mention either way.

It's gonna be a little while until I can try a new SD card but I'll get back to you.
The only ROM I loaded was the one to originally root that removed the uploading cap from ATT.
I also solved where the random sounds were coming from apparently it doesn't want to play my selected theme and no matter what I do the only one that works is the original HTC default 2010 one or if I download any only the Celesta theme plays... I have a sinking feeling that copying all this funky data isn't going to resolve anything but I'll give it a go.

Good luck.
Since you haven't been messing with multiple roms and such, I don't know what else it could be, other than the SD card taking a dump.

[Q] Has ics damaged my sd card

Lately i have been playing with ics roms including ics RUU installs and with all of them i have been having problems relating to reading from the sd card (gallery issues, stored music issues etc.) none of which where present before installing ics.
Today, after returning to an earliar RUU to revolutionary unlock the hboot and root, i formatted my sd with sd formatter and wiped and formatted everything on my phone. Then i ran the 2.08... RUU and set up my phone from scratch like i always do. I put my usual music, ringtones etc on my sd card and reinstalled all of my apps.
After doing my usual clean install, the first thing i noticed was that the personalised ringtones that i set began changing randomly and i also noticed that the tunes displayed on my music widget were changing randomly.
It appears that my sd card is misbehaving but i wondered if anybody else had this issue after returning to another firmware after using ics?
If you can put the SD into a PC and it still reads, then it's not damaged. A busted SD card wouldnt make songs start to play or anything like that. That would be the rom. Now, if you sent to play a song and it refused to play - that could be another story.

Well he's been having problems reading "gallery and stored music".

[Q] Feel stupid - SD card problem.

I've been searching all over for a similar issue but no luck.
I accidentally pulled the SD card w/ out unmounting it. From everything I've read the SD card is usually messed up and needs to be formatted. In this case everything on it is okay except that I can't play my music in through music player unless I go through root explorer and select a song. What is wrong here?

Did you try remounting it through Settings/Storage?
If it's in the Xoom, unmount and remount. Or you could backup the sdcards contents, reformat it in a android phone, then reinstall your content and try it again.
I did try the unmount/mount thing but unfortunately it didn't fix it. I was afraid I might have to backup and format the card, 26gb is going to take a while. It's just odd how its only my music, it will play through Root Explorer using the music player but won't play directly through the music player itself.
I'll give it a go later and report back.
Have you tried another music player? or uninstalling updates and reinstalling them?
Yep, winamp plays just fine. The problem is only with the Google Play Music player. It just says "Couldn't play the track you requested" It won't allow me to delete it to reinstall it or remove updates. I think I'll try flashing a new rom before formatting the SD. The latter is very undesirable.
Okay, all of a sudden the mp3s don't appear as mp3s anymore. They just read as 'file' they didn't say that earlier today. Strange that they play just fine in other scenarios .Now amost everything looks ruined.
Thanks guys. Format time.
Btw, files look ruined according to Windows Explorer. Root Explorer says everything is normal.
Pardon my rambling on, but everything on the card works on my Incredible - even the Google Music player plays everything just fine.
I'm absolutely perplexed
Have you tried clearing out the data for Google Play Music? Or the other affected apps?
Yep tried that but it didn't fix it.
Now I can't even get the SD to mount in neither the phone or Xoom. The eff is going on here?!
Edit:
Well I got the Xoom to see it but it says blank SD and offers to format it. I just worry that if I format the SD card it formats the internal card. I should be safe?
Have you tried looking at the card on a computer without the xoom? (Sdcard reader etc)
If that doesn't work, if you are worried about formatting the Xoom's internal storage, you could always just pop the sdcard into a computer, and then format it to fat32. Then you can just put the sdcard back into the xoom and you should be good to go. Just note, that would erase all of your data on the card.

[Q] Cannot delete or add to SD card

A few days ago, I tried taking some pictures with my Droid Charge and the pics would not save. I tried in the stock camera app and in CameraZoom EX. CameraZoom gave me an error message "failed to save photo to SD car (error code=2). I figured I was out of space.
My Titanium Backup scheduled backup did not run the next day. So, I assumed I was out of space.
I connected the phone to my PC and deleted some pics and music. WHen I was in WIndows explorer, it said I had about 2 GB free after doing all of this.
When playing music today, I noticed files that I had deleted before still present on the phone. I thought this was weird. I went back and checked and all the stuff I thought I deleted was still there.
I searched on the CameraZoom EX error code 2. It directed to remove and reinsert the card and reboot. I tried that. I have tried unmounting and then mounting with no success either.
My phone seems to be working fine, but I cannot delete or add anything to the microSD card (the original that came with the phone). It does not matter if I use my WIndows 7 laptop, desktop, or various file managers on the phone itself.
ANy idea what is going on?
To me, it sounds like the SD card is going bad. Not a common occurrence but it can happen. You're lucky you can still read from it... I would suggest getting a new SD card (Verizon might even give you a new one free) and copying your data to it before sectors start going bad. By the way, how did you manage to full up 32 gb?
Or I could be blowing this out of proportion and it's just a matter of write protection on the card.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using xda premium
Another option is to copy everything off the SD card, format it, and try to write everything back. Sometimes a format can joggle a bugged card.
It is mostly music that I have on there. I am not sure how write protection would have gotten on the microSD card or how I would remove it. It does not have a physical togge like an SD card does.
I think I may have to try re-formatting. Ugh.

Corrupted SD card. Call VZW and be nice on the phone, explain the situation, hopefully they send you a new one.
Hmmm, this is interesting. I cannot even format the microSD card. I tried to do it through Windows Explorer. It looked like it worked. I then tried to copy files back on and it choked halfway through on a movie, I think.
Anyway, what was more interesting is that when I looked at the drive again, everything was back where it originally was. So, the re-formatting must not have actually worked.
I then tried to erase the SD through the options in Android. I unmounted. I then selected Erase SD card. After rebooting (to just be safe), the SD card still is untouched.
THis microSD card has become an impenetrable force. More realistically, it must have write-protection enabled somehow as that is the only thing I can think of.
The question is how do I find out if write protection is enabled and how to disable it? Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks.
