i have the official JB 4.1.1 and i can't seem to root it i try 3 methods already from the internet
Try using the latest CM10 v0.8 with hypothalamus kernel. You may have to install google wallet yourself.
ROM:
http://goo.im/devs/kalimochoaz/ROM/Crespo/cm-10-FEATURED-crespo.v0.8.zip
GAPPS:
http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20120717-signed.zip
KERNEL:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/igdfaj4v1jcyv5m/7m1CHxoro7
install in cwm, ROM => GAPPS => KERNEL and reboot.
good luck and have fun
There is no best ROM. I don't know why every single noob has to ask that question. It's all a matter of opinion and we all know the saying about opinions.

Hi guys!
I'm using standard Gingerbread Android ROM and I'm getting a little tired of it so wanted to ask if someone could suggest some ROMs to try. Also, I'm not sure how to flash them on Nexus S. I heard that there are many Androids that can be rooted by clicking one button in an app, but for Nexus I found a long tutorial here on XDA and I'm a little hesitant to try it.
Any tips will be appreciated!
Thanks much

I have tried out just about all of the roms out there now for the nexus s and now I have reverted back to stock. I have found something wrong with every rom I have tried. Custom roms are just too buggy for me even ones marked as "stable". If you're willing to deal with bugs things not working phone reboots and dropped calls by all means try some custom roms. Now I'm just waiting for Ice Cream Sandwich to come out.
oxygen rom is one of the better ones out there.
oh and btw nexus s is one of the easiest phones to root follow the guides carefully and you'll be done in minutes.
This has been discussed couple of times here, do a search.
For example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239365
If you don't really feel comfortable flashing a ROM, hang around in dev section where most ROM & guidelines are available and read the feedback from users on each ROM and see which one fits your needs.
And there are NO best ROM only most suitable to your needs, what is best for others doesn't necessarily fit your needs.
I'm with blowtorch, you have to try it to find out yourself...I myself did and at the end of the day I'm perfectly comfortable with stock rooted.
The longer and harder thing to root a Nexus is to installer drivers on computer. After it's fast and easy.
Oxygen is great after 2 or 3 days. I use adw launcher ex, or stock launcher.
Sms, mms, video gtalk, video skype and so on.
Everything is juste ok.
2 days of battery life with heavy use.
I try ns collab, superosr, it's great too. More cyanogen like.
I never use miui more than 5 minutes...but i read and heard that it's a good rom too.
I love Ice and Fire. Has an Ice Cream Sandwich style launcher. Lots of extras.

This x100.
Stock Rom may not be flashy but its rock solid and fully functional.
I once searched for something like this and found that there's no clear cut answer for "best" ROM. Like others said try them all (one you figure out how to flash) or do watch videos showing off each rom to get a sense of what it's like. I don't have my NS yet but I'll be trying NSCollab and SuperOSR when I get it. Odd considering I'm not a CM7 fan...
Depends on the features you are looking for. For me at least, I got the Nexus S so I could have stock AOSP. I've been sticking with Oxygen for a while now as its close to stock with some useful added features. CM wasn't for me though I may give it another shot soon.
There's a lot of tutorials on youtube that show you how to flash a ROM. I suggest you watch a few of 'em to get an idea how to do it properly.
As for the best ROM, like others have said, it all depends on your needs. I use Oxygen because it's very stable and has extra features that I find pretty useful.
I also like minimal bloatware so I downloaded ES File Explorer and removed most Google apps since I never use 'em!

I read about it already, and the question is - is there a simpler way to root Nexus S than installing all of these SDKs etc on the computer? I guess, not from what I see here.
Don't worry, I won't **** my pants)
there is one...give it to someone who knows how to do it.
You are asking for best ROM, how to flash it, finding simpler way to root it without installing SDK, etc. on computer....and that's the only way I can think of.

This guide should be simple enough to follow.
1-CLICK-ROOT (Windows)
Download link {Updated with CWM 5.0.2.3 (cyan) and su-3.0.4-efgh}
Note: Don't forget to install the corresponding x86 or x64 drivers through the PdaNet setups.

No opinion threads, flash different ones and see what's best for you. Also, this wouldn't even be the right section. This thread will probably be closed soon. Happy flashing!
Do you want customization?
Do you want stability?
Do you like sense or stock ics/jb?
Find out what you want in a Rom first. Each Rom here caters best to somebody.
Make a backup of what you have and flash away. Go back to what you had if you don't like what you install. That's the fun part.

1. Yes.
2. Yes.
3. Stock JB
I want slick, fast, and fun customization all the way form changing the boot logo sound to customizing the animation, and beyon dth at, a lot of good tweaks etc.
There is no "best" ROM. Everyone has different preferences, and uses their phones differently. Its like asking people what their favorite color is. They can give you an answer what they like. But it has absolutely no bearing on whether you will like it or not.
"Best ROM" threads are frowned upon here. This thread will be closed.

Hello all,
Been out of the game for a while, but with the S3, and the horrible OTA update that killed the S3, I'm back.
Did the root & recovery via this method: LINK
Now, I am looking for a ROM, thinking of just going with pure stock, without bloatware BS. What is the favorite, stable ROM out these days? (Just reading up on all of them now, just looking for overall favorites these days.)
If by stock, you mean TW, then there's no 4.2.1. If you mean AOSP (truly not bloated at all), it's currently in 4.2.2. So I'm confused on what you want. I can't comment in TW ROMs, because I strongly prefer AOSP, but if you want AOSP, I'd go with LiquidSmooth personally. SlimROM is also great, as is Paranoid Android.

Because of the question. The fact is that while we can recommend you a ROM we can't guarantee that you will get the same experience that we did. Which is why moderators encourage us to try the ROMs out ourselves.
"Thread closed as "Best" rom for one user is not necessarily the "Best" for another.
Users are encouraged to read and determine what is best for them by reading the knowledge shared via posting.
These threads always spiral into arguments about one rom over another, and thus, trolling ensues.
Please do not post "Best Rom" threads." or even favorite

I never expected any guarantee. As its the General section and it even says 'tips'... I figured asking what people like, currently, would be a good way to look for a ROM so I can read the info and the user feedback in the ROM thread.
Kinda sad users can't get other users opinions for ROMs.
Oh well.

My advice to you for AOSP is to test the ROM based on what you're looking for in a ROM. Also after reading your post since you are not asking for help in choosing a ROM I don't think they close this thread only if you flat out ask us to help you pick a ROM.
Hi,
My N5 is running on Android Lollipop 5.1.0 (LMY47I), (Rooted)
I know choosing a custom rom differs from one person to another, but I would like to know which custom rom you recommend to me (Based on your exp). and Which CustomROM I can consider Switching to. More likely I'm looking for a CustomROM with Stock ROM Experience + Addition features (Circular battery, Performance, Better Battery life, etc..)
Hope your replies might also help other who has thoughts to switch to CustomROM !
Thanks in advance !

Well, it may not be helpful or expected, but it's honest. You're best bet is to scroll through the development section and choose one at random. You say you're looking for stock with extras, but ever rom out can fit that criteria....
If you're looking for a rom based off the stock google factory image, then I'd suggest Cataclysm Rom from the Original Dev section. It might be just what you're looking for because the Dev takes the stock google image and adds his own twist to it.
3 people=3 suggestions
Billion people=billion suggestions
Based on your expectation I would say Cataclysm+elementalx is good choice. But the best solution is download>flash>experience
Thanks for sharing valuable suggestions, now I can save some time by short listing custom rom's based on ya ppl suggestions

Cataclysm hands down......
Euphoria and Chorma is the one I always use in all the time. Euphoria will more features compare to Chorma but both also awesome ROM I used before and also with CodeBlue kernel performance smooth and battery soso.
Hi, I have Android stock. Should I flash another ROM or not? I need ti change Kernel?
Ask yourself
For example, on S3 was required to replace the TouchWiz. If the Nexus performs is better with another ROM l flash another ROM now.
Yes, flash cataclysm and code blue kernel

#2 post, Section 1a - Pre-root Info: read it
But is a beta version! :crying: I want it to go better with stock Android.
If you need extra features then do so. If not, I do not see the point of it. Anyhow, I suggest you use multirom so you can easily try all those roms out there.
No, I do not think I serve other customizations .
Then this thread is pointless. Close please
This means that the stock is fine, ok thanks.
Personal preference. If your not happy with stock then get a root. I suggest rooting the stock rom first before you try roms tho. You have alot more options for customization to the stock if you do that.
OK thanks I understand, if I want another options I root my device or I flash another ROM. A Stable ROM!
