I am on stock + rooted/3e (recently decided to go back to stock due to random data or other issues).
I have tried rewiping a few times now but the problem persists, which is:
It does the "scanning for media" several times, not just once now. Sometimes it will do it randomly while I'm using the phone.
The time keeps settings to 4 hrs ahead. I check the time zone, its right. I can fix the time by unchecking "auto" and rechecking it, but then I'll go to use my phone again later and the time is wrong again.
I rewiped and went back to stock for the 3rd time today and wiped all data, formatted the internal SD card, took out my external SD card and the issues still persist.
If I reboot my phone it also goes back to the 4 hrs ahead time. I check its still eastern time zone. I don't get it.

I don't know if this will fix it or not but have you tried wiping dalvik cache and fixing permissions? Just a guess. I haven't had this problem, I've been staying on flashed Roms..
I've wiped all data, cache and dalvik. Tried going back to UCK5 (ultimate unbrick) and right out of the gate I still have both problems.
I am going to bring the phone in to ATT today and see if they will try my sim in another phone/maybe swap. I think something is wrong with the phone.
Brought it in to the store today. They did another factory reset, tried swapping sim, bunch of random small things but no matter what the problems persisted so ATT is shipping me a new phone. Odd issue.
Got my new phone problems fixed. Was surprised to see the phone came with UCKH1 installed.
I had the same issues just before my phone gave up the ghost. Got a new one and it seems better although I still get random media scanning and it takes forever after a reboot for it to complete the scanning media thing really annoying.

Hi,
I could do with some help relating to severe lagging with Cyanogenmod.
I've been a (very) happy Cyanogenmod user for a few months now on a rooted HTC Magic. Some time during December I upgraded to CM 4.2.10.1 (the one with the ext2 bug). This severely slowed down my phone, so I jumped onto xda-dev to see what was up. After reading about the ext2 bug, I decided it was time to partition my SD card, so I created a linux-swap, a ext2 and a FAT partition, then upgraded the ext2 to ext3. Next time I turned on the phone, apps2sd kicked in in the background and I was again a happy CM user.
The next day I was trying to move a file onto my phone from someone else's SD card, so I popped out my own one with the phone on - unaware that I REALLY shouldn't do this. Shortly afterwards, my non-standard apps all started disappearing and the phone started to play up. Realising that apps2sd had moved everything to the SD card I put mine back in and restarted the phone. Unfortunately it seems I'd already corrupted permissions for the apps, so after backing everything up I decided to wipe the phone and reformat the SD card with only a linux-swap and FAT partition so I didn't have this issue again.
After the wipe everything seemed to work very well for a while after reinstalling all my apps, however after a few days things started to slow down again. It's now been 2-3 weeks and even with all the CM updates the phone still lags most of the time although the speed varies. Restarting the phone sometimes helps for a short time, but I often get 'System: Force Close/Wait' screens just after turn on. Flashing new versions of CM does speed things up more after reboot but the performance quickly degrades again.
I could try another wipe, however seeing as the problem came back after trying last time I thought I'd ask for some advice with my problem as I don't want to reinstall everything only to be back to where I am now.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Paul
Food for thought : ive tried using cyanogen since ive got my magic, and it was always like this (Tried .12.2 and .13). And i've never even tried using app2sd. I asked the gang down in irc, they told me to get some bacon :/
OR you could have a damaged sdcard, badsectors and all. Try not using apps2sd for a while.
Hi guys,
I've been having this problem for quite some time now. I first noticed this when I shifted from one custom ROM (SAGA LBC) to another (CyanogenMod 7.1). At first, my phone kept resetting after a reboot. At first, I thought it was an incompatible ROM. For a time, wiping cache and dalvik cache via the recovery interface did the trick. But then, it just got worse and worse. I eventually reverted back to LBC, thinking that it might be Cyanogen. But, as it turns out, my phone still kept resetting. Even as mundane a task as going to the settings menu freezes up my phone, requiring me to reset, sometimes even by pulling out the battery. I tried doing the wiping of the caches again, bit it never became effective.
Then I read somewhere that Andoid seems to be uber sensitive to file corruptions and defragmentation of the microSD card, so I defragged the SD, fixed the permissions, and deleted the LOST.DIR and tmp folders. Everything went smoothly at first, but then after a couple of days, my phone kept rebooting again. To verify that it was the microSD at fault, I removed it for the mean time. Since then, my phone hasn't frozen nor rebooted.
One other thing: whenever I check the microSD via Windows (right click --> Properties --> Tools), everything seems to be in order as Windows can't detect anything wrong. Right now, I've ran chkdsk :f /f /r on the drive, but Windows says that everything is fine. I haven't reinstalled the microSD yet, as I want to run a more thorough test before I do.
Have any of you encountered this? Could you guys give me suggestions on what to do, a better tool than chkdsk, etc? I can buy another card, but I don't want to do that just yet. My microSD is 32GB, and I don't want to just throw it away or something
Phone has been fine, working GREAT, thanks to the smart minds in this forum. Well, today my phone has been fine, until just a little while ago. It doesn't appear to have re-booted at all, but now things are really different. My theme isn't working, and isn't even showing up in my list anymore, as well as a lot of apps. I rebooted, and when I did, there was a wierd icon in my status bar. It looked to be the sim, or SD, with an exclamation point beside it.
I booted into recovery and tried wiping cache, dalvik, and fix permissions. It got rid of the icon, but my apps still aren't showing up. A lot of them. Also, before rebooting, it wouldn't let me send a text. What should I do?
Val Final Rom, AntonX rc2 kernel, AS14.1
Update:
Everything is looking fine now. Apps have returned. I'm not sure really what happened, but I freaked. This is why I only use 'chirps'. I get pissed and smash these things when they fail to do my bidding.
Update 2:
It happened again. I think I have it figured out to be a problem with my sim card. Gonna try a few things and report back.
Maybe internal storage device/memory problems? I would try making a backup and reflashing same/different rom to test if it still happens.
Last time that happened to me, my SD card went corrupt. It may be time for a new one
you may have broke your sd reader.
Sim cards don't cause internal phone problems, all that would happen is no service/"UNABLE TO READ SIM CARD". Your apps/data would be fine.
Did you drop it?(your phone)
That's what happened to my G1.
And since when are themes listed in applications??
Do you mean launcher?(home screen replacement)
cm7/miui have theme support.
Sorry, been awwaway. Crazty night off. Phonne is still workidng fine from last fix. I thinki I just put it donw too hard.
I'm not sure exactly what caused all of this but i'll give some background.
* Updated from Hyperdrive RLS8 to Hyperdrive RLS9 with Zues Kernel.
* Forgot to put new ROM on SD Card after I wiped, so I plugged my SD card into a external card reader and put rom on, then re-inserted my SD card to the phone
*Installed ROM with no problems and ran all day with it.
About 12 hours in I started getting "Unfortunatly, the process android.process.acore has stopped" after I was toggling some ROM settings. I believe when I was changing the governor or doing system tweaks with System Tuner. The message appears whenever I try to do anything with my phone most the time taking back to the home screen rendering my phone unusable.
After some googling, many said if you clear data on the Contacts Storage system app it fixes the problem. Problem is my phone won't let me clear data on it and the reported size of Contacts Storage is 1.56TB (which obviously can't be right). So I tried to reinstall that system app, no luck there either.
So then I tried full wiping and re-installing the ROM (many different times with different ROMs [4.1.1 and 4.1.2] and settings each time) and every time I boot up I get: "System UIDs Inconsistent:
UIDS on the system are inconsistent, you need to wipe your data partition or your device will be unstable. With a button saying: I'm Feeling Lucky"
When you hit the button the phone just boots normal but the android.process.acore message still appears.
I have also tried wiping my external SD card and reinstalling, did not help either.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
Well I had to unroot and go back to Stock. Unfortunately I'm on the road and my hotel wifi blows, so 3 times my md5 for a 1.2GB file was wrong. Which took about 4-6 hours to download each time.
Ended up flashing an OLD stock LF2 that I still had lying around. Then bringing it back up to current. What a pain in the ass!
Is it just me or is it every time I screw with custom Kernels they are nothing but headaches?
I think i'll stick to stock kernel from here on out.
You may have gotten a virus, malware, or something, the button "I'm Feeling Lucky" sounds suspicious.
It used to happen on my droid x but haven't seen it on my gs3. It's not a virus but I don't know the fix.

Probably the cleanest solution HERE
My new Z3 has randomly restarted twice today when sitting by itself on a desk. Any thoughts as to what's going on?
i experience once while i was sleeping in the middle of the nite. it suddenly restarted which cause me to wake up.
same here it happened while it was sitting on the desk, after the restart it did updates for apps from the google play store
Same here, soft reboot today when Phone was not in use. No need to enter pin.
The first night with SIM card inn it, it restarted a bunch of times. The two previous days I did not notice any restart but cannot say for sure that is did not. It has restarted only at night. Last night it did not restart, but it restarted this morning. I have not found any logging feature or app that could point to the reason for the reboots. Annoying!
random reboot
I still get this random reboot problem every now and then, phone was on stamina mode whole day today and restarted twice randomly. Have you guys found a soln on that?
I have literally the same issue. Have you guys found a solution or a culprit yet?
I think that I've just found the solution. I had the same problem for a while, at the beginning I had some reboots once or twice a day, but the other day I had 15-20 reboots in the same day, I did a factory reset but the problem was still there. Using the phone I noticed that I was in TeslaUnread settings when the phone rebooted, I tried againg and it rebooted always when that app was opened. So, I uninstalled it and I had no reboots for days. Today, I reinstalled it and after 5 minutes the phone rebooted. Now I'm pretty sure that the problem was that app. Tell me if you notice the same thing
Try to uninstall the apps who are not update for long time( such 4-5 month or more ) and see the result. For me works, after I uninstall one app ( I having 2-3 rebooting by day ) who are updated last time in 2013 my phone not have anymore random rebooting ( passed one month ! ) . I am pretty sure you have installed an application that does not support Lollipop ( is not updated for lollipop ).
Sorry to bump an old thread, but this problem has been driving me nuts and I think I may have a solution. Specifically for my phone (a Z3c), it seems to be related to the SD card. I had a similar problem last year where the SD card would be corrupted and cause lags/data loss. I then bought a new SD card. Now, the phone has been randomly powering itself off and will not even charge when powered off. Then, at a random future time, the phone will be able to be charged/turned on as if nothing happened. This behavior has become increasingly more common
I've tried reformatting, deleting unnecessary programs, clearing caches, etc. The reformat seemed to help for a few days and then the problem returned. Last night I did some more troubleshooting and removed the SD card. It remained powered on for the whole night (for the first time all week). In the morning, I put the SD card back in and the phone wouldn't power on.
Right now I'm wondering if anyone else having the same problem with their Sony Z can cure it by removing their SD card? I'm going to next try to reformat the SD card and, if that doesn't work, buy a new (maybe slower) SD card. My current SD card is a 64gb class X which I've anecdotally heard can have timing issues with some SD controllers. I find it strange to have problems with two separate SD cards in my phone though. Either I'm very unlucky, SD cards aren't made for longevity, and/or the Sony Z has a controller that eventually kills or corrupts SD cards.
I still have reboots on the latest firmware, full stock, no mods and no shady things installed. It seems like this phone is not able to last more than 10 days without crashing and rebooting at least once. Today I thought the problem was solved as I didn't have any reboot for the last 9 days but as I was reading a page on chrome, I left the phone unattended for 5 minutes as I went to get some food and when I was back I was greeted with the boot animation. This is absolutely shameful, feeling the buyers remorse already. If course there is no way to tell why it happened.
if your phone is under warranty, get it fixed.
Huge waste of time if it's a software issue. Also I already had the phone serviced and factory reseted and I still have the reboots. Does anyone of you guys have these kind of reboots? You can see in diagnostics, system incidents.
